[Q] how to make the screen rotate faster? - Wildfire General

Hi, there
i just switched to cyanogenmod nightly #203 and its really awesome speedwise.
the only "problem" i have is the auto screen rotation.
its so slow compared to iphone for example.
its not a problem of the rom i think, because the stock rom is rotating slow too.
one the other hand, when start the camera its rotating very smoothly.
is there any way to speed that up? i searched on the web but couldnt find any useable fix for this.
thanks!

Lol our wildfire is a cute device na. Its processor and ram is just basic. We can't compare it with a phone that have almost double the potential and ofcourse double the price. ( but with half the features of android os ) more over iPhone is an eyecandy phone. I mean apple give more importance to its GUI and look. So its a must that it should have a speedy interface.
For your sake of knowing, own an android costing some where near to iPhone. Like sgs2, HTC desire z, or some thing with 1+ ghz processor and 756+ MB ram. And android 2.3 or higher. Then feel the difference.

Installing/Using:
1. Download the attached V6_SuperCharger_for_Android*.txt script and save to your sdcard.
... Do NOT run the V6 SuperCharger install script at boot!
2. Load the script (V6_SuperCharger_for_Android*.txt) into Script Manager and select "Run as Root."
3. Touch the screen for the soft keyboard or slide out the keyboard and get SuperCharged! Just pick an option!
4. READ the script's output!
5. Afterwards, READ the html HELP FILE in the root of your SD Card!
6. Disable "Lock Home in Memory" if your ROM has this option.
7. Optional: For a quick status check, you can put a Script Manager widget for V6 SuperCharger on you desktop
Install an app called 'Script Manager' from the market. There are both Free and Adfree versions (i.e. paid) available.

[13.05.2011][2.2+] CF3D :: NightMode v1.1 [BETA][ROOT][OpenGL ES 2.0+]

THIS APP HAS BEEN SUPERCEDED BY "Chainfire3D": http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1087427
It contains all the functionality present in NightMode and more.
.
.
.
.
.

DO NOT INSTALL ON HONEYCOMB (yet)
YOU WILL READ THE ENTIRE POST. YES YOU WILL. EVEN YOU, SUPERCURIO !
About
NightMode itself is an implementation of Jeff Sharkey's excellent power-saving and night-vision-preserving idea for surfaceflinger effects. Really, you should read that link.
The red mode is great in darkness as it does a good job preserving night-vision, for me the power-saving is secondary (power-saving is on OLED screens only)
Unlike Jeff's original article, NightMode is NOT based on surfaceflinger (or other) source modifications, the same effect (more or less) is achieved by using a proxy driver I call CF3D. NightMode serves as the first test of this driver, which will ultimately try to make games run on your device that normally do not.
If you are running CM, you have a similar option already in your settings (which uses the surfaceflinger method).
CF3D driver
The CF3D driver used in the app is a proof-of-concept proxy driver I'm building. It's ultimate purpose is to serve as a compatibility layer and to implement some extra features. Or in normal people English: make stuff work that doesn't, and add some cool.
CF3D is dangerous
The installation of the CF3D driver is not without risk. So far it has worked for everyone who has tried to install it, but you should definitely make a CWM backup before trying!
Successful tests of CF3D
- HTC Hero (not supported by this APK)
- HTC HD2 (MDJ on NAND, Adreno200)
- Samsung Galaxy S (2.3.3, PowerVR SGX540)
- Samsung Galaxy Tab 7" (2.3.3, PowerVR SGX540)
- Samsung Galaxy SII (2.3.3, Mali-400 MP)
- Motorola Atrix 4G (2.2.1 ?, Tegra2)
- Motorola Droid 2 (?, PowerVR SGX530)
- LG Optimus 2X (2.3.4, Tegra2)
More about NightMode !
The featureset is nowhere near what I wanted to release for this beta, but I ran into a lot of snags, and it's simply time to put it out there. For example, what I really wanted is automatic night mode in the dark. However after some testing it became obvious that the light sensors in the phones I used are simply not good enough to accomplish this. So there goes that feature For some reason, they appear to be unable to distinguish between house lighting at night, and pitch black
So the feature set has become really simple: you select which night mode color you want, and whether it should be on or off.
For your convenience, there is also the option to create a shortcut on your home screen to toggle night mode on and off. You can either create it by pressing the button in the app, or: tap-and-hold on the home screen -> shortcuts -> Toggle NightMode.
Requirements
NightMode requires:
- OpenGL ES 2.0 (every 1ghz+ phone has this)
- SuperUser / Root
- Writable /system (it will try to remount system as read/write when needed, but the changes need to stick between reboots)
- S-OFF ??
- Having root access from recovery is a big plus to solve problems if you run into them
Installation
If you have CWM or another recovery-based backup system, make a backup before proceeding !
Install the APK as you would any other. Open the program, and press the "Install" item under the "CF3D driver" heading. This will attempt to install the CF3D driver and reboot your device.
Please make sure you have USB debugging enabled, so you can logcat and potentionally fix problems manually in case of a no-boot.
When installation fails and your device doesn't boot
- If you can achieve root access through ADB shell while booting or in recovery, the fix is usually easy, just execute the /system/lib/cf3d_uninstall.sh script as root.
- Otherwise, if you have CWM, do an advanced restore of the /system partition
- If all else fails, reflash the /system partition or the entire firmware
Uninstallation
Open the app, and select "Uninstall" (if available), then uninstall the APK like you would any other.
Thanks!
Though the app itself may not be very interesting, feedback on devices it does and doesn't work on is most welcome (please include logcats of the boot process), just for the sake of progress with the CF3D proxy driver.

