Screen replacement - Huawei Ideos X5 U8800

A friend has a X5 with a broken screen. Do you guys know where I can find a supplier to buy a replacement screen?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk

Is it the digitizer or the LCD? I was able to get a new digitizer with the metal frame for about US$50 from ebay.
I've been meaning to post a guide on how to disassemble the u8800 as well but haven't gotten around to it. I should get that finished and post it up soon.

What's the difference from the digitizer and the lcd?!
I only see one big crack on the screen, leading to 3 other branch-like cracks!
Screen works, but sometimes registers touches on it's own, and one part on the very side (where the big crack is) is completely unresponsive!

Thats exactly what im looking for stockwell. Do you have a certain buyer on ebay to get them from?
I would be eternally grateful if you could post the guide on how to change the screen. What tools are required etc.

The digitizer is the glass front. The LCD is behind it.

So, where can we get a replacement?
And will the photos/guide be posted?

My wife dropped hers so the glass cracked. So I'm going to buy this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Huawei-U880...ltDomain_0&hash=item3a669e2bda#ht_2315wt_1139
(unless someone finds a better deal).
A disassembly guide would be great

Sorry guys I've been busy with other things. I'll get the guide up asap!
Edit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?goto=newpost&t=1291974
It's not very thorough but it should help a bit.

Cheers Stockwell. Now to buy some tools off Dealextreme and Screen off ebay.

Just remember that stupid $33 usd limit for importing goods to Norway without having to pay extra custom fee/duty. If it's more expencive you must tell the seller to mark the parcel with a lower value...

I finally got around my friends X5. I attach a screenshot of the broken screen. It is on the outside apparently as I can feel the scratches with my hand.

I think it was user ygeller that reported he could only find two places in UK that would replace screen at £150. In which case cheaper/but possibly riskier to do it yourself.

Great, so my phone is basically a door stop untill i can get it fixed, im sure not going to try and get HTC to fix it 150 is crazy, i think i will buy a screen somewhere and do it my self, after all i did manage to mod my xbox 360 up with neon lights
Any direct links to good sites that sells screens as a low price?
Cheers.
Bump bump bump
Took it to carphonewarehouse, they charged me £40 for replacment, they said if it cost more then they would pay the difference on top of the 40, good deal eh?
40 is a pretty good deal! My digitizer was going out so I bought a new one, anyone know how hard it is to replace? I already took the phone apart and the screen is off. How do I take the digitizer off?

Very simply put it converts the screen taps from the screen into an electrical signal equivalent to a "grid reference" signal based on xy axes.

Be careful with the previous reply web link. I had a virus warning popup when I clicked on it. Don't let it happen to you.
Not that it helps you guys in the UK, but I got a screen/digitizer from a seller on eBay in the US for 89 USD.
My digitizer is cracked, but the LCD is fine it's a pain to use in this condition but it gets me by.
I will try to do the screen swap tommorow.
Just got done with the replacement. Wasn't that bad at all. I would've been done in about 20 minutes, but I had a dreaded white screen with no display that freaked me out. Then I remembered a connector not seeming to fit correctly.
Disassembled and reassembled and I am back in business.
For future reference, the bottom connector in this picture:
You need to make sure sits correctly.
Here is the auction for the screen I got from a seller in California.

Looking at the service manual, the screen and bezel can not be seperated, so i guess it is gonna be expensive i.e if you want to replace the bezel you will also get a new screen.
Suggest people ensure their phone is covered by insurance!
so do you think its easy to replace the screen and metal frame?
I am really considering to buy a dummy htc hd but before I do I just want make sure that if it is easy to do by myself

A dummy htc hd will probably not have a real screen and looking at the service manual, there appears to be no option to detach the screen from the bezel, however this comment is just based on observation and hopefully someone that has taken one apart can confirm.
I saw a discussion on the forum somewhere that the cost of a new screen was almost half the cost of the touch HD itself due to the fact that the bezel had to be replaced at the same time.
Thanks for the manual...
So... can anyone confirm the N. America frequencies that are listed in the manual on page 5?? Does this de-bunk the HTC twitter message??
Thanks for share!
Thanks at lot

I managed to detach the screen from the bezel, but it really was a hard peace of work. You have to stick a thin peace of plastic between the screen an the bezel and lever the display. You should be very careful due to the lcd display and the digitizer are glued together and you might get between the digitizer and the display and destroy it that way. The other thing you should'nt do is lervering the display on the bottom (where the usb connector is) due to the flatcable is located there and you will destroy it with the plastic tool.

Did you manage to remov ethe antenna cover like in the manual? I don't seem to be able to remove it.
I ran over my phone with the car and I want to dismantle it to check what parts are broken.

Yes I did without destroying it, but I needed special tools. I used a very thin peace of metal. On page 20 from the dissembling manuel you can see the two square holes where the antenna cover is attached to the body.
Just go on and try it but be careful not to brake the little plastic clamps.

cracked screen

Today I broke my HD2 screen
Anyone knows if are outside guides to change the screen like hd2 official service guides and any shop that sell "cheap" (compared to official service) hd2 screens?
thanks for all
Sorry for your broken HD2...
May I ask, how did you manage to break it? I'm asking because it might give us a sense on how fragile these things are.
Sorry for your HD2.
Anyway, how you broke it?
WOW!How did you did that?

