You should never fist your Nook.
Seriously, you have to provide info on your setup. CM7 version, CWR version, SD or eMMC install, etc.....

Without knowing what you were initially trying to fix or what materials you have on hand, I would say make an up-to-date CWM card:

Download 1gb CWM 3.2.0.1 sdcard image from here. MD5 of .zip: 1319739d33642ed860e8044c3d55aa56. (I made this based on work in this thread. credit: to cmstlist and DizzyDen, and kevank for hosting). You really only need the 1gb image for this guide, no matter what the size of your card is. A smaller image will burn faster, and when you're done with the guide you can reformat the card anyway.
Extract the clockworkmod .img (if you can't open the file use 7zip)and burn to sdcard using win32diskimager (free) or winimage (shareware). These apps will need to be "run as administrator." If you're not sure how to do this see step 3 here. ***Some internal laptop/desktop readers will not work to do this, you may need an external USB reader if you run into problems.***

Then install a CWM-flashable stock zip:

Put update-nc-stock-1.3.zip (do not unzip!) on your SD card.
Insert card and power on NC.
From CWM main menu, in "mounts and storage," format system, data and cache.

[Q]Update fixed Clockworkmod isn't working

Update fixed the SD was broken I don't exactly know why but it explains everything so thanks for all your help and sorry for not being very
clear.
Hi I'm having issues with clockworkmod.
See the problem is while trying to flash cyanogen mod I was getting the endless loop so I kept
at it until I managed to flash it. The problem is I flashed Cm6.1.0 so easy fix right? Well I thought so too until clockworkmod wouldn't find the zip. So I tried nandroid and it again couldn't find any zip so I checked the partitions menu and clockworkmod had mounted the
Sd card and the cache. So I unmounted both and still nothing so I looked at the setting's again and it remounts the cache and sometimes the Sd card. Well my problem is worsened by
the fact that the version of cyanogen mod that did flash doesn't have the market or flash.
Any help will be welcome. HTC aria.

With CM 6, the Market is in the GoogleApps zip which must be installed after the ROM.
Also Flash 10.x does not run on the Aria; the CPU is not supported by Adobe.
Well clockworkmod won't find any zip not even nandroid and so my problem deepens so now can't get the market crap.

Some of your terminology in your post is very confusing. First of all, ClockworkMod will only find ZIP files that are copied to the root directory of your SD card. If you copied them to a folder on your SD card, CWM will not find them.
Second, Nandroid is a backup and restore utility and it does not use ZIP files. It creates backup folders on the SD card under /clockworkmod/backup and contains image files of the various partitions on your phone.
So what is the exact state of your phone? You stated that you have flashed CM 6.1? If you boot your phone normally, does CM 6 start up and are you able to use your phone? In order to install gapps.zip file to get the Market app, copy the gapps.zip file to the root of your SD card and see if ClockworkMod can install it. BTW, in CWM you are select "install zip from sdcard" and then "choose zip from sdcard", right?

Thanks for correcting my misinformation. I guess the root location only applies to "update.zip", right?
Yup. And it actually must be named "update.zip"

Are you copying the zip files from your PC to the sd card? Have you tried downloading a ROM zip file directly to your SD card using your phone's browser?
I have exactly the same problem...Clockwork will not see any .zip files....even tried mounting usb storage from cwm, it mounts and the zips are there, yet it can not find any of them when i try to find them (all are in the root of the sdcard)...any ideas?
So if you pick "choose zip from SD" you can't manually pick a zip?
Sent from my Liberty using XDA App
Found a solution:
1. Get SD card formatter from HERE
2. Plugin your phone (as USB drive), start up the application and format the card (default options selected) NOTE: backup your SD card to your PC first (obviously)
3. Unplug the phone (or put it into charge mod, whatever)
4. The phone should now try (and fail) to mount the card...go to the SD options and format the card using the phone function
The .zip files should now be visible in ClockworkMod Recovery (it worked for me and a few others as far as i know)

