I've been looking for a widget (or widgets) that will give me the same kind of information that the status bar provides (battery, signal, Wi-Fi, 3G, 4G, Bluetooth). I've been able to find widgets that show me signal quality and battery status as well as some that contrable to find widgets that show me signal quality and battery status as well as some that control the others but don't show anything about their status. So the question right now is are there any widgets that show this information? The reason I'm asking is because I would like to be able to turn off the status bar but withoutis because I would like to be able to turn off the status bar but without losing access to all of this information.
Thanks

Widgetsoid is what I been looking for. Thanks op for posing the question and thanks to those that answered. Is there no 4G troggle widget for the epic 4G? Why are the all for the evo?
Statusbar+ is nice but to get full use and customobility you need the paid version :/

Thanks for the replies so far. Widgetsoid is definitely part of the solution thanks to its wi-fi and network signal indicators. Unfortunatly, its missing 4G status, 3G status, and Bluetooth status. All three of these are must haves for me... the first because a simple indication that 4G is running without an indication of signal strength or connectivity isn't worth the space it takes up, and the second two because my phone has a tendency to lock those up from time to time. Bluetooth disconnects without me directing it to do so and refuses to reconnect without turning it off and then back on and the 3G sometimes freezes with one or both of the streams on and won't work again unless I turn airplane mode on and then off again. As you might expect, I can't fix either of these issues unless I know they are going on, and without proper status information on them in a widget, I could find myself turning the status bar on and off constantly, which would totally defeat the purpose of all of this.
As far as Statusbar+, the point of all of this is to be able to get all of the information that the status bar provides in widget form so that I can turn off the status bar and have a clean home screen without having to turn it back on constantly.

Are you using a rooted phone? if so what rom and what else have you added to it. Plus, if this is the issue, uninstall and use HTC sense, if it sill does it. then maybe your hitting the button?
do you have the 4g switch on your homepage? i heard that can cause problems when launcherpro crashes and reloads your 4g will be on. something worth looking at.
If you're using the non HTC 4g widget that was floating around, one of the bugs it has is it always starts off as "ON" when you boot...
It happened to me that the GPS turned on automatically, and I didn't open maps or anything, draining my battery. So when it starts doing this funcky stuff, just reboot.
I was rooted but now I'm not so I am back to stock. I did install the custom widget that was posted on this forum but no longer have it installed as I am using the one from Switch Pro now. I uninstalled the other one.
I had the same problem after installing the new SwitchPro Widgets. I resolved it by turning off the 4g Network notification. Settings>Wireless&Networks>4g Settings>Network Notification.
But doesn't that just turn off the notification? I don't want the radio coming on when I don't need it.
Turning off the notification caused the 4g to not auto enable, for me. I can't say why, just that it worked. I never saw the auto enable issue prior to installing SwitchPro Widgets, which I think are great by the way, so I'm not bashing the product.
I will give that a shot.
Thanks.
You're not alone
Was having the same problem with SwitchPro for my rooted incredible (also not 4g but 3g). I think it had something to do with how this and maybe other apps poll/access the settings for mobile network. Uninstalled switchpro and all is better.
its too bad i love the interface of switchpro
I had the same issue. I turn off 4G notification and everything is good now.
I use Switchpro.
Thanks, I didn't know what was turning on my 4G by itself, but now I know SwitchPro is the culprit.

That doesn't work. I don't even have the notification turned on and it still does it. It's because of SwitchPro as it never turned on automatically until I installed it.

Happened to me too, but he's somewhat right.
I had 4G Network notification turned off when I installed SwitchPro, but my 4G was automatically turning on also, especially after reboots.
So here's what I did to fix it.
Turn on 4G
Turn on Network notification
Turn off Network notification
Turn off 4G
Still have SwitchPro installed and 4G toggle on my widget, but 4G hasn't turned on automatically since...

Well this turn on/off notification kinda work but only for a while...
If you do the trick, 4G won't tun on automatically anymore. But if you manually turn on 4G and then turn off and reboot your phone (actually you don't need to reboot, a flight mode is enough to show the effect), 4G will be turned on automatically again...
Again, non of the 3rd party switches figured out how exactly this 4G switch work.

This is also how i did it.
So my searches on this have turned up nothing similar. Forgive me if this has been covered somewhere.
Device: Epic 4g running Syndicate 1.02 Standard
Problem: GPS won't even turn on now.
Background: GPS was working normally (albeit badly, as we all know) until yesterday. Was able to toggle on and off.
Now: Toggle switch in pull-down lights up as if activating GPS but no familiar toggle sound. Wifi, BT, and 4g toggles still functioning and making the sound. When I go to Location Settings to activate, still no GPS. Toggle switch does light up if GPS activated from settings.
What I've tried: Not having any idea what could have caused this, I figured I'd just make a Titanium backup and use Odin to go back to DI18 using whosdaman's .tar. That should do the trick, right? WRONG! So then I figured, ok let's just go back to square 1 and used Odin to go back to DG27, same as the day I bought it. Still nothing!!!
Did I somehow truly brick the GPS?
Thanks in advance for any help with this.

AFAIK there never has been an audible confirmation at the notification bar when the GPS radio is toggled on or off. That's certainly the way my stock Epic running DI18 works.
What makes you think the GPS radio is not working? Have you tried a utility such as GPS Test? Very likely your GPS radio is functioning, and you are just being bitten by the failure-to-lock GPS bug that afflicts all Epics over time when the GPS cache data gets hosed.

