Quick brief:
I am still on 2.1, but I am rooted.......but not using any custom ROM/kernels. I mainly wanted to root to rid of the bloatware. I am rooted, and have CW installed. I used RootExplorer to rid of the bloatware. I have one ongoing issue, and 2 getting progressively worse.
1) My battery has progressively started to wear down faster. I've had my phone over a year now, so I went ahead and purchased a new factory battery. I have properly cycled the battery as you should with a new one (kill it dead, let it charge fully.....did this a couple times). I have not noticed much more of an extended life with the new battery, over the original.
2) I have been using LauncherPro since I rooted. I understand a custom ROM would probably run a ton better, but I barely was able to root my phone successfully by myself.....so I am not sure I want to try flashing it. I really like the customizable features LauncherPro has. Recently though, the phone has gotten really laggy. I notice it most when using the text feature. I had Handcent installed, which I downloaded on the phone at day 1.....so I figured it was that app hanging up. I uninstalled it, and am using the default messaging service. Sometimes its fairly quick, but it still hangs up......even using the default. I also tried DL'ing a new Launcher, and tried Regina. It was lightning fast, but after a few hours....it wouldn't run properly. I assigned it to run as default, but after 3-4 hours.......it would prompt me on which launcher to use.......so I uninstalled it. Now I am still using the default TW launcher.
3) When I rooted, I deleted a few apps that are critical to run nav......like text to speech. I reinstalled them and got my nav working again.....but 90% of the time when I use nav......it takes the upwards of 10-15 minutes for it to find my location. Wtf? My phone is super hot by then too, so obviously my battery drops significantly.
Anyone help out with any sorts of resolution? Fwiw I don't have any apps running that I can see in task manager. I also have cache cleaner......so that is emptied regularly. When I started getting laggy, I installed the cache cleaner.....and it seemed to help alot. Then it got right back to as laggy as it was before......
I'm stumped.
Well, 2.2 came out a while ago and 2.3 is on its way. I say upgrade to 2.2 then to MIUI.

Oh ok, thanks for clearing it up.......sorry for the noobiness.
I have a friend that has flashed his Galaxy multiple times.....so I am going to get him to flash my Fascinate. I'll find the DL for that one, and show him.
Anyone else have any idea why I could be so laggy, so sudden? Also, I noticed lag when using PowerAmp as well.
Not a clue, haven't been on 2.1 in such a long time. 2.3.5 here. But usually doing a full wipe/reinstall solves any lag issues. As for the gps, well, it sucks tremendously on our fascinates. I suggest the MIUI rom and glitch kernel. I get great battery life, no lag, 10 sec gps lock, and so much more

+1 for this using the glitch kernel found here:

i also flashed the latest gingerbread radio and im having good results
I'll definitely research those mentioned.
Just seems odd my phone all of a sudden force closes on alot of apps I've used since day 1.

Did you use Super-1-Click-Root to root your phone? It has a nasty side-effect of lagging up the phone post-root (at least in my, and others' experience)
Try turning off your phone, pulling out the battery for a minute, putting it back in and rebooting. That fixed mine.

Nope, I did it using one of the methods in the sticky in this forum. Thanks for the suggestion though.
I'd suggest following the steps to flash completely back to stock FIRST using pentafive's rom here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178544) and ODIN (your friend will know this if they've flashed a lot of phones). Do not use PST, it doesn't always work. Once you get fully back to stock, flash whatever new rom, radio, kernel, etc that you want (see here for a good list... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1013312).
I was having a lot of force closes after rooting (manually via adb) and a flash back to stock using penta's ROM corrected them all. I then flashed on to a new ROM and have had zero problems so far.
maybe get 2.2 or 2.3 and get voodoo?
Update:
Haven't flashed a ROM yet, but I got bored and wanted to try some easy things. I popped the cover off and took the SD card out, and rebooted the phone. Fast as lightning on reboot, with the SD card out. I stuck the card back in......and it was fine. It went 3-4 days, then all of a sudden starting lagging again really bad. Mind you, before I just pulled the card out......I clear my cache, don't have any apps running besides the launcher and whatever app I am trying to run, and have also rebooted with/without removing the battery many times......to no avail. So after 3-4 days, when it got laggy again......I took the SD card out and rebooted, and its fast as lightning again.
Corrupt SD card possibly?