[Q] CM7 SD Boot - Can you expand EXT4

I've had a lot of success creating a bootable CM7 using the size agnostic preparation instructions. (Here) I want to keep the Nook at stock, for a variety of reasons. Anyway, I created a very nice installation on a 16gb uSD card and did a lot of work setting up LP+ and my hundred-odd android apps. (I also have an Evo 4G). I was fortunate enough to get a 32gb uSD at a great price and want to move my installation over to that. The most successful by making an image with the Win32DriveImage and flashing that back to the 32gb uSD card, which leaves a large area of un-partitioned space. I've tried a couple downloaded tools but have been unsuccessful. Is there a command I can use in Terminal Emulator to to do that? I know I can use the agnostic procedure to start from scratch, but I'd really hate to do that.
The only thing that would make starting over is if someone can point me to instructions that would allow me to have an installation that boots from uSD and has fully functional CWR and Rom Manager. I love how it works on my EVO to download and install updates with a couple clicks. (Everything I've tried there seems to mess with the core Nook).
Thanks a lot!

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried a few partition managers and run into the same problem including with MiniTool. It will start the process of expanding or copying and expanding in one step, but it will eventually say "file system error" just before it finishes. It suggests repairing the file system, but none of the tools can do this with the ext4 partition. Still trying though. Gonna give the Acronis partition manager a whirl.

You can edit partitions with fdisk from the terminal emulator. I suggest googling, it's a pretty old school tool and isn't very friendly. You should easily be able to resize your "sd" partition with that. Actually more accurately you should be able to delete that last partition and then create a bigger one in it's place. won't keep your data, but you can just copy it over to your computer and resize, then copy back.
Another option would be gparted which comes with basically every live linux cd ever. That one can actually do true resizes and should handle ext4 partitions easily (it is a linux file system after all)

You don't need to start over. Get a new uboot.bin for your cards boot partition from here.
Then get the clockwordmod kernel and ramdisk from the zip at the end of this post. Put the uImage and uRamdisk on the sd card as uAltImg and uAltRam.
Now when you choose sd:alternate from the boot menu it will boot you into clockwork.
Thank you so much. I think that will do the trick.

OK. All is well and the dual-boot solution is super-convenient. But I'm a little perplexed as to how to work with CWM in this environment. Ideally I'd like this to work just as it does on my EVO, Rom Manager lets me know there is a new version, I select it, it downloads asks if an want Gapps and backup (yes please) then it does its thing. Maybe that is way too much to ask. If so, then the main things I need to know are how to instal an updated build that I download separately? Do I just copy it to the root of the boot partition.
Sorry for being such a n00b with the nook. Its funny but I'm much more confident messing with my phone, which if bricked, is pretty catastrophic. (LOL)
The instructions for updating CM7 for the agnostic build is in the OP's post for that build.
"How to update to a new build:
put the new build you want to try on the first partition. (the name must be update-cm-*.zip or cm_encore_full*.zip or just update-*.zip)
Boot from the SDcard in the recovery mode (see above) and the new snapshot would be installed.
The partition layout would be preserved, filesystems are NOT reformatted, so your data should be safe."
Also, Easeus Partition Manager is supposed to be able to resize partitions w/o destroying data. YMMV, of course. I used it to extend ext 4 but prior to putting anything there.
Didn't have any luck with easus either, but ended up using a gparted boot which worked great. Normally I would use recovery nandroid to backup the rom before installing the updated, but when I did that by booting into alternate, I ended up backing up the nook rom to the root partition, so I think the safest thing to do is to use win32diskmanager to image the entire sd card.

So, just to make absolutely sure, if I already have CM7 installed on an SD card, which I've been using as a daily driver, installing apps, downloading Kindle books, PDFs, and the like, but I want to put CWMR onto the SD card, the steps you outlined should be OK?
NOTE: I know, I know, if I'm confused I probably shouldn't be screwing around with things...But the size-agnostic SD CM7 method was so bloodless that I thought the other stuff would be pretty easy to do. For whatever reason, adding stuff like the OC kernel and CWMR has been a little confusing.

[Q] Attempting to install tiamat for Xoom 3.2...

