Tips & Tricks: Replacing Sense with CM7 - Desire Themes and Apps

I think not only I would appreciate tips how to replace Sense with CM7 with the same functionality.

If you want app suggestions.
Syncmypix for facebook image sync to contacts.
Pure messenger widget to replace friendstream.
Dialer one or go dialer for dial pad quick dial of contacts.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App

I'd say Launcher pro plus, as close as you'll get to Sense but with the upside of fully resizable widgets and other fantastic stuff like an SMS widget that lets you preview your texts at a glance.

I find Go Launcher much smoother. I still have my Launcher pro licence, but its completely uninstalled from my device. Plus its still updated.

go for android make message widgets fb/twitter widgets calendar clock contacts task manager and so on just like LP+ but without having to pay for them... bonus.

I actually did replace a sense 2.1-3.0 mix rom with the latest cm7 nightly just yesterday and I have to say that it's awesome!! i found my way with GO launcher ex which has now a lot of widgets, such as contacts, calendar (both beautiful), facebook and twitter as well... the clock/weather widget is provided by GO weather (with LG skin!!).
I also installed an awesome theme for go launcher, which is RetroPlus..
it is amazing how smooth my desire is now!!
and that new rings lockscreen is just spectacular!!

Huh? Is this a new feature for CM7?

What about a good keyboard replacement? I hate the stock keyboard and love the HTC one.

SwiftKey X is pretty good...
And the biggest tip is: Just go CM7. You wont ever go back.
I was really attached to Sense. Now it gives me the chills. lol

I've gotta say that i would agree with you but there are a few things that are not as good as sense in CM7, such as the camera and Facebook intergration. I think if those 2 were resolved then I'd go back to CM7..

Like rootSU I've a paid copy of Launcher Pro Plus, but after switching to Go Launcher Ex I'm finding it a lot better.
Best keyboard imho is Swype.

+1 on SwiftKey. I find both of the launchers very smooth, but you must set memory preset to 'light' in LPP. After doing so I couldn't make it lag with helicopter view again, even with all 5 screens loaded with widgets. I used my widgets and LPP on top of the Sense roms for 6 months or so.

Alternate dialers have no permission to clear notifications on 2.3.

Here you go. the "only" true sense-like launcher:
http://lpsense.allo-mobile.fr/lp-sense-ui-download-is-here/
+ sense widget pack for this launcher
+ Fancy Widget clock (h7C)
+ Widget Locker (with sense theme)
+ dialer one
+ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=970459 (for t-mobile Theme Chooser)
DONE
(and do not forget to press the thanx button )

Sense replacement

I often see people saying, "I would go to vanilla if..." Facebook syncing, mail support, etc. So I thought it would be a good idea to compile a list of apps that can serve as replacements for sense functionality:
syncmypix - photo syncing with social networking (particularly facebook)
ringdroid - ringtone trimmer
adw launcer - good launcher replacement
launcherpro beta - my personal choice for a launcher
beautiful widgets - weather/clock widget as well as settings toggles (bluetooth, wifi, etc.)
fancy widget - free alternative to the weather/clock widget
cubed (3) - music player
Submit your own replacements, and I'll update the list.
Helix was my primary on my Hero, but the newest ADW is the awesome. I installed all the home replacements and ADW won me over with the customization options: Horizontal or Landscape rotation, ability to peg 4 apps to the tray, ability to add columns/rows, ability to not show icon names, and overall transparency settings.

There is not yet a functioning AOSP ROM, but as soon as HTC releases the kernel source we should have plenty.

No we don't have true vanilla, but we do have more or less "sense-less" roms to some extent. You can basically pull most htc apps out and replace some others with vanilla versions. Not quite vanilla, but I prefer it as little sense as possible.

They wait forever. I dont know if its a sprint thing or htc. But the htc hero it took months for 1.5 source and we have been waiting for close to a month for 2.1 kernel source.
My guess for the evo... its going to be awhile.

Just for peoples information this is a nice android over lay however on our hd2 the android widgets don't actually fit properly on the screen so its pretty unusable,i hope someone fixes this. Worth the download tho just so yall can see what its like!
EDIT: I just realized its not that our widgets are mis aligned and therefore don't fit, its that whilst using touch wiz launcher our android widgets seem to be slightly bigger then they should be....very strange. I wonder if someone with the technical know how could take a look into this because its a nice overlay, I love the simplicity of it and would be great to have fully functioning. But for me nothing beats htc sense so not too bothered

How do we get the epic's launcher?

My friend just got the epic 4g and its got the default android launcher how do we get that on our phone?
There is a way that they and the fascinate can disable tw launcher in their settings. According 2 the article I read, the Captivate and Vibrant lack that ability. Their is a link somewhere around here for the Nexus' launcher2. It works ok-im still using it. Ill try 2 post if I can find it.

LauncherPro is actually FASTER than stock launcher on Nexus One. I had to load Launcher Pro on my friend's Nexus cuz the stock launcher was so darn slow...
I've had lots of problems with LauncherPro. I've installed and removed it about 4 times. It works fine for a few days and then I start to have FC and huge lags. Remove it and everything is working good again.
I've found that Zeam is a great launcher, very minimal to start with but you can add what you want.

Nice find. I could never get myself to enjoy launcherpro either, and actually liked touchwiz. Zeam, however is awesome.
I'm a huge fan of ADW. It runs soo fast, and I'm a huge fan of being able to edit the number of rows/columns, I rather enjoy the High res look, and all my widgets scale correctly.. I love the shortcut bar too.. Best launcher ever.
I tried launcer pro, but I wasn't a fan, i switched back to regular touchwiz until I decided to give adw a go.
http://www.androidcentral.com/yes-you-can-turn-touchwiz-sprint-epic-4g-you-wont-want
Yeah, you can turn off Touchwiz on the Sprint Epic 4G and get rid of the static home screen icons and horizontal launcher. But what you're left with isn't really an improvement. You're stuck with three home screens, an outdated launcher, and a feeling of guilt for not listening to us in the first place.