Anyone have a suggestion? This has happened many times now, it keeps repeating itself.
Phone starts lagging, removed SD card and reboot, fast as lightning. After 1-2 days, lagging again. Repeat.
If your SD was corrupted the phone would let you know, or things would start disappearing from the card.
This is the nightmare that we fassy owners have got to go through till we find the right Rom and tweak. Gingerbread has made this phone way better whether you use a TW or an Mtd Rom. Do some research and try one of them
Don't be afraid, it's fun

Thanks for the reply. I am definitely not afraid to change ROM's, I'm just afraid to do it myself. I'll be doing it in the next week or two, a friend from work is going to flash it for me.
As for the laggy times though......I can't see how the card isn't the culprit. Every single time my phone gets laggy, when I pull the SD card it.....its lightning. A few times also, when the phone is starting to lag......I'll open my gallery and its usually all jumbled up, or it won't show me all of my pictures.
Maybe I need to reformat my SD card? Can I do that through my phone somehow?

Ok, so stock Vibrant "lag". What does this mean, precisely? I'm a rooted but otherwise stock JI6, and I don't see any lag anywhere on the phone.
If I were to be experiencing this lag, what would it look like?

Get Xscope V5 (V6 is buggy) browser for free x-labs.net and use it for a day or two. Notice how slow it loads webpages sometimes. Or try Miui Browser (not in market) GUI lags a little too
The LAG that most people are talking about is when you switch windows or open a new app. Sometimes when doing this, the phone will seem to freeze for a moment before going to the new app or page.
With Voodoo lagfix, I have not seen this happen once, where with stock it happened all the time.
If you have rooted your phone and gone down the mod rabbit hole, lagfix is well worth it.
I installed a LagFix recently like I did months ago and saw no huge change in performance (barely any change really) This "lag" problem is about as overblown as it could be. Firefox runs as smoothly as it can (it's not that smooth, beta and needs 40MB of ram on my phone. JFD firmware was did have some lag issues though that we're a problem. Some serious lag was solved by a factory reset or by reloading the OS. The lagfix isn't worth the reduced app space or lesser reliability. If you have no problems with how your phone is running, don't bother with any hacks like that.
Some people randomly got major lag when updating from JFD to JI6. A data wipe solves it.. and they couldn't be happier.
The 'lag' that you see people complaining about does not happen on all phones, all the time.
And I need to remind you to be careful about installing any lagfix. Read up on what it does and how it may affect your phone BEFORE installing it.

Agreed, you might think the phone is fast now but when you install the lag fix you'll definately notice a difference.
It amazed me when I had to go back to stock (after soft bricking my phone) and I had to install rom manager from the market while everything was stock and it was crazy how slow it was.

Am interested in seeing said video.
Here is a video I took a while back. I'd be interested in seeing the lag. I know someone with a DROID X, behavior is exactly the same when opening apps. It was the same when I installed the lag fix.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jl1Q2qlRNwE
I'm on stock JI6, non-rooted.
I think what I'm experiencing is considered lag.
It doesn't happen all the time but it is annoying when it does.
Sometimes it'll take 10 seconds for an app to launch.
It's especially bad if I have more than a couple of apps going at the same time.
Some of this can be worked around, keeping as few apps going as possible. I don't use a task killer, I just back out of apps instead of switching home and keeping the app in memory.
There are certain apps where it seems to be worse in.
The Facebook app is horrible to the point where I don't use it but I'm not sure if that's the app or the phone. I can't scroll a page without the phone locking up for 3-4 seconds. Clicking on anything takes about 3-5 seconds for it to register.
I'm pretty disappointed in Samsung in general with their software. The hardware is great, the software just sucks.
One of these days I'll get around to installing another ROM.

You obviously have something else going on here.. Facebook runs with no problems on my phone. If you flash another rom everything will be wiped, just the same as what I said above. The FB app taking 10 seconds to load and locking up the phone is NOT normal behavior.

Everything else is pretty much okay.
I think I'm going to try one of the other ROMs. Just need to find some time.
Also, I'm dreading having to go through the whole process of reinstalling and reconfiguring everything. I might have to try titanium backup so that I don't have to do that.
Hi, I've had a droid x for a few month now and just recently updated it to apex 1.4. Anyway my question is about my phone rebooting randomly. Seems like every day or two my phone will just reboot. I probably wouldn't even notice if it didn't make a sound when it booted up.
I bought the phone second hand and ran it stock for a long time although it was rooted. It has rebooted as long as I can recall. I was hoping upgrading the rom to apex 1.40 might fix that but no luck.
So my question is, is this normal? Does your droid x occasionally reboot itself?
Since mine does this do you think that it might be a hardware problem?
thanks for any help.

