Headphone adapter disables internal mic.

When I plug my heaphones in, it seems that the internal microphone on my Tilt gets disabled. That is with my headphones plugged in, no one can hear me on the phone.
Is it possible to talk on the phone without having to uplug the headphones?

Nope.... plugging in headphones assumes you have headphones with a built in hands free mic, like what are supplied with the phone - its possible to get an inline mic so that you can use your own phones though.

Thanks, my phone did not come with such headphones. So I am using a headphone adapter and a pair of earbuds. Has anyone seen any headphone adapters with a mic built in?
I want to be able to plug it to my car's stereo's aux in, hear people through the speakers and talk at the same time Short of splicing the cable and soldering on a mic, can such adapters be purchased anywhere? Anyone seen one?

Hands Free via AUX

I have an AUX jack in my car and with my icrap i could plug it via the 3.5mm connection and use it as hands free, but with the LEO i plug it in and i can hear the other person via my car speakers but they cant hear me!? is this a common problem or am i missing somthing?

I had the same problem with my HD. People told me that I was wrong and that the phone could detect it was not a 3.5mm connector with a mic band on it, but it never worked for me.
I'd love an answer to this as I regularly use my phone as a music player in my car - same setup as you described.

One should be able to test this quite easily: call a friend. And if you don't have a friend - just call someone. Tell him that you sleep with/think he is an/damaged his (whatever) and if he starts shouting at you.. well I guess you have your answer. If nothing happens - same story I guess. The last possibility is great - you can now call everyone and finallysay the truth to him or her - all the things you always wanted to say, but were afraid to say. All thanks to HTC...

It works, at least on mine, I am often listening to music using classic headphones and I can call people / use voice command with the microphone of the HD2. It is the same with the AUX input on my car.
Maybe you have a jack that has the microphone contact ?

Headphone Jack Issue

I am interested in purchasing this phone, but I read there is an issue with not being able to use the microphone while headphones are plugged in. I hook my current Android into my car stereo through my headphone jack and when people call, it uses the speaker phone to talk while I hear people on the car stereo. Would I still be able to do this on the Fascinate, or does that also disable the speaker phone mic, or are they the same mic?

im not sure what you are asking but i ahve no problems with it, i plug in my headphones with the mic in them and they work great, use them for listening to music and talking and love it

He means he has his phone plugged into the speakers in his car through the aux jack, and then when he gets a call he uses the speakerphone option to talk, and incoming voice audio plays on his car stereo. I do not think this will currently work on the fascinate...

You've heard right. It blocks speakerphone when headphones/aux are plugged in. It's quite a pain considering I use it as my music player in the car. It also ignores bluetooth while plugged in as well.
I got used to unplugging it when I get a call, though.

This is correct, and was almost a deal breaker for me. However, the car dock has a function where you don't need to plug in the AUX, only the micro-USB, and you can charge it as well as have audio output (the audio goes through the charging port, then is output by a 3.5mm output on the dock, and finally to your car's AUX in). This feature isn't enabled yet, but once Froyo is released it will be - and then we should be able to take calls over our car speakers without the mic being muted.

So Indy, we can't use the car dock the way it was intended until froyo drops? That means I can't hear my nav thru the speakers while docked or any music?

As I understand it, yes. There is a sticker on the port letting you know that it won't function properly until the release of 2.2. I'm still waiting on my dock to get here in the mail, but I've seen several threads elsewhere where this is discussed.
I don't think the dock has room, but if it does, you could still run an AUX cable from the headphone jack to your car's input, and have nav and music through the speakers - you just wouldn't be able to take calls with it connected because of the mic being muted with an AUX cable connected. Once 2.2 is released, as I understand, you'll be able to do it all.

Thanks for the help. It looks like ill be waiting before I make a purchase. I use slacker radio too much in my car and my deck doesn't have an auxiliary in, its old school tape deck so I have a device that plugs in the tape deck.

[Q] an issue with the speakphone microphone while connecting headphones on omnia 2

Hi friends,
I would realy like some help for an issue that i have with my omnia 2..
ok, so basically i was making a setup in my car so i could listen to music
by connecting a 3.5 male to male cable (which i've made myself so it would be as short as i need it to be) to the AUX input in my car stereo system.
The music sounds sweet.
I also liked the fact that i could hear the person i was talking to on my car's stereo system, and obviously the music stops when you get a call so it's very nice..
now I know that the omnia 2 has 2 microphones (which is amazing!)
one for a regular conversation, and another one which is way more sensitive
for the use while you're using it as a speakerphone.
The problem is:
when i connect the 3.5 plug in the phone it lets me select:
1. Headphones
2. Headset
3. TV-out
when i select either of 1 or 2, the phone uses the regular mic and not the speaker mic.
i can hear the sound of my speakers in the car
(or maybe i will even hear it the same with headphones)
but i can't have the other side hear me as well as he will with the speaker phone.
I know it uses the regular mic because when i disconnect the 3.5 plug from the phone and put it on speaker, the other side hears me much much better.
(phone and me stay at the same place at the entire test)
my question is:
is there anyway to change (perhaps in the registry?) something
for the phone to use the speaker mic while anything is connected to it's 3.5 jack?
any help will be much much much appreciated.

Are you sure the mic doesn't work when you select "headphones"? When I use it like you do in the car, it works perfectly. In fact, I was pleasantly surprised it did, as opposed to Omnia I.
"Headset" means the original headphones with the mic on the cord, while "headphones" means regular headphones, and then it automatically uses the built-in mic.
If it doesn't work like this, take it to the service if you're still within the warranty.

Unexpected hands-free behavior

I just picked up the Sprint S3 and I am having problems using bluetooth hands-free in my car. The default use for the phone is feeding sound to my stereo via an AUX cable from the headphone jack. All my other phones--ever, would switch to BT hands-free, but the S3 is staying in headset mode and playing audio over the 3.5mm jack. That is worthless, and I can't imagine why anyone would ever want this.
Is there an app, or configuration item somewhere that I am missing that can resolve this issue? I would definitely like to avoid yanking the 3.5mm cable every time a call comes in or I need to make one. It's dangerous, especially with how snugthe cable is. You have to use both hands.

Sounds like a bug. I wonder if i9300 users have this? I'd report it to Samsung, so they can fix it in firmware.

No one else I know uses the AUX cable at the same time as BT hands-free. I clearly have my BT set up to handle calls in Samsung's menu.

Interesting... Samsung's email support system doesn't have the Sprint SGS2 or the SGS3 in it. I had to start a live chat, and I feel like I'm getting nowhere.