Guilty
Thanks to the entire reading session that was well worth it I understood it was not at all a Ripoff of the color effects that are in CyanogenMod, not even related.
Actually the concept is super powerful and I'm already flooded by ideas of new stuff possible with this approach.
Fantastic stuff Chainfire.

I really have been waiting for something like this since i got my first android device. Absolutely awesome.
Atrix.
Heehee, updated to v1.1 already... seems I left some debug code in there that disabled PowerVR textures
This sounds really cool . But all the technical stories behind it are completely unclear to me (because I am simply a user, not a maker, so I didn't really delve into this kind of stuff (yet?)).
The thing that matters to me is the battery saving part. Is the amount of battery saving (roughly) the same between these different methods (CF3D/CM7/surfaceflinger)?
And being sufficiently scared by your CF3D is dangerous warnings: did you receive any reports yet from SGS i9000 2.2.1 Users? (Or maybe even more specific, JS8 or Doc rom users, if you think that matters anything.)
I will keep my eye on this, quite interesting .
Tried and tested on Rooted UK Galaxy S2
PDA:XWKE1
PHONE: XXKDJ
CSC:XEUKD1 (XEU)
Install, reboot, Night Mode, all went without a hitch and work as expected.
THIS IS AWESOME (have not tried)

The amount of battery saving should be exactly the same. The battery saving is a property of OLED screens, when not all colors are used. OLED only sends power to pixels that aren't black (for example in red mode, green and blue pixels will remain black, thus not use any power). It has nothing to do with the method used to get there.
There have been no 2.2.1 reports yet, btw.

Hero very slow;Is this normal?

Hi all!
I currently have elelinux 2.1 ROM, but I think that's not the problem, because with others rom is very slow too.
For example, when I'm writing a text message, on twitter or whatever, sometimes it has a delay of 1 second more or less, activating 3G/wifi is slow as **** too. Even turning screen on and navigating through desktops or apps is slow. When I call, it has a delay of 3 seconds before it appears on the screen. I can't even listen to music because the phone get stucks... I could give you more examples, but I think is enough to know that my hero works to slow.
But I don't know if this is normal or not, I don't know other people who own a Hero.
Thanks in advance
Yeah it's an outdated slow phone really. I would consider it normal.
Maybe you have some apps installed and running in background? Try to install fresh ROM or uninstall all applications and try then.
are you using an thirth party keyboard like better keyboard?
those are a bit laggy somethimes and that can cause your 1 or 2 seconds lag
and maybe try to flash a new kernel (like this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=730471) or start again from scratch