It's hard to tell what the cause is of reboots. It could be some many random things. Most running DX’s don’t have a random reboot quirk. Corrupt file/s is normally the culprit. I would back up all your information and apps (nandroid) and try a fresh factory reset. You can SBF or maderstcok if you wanted or, you can use the factory reset option on your phone and see if that helps. If not, a clean slate is what you might need. If after that it still reboots, you will need to SBF with RSD Lite or maderstcok and if it still persists, then I am afraid you will have to rather live with it or use it as a fancy paper weight.
Are you overclocked?
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
No I'm not overclocked and I was thinking it might be a bad file or something but after reflashing from stock to apex 1.4 and removing a lot of the blur apps I was having great speed and everything was running real nice. Then this morning it just rebooted...
Before I flashed it when I had it on stock rooted it was doing this reboot thing for awhile. Maybe every couple days. Not a huge deal since it reboots pretty fast and doesn't do it often. Just a pain sometimes.
Only things I think it could be now are bad hardware maybe I got a memory error or something. Or perhaps it is something I have installed that is causing it. I guess I could uninstall all my apps but then I'd have to cry so I guess I'll just live with it. I just wondered if this was just the baseline reliability of the device... Once upon a time I had a palm treo devices and it would crash and reboot all the time. Even when I replaced it it still did that. Friends that had one had similar issues. So for the palm treo it was just the standard that it would crash frequently. The bad thing is it would crash and not reboot
Reboots with Liberty 1.5
I am having the same issue with Liberty 1.5. I first moved from stock to Darkslide, and had no trouble. Then when liberty 1.0 released, I moved to that. I had other issues with liberty 1.0 but not reboots, but now with 1.5 I am getting reboots. I have already reformatted the SD card, restored to factory, and did a fresh install, but even though it seems to be less frequent, it has already happened twice today. I do have the throttle hack installed as I was getting clipped to less than 150k down.

It may be placebo, but I feel like the patch has made it more stable, but at the same time I have had three resets and a black screen freeze since I have installed it. My guess is in the throttle hack. Tomorrow I will do a fresh install and try to narrow down the culprit.
Hey all:
I have been traveling on business all week, and was just wondering if there was new news about GB being in the playbook this week? I have a feeling if it were, it would be top of the forum, but just in case it is in a "unobvious" thread, I thought I would ask.
Here is my next question. My Samsung Epic is completely stock, except for being rooted. I have noticed it is really slow when switching to the home screen, and switching to and from apps. It is ESPECIALLY slow when bringing up the TwLauncher sometimes. I have tried clearing data on the TwLauncher to see if there was corruption, but same thing. I have about 110 apps installed on my phone, and all of the apps that can be moved to the SD card are already there.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

No, and what is the question on the second one?
No news on GB.
Other question....your homescreens are taking longer because it takes longer to access and find all the apps on your sd card. SD card access is slower so the more apps on it the more it will slow down. Clean some apps off your homescreen that are on the sd card that you don't use and see if that speeds it up a little.

ouch. I had a feeling this was the case. Let me ask this.
I have the stock SD card in my phone (class 4 I think). If I bought a class 10, is the phone capable of utilizing those faster speeds, and would I notice the difference?

1. No news
2. You are running out of memory.
No, I had a class 10 card (recently got corrupted and I changed back to the included Samsung sd card) and I still had this issue.
I've heard that the biggest reason we see this issue with the home screen is because the Epic uses the RTS (murderous) file system. As you are rooted, I believe you can search for the solution someone had that puts a 1GB swap space on the SD card that uses EXT4.
This is interesting.
I wonder if a Class 10 card would help if the swap file is on the SD. I almost wish I would have installed the stock ROM without the bloatware, as I think that would also help my situation, since my internal memory is down to around 60 megs...
hmmmmm.

I have 140 apps and 98% of those are on my SD card - the other 2% that "can" go on the SD card, I don't move because those apps are in folders on my home screens and if moved to the SD card, on next boot the icons change to a default Android icon instead of the normal app icon.
With that being said, I am stock and rooted like you except that I have a kernel so I can overclock my cpu. My phone is fast and stable in every way and so is my wife's epic which I have set up almost the same way - I have no problems with speed in switching or opening apps.
I would try overclocking but stay stock IMHO.

I dread doing this. I use two paid backup programs (Titanium and MyBackup).
Neither of them seem to backup the actual data that the applications use. What do I mean by that? I am talking about the saved login information for an app, as well as preferences, etc. It is never as easy as it should be.

I would only do the kernel and not a rom yet, baby steps! Read the OP at least 3 times so you can understand.
Make sure you make a nandroid before you try this, just in case somethings goes wrong. When overclocking, don't mess with undervolting until everything is stable, then baby steps.

