They had a display model Galaxy Tab 8.9 16gb for $400.It had been opened and they sold it to me. The screen looks way better than my wife's 10.1 and it is light as paper. WooHOO!!!!

They use a different screen for the 8.9?
The super pls screen is actually a beautiful screen. Best out right now imho. But the 8.9 using the same screen will increase ppi making the screen look even more crisp. Can't wait for the next generation of tabs

Does this mean they will start selling it, or not? Why do they only have a display unit?

The store manager sold it to me. He said that they opened it to look at it then returned it to the box. I didn't see any more on display or in the cage.
Considering how imminent the next generation tabs will appear, I see little to no point to buy this. It's just a waste of money to get a Tegra 2 based tab at this moment.

Not true. Higher DPI forces your eye muscles to contract more tightly to focus on the smaller text. This causes greater eye strain for any age. We have evolved not to look at such small concentrated areas which is why humans get eye strain to being with.

Didn't you read the the first post in the thread? Thats where the OP got the information from in the first place.
However, you do proceed to make a good point. It's surprising that Samsung hasn't been bragging about this, which makes me believe this may not be true. Usually Anandtech is correct, would they make such a mistake? What exactly would give them this idea in the first place?

Was kind of weird though how Samsung spent all of about 1 second to mention PLS then immediately moved on to the next slide.
They mentioned it, but didn't talk about it, it's benefits (at the CTIA presentation), or anything. Seems so weird since this seems to be the best tablet display. Most tablets, like the Xoom aren't even using IPS displays and PLS sounds like it even one ups the IPS on the iPads. Seems like this would of been a selling point Samsung would have wanted to emphasis more.
I would also like to know if the 10.1v will have the PLS display

I think galaxy note is targeted for specific people.
Personally, I will not buy it, because:
1. it's not nexus (fear of being left behind in terms of updates+features)
2. Too big for my pocket
But I see that it has usefulness that I heard web browsing is so much better due to bigger screen. The bigger screen allows reading, watching and typing better.
About stylus, I think its a gimmick. Unless you have something like iPad size (which still limited that you have to write like you are using a crayon), writing in touch screen is cumbersome.

It's freaking huge. Have you ever held an iphone? Yeah, I'm comparing apples to oranges, but the phone is huge.
The Dell Streak, compared to this, is longer and thicker, but the Note is wider. There are some videos up on YouTube with people putting the Note in their pocket and making calls and it's really not that big. Heck most cordless landline phones are bulkier than the Note.
Also if it gets ICS with the new version of TW that is less inttusive , that would be awesome.
I put a comparison pic of the note and the gnexus and an article up in the rumor thread. Ill find it.

But yeah, I really want the Note.
AT&T has had the note for over a month. Used it for 2 weeks...it was OK. Barely fits in the back pocket and made my Epic feel like a toy. AT&T Hspa 4G is the biggest crap going but once LTE is spread out more it may be useable. The CDMA version will be called The Journal and rumored to go to Verizon and maybe Sprint.

My friend has taken my vibrant and thrown it at a wall of from atleast 10 ft. away nothing but a scratch on the bezel.
Then he put his iPhone 4S 2 ft away from a wooden desk (school) and literally just PUT it down and the back cracked at the top, internal only though.
these Android phones are tough as hell.
Most bullet proof plates to stop rifle rounds are made of ceramic.

Diamonds are not the "hardest" material, in the way of the most difficult material to break, diamonds are actually the hardest material to scratch, they are actually very easy to break with a hammer or maybe dropping them to the floor. But yeah I get your point, samsung is just the new nokia XD.

I went to the store and compared my note 1 to a note 2 - nothing great about the note 2 at all. Really no more real estate just slightly taller - so worthless to me - than even lesser resolution. So I will wait. Glad they announced this because bigger really does help me - as a prof / researcher / grad chair on a multi campus university - I can do so much with the Note. A little bigger is even better. Best thing about announcing the Note 3 - vaporware or not - is I do not have to keep thinking about getting the Note 2. I have a reason to be happy with my Note 1 and wait. Peace of mine.
for me it really depends.
if it's nearly as large as the nexus 7, then no. I won't buy it. if it's only a little larger than the current note 1/2 and the bezel is tiny. then I might consider it.

nope.
they are just assumptions.
note 3 will probably come out in september and there are 3 full months, samsung can change anything in that time.
the current assumptions are as follows-
5.99" screen probably 2xxx by 1xxx resolution
13mp camera
octa-core @ 2ghz or snap dragon 800 and @ 2+ ghz
3 gigs of ram.
that's all that has been most rumoured yet
What about the battery ? 4000mah?
Im hoping for snapdragon 800 @2.3ghz

It's only worth considering if it comes with 32GB internal storage as standard.

I was thinking of keeping the Note 2 for a while but this is a game changer.

Don't know mate, but to me it's not a huge upgrade! I mean if you look back, Note to Note 2 had 100% upgrade, so in that sense Note 3 should have 4 GB RAM.
Anyway, I'm quite happy with 2 GB so far, haven't seen any apps get closed or anything, yet.

I really hope it does come with the snap dragon 800

The most interesting rumor I read was that of a 3x optical zoom on the camera. Don't forget, the note 2 was supposed to have a 13 mp camera originally but they couldn't get a good enough supply so stepped it down to match the s2's camera.
3 GB RAM is nice - but not particularly important for me. But what really intrigues me is the battery - hope they pack 4000mah battery now, that'd make me seriously tempted And since it's FHD it's likely to be pentile.
What really worries me though, is the thinner bezels making the OLED more prone to cracking - I mean I never thought anyone would report S4 having cracked OLEDs by just keeping it in pockets - having gorilla glass and all that. I really suspect this is due to thinner bezels.
5.99 is a real mistake. ...i am glad because that way i wont spend money

I skipped s4 because I already have monster note 2 in my hands. I am very ery happy with it, now I am very much excited for note 3. I really believe that Samsung will bring their A+ device for note 3.

Although 5.99 screen but if they maintain the phone dimension, then its not a real mistake to me