Hi!
Recently I've installed Thumb Keyboard, but the keyboard was laggy before that, so that's not the main problem I think...
I know it's an old phone, but this slowness, it's unbearable... and my contract doesn't end until october >_<
instal a task manager maybe?
or delete your phones cache (can be done by apps in the market)
otherwise.. i dont know whats the problem
i recomend a radio and kernel update (can be found here on the forums)
Yes, try a task killer to find out what processes use phone memory the most.
Kill them periodically, or just uninstall them if it's not necessary.
hi everyone
i think that's the steps of solving the problem try it
1- if your memory card is full try to delete anything you not use in it.
2- make a Swap partition and that's the link > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6907762&postcount=47
3- install fresh rom for my advise (VillainROM-v13)
4- install task killer that's help phone to be faster
now your phone is fast!! enjoy
You may wanna consider overclocking a bit. That's helps my phone quite a bit.
may be you've to reflash ROM
i usually flash ROM every 3 months
Solution without Sense:
go and get elelinux 2.8 ROM
OC your cpu (needs root and care not every phone can handle the highest values, ele has included oc app in his rom)
find the lowest working freq without the phone always restarting itself
find the highest freq without stability issues or overheat
after done this, check "set on boot"
switch all animations off
install just the apps you really need
remove all that unnessecary junk from your homescreen, a clock widget (example beautiful widgets lite, weather animations off, free from market) and some shortcuts are enough, if u want u can keep search widget
play around with cyano settings so you get optimum results
then your phone should not show too many lags, at least mine does not.
Solution with Sense:
Go and get a fresh rom,
example
elelinux repacked 2.1 rom,
VR 13 (also 2.1),
SalsaSense (2.3.3, not as fast as RUU 2.1 though, and use Las Venturas 0.4.7 kernel)
Same procedure as above: OC, for me i use 264-768.8MHz and ondemand gov
Remove all that unnessecary htc homescreen junk like music widget , peoples widget, weather.....
if u want you can keep htc clock widget, but do animations off
Phone should be FAST!
greets, S.O.D.
id recommend updating from 2.1 to the 2.8 version. the set the cpu to 176/652.
then install task manager. this should sort all your problems out
try overclocking the phone, i use floyo rom and it run so fast for me
was using villainrom 12 and recently shifted to villainrom 13. trust me it is the best rom i have ever had. i use taskiller with it and my phone simply flies. though battery remains an issue. i am using the stock keyboard and also the stock sms app. would suggest all to give it a try (those who haven't)
I too have had a slow hero and it is definately not rom.
I actually had 2 heroes , One got rooted on day and has been ok .
The other ( nephew was using it) was slow and I always assumed it was his stock system, unrooted setup.
When I got the phone back last week, I rooted it , put a few roms on , wiped everything that looked wipable in recovery , put in a new sd card , setup a app2sd partition ( using rom manager ) .
and still its deadly slow.
If it was a PC I would think its faulty memory so only the good portion is working but I have no way of checking. ( unless you tell me)
also the apps2sd might not have taken as i tried to format the partition after creating it and it couldn't find it.
any ideas?
try to flash new roms .....

[TUT]HOW TO GET THE MOST OUT OF YOUR SLIDE! (With root)