I run exactly whats in my signature. I have duplicated the same setup on my wife's phone with the exception that I keep hers clocked no higher than 1.3ghz. Where I float back and forth between 1.3ghz and 1.4ghz, because I am testing battery life. I get as good or better on battery life and a snappier phone on 1.3ghz and a little less battery at 1.4ghz, but that is only when I play a game at 1.4ghz. Under normal daily usage, I would still have to give the edge in battery life to 1.3ghz, but 1.4ghz sure is fast!
I have the free version of Titanium Backup and my App Data restores perfectly.
I'm thinking same as one of the other posters, more than one instance of your apps are killing your ram, what I do is chop down on apps, and look at what apps are running under processes. Remember that out of those 110 apps you have installed, not every single one has optimized programming code, so in theory, half of those are making new bugs that your phone has to bitterly endure. For titanium backup I do batch restore apps+data. Maybe you're just not restoring right. There's so many options that I find it possible. Imo opinion, I don't reccommend OC if you want battery life and for your epic's overall life to end sooner. As for gingerbread news nothing new yet, but it'll come out when we least expect it, I'm sure.

I dread doing this. I use two paid backup programs (Titanium and MyBackup).
Neither of them seem to backup the actual data that the applications use. What do I mean by that? I am talking about the saved login information for an app, as well as preferences, etc. It is never as easy as it should be.

I have MyBackup Pro and I don't even use that anymore, as I nandroid every 3 to 5 days or when I am going to do something drastic that could cause problems from the unknown. As an example my last unknown that was kind of glitchy was when I upgraded to Superuser went to 3.0
If you are rooted, just do a nandroid, if you have a crash, it will bring everything back just like it was when you made the nandroid.

And "that" is why I said to just flash a kernel first. I am almost sure he would go nuts, because he has to flash SRF 1.1 first then SFR 1.2, then a kernel and make sure he has been converted to ext4 from rfs, than probably have journaling on, and the list goes on.
Go kernel first! And if that works and is stable and your phone works perfect after a week of use, then you can go on to the next step!

That is awesome advice. That is what I did back in November. Genocide was the first thing I flashed after rooting to change my bootanimation.
Its due to apps on sd card having a shortcut on a home screen or on a folder on a home screen. I don't think file system, kernel, or ROM will improve that very much. I would hate for you to go to all the work to find no improvement.
The cache and speed tweaks could help and a faster card could help. You might also give a new launcher a try. In the end, I decided to just keep apps on internal memory that I needed on home screen. Same as the 98% - 2% guy above.

Don't know what the hell is going on but it's so frustrating I am about to throw my phone out the window. Recently I upgraded to stock plus v3.01 ROM and also Ext4 4 ALL kernel since I was running into the dreaded data/data memory full issue. Everything seems to be working fine until recently the phone would slow to a crawl right around midnight, I would be watcing a flash video clip before midnight, then right at 12, everything just slow down and nothing I do would resolve this...I can reboot, take the battery out..etc..phone would still be super slow, pretty much the same way until next morning. GoLauncher EX would crash all the time during this time as well, is if there's some kind of ghost process running in the background sucking up all the resources. I checked Mybackup and doesn't look like there's any schedule backup service...so I am pulling my hair out still don't know what's wrong. Anyone else experienced this before, any idea what can be causing this?
This happened to me when i was using that same rom! What i did was just install a different rom.
Try looking on Ebay for a new flux-capacitor for it they always go bad
I had this ROM too... it was cool, but a battery hog.... Back to CM7 Nightly's.... shouldn't have left to begin with....
1. does not belong in this forum
2. try asking the developer, or even in the ROM's forum
Too much porn. Those midnight shows will do it.

Thanks for the feedback..looks like the ROM is the culprit..time to upgrade to something else
Cool story bro
CM7 nightly
Haven't had any problems with Stock+ regarding this issue....
definitely very strange.....
Very strange issue. Has it been reported to the ROMs dev?
So tried to add this to the alpha 5 topic, but I do not have 10 posts yet.
I flashed from MIKG 3.0 to alpha 5 on Friday with no issues. I ran the fix for the google calendar and was happy with the overall setup. I added the COD tweaks and was impressed with the speed/smoothness of the system. Camera worked out of the box and didn't have any real issues until tonight.
Phone randomly restarted, no big deal. but then I noticed that i had degraded signal. did the *18 call with no change. I had to send a few texts and they all hung and finally failed. restarted phone and same issue occurred.
With the ROM still being a WIP I was not upset, it just isnt a daily driver yet, close though.
next issue was when i restored from nandroid. I hung at the boot screen for ever. Pulled battery and did full wipe and tried again to no avail. I was getting worried at this point. I did have an earlier nan backup of MIKG and that one worked.
Oh and much to my kids dismay angry birds would not load.
Not really looking for any help just trying to get my posts in.
Thanks!

