Don't get me wrong I am a diehard HTC fan, I will never buy another phone. However, imo sense is overrated and somewhat of a memory hog. Once you go cyanogen you will never flash another rom again. Hey that rhymed!
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide using XDA App

Actually, Sense UI has been greatly improved in terms of functionality and look in comparison to CM6/7. Now if you're talking about memory, that's a whole different ball game. Sense will eat up your memory, but do more and aesthetically superior (imo) to other android UI. Default android UI doesn't offer as much aesthetically or functionally out of the box, but leaves you with more memory for other stuff. Just a trade-off you have to deal with.

Htc hd2 vs samsung vibrant

So I've been using my hd2 for about 2 months now and I hate windows so I've been trying out all the android builds which I love. I'm currently using darkstone froyostone w/o sense and before this I was running his other build froyohd2..and since I'm running chuckydroidrom I don't even see windows anymore. But today I went into tmobile and I saw the vibrant and its absolutely beautiul.. very fast and android is native. So I need some input.. what do you guys think? Any pros and cons for both phones any advice would be greatly appreciated thanks!!

I have both and constantly find myself switching up.i like the vibrant for the screen clarity but the I like the hd2 for the screen size but I think once android is completely stable for the hd2 and is able to be flashed on nand it will be my daily phone and I'll probably wind up selling the vibrant.so I say keep the hd2 and wait just a little longer for a good android build

I had my HD2 for about two weeks. I tried a few android builds, and they mostly worked, but there were little quirks about them that bugged me. One didnt have bluetooth, one only seemed to work with a specific radio, etc...
I really liked the big screen of the HD2, and the metal back made it feel really sturdy, but I native android beat out that.
I like my vibrant. The back feels a little slick, but its also lighter. While the screen on the HD2 was bigger, I dont miss it much.
I'm sure as time goes on android for the HD2 will get better, so it's really a matter of if you want to wait or not.
Damn idk ill prolly just wait it out and see how far android could go on my hd2

Try the new FroyoStone Android build with Sense, it's amazing and the most stable build as of yet. I use it as my dailey OS and it works great =D
yeah im running froyostone with sense but using launcherpro with beautiful widgets.. its running great except for the fact that u cant touch on the screen freezes and i get ocassional dark blank screens
Wait it out with the HD2.
If you really want to abandon the HD2, rumors speculate an HTC Android phone equipped with a dual-core processor heading to T-Mobile in Q4. If anything, wait for that, rather than getting the Galaxy S [now].

I don't get those with my setup. I think launcherpro is what's causing the current issues in the Android builds.

It is a nice phone i just dont like samsung software...also the camera does not have flash...and as we all know the screen is bigger on the hd2...but the hummingbird processor that samsung has is quick then the hd2's snapdragon...it all depends on what you like. Also you have to give the devs a little more time with android on hd 2...they are almost there the hd2 will be worth it in the long run until somwthing much better will come out in a couple of months...

Apparently, the Froyo update for the Slide was supposed to occur after the original unrooted MyTouch devices [if there were any left] got their updates. Hey, we might be getting it before 2011! lol
The first confirmation from TMO said (right after the Slide launch) that the myTouches would be on 2.2 by the end of 2010.
Heres to hoping someone can get a funtioning BT driver from the release when it happens, would be nice to go back to wireless when driving on CM6
There is another post in the general section discussing this exact announcement ...
but this news is exciting! This phone is not dead to me and it's my phone until the dual cores come out. The Vibrant, G2 and MT4G are simply not worth the additional financial investment at this point (sweet deals aside). 2.2 and Wi-Fi Calling will be sweet on this great phone. Now maybe I can get back to my patient waiting because I don't want to be disappointed/frustrated by a "very soon/whenever we want" OTA announcement.

With you on that. Nothing worth shelling out a boat load of money every few months just to have some fancy little bell or whistle that our slide didn't have. But, when something new changes the game and capabilities of a phone, that's the time to upgrade.

The only thing I dislike with Android on the HD2 is that its not stable enough for everyday use. I love that the HD2 is able to run flash 10.1 and the large screen but that's it.

kinda have to dis agree with that.. i used to run it as everyday driver for a month straight with no lags and stuff... but had to downgrade to slide for the qwerty keypad
it even disappoints me that my former hd2 (running droid) battery last longer than the slide

I guess we're gonna disagree once again. The battery on the HD2 did not run better than the Slide's battery when I had froyo on it. The HD2 with froyo worked impressive for a phone that wasn't meant to run Android, but it was not as user friendly as a phone that came with android from the factory. The phone lagged compared to the Slide, scrolling was choppy sometimes and it occassionally froze and that was a deal breaker for me cause when it froze I had to pull out the battery and it was back to Windows Mobile since I did not have dual bootloader (or whatever its called). One thing I do miss is being able to use Adobe flash 10.1

Yes. You should.
Currently there are roms such as:
Windows Mobile (Striped down to the essentials)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=843221
Auto loads android upon boot. I've tested this and it worked quite nicely.
I didn't like the fact that the android rom wasn't clean(being themed) so i've moved on.
Energy Rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=654504
Im currently using the GTX version of this paired with MDJ Froyo Sense Clean for a true HTC Sense UI
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=780525
Overall im super impressed that this is a phone that performs nicely with an OS that it wasn't designed for.
There have been other roms such as G2, evo, and some other modified ones ported to the HD2. I would definitely trade if you like having a forum that has new roms to try out whenever you get bored with your current one.
If you can stomach a swap to wmo for a little bit, things are about to get real interesting on the HD2. Developers are extremely close to releasing a NAND flash that will let HD2 users essential remove windows mobile and use Android as a primary os. (Dual boots not too much further down the pipeline as well.)
http://htc-linux.org/wiki/index.php?title=Leo/Magldr
Sorry for the wall of text, but I hope it helps.
Edit:
One more thing to add.
WP7 via NAND from the developer of HSPL for HD2 (Cotulla)
http://pocketnow.com/windows-phone/windows-phone-7-shown-on-the-hd2
I thought this was a thread about froyo for the Mytouch slide not an hd2 thread

NAND EVO Build Why Not?

