Since I'm not getting any answers in the Nexus forums, and I need an answer quickly, and I figured this community is full of kind people, I need a bit of help.
I have a Nexus S 4G and it hasn't been 30 days, and I wanted to go to best buy and trade it for the Epic 4G Touch.
I want to know if this is actually possible, and if I need to bring it in it's box or just the phone, and if I should use an "I didn't like it" excuse or something.
I'm feeling a bit sketchy about it, considering I got it with an upgrade.
if you got it after sept. 9, the window is only 14 days, not 30, otherwise yeah, you can exchange it and pay any difference owed. Don't know if you need the box and everything but I'd imagine you do
I got it on the 4th. Got it for 49.99.

This would be my first time returning.
But there's just one thing I'm worried about. Would I be charged anything? Since I did upgrade it and only payed 50 dollars I'm worried if they would only take 50 dollars off of the E4GT.
Activation fee is 36 dollars

Damn. I'm completely broke. So basically, I shouldn't even bother right now.
Yes you will pay. Unless the epic touch is 49.99 then it will not cost you. Don't go by the retail price because they won't. Hope that makes sense.

From what I see, I'm betting this won't go through lol.
Might be a blessing in disguise. Sure, Epic Touch is amazing from a simple specs perspective, but considering the issues with the Epic 4G and updates, you'll probably get ice cream sandwich before epic touch users do.

it's not an even exchange, the NS4g is $49.99 and the E4GT is $199.99 so you would have to pay the difference ($150.00) plus the activation fee

That depends. Sprint recently got a little more hardcore about their $35 restocking fee. I think you can still do one free "customer satisfaction" exchange within the 14 day window (30 day window for you). If they don't charge you the restocking fee, you only have to pay the difference in price between the two phones, which I believe is $50 right now, but Best Buy has different pricing than other stores.
The $36 activation/upgrade fee should have been charged to your account when you got the Nexus. They won't charge you $36 again for a swap.

so i lost my phone the other night and long story short sprint has awesome customer service, and they pushed me forward to allow me to purchase an "upgrade". kind sucks though right now as i had the evo and currently there's not many more options. what should i do? another evo? i was thinking about the shift and it seems pretty promising hardware and overclocking capabilities?
So, if I were you, I would buy a used phone, and Hold On to that upgrade credit. Even used Evos are kinda cheap right now, and if you "upgrade" to that, well then you are Stuck with that on contract. And thats bad because ...
Currently, there is no "upgrade" from the Evo from Sprint (yes yes, debatable. Some say the Epic is awesome, I don't think so.)
Sprint is about to announce new phones on Tues, and if they let you keep your credit for a few months, you should be able to grab an Evo3D.
wait for the EVO 3D

Its sort of like an in between fee. He paid a small to get his upgrade now, instead of the 3 months when he may have gotten it. The ETF would be as in ending your contract, cutting the sprint service.

Well I said 3 months as an example, it could have been at the end of the year. And as far as I know, the fee is variable, based upon when you ask for it.
So like march > june = smaller fee
march > november = bigger fee.

Even if the price is virtually the same, an ETF and an early upgrade to your line are still different. You keep you current plan and you current account, as well as the time you've been there (aren't there benefits for 10 year customers or something?)
I guess there are reasons to want an entirely new account, I just don't know them.

That makes sense. I didn't realize ETF would cost you your account history. I wonder is the dollar amount is the same though.
I know people who have paid ETFs before because it was only like 50 bucks and they turned right around and signed a new contract and got a 500 dollar phone for 200 dollars. 300 dollar savings makes the ETF worth it in such a case, if its far enough into the contract. (If you don't mind losing account history. Are you certain you lose it?)

I worked for radioshack for 3 years. I deeply loathe that place. Please people don't buy your phones at radioshack. Its all they care about and those prices are so low because district managers pressure associates into not selling phones unless you get accessories with it. Don't believe me? Go ahead and try it. I guarantee you the salesman will turn you away not sell you the handset if you don't get something alongside with it.
Bottom line. Get your phones online. I bought both of my epics back in november for 100? If im not mistaken off of letstalk.com. amazon normally has awesome deals too. Save yourself the hassle of being hassled and don't put money into these corporate pigs pockets.

Yes. The guy at my local radio shack was pushing me towards an Evo. Boo! he said there was no other phone in its class. I said what about the epic? And he just kinda scoffed and said it was a decent phone.