hey XDA, i figured that while i was looking around i might as well post a tutorial of my own. for the MT3GS users, this will give you the ultimate features out of your slide. Ok first off if you didnt see in parentheses "with root" then i jus sed it again and if you do not hav a rooted mytouch slide, look away from this post now! Now that that is out of the way, let us begin
1. (cant say this enough) ROOT THE **** PHONE
rooting the phone makes majority of the stuff on this page possible
2. Install a custom official rom
i installed CM7, quite possibly the greatest rom for the slide, introducing a Gingerbread 2.3.3 UI and a bus load of features
3. Enable data2ext
this is VITAL for users because the slide has at most what, 150mb of space? that sucks right! so data2ext takes the data within the internal memory, and puts it on your SD card [data2EXT(ernal)] if you do this correctly, it will give you 500mb of space (well really more like 482mb) this makes your phone EXTREMELY fast.
4. enable apps2sd
download modinstalllocation from the android market and give it super user permissions to force install all apps to SD (can be moved freely between SD and internal) at the time of me writing this post (june 2, 2011) i have roughly 195 apps installed on my slide with apps2sd and data2ext both enabled
[WARNING, APPS-2-SD AND APPS-2-EXT ARE 2 DIFFERENT THINGS, DO NOT USE APPS-2-EXT AND DATA-2-EXT AT THE SAME TIME BECAUSE DATA-2-EXT WILL BE REMOVED!!!!]
with data2ext
4. Install Flash player 10.- (whatever is the newest version)
to do this, you must have android sdk on your pc:
4a. put the flash player apk in the tools folder of android sdk
4b. open command prompt
4c. type in:
cd
cd c:\androidsdk\tools\ (or whatever path it is to get to the tools folder in SDK)
adb install (name of flash player file).apk
[it will install.......]
then it should say [success]
(note: can use this to install any app on your phone, i used it to install swype because CM7 did not have it)
4c. reboot your phone (do the process to get to the tools folder, then type adb shell, it should show a "#" type in "reboot" w/o quotations)
5. download CPU tuner from the android market
i used CPU tuner because it is free and official. you will need this to run high end games like Asphault 5 HD, Modern Combat: Sandstorm, etc. (this is wher it gets awesome). afterwards, open CPU tuner, click profiles, press the menu button on your phone, and click insert, create a new profile (i called mine gaming, because it helps run the stuff smoother, increases the power of coverage, both 2G/3G and Wifi, and a bunch of other stuff). I set mine to min. 787 MHz, max 864 MHz, and know that this doesnt come free, this thing will MURDER a battery, and the CPU tuner is designed to change profiles when battery is low unless you change the option in the settings!
[another warning: messing with the CPU settings can cause damage to your phone if you try and push it, if you do not have a reliable battery or screwed up phone, use caution when doig this.]
6. GET DOWNLOAD CRAZY
i have taken my phone to a new level! here is where the fun comes in:
A. get on the internet (or the XDA forums and search "[name of game] HVGA apk" or "gameloft games HD HVGA". and here is something little to no one knows, the Sony Xperia X8 has the same screen resolution (HVGA) and the games are compatible on the Slide, for example: people have modded the files in games like Asphault 5 so that it fits the screen, and they WORK on the slide. so far i currently have: Asphault 5, NOVA, NOVA 2, Guerilla Bob, Modern Combat Sandstorm, Gangstar: West Coast Hustle, Gangstar 2, Heroes of sparta, and am looking to find Galaxy on Fire 2. And hey if all you want is performance on non-modded currently compatible games, then it does the job too. It makes them faster and smoother!
I will be posting links once i get past the XDA rules (i am a new user and need to do 8 posts on the forum before i can post links!) i hope this helped everyone, and if you have something i can add to this list of things to do then feel free to post it in a comment or PM me
sincerely
Ognimnella
[EDIT (June 4th 2011)]
SKAm69 and gtmaster303, when i originally installed the HD games (thank you SKAm69 for your help) the games were EXTREMELY choppy even with the CPU tuned and almost 490mb of ram! so i went to the market (on PC internet) and found the latest version of flash, then googled "Flash Player 10.3 apk download" and downloaded it, then used Android SDK to install it! that simple!!

If Flash doesn't work on the Slide, I kinda doubt that it was the installing of Flash 10.3 that improved the quality of your games. Maybe it was something else you did at the same time you installed it. Try uninstalling it and see if you have the same performance in your games.