I use the phone as an alarm clock.
When sounded, I took it to shut it down and I dropped into bed. When going to pick it up accidentally leaned on the screen by making some pressure and I broke it

Damn! I'm sure it shouldn't be too hard to replace, but if you don't think you can do it yourself better get someone else to do it! It will end up being cheaper than having to replace the whole phone

With most phones the screen is separate from the main board and chipsets etc. As far as I am aware usually the screen will be screwed in but not embedded into it. Though I could be wrong!!..... Just hoping to give some optimism
The screen is replaceable. You're not so lucky, man
Well, seeing this image actually hurts directly to my heart!
Anyway, search on eBay, but I don't think that there is any replacement part as the phone is completely new.
I did the same just now, except it's not the actual glass that's broken but it looks like the screen underneath. That however is completely shot, again, anybody know if it's possible to replace this?
And for those interested, pictures.
Result after dropping from about chest hight on the ground.

Repost, sorry
Mine's back with the service repair centre in the UK for a cracked screen and have just had my quote for repair £118.
No one else seems to have the spares.
The screen itself and surround was quoted at £78 labour £22, and the rest is for delivery.
The service centre isn't the quickest it's taken them a week from receiving the phone to give me a quote and then it's 5 days after you pay for them to fix the phone and test the software.
Luckily the insurance is paying
i can't believe!!!!!
i cracked my screen too!!
it falls down from 50 centimeters and the glass cracked in 1000 pieces!! i'll post the picture soon.
tomorrow i'm going to call the italian call center ..
Ouch!
Got my HD2 yesterday, now it has a hairline crack in the screen about 1cm long - don't know how - it's only been in a jacket pocket and car cradle.
Screen too weak?
Edit: O2 shop said it's a scratch not a crack - so much for scratch resistant glass.

Found a seller on eBay with a number of complete front packages for the Evo (digitizer, LCD, front cam) for $58. You can also find the digitizer separately, but I'd heard that some people have had issues with touch accuracy when replacing just that part. Plus, if you swap the complete front package you don't need to bother with a heat gun to loosen the glue holding the LCD and digitizer together.
One thing to be aware of: due to different ribbon connectors on the Novatek panel versus the Epson, you need to be aware of which screen type you have before purchasing a replacement. There are several ways to tell which panel you have (search the forum or post a reply if you need a point in the right direction).
Part number 83H00256 (S/N beginning 2V6) is the
Novatek LCD panel.
Part number 83H00314 (S/N beginning 2WC) is the
Epson LCD panel.
You can see the part number and serial on this label on the back of the front assembly (picture from ifixit, which did a great teardown on the Evo that can be used for reference):
It's a fairly easy swap so if you're living with a cracked screen (and don't have insurance) I'd highly recommend doing it. The seller I bought from has several more units and offers them for a very reasonable price. You can find his eBay store at http://myworld.ebay.com/secondhandsellular/
A few more pictures of my swap are below (shot with my wife's Pre), but for detailed hi-res pictures see the ifixit teardown.
The cracked phone next to the new front assembly (front):
The cracked phone next to the new front assembly (rear):
Front assembly, logic board, rear assembly
Reassembled phone with new front assembly next to cracked unit
Voila! Like new
Thanks for the info.... this will come handy for people without insurance...
Yeah, good job!
Sent from my blah blah blah blah
Nice! Thanks for this! I've got insurance and I'm still considering ordering a spare front assembly just to avoid replacing a phone that I have setup exactly how I want it. I guess the insurance will come in handy if the logic board ever dies, but short of that I think I'll make all repairs myself.

samsung epic 4g parts

Found this website that sells spare parts incase you damaged your epic. I myself was looking for a replacement for the rim around the screen as it fell out from my hoodie pocket into the street and the rim was dented. Phone works ok but the dent is an eye sore...lol. anyways here's the link : http://www.globaldirectparts.com/Samsung-Epic-4G-Replacement-Repair-Parts-s/6425.htm

Also, question about the digitizer + LCD replacement. Do you only need to buy the digitizer + LCD combo or do you also need to buy the front housing too?

The one I ordered is seen here, http://cnn.cn/shop/samsung-epic-c-26_1118.html - I bought mine from cnn.cn about 3 months ago and it was $75, not this $120 crap, terrible.
it is the same part as your website (cnn.cn, when I ordered my screen from them, had a LOT MORE Epic4g parts). What I got in the mail was a NOT CRACKED and NOT BROKEN equivalent of my old one which is this:

The link in the OP has a loudspeaker for sale. A little note: if anyone believes they have a bad antenna, the loudspeaker contains part of it, replacing it has the potential to solve the issue.
Also, I'm a coporate Sprint tech. If anyone has any issues or needs advice or a helping hand with the guts of their epic, I'm always available.

Could someone tell me what their price on the LCD and digitizer is for the Epic? Don't have time to register atm =/
They are whole sellers so you may have to buy parts in bulk in order to get stuff from them, I see that even to create an account you need to get it "approved"
But great find man!