It bad. You get harassed and your job threatened everyday. Your NEVER good enough in that place. For those interested or want to work there this is what you will experience.
Radioshack gets angry if you don't sell they're quota of phones a day. If you sell your phone by itself they get angry. I you sell a phone with accessories (and they have a minimum like 20-40 bucks), cool. Now did you get the warranty? No? Your not good enough. Here's a write up. I remember when the i4 came out and they said it was mandatory to sell the 70$ applecare with it. Lol. Oh and don't forget about the plethora of other **** you gotta do there besides earn commission selling cell phones. Which is essentially the only real way to make money there.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
jeez, I've never had an issue buying a phone at radio shack. I've never bought accessories there and they just seemed happy I was getting a phone.
Lovely.. i'm within 30 days.. now I get to see if i can get best buy to price match/guarantee, or return it (stupid restocking fee) and get it for $100 cheaper.. if it was $20-40 difference I wouldn't bother, but $100.. that's worth some time to get my money back.
My brother is due for an upgrade and he's new to android. I think the phone will be great for him. So I was wondering where is the best place to buy an epic? I'm looking in terms of price and deals. Talked to two different radio shack stores just now. The first store that I called said that its for new contracts only. She even went on to say that she just recently did the same offer for an upgrading customer...so I don't know what to believe.

I paid $60 each shipped for our contract extension Epics. I used wirefly friends and family who runs radio shacks site sales. The price on the Epics seems to change weekley. They are back up to $130 now.
I just shopped around untill I found the best price.
I just talked to a sprint rep about trying to push my upgrade because of the changeover of the premier status from 1yr to 2yrs. I got denied, but I did find out about this buy back (or buy up, I can't remember for sure) program.
If you are within 10 months of your two year upgrade you can pay 75$ and they will reset your eligibility. So granted I can't get a phone now as i'm still 12 months out from 2 yrs, in Oct I can call back and tell them I would like to do this and they charge 75$ to your account and reset your eligibility so you get a full upgrade. It's better than nothing. I hope this helps some people that are looking for a new phone.
I called this number I think it's been posted in other threads to go right to a rep.
877-775-4886
From the sounds of it you should be able to call just normal customer care as well though.
Easy math for the upgrade:
The math is you have to be 10 months from your actual two year upgrade. So if you hit one year aug 1st you can't use this until oct 1.
or
after 14 months this will work.
so how does the math work.. if you were to get a say the nexus s? would it be that much cheaper?

What is the point of buying up? A full 2 year upgrade discount is only $150. So you would still technically pay the same amount for a phone(that isnt free). I was told I could buy up for $45. subtract that from the full discount and my current $75 discount and they are only saving me an extra $30 bucks on a $500+ phone. it would be cheaper to pay an etf then sign a new contract or wait two months after a full upgrade and sign a new contract. This is just my understanding.

It's good to get the reset to take advantage of deal prices for upgrading to a new phone. For instance if you had an upgrade best buy was giving away nexus s for free today. think about it when the epic came out with an upgrade it was only 150 or something without it was like 5 hundo +, so I'd pay the 75 to save that much.

if you really really want a discount... did you guys know that the 2yr 1yr contract renewal price for phones is the same... & also the same if you were a random person who never had sprint... sprints "discounts" are a scam... everyone in the world gets the same discount no matter how long youve been or not been with sprint, so that being said call sprint & ***** to em about how youve been a loyal customer for however long & why does some random person get the same discount as me & your going to drop sprint when your contract ends & goto verizion or att or whatever... this is what i do every time i want a new phone & they will gladly give you at least an extra $75 credit toward a new phone or on your bill

I think you'd have no trouble getting $100 for an Epic on Craigslist or eBay. I have no plans to upgrade to the Epic touch, but if I did, I'd actually rather keep my Epic as a backup and as a wifi-only device than get $100 for it.

This
I had to trade in my palm centro for $50 off my epic...I still miss that phone.
sent from my uncyanogen modded epic 4g. with the key skips.
I was speaking with my Sprint rep downtown last weekend and they'll buy back the Epic for over $100 right now. I can't remember if it was $105 or $110 but you can guarantee that's the cheap end. He even told me I could probably do better selling it online.
so is that $100 off of retail if you sell it back to them or $100 off the "contract" price?

I agree.
Sent from the future.
The epics are selling on ebay for $130 or so. After ebay and paypal fees you'd probably get about $100 for it. If I was going to get rid of my epic I'd rather give it to sprint for $100 than deal with selling it to a stranger.
they are going for about $200-250 on craigslist. go that route if you are in a major city with lots of CL activity.

Incidentally I was told $105 yesterday. They go for $125-130ish on eBay.
the other guy is right about ebay and paypal fees, your likley to end up paying 25 dollars in ebay and paypal fees.
I rather hope that Radio shack goes $99 for it like the Photon 4G.