I just want to know if anyone else is running this script. I refused to believe my Nexus S was not behaving, after all, it's a Nexus S! But, eventually even I had to get real. Truth is, lately, no matter what ROM I'm running after a few days things would slow down way too much. Lag, Launcher redraws, FCs due to lag. Things were too slow.
Anyway, I used the V6 SuperCharger script and it really has changed things. I used the MegaRAM option for 512 MB phones and I swear it has been a revelation. Even overclocking couldn't bring about this change. Currently, I'm on MIUI which most people consider to be a bit heavy and clunky. However, after supercharging with the MegaRAM option and Bulletproofing the launcher it's unstoppable! Highly recommended for those of you experiencing phone lag. Make sure to follow the Dev's instructions for using his script. All credit to user: zeppelinrox. Amazing stuff!
Which MegaRAM option did you select? I picked the second option, but I don't know which is better for Nexus S. So far I noticed browser is much much smoother now, other things has always been smooth for me, so I can't really tell the difference.
I used the 2nd MegaRAM option as well. But, I'm going to test out the first option. As I understand it, the more memory you want free in the 3rd slot the less multi tasking you can do (as this is where the secondary apps will be places)...I THINK!
As per that thread if 25 MB is good enough on a Milestone, a Nexus S should do well with 40 MB.
THIS from the thread:
zeppelinrox said:
Additional Info: You can find each app's priority and OOM.
....................... In AMM, Press Menu > Running Processes > Group by OOM grouping.
....................... Expand each group and see what apps are included and each app's priority level. (Higher numbers get killed first!)
....................... If you tap on an app, you can get additional info. Tip: Check and see what's included with android.process.acore
The default minfree values ("kill thresholds") for each OOM group are, as far as I can tell: 6, 8, 16, 20, 22 and 24 mb. (CyanogenMod 6.1.2)
This means that: when free memory lowers to 24 mb, EMPTY_APPS get killed; at 22 mb free ram, CONTENT_PROVIDER apps get killed; and so on...
Now, because the Milestone has only 256 mb of memory, I found these numbers too low, especially the 3rd one.
Basically, with those settings, you will usually be sitting with only 20 - 25 mb of ram.
Possibly less. Basically, it's the 3rd number (16) + 5. That's your free memory.
And my phone just chokes when it has that little ram available. Lag, home screen redrawing, the launcher getting killed.... ugh....
After extensive fiddling around, I've come to the conclusion that setting the third slot to about 25mb works great.
No home screen redraws while not being too aggressive on secondary/background apps while having about 30-35mb free all the time
BTW, free ram is not wasted. Android will use that memory to cache the file system and this speeds things up. See this informative post.

Just tested the 1st MegaRAM option and things are quite smooth. Launcher is not as buttery as with the 2nd option but, it's still great. The browser does quite well too, pinch to zoom is smooth but, scrolling is a little stuttery on a heavy page like Engadget's.
Just wanted to tell - if you are on my MIUI ROM, don't use it because I have my own RAM Optimization script integrated.
never heard of this till this morning, thanks for bringing it up
trying it out now

I didn't said anything against your script, just told the users to not use it on my custom ROM. A think that as maker of your script you should know - two RAM scripts on same ROM are doing only damage.
They don't stay running.
They execute and end.
Whichever one runs last is the one that sticks.
Many people were using juwe's script with the V6 script and things ran fine so it's not a big deal.
Of course, if somebody wanted to, they can delete the minfrees in any of their custom roms and plug them into supercharger...
Why do you guys like scaring the crap out of people for nothing? lol

I've seen this problem with the SIM/PIN lock on other ROMs. You might want to try disabling and re-enabling the SIM/PIN lock from settings. It should immediately ask for the PIN and reenable you Home key. What settings did you apply? Maybe they killed off your system guard.

Just an update on my settings. The MegaRAM seem to really speed everything up but, I find that they weren't being nice to my Whatsapp (I was missing messages now and then) I think Whatsapp would receive the message but get immediately killed before it could broadcast the notification. Once it even seemed to exit in app for no reason at all. So I switched to Balanced Settings 3 and so far Whatsapp as well as the launcher and phone in general has been very responsive.