nice info ive been trying to find out how the ics roms are going cuz i havent had time to flash myself. but in regards to your nandroid restore not working. what recovery are you using? (you should use amon-ra 2.3 if you aren't already) and also the mikg restores take a while to load because sense 3.0 is huge, if it doesn't load in about 2-3 minutes then just pull the battery and start it up (don't wipe) and it should boot right up in a reasonable time. it happens occasionally. and welcome to xda saw you had one post so i figured i would welcome you
I have flashed multiple versions of MIKG all wit CWM, it was up in the 7-10 min boot loop time. the kick stand was getting warm. I started with the batt at 90% and when I was finally back up it was at 20%.
I as well can't post. I came from cm7. I used from manager to back up cm7 then install alpha5. Worked fine for me. Using cwm instead of ra though. Not sure if that makes any difference.

I would try to flash with ra. The rom is working great for me as a daily.
Only issue I had with Deck's ICS was no GPS for Navigation.
You may have to do the GPS fix by going into sense rom

I have tried it with no success. Guess my phone just hates GPS It happens with every other ROM I flash. I keep the GPS fix file on my SD card, GPS status/toolbox app, and a fresh sense ROM at hand just in case.

Yeah there's something always wrong with CWM I have used amon-ra since February and have had no problems with it. Also as a sidenote with amon my mikg back up with 300mb of apps took all of 5 minutes to back up and like 8% battery. If your backup drained 70% of your battery there is definately something wrong haha

Glad you posted this here.
I don't have enough posts either. I like the ROM but i had a few random reboots too. I flashed from Team Nocturnal stock RLS.5. I also use CWM for Nandroid. I was getting around in ICS well but had a few hangups. Calandar was the biggest issue, but I think I remember that being mentioned, so no biggie. The only major issue I cared about and I don't know if this has been any one else's problem, but my benchmark was significantly lower on this ROM. 805 on quadrant. Just wanted to post if anyone is reading. That would explain why it was a little jerky.
almost there!! lol
ics was really fun to play with. have u tried swapping to nova launcher? it seemed to free the rom up a bit and make it much more tolerable. I do like trebuchet because it seems to look better imo.
my gps seemed to work fine after i flashed this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15760767&postcount=30 it did cut out eventually but that was after a flash to a 3.0 rom ( not to do the gps fix btw) and nandroiding back sooooo i dunno could have been something got fubared in there
there was a calendar fix somewhere in the 400 page post. you had to flash a specific gapps and calendar fix.
Flashed Decks a5 the day it was released. Loved it. I'm still running CWM and haven't had any issues. I did install the GPS drivers listed in a GPS fix post and use Waze for navigation. Quick lock and solid. Gmail sync and calendar sync worked as well, using Jorte as my calendar. I used the file titled ICSGoogleApps12-16. My only issues were the jerky video and most games I played wouldn't load.
Amazing work, I tried all the other ICS rom's and I had less issues and smoother operations with Deck's.
Great talent. I have no complaints cause I know it is all a work on progress. I can't believe my old EVO is running ICS before my buddy who just got a new phone...... priceless! !!!!!

After flashing any new ROM or ROM update I always flash the latest GPS Fix from here ...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1132412
... and the latest Radio Combo from here ...

It always fixes GPS lock for me (CM7 nightlies, ICS Evervolv, Deck ICS). Always Nandroid backup of course. I don't use Sense ROM's so YMMV.

Similar experience as well.
I'm using the Google Calender sync and don't seem to be having any problems with it. Haven't tried that GPS fix though, gunna try that tonight.
I've noticed as looking through the official thread it seems many people have a problem with the trebuchet (sp) launcher on page 7 of the widgets. I'm having no issues. Anyone else like this?

I had an issue with the stock launcher on page 7 of the widgets. I just switched to Nova Launcher and have had not problems, in fact I personally like it better.
I've also been using this rom lately. Although it has some features broken, its still very very usable. Makes me realize how much I don't use "premium" features.

Also, this from us very snappy and smooth. But when I do quadrant benchmarks, it gets a score of about 945, which is lower than stock evo and lower than my 1500 scoring miui rom, but it feels faster nonetheless. Is this a product of the hardware acceleration?

Disregard what I said. I'm actually using drew's. So many ics roms out there.

So I've been running decks for awhile now, no problems. Only thing is I get a random freeze and reboot about once a day or so. Anyone else having that issue?