Okay I have asked this question in the Android Q & A but no one answered, so I am going to try here.
How come no one is making a NAND Rom based on the EVO? I would have thought that the EVO is very close to specs as the HD2 as well as the desire that everyone talks about. So can anyone say why there is no build?
Motoman you can chime in here too since It seems your the only one that did make one for the SD version.
The HD2 is a lot more like the desire hardware-wise than the Evo. The Evo is CDMA and has all that WiMax stuff going on, and doesn't really offer anything that the desire port doesn't. What are you looking to gain from an Evo port? A bunch of 4G settings you can't use? Sprint crapware? I can't really see any pros.
Some people say the evo runs smoother, at least on sd build

it all depends on the kernel you're using, I've run an Evo ROM from SD and didn't notice it any smoother or faster than a desire port, both using hastarin kernel.

Actually thats part of the reason, I used the SD version and it did seem to run a bit smoother and transitioning between menus or section felt less laggy, not saying that the dft nand rom is slugish, but feels different. And while on the topic, what is the real advantage between the desire and the desire hd? I see that as a topic as well and reading that the desire hd would run slower, whats its major difference or gain of the HD?
And no not trying to get get all the 4g stuff since obviously that wont work on ATT, but when the android was running from SD I tried many but always found myself going back to motomans carbon evo remix.

I would love to have sense on my Gingerbread as well. But there are alternatives to sense also. Search Beautiful Widgets, Beautiful Animations, Beautiful Live Wallpaper, Beautiful Home Weather and install those.

First of all, welcome over to the HD2, Trib! I hope you are planning to cook for us, it would be cool to see what you come up with
I like the Beautiful Widgets (et. al.) but Sense has so much more to offer, like the Skins and FriendStream. I've recently switched to pulse from the sense News Widget, so I'm not married to the Sense widgets, but then there is more to Sense than the eye-candy.
I've tried and liked CM6 and CM7 ROMs in the past, but I was an early-adopter of Gingerbread and was turned off by the lack of available stuff in the Market. I plan to go back (err. forward) some day, but I am going to wait for Sense this time.
Thank you for the welcome, mate.
Hopefully there will be Honeycomb for us some day. I was thinking about waiting to cook then; there are too many ROMs right now for us in the Android HD2 marquie.
I do have some idea though. So if we never see Android 3.0, then I will show what I have in mind.

You are right about those widgets, but as some one else said, sense has much more things to offer.. For example people (phonebook),and smart dialer.. Those 2 things are only things that are keeping me away from gingerbread or CM builds.. If there is a way to have sense like phonebook and dialer,i would switch to ginger or CM instantly..

Google has specifically stated that Honeycomb is for tablets only and the UI wasn't intended to work on smaller screens. Engadget said something about a guy here on XDA hitting a settings switch in the SDK that turned Honeycomb into a smaller, phone-like aspect without the major UI stuff.
I'm not so concerned about Honeycomb, except that it threatens to fragment Android (tablet vs phones) right now. I think Gingerbread could be perfect if Google could get BT HID licensed without having to pay for it.
thx for the answers. i hope htc publish sense for gingerbread soon. it was very fast on my hd2.

If you want TouchWiz, you can download TouchWiz 4 pack for MIUI, install MIUI, and install the pack. It might work (and might not).
Use some Google search to get the files. The pack is 161MB. I believe it's somewhere in Galaxy S or S2 sections.
Thanks Jack_R1 is that pack more miui though? Or does it run just like a touchwiz rom? Cause im not that MIUI friendly lol...
Sent from my HTC Glacier using xda premium
This is a complete TouchWiz, except for system menus and dialogs.
You can try to install it over CM7, I believe there were reports of it working.
I remember seeing sense ROM's available for Samsung phones that normally ran Touchwiz. I suppose the reverse SHOULD be possible. Though porting a ROM to a phone with completely different hardware that no other touchwiz ROMs are available for would be a pain. No examples to learn from and so on.
Hmm. Any Devs with thoughts?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
It could be done, but it would be very very very hard and time consuming. EDT at one point was trying to port sense to the vibrant, but that really didnt end up as anything, so I would assume it would be the same porting TW to the mytouch. Im sure the right dev with enough time could get a port working.
sorry i cant answer your question but i have an alternative.
if you just want touchwiz 4 and UI that looks like SGSII, here:
1. flash CM7
2. find samsung theme for theme chooser (can be found here anyway)
3. install the theme
4. install the touchwiz 4 from here
5. you done, simple like that.

The same reason people put CM7 and/or MIUI on the MT4G. Maybe he doesn't want the bloated Sense and would rather have a TW4 GB UI that already has hardware accelerated launcher and much less bloat.
With that said, as nice as it'd be, it's not possible. The list goes on in what you would need to put TW4 on any phone that's not Samsung.

Galaxy S 1 or 2? Because there's a big difference. My gf's stock SGSII is the smoothest and fastest I've ever tried, faster than any custom ROM that I've ever tried. There's no TW4 for SGS1, just TW3.
There are custom ROMs with TW4 on SGS1.
This thing will quickly become laggy if you seriously use it, whatever you put on it. Except MIUI.