I'm not even getting the "looking for lock" icon in the notification bar. Nothing happens at all. I'll try downloading a GPS Test though, didn't think about that thanks.

That pulsating icon only appears when some app actually starts the GPS. Just enabling the GPS toggle does not start it.
Wow I feel dumb. See I was using the google maps widget yesterday and was driving to a friends house and it wasn't using my gps location even with GPS turned on. Was only using the network.
I got so focused on getting "no response" from enabling and disabling the GPS that I failed to realize that the google map widget may not actually use GPS! It didn't occur to my retardedness to try using an app that I KNEW used GPS!!!!
Thanks boomer for helping me pull my head out of my arse!
Hello! I've been searching for answers on this but couldn't find anything. I'm on Verizon for reference.
Is there any way to remove the enormous amount of stuff from the status bar? Right now I have a battery icon, the battery percentage, the signal, what speed I'm connected at, some "N" looking symbol, a vibrate icon, a GPS icon (even though GPS is off), and the time.
I want to remove it down to battery percentage, time, and my connection speed. Is there any way to do this without installing a custom status bar? If not, which custom status bar is best?
Thanks!

Nope, not possible without rooting and using a custom one. The "N" is for NFC. If you turn it off, it'll go away. However, it's stupid that there's an icon for that since stock android doesn't have one.
I use the AT&T version with: no carrier label, black status bar, no volume slider, no brightness slider, and stock android buttons (back, Home, Recents). Check the Verizon development forum or perhaps the Apps/Themes sub forum.
Awesome thanks! I am already rooted and waiting for some amazing new ROMs. Are there any custom bars you would suggest?

So I the only thread I found on this was really old with no resolution so I'm starting a new one.
My gps will show like 0/24 on gps status immediately and not fix any. Earlier I got 2 satellites to fix ad that was all. This is outside in my car with a clear view of the sky. has anyone had any luck fixing gps issues?

Are you using the GPS Status app (developer MobiWIA)? I ask since that app allows you to add all the extra details in the notification bar while the GPS is searching for a lock. If so, have you tried getting a GPS lock in any other app (like Maps)? I can get a lock in all my other apps, as well as other GPS diagnostic app EXCEPT for the one developed by MobiWIA for some reason. I keep it installed though as I like to see the status in the notification bar.
I'd suggest downloading the GPS Status app if you already don't have it (the MobiWIA one), and go into Menu > Tools and click on Manage A-GPS State. Then click on Clear Cached GPS Data. Then click on the button that says Download Additional Files (well, says something similar to that). Then open up a different app and see if you can get a lock. I had to clear my GPS data and download those additional files before I could get a timely lock as well, but now I get a lock within 10 seconds while inside the house. This assumes that you haven't rooted tour phone. If you're rooted, you can do all this (and more) manually. Just clear GPS Cache and Data, and open up /system/etc/gps.conf to add any additional servers to the list, as well as tweak other GPS setting.
ya i tried those before, it's acting even dumber now, the top bad with the gps icon is solid indicating a lock. However any gps status app that I use will show no satellites locked. I get it to lock a couple after sitting there for a while on gps status sometimes though but its really shady
My past g2 did that, I returned it. Got a replacement, afraid to even root this beast.

so after you replaced it the problem was solved?
Same issue. The GPS on this phone sucks. It'll be 4 miles off sometimes and that's even if I can get it to lock.

Looks like the Verizon G2's GPS reception was compromised with the addition of wireless charging. T-mobile D801 here and I get a lock within a few seconds indoors.

Nope, still as ****ty as ever.
Although it doesn't happen as often, it still more often than others.
I'm past the remorse period.
So yeah.
Here's one from yesterday where I needed to get directions while driving, it locked but didn't do jack ****.

Well I guess atleast that means it most likely isn't completely hardware related.
Mine (T-Mobile) locks in just a few seconds, even indoors!
I always have data on, so it makes the process even faster (A-GPS makes use of the cellular antennas to acquire a lock faster). It works really well actually. I have at times the GPS off and even then, my location gets pin-pointed very quickly!
Cheers!
I have the GPS lock issue sometimes. What I have found to work for me is I turn airplane mode on let it sit for a second, then turn airplane mode off. By the time airplane mode is off and BT, LTE/CMDA signal notification are coming back to life my GPS has a lock and is working like it should.
YMMV on this, but it does work for me.
has anyone gotten this? I have GPS off, but the finding location notification and reticle comes up and just never goes away since GPS is obviously off. how can I figure out which app is doing this? it just started, but i haven't installed any new apps lately...

u could install a firewall app where u can enable every app by its own. first shut all apps off, than on one by one to find out which makes this. this is what i would do. yes the app is not for GPS, but mostly when an app starts trying to find out ur location than it wants to deliver the data somewhere. so it could work like this. i have "android firewall" from the play store. its the icon with the blue shield an an android logo on it.
@jayochs GPS toggle switch actually leaves wifi and mobile network location on(Google). Just drops hardware/verizon* GPS. You can long press toggle to check. Not sure if this is your problem, but I found this odd testing and just making sure you are aware. I don't get GPS pops when completely off, I do when I toggle the switch.