I was trying to install Tiamat for my Xoom running version 3.2 as per the instructions on the following post:

I was able to install ClockworkMod, put the Tiamat 2.0 zip on my SD card, boot into recovery mode, select the ZIP file for Tiamat, and it claims to install. However, once I reboot, nothing appears to have changed. My kernel version still remains the same. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a step I am missing?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Is your Xoom rooted?
What version of CWM recovery did you install?
You can certainly install the Tiamat Katana kernel or the Tiamat Manta Ray Rom (which also contains the kernel) but you may need some additional steps, depending on your current situation.
I am having the exact same issue, except im on 3.1 and tiamat 1.44
Everything appears to install fine, but when i boot into the system I do not see that the kernel has changed....
Do you really need an external microSDHC card to make this work? I thought the latest CWM let you install from the internal media?
HALP!
You really need a micro sdcard, and you need CWM recovery 3.2.0.0 R4c version.
Can the SDCARD have other data on it or just the ZIP file?

I have the same question. I returned my 2 week old SGT10.1 for a Xoom yesterday, and I miss being able to flash roms from internal media.
I have CWM 4.0, it LOOKS just like the SGT version: is there a reason why I shouldn't try to flash Tiamet Manta Ray from the internal storage? Surely someone has tried...

I had the same problem but I think I figured it out. I had been trying to flash the overclocked version. As a shot in the dark I downloaded the stock Tiamat kernel and tried the process again. BINGO! ! I was then able to overclock to 1.7 using setCPU.
Okay, I found part of the problem...
Turns out, the Xoom is mounting its internal storage at /mnt/sdcard and the actual external SD Card to /mnt/external1. From the CWM recovery, I can't seem to navigate to /mnt/external1. What should I do?

I suspect that it's your version of CWM Recovery that's to blame. If you have Version 4.0.0.x you have the wrong version...it doesn't see your external card and you can't flash. If this is the case, you must download and install the Tiamat 3.2.0.0. R4c version, available in the Development section.

I was able to flash without seeing the external flash card. I booted up my Xoom,
connected the USB cable from my laptop which automounts the internal storage which is what is found at the /mnt/sdcard mount point. I copied the stock CPU .zip file to the base directory. Disconnected, rebooted into recovery. Once there I chose "Install zip from sdcard". Then chose "choose zip from sdcard". Then scrolled down to the bottom of the directory listing where I found my zip file and chose that zip file. Then I chose "Yes" to install and it finished from there. FYI I am running CWM v4.0.0.4

It's your choice, but the developers recommend flashing from and backing up to an external sdcard. If you do a nandroid backup with your current recovery version where will the backup be stored? At mnt/sdcard, your internal storage. What if you can't boot one day and have to end up wiping all of your user data before you could restore? If you backup to the external sdcard, that wouldn't be affected by a wipe. Anyway, I guess if you don't have/can't afford an sdcard it's a way to flash from recovery, but I think that version is more for phones which have only one sdcard--external--and only have a tiny amount of internal storage.

Those are just mountpoints, they have no bearing on how they present the contents.
CWM and Tiamat just have different mountpoints to the same device, the contents are the same.
If you put a file in /mnt/external1 you will see it in CWM under /mnt/sdcard, exactly the same.

This sounds like you are running CM7 off of SD... you DO NOT use CWM for SD installs.
If you are not running off of SD... then I'd make sure you have the current version of CWM (3.2.0.1) and try mounting the SD from the menu's before trying anything else.
Hi, First of all, thanks for answering to my inquiry
Yes I run CM7 on from the internal memory of the Nook Color and yes, I am running CWM (3.2.0.1).
If I mount the sd card from the menu settings->storage->Mount SD Card, the sd card is mounted without any problems... The problem is when I try to Backup Current Rom
I tried also to reboot manually in recovery mood and do:
mounts and storage
mount /sdcard and I get Error mounting /sdcard!

Assuming you have a good flashable CwMR 3.2.01 uSD.
Plug it into the NC, when powering up, it should be automatically booted into CwM Recovery. From there, do the Backup.
No need to mount SD card. In fact, don't know why you would do that?