I went for Megaram option 1 (I think). I disabled password and it then worked but by this time I had uninstalled the script. Any particular option you suggest? Cheers for the reply too.
It depends on your usage. I would suggest starting out with Balanced settings 3 and moving up or down the menu depending on whether you want more(down) or less speed(up). I've found that the trade off is speed vs multitasking. Though, I think zeppelinrox could confirm whether I'm right.

Sense4 ROM with supercharger

Sorry for my poor english.
I really want Sense4a or Sense4 full version ROM in my phone as daily drive.
but current Sense4 ROM's performance compare with RCMix3D V4.0 + Neoc CFS kernel is poor....
the birds told to me, Virtuous Infinity alpha ROM plus V6SuperCharger can up performance & battery life!
but this threadhttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991276/ I can't understand....
who can provide me a simple teaching with illustrate??
thx
I read it and it seems like it would theoretically work on any device, any Rom. But I not sure whether you need to bake it in the Rom or if can be flashed through recovery. I would do a back up and see if it works.

V6 Supercharger is a script which you run trought smanager from android market
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using xda premium
Let me make you easier for you, as I just made my first supercharger on my dhd.
1. Go HERE and download SuperCharger_Starter_Kit_RC12.zip & V6_SuperCharger_for_Android-Update9_RC10.sh.pdf (attached on end of post). There is new version (V6_SuperCharger_for_Android-Update9_RC11_Test_4.sh.pdf), but its test file, so I stick with RC10.
2. Unzip supercharger starter kit -> put all files (including V6_SuperCharger_for_Android-Update9_RC10.sh.pdf) in some folder on SD card, where U will find them later.
3. Go on play store and download SManager
4. Open SManager -> Make it browse as root -> search your Supercharger starter kit folder -> Run StartMeUp.sh and before You hit "Run", please select "Su" option (it will make you green skull icon), below it. Now its time to press "Run" and follow instructions. As I didnt install BussyBox before, i followed on installation with all Yes on confirmation.
5. After you finish with StartMeUp.sh, you can press grey X on top left corner.
6. Search for V6_SuperCharger_for_Android-Update9_RC10.sh.pdf and open it. Same as before, before you hit "Run", make it "Su" (grey skull, after you press it, it will become green) -> Now press "Run".
7. Thats all, follow instructions and you will not need to make any custom editing as it was before 15.8.2012
If my post was helpfull for you, please press Thank You button
P.S.: My Virtuos Sense4 rom is still not so smoth, but i will remake it again with a little bit different settings in supercharger . Also i need to say, it is much smoother than before, but still not that what i want
Update:
If you are on Virtuos Infinity, change scene from Virtuos to HTC, its even smoother

You can do all the steps above or just get AutoKiller Memory Optimizer Pro from Google play store. It does the same thing but through an a simple App.
Nothing does the same thing.
V6 is a complete fix which includes priority and grouping adjustments - not just minfrees.
If you don't know what I'm talking about, that means you don't know what you're talking about.

Hey Zeppelinrox,
True, not all things do the same. But in this case simplicity works best.
Don't get me wrong. It's great that you wrote this script and a lot of people appreciate it including me and I hope you keep continuing to improve it. We just hope you would consider creating a front UI for it like an app since it would make things easier for people.
Thanks again for all your efforts.

Every time you talk, you say something incorrect.
Simplicity has no bearing on effectiveness and does not work best in this case.
When it's an app, I'm sure people will still be confused as **** even tho it will be as idiot proof as possible.
Just like the script is now, it's as idiot proof as possible and people still get confused as ****.

While the guy that wrote the script is obviously a very very talented programmer, he's a horrible technical writer. Something as profound as memory management deserves clear and well-delineated overviews and instructions. I was left wondering at every step. The changes in font size, colours, and collapsible buttons weirded me out!
The script is way too much.
I would've preferred very succinct instructions and prompts during the script.
Does help for sure. Run your choice of memory widget and see!
At the next release of this ROM ill flash again (back on ARHD 6.3.3) but there are little things that are driving me batty - MMS/dropped connection, stereo bluetooth pairings that just drop off and need a reboot or re-pairing, and a periodic sluggishness that creeps in and out.
I'm very excited to see where this goes!