Tried like four and it came down to ADW and launcher. AT the end I liked the lower scrolling bar for Launcher so I kept that one.
The only thing I liked better on ADW was the themes.

I thought that the Epic was using TW 2.5 because it needed landscape support. Maybe they used that as a base for the other CDMA (fascinate) ROM.
The Captivate and Vibrant both have TW 3.0.

I think both Epic and Fascinate have this feature because Samsung had to make all the TouchWiz apps and data fit in the 2GB of internal RAM, since the user may take out the SD card at any point. Since Vibrant and Captivate have 16GB of non removable memory, Samsung decided to not bother optimizing our TouchWiz as much or for allowing the removal of some of that bloat.
I vote for Odin3 and Launcher Pro - Forget the Epic Launcher
I can't bring myself to try ADW again because I don't think I can live without the Launcher Pro Plus widgets.

how many out there use a Sense build without the sense launcher?

just out of curiosity to see if there's others like me. I cant live without the HTC Keyboard and Dialer.

My dream is CyanogenMod ROM with HTC Sense. I like HTC dialer, contacts and HTC Launcher. But now I'm trying Launcher Pro with Beautiful Widgets and Pure Grid Calendar and it's look also very good. Instead of HTC keyboard I'm using Swype now.
I also like this:

I am currently developing a build at the minute. If anybody knows were I can download a sense rom I can disable sense and just have the features you request. Currently I only have the nexus one builds which I dont particulary like!

There is a Froyo rom for the MyTouch Slide, but it doesn't have the Sense UI, and even though I always use LauncherPro as default and not the Sense Launcher, it feels weird not having Sense UI, so I switched to SlideMEROOT5.
Even though you can use other launcher instead of the Sense Launcher.
The Sense Dialer, Music Player, onscreen-Keyboard, and the Sense Task Bar!!! Are part of the best of the Sense UI !!!

I had to go back to a Sense rom for the dialer. Cannot believe stock Froyo dialer doesn't search contacts as you dial. And the Sense mail app is better too, can actually move mail to folders. Other than that I use Launcher Pro and its widgets.

I like Sense without the Sense Launcher too All the little stuff that HTC brings like the keyboard, fm radio, the camera app is better too. I like Launcher pro with all the shortcut dock.
Like others, I like the "other" features of sense but not the launcher. I especially like that the Facebook link actually works on the sense builds. I use Zeam launcher, because I love the Quick Launch bar and the swipe functions. I am currently using mccm's new sense version and getting ready to try Sergio's new entry.
I really want the Froyo to have Sense already!!!

Hi!
One other feature, in addition to the keyboard and dialer that I cant live without is the link feature in sense contacts. I find that feature extremely useful, the way you can link Facbeook, Google, exchange and phone contacts is unique to sense. I could perfectly well live without the launcher and the sense widgets though.

Do you like HTC Sense or another Launcher

Hi guys
Now I have my new DHD for 3rd days
I like the sense from HTC
Put it missed a lot of features like No of columns and rows and resize the widgets
But if are using another launcher you will loss a lot of good widgets from HTC sense
So what do you like
HTC sense or another launcher and why ?
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
personally stock is the best
but sense is the best one from a manufacturer, however it would be nice to use sense widgets with stock launcher cause htc does have good widgets for email and a few others.
I'm using Launcher Pro in combination with Spare Parts. This way I get the nice widgets AND the eye candy animations I miss from stock android. Never really been a fan of Sense, however I did give it a chance to see if there were any improvements from my previous experiences. It must be said, it feels much more responsive with LP, especially after tweaking. I recommend it to anyone looking for a speed boost and also suggest purchasing the Plus version to support such great development.
Regards.
LauncherPro all the way. Looking forward to the rewrite too.
Put it this way, once the DHD had turned on, I immediately went to the market, downloaded LP and punched in my activation code. Everything else got done after that.
I like HTC Sense, but on my SGS I had Zeam which is very good plus beautiful widgets and that was a very nice combination. I've considered going the same way with the Desire HD but I'll stick with the stock launcher for now.

I went over all of the settings in Launcher pro plus and tried out a little of everything untill I was pleased with it.
Now finally everything is going smooth, unlike the sense interface, which kinda made me feel like a dumbnut for selling my 3GS for the Desire HD. Now I can't be happier with it (ok, yes I can, if it would have a loudspeaker that you could actually hear, because now, when it's in my pocket, I never hear it unless it's absolutely quiet)

There are numerous settings related to scrolling speed, cached pages, appdrawer settings etc. There is no definitive mix of settings it's purely down to the end user's preference. I suggest you download the free version and have a play/tweak and see what suits you best. A few adjustments are for performance and others are purely cosmetic.
The main benefits of LP are the ability to customise the dockbar to hold the shortcuts you actually want. You can manage your desktop much easier when everything is organised the way you like it. One thing I do enjoy is the ability to use the stock android transition animations HOWEVER, after hearing it can increase the rate at which the battery is drained, i'm considering turning them off anyway!
Regards.

Launcher Pro Plus has very nice widgets, widgets which are almost identical to the ones on Sense. I was firmly in ADW camp at one point but as time has gone on I came round to the idea that LP has the better options overall. Not to say that ADW isn't a capable launcher, it's highly customisable and has unique options such as the swipe up dockbar but those nice widgets...... LP all the way!