I have the one that comes with the CM7 updated to 3.2.0.1.

I have also tried to turn on the nook and enter into the recovery mode by pressing the n key but still, I get Can't mount /sdcard when I try to backup my ROM.

P.S. In case my CwMR is not good, how do I remove it?

Bye and thank you very much.
Clear!
Now, if you did install ROM into eMMC yourself, then I assume you know how to create a flashable CwMR uSD and it is good.
Assuming the flashable uSD is fresh and good.
1. Insert the uSD into NC. Power it up. It will boot into recovery AUTOMATICALLY.
2. From the CwMR menu, using volume up/down button to to Advanced, then Backup. Let it run until finishes. Theoretically, the entire backup .zip file should be around 100MB.
3. Remove the uSD off NC.
4. The backup .zip file should probably be in the "clockworkmod" folder under ROOT. Transfer it to PC or other space to save.
That's it.
There is absolutely no need dealing with "mount SD" or "ext3" or "ext4"

Leapinlar - This is the bokbokan thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2063968
Bokbokan has three sections to his post - CWM bootable image, CM10.1 CWM flashable rom, and CM10 CWM flashable ROM - so which sections files do I need? Also any recommendation for instructions using Windows?
Thanks.

CM10.1 CWM flashable ROM. And use the Diogenes instructions you quoted earlier.

Leapinlar - question - I did instructions 1-3 and the nook recognizes the SD in step 3. How do I get the rom on the SD per step 4? Can I connect the nook to the PC via the USB cable?
Additionally - what does Optional: 8) Install one of leapinlar's fixes from this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...2097731&page=4
enable the tablet to do and where do I get the files and instructions if I wanted to enable this as well.
Thanks!

You can either use stock to download the CM10.1 zip directly to the internal SD or connect the USB cable with stock booted and use the cable to copy the file from your PC to the internal SD.
Once the file is on the internal SD, you can boot to the SD again and use the "install zip from SD/choose zip from internal memory" option.
And my files are attached to the post he quoted (my HD+ Hybrid thread linked in my signature) and instructions are there to. I have a section there devoted to the HD Hybrid.

I am really sorry to be so dense about this. I copied the ROM and the GAAPS to the Internal SD, I didn't put it inside any particular folder. Now when I boot the nook back up, choosing install zip from SD/Internal memory - it asks choose which zip to apply - i do not see the ROM zip and the GAAPS zip.
Did I need to extract the Flashable ROM zip and copy those files to the internal SD or the copying the entire folder is fine?
What am I missing....

I don't remember exactly how bokbokan did his CWM internal memory. You may have to look in a folder named /media.
And keep the zips intact.

I'll attempt to describe this to you as easy as possible, and hopefully you should have your Nook ready in minutes. It doesn't take too much effort or time; mainly waiting for install requires time, other than that it's a quick process. It's not difficult either; the more you believe it is difficult, the more it will be.
I'll start from the beginning; and you go can go from there.
1. Download the latest ROM for your Nook HD (this is a hummingbird variation) from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2063968
The latest version is, as of today (CTRL + F in your browser, then paste the first line of the following quote to find it easily):
cm-10.1-20130418-UNOFFICIAL-hummingbird *** NEWEST ***
MD5: 26dcb32d40fdcf7779ac0d34843c4404

2. Now you need to download the latest ClockWorkMod Recovery for your Nook (to install the ROM). Once you download it, you must also download the latest update file. Download CWM & the Update from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2097731
The latest version of CWM + the update, as of today:
sdcard-cwm-hummingbird-hybridv2.zip

Download both these from the link on step two (above; in this paragraph).
3. You optionally can install Gapps too; which I would recommend to access all of Google Services, including the Play Store. So download it from here: http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-jb-20121212-signed.zip
4. Let's get started! First, if you have a Windows machine, download WinDiskReader32 (click). This is to burn the CWM .img to your SD card. Now plug in your SD card into your PC. Extract the CWM files, it was downloaded in step 2. You should have a single file with the extension .img. Load up WinDiskImager, select the CWM file, and also select the drive which your SD card is inserted into. Make sure you do not overwrite any other drive (i.e. C drive), as you will wipe out your whole PC OS. Then hit the "Write" button on WinDiskImager. Your SD card will now have CWM installed (and your SD will be partitioned. This is fine, and you should only see around ~160MB on your SD card; again this is perfectly normal).
5. After burning CWM to your SD card, extract the update file (also downloaded in step two) directly into your SD card. So basically, extract the update file into your SD card, and it will ask if you want to overwrite any existing files, confirm this.
6. Connect your Nook to your PC, whilst on the stock B&N ROM and in MTP mode (if you don't know what MTP is, most likely you haven't changed it, so your can ignore it). Once plugged in. Transfer the ROM file you downloaded in step 1, and Gapps which you downloaded in step 3 to your Nook's "Internal Storage". Transfer the ROM & Gapps (DO NOT EXTRACT THESE FILES, JUST COPY THEM TO YOUR SD CARD) to your Nook HD's internal storage via PC. Once fully transferred, move onto the next step.
7. Turn your Nook off. Eject your SD card from your PC. Place the SD card into your Nook. Turn on your device. At this point, your Nook will constantly restart as it sets up your SD card (don't touch it at this point, let it do it's thing). After a while, you should be booted into CWM. This is when the process of setting up the SD card has been complete.
8. In CWM, select "install .zip from SD card", then select "install .zip from internal sd card". Locate and install the ROM. This may take some time. Once complete, locate and install the Gapps file.
9. This isn't mentioned in the original setup, or anywhere else, but I would recommend that you fix the permission of your Nook HD now, as a fresh install before you proceed to use it. Go to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2233688 and start from Section 5 on the link, once done, return to this thread, then move onto the next step here.
10. Optionally (if you don't want to install, skip to step 11), now you can install a patch by leapinlar. For example, if you boot into CyanogenMod, you cannot use your internal storage. You can only use your SD card. However, if you would like to use your internal storage when in CyanogenMod, install this fix by leapinlar:
NookHD-HDplus-Hybrid-SDSwap-for CM10-10.1-rev2-(03.09.13).zip

From: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=38153094#post38153094 If you install this fix, your internal storage will be used instead of your SD card (this is a bonus for those who are using 2GB SD cards, since they're limited on storage). After this fix, all your apps and everything will treat the internal storage as it's default native storage space.
11. Go to the root menu on ClockWorkMod Recovery, and select "reboot system now". Your tablet will now reboot into CyanogenMod perfectly.
You are good to go. All the best.

It is in Media - so I installed the ROM but my fat fingers clicked something else before I can wipe cache etc. I still need to install GAAPS and your files.
How do I get back to the menu structure that enables me to clear cashe and install from internal sd?

Power Button: To go up one menu, for example if you go into "Advanced", to return to the original menu, you simple press the power key.
Volume Up/Down: These two keys are for navigation purposes, allowing you to scroll up or down the menu respectively. Use these keys to highlight your option.
Home/'n' Button: This is to select the current option, for example, if you're currently hovered over "Reboot system now", and press the 'n' key, your tablet would reboot.
Use the power button.

You mean once you have left CWM and booted to CM10, how do you get back to CWM recovery? Reboot and hold the n key. A boot menu will pop up. Follow the directions there to get to CWM recovery.

Since you wiped it after installing Gapps, there's no need to do it again; as it won't make a difference. But if you want to, simply boot into recovery.
On a Nook HD, to boot into the recovery. Turn off your Nook, and using the boot menu select CWM. Or, if you prefer, follow the guide here from Step 3 to 5: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2233688

What is hanging at 99%? Stock? You should not be booting to stock, you should be booting to SD and selecting CWM recovery in the boot menu.

Use the boot menu to get to stock. To get to CM10 from rooted stock, install an app from Play Store named Quick Boot by Sirius Applications. You can use that to tell it to reboot. If you do not have stock rooted, you must power off and back on.

I downloaded the app - when I go into bootloader from the app, the nook reboots and hangs at 99%.
I do believe I rooted the nook and installed CM10 because I was able to go to play store and download the app.
