4G Turns on Automatically - EVO 4G General

I am using LauncherPro and my 4G radio seems to turn on by itself automatically a few times a day. Is anyone else having this issue?

Are you using a rooted phone? if so what rom and what else have you added to it. Plus, if this is the issue, uninstall and use HTC sense, if it sill does it. then maybe your hitting the button?

do you have the 4g switch on your homepage? i heard that can cause problems when launcherpro crashes and reloads your 4g will be on. something worth looking at.

If you're using the non HTC 4g widget that was floating around, one of the bugs it has is it always starts off as "ON" when you boot...

It happened to me that the GPS turned on automatically, and I didn't open maps or anything, draining my battery. So when it starts doing this funcky stuff, just reboot.

I was rooted but now I'm not so I am back to stock. I did install the custom widget that was posted on this forum but no longer have it installed as I am using the one from Switch Pro now. I uninstalled the other one.

I had the same problem after installing the new SwitchPro Widgets. I resolved it by turning off the 4g Network notification. Settings>Wireless&Networks>4g Settings>Network Notification.

But doesn't that just turn off the notification? I don't want the radio coming on when I don't need it.

Turning off the notification caused the 4g to not auto enable, for me. I can't say why, just that it worked. I never saw the auto enable issue prior to installing SwitchPro Widgets, which I think are great by the way, so I'm not bashing the product.

I will give that a shot.
Thanks.

You're not alone
Was having the same problem with SwitchPro for my rooted incredible (also not 4g but 3g). I think it had something to do with how this and maybe other apps poll/access the settings for mobile network. Uninstalled switchpro and all is better.
its too bad i love the interface of switchpro

I had the same issue. I turn off 4G notification and everything is good now.
I use Switchpro.

Thanks, I didn't know what was turning on my 4G by itself, but now I know SwitchPro is the culprit.

That doesn't work. I don't even have the notification turned on and it still does it. It's because of SwitchPro as it never turned on automatically until I installed it.

Happened to me too, but he's somewhat right.
I had 4G Network notification turned off when I installed SwitchPro, but my 4G was automatically turning on also, especially after reboots.
So here's what I did to fix it.
Turn on 4G
Turn on Network notification
Turn off Network notification
Turn off 4G
Still have SwitchPro installed and 4G toggle on my widget, but 4G hasn't turned on automatically since...

Interesting... I'll try that.

Bump. Anyone have any success resolving this issue. Tried the above solutions with no luck.

Well this turn on/off notification kinda work but only for a while...
If you do the trick, 4G won't tun on automatically anymore. But if you manually turn on 4G and then turn off and reboot your phone (actually you don't need to reboot, a flight mode is enough to show the effect), 4G will be turned on automatically again...
Again, non of the 3rd party switches figured out how exactly this 4G switch work.

(SOLVED, DUH!) What happened to my GPS?

So my searches on this have turned up nothing similar. Forgive me if this has been covered somewhere.
Device: Epic 4g running Syndicate 1.02 Standard
Problem: GPS won't even turn on now.
Background: GPS was working normally (albeit badly, as we all know) until yesterday. Was able to toggle on and off.
Now: Toggle switch in pull-down lights up as if activating GPS but no familiar toggle sound. Wifi, BT, and 4g toggles still functioning and making the sound. When I go to Location Settings to activate, still no GPS. Toggle switch does light up if GPS activated from settings.
What I've tried: Not having any idea what could have caused this, I figured I'd just make a Titanium backup and use Odin to go back to DI18 using whosdaman's .tar. That should do the trick, right? WRONG! So then I figured, ok let's just go back to square 1 and used Odin to go back to DG27, same as the day I bought it. Still nothing!!!
Did I somehow truly brick the GPS?
Thanks in advance for any help with this.

AFAIK there never has been an audible confirmation at the notification bar when the GPS radio is toggled on or off. That's certainly the way my stock Epic running DI18 works.
What makes you think the GPS radio is not working? Have you tried a utility such as GPS Test? Very likely your GPS radio is functioning, and you are just being bitten by the failure-to-lock GPS bug that afflicts all Epics over time when the GPS cache data gets hosed.

Ok, well I guess I didn't notice it specifically. At least I know that is normal now.

I'm not even getting the "looking for lock" icon in the notification bar. Nothing happens at all. I'll try downloading a GPS Test though, didn't think about that thanks.

That pulsating icon only appears when some app actually starts the GPS. Just enabling the GPS toggle does not start it.
Wow I feel dumb. See I was using the google maps widget yesterday and was driving to a friends house and it wasn't using my gps location even with GPS turned on. Was only using the network.
I got so focused on getting "no response" from enabling and disabling the GPS that I failed to realize that the google map widget may not actually use GPS! It didn't occur to my retardedness to try using an app that I KNEW used GPS!!!!
Thanks boomer for helping me pull my head out of my arse!

You don't need the 4g toggle widget on. Even if it is off it will auto turn back on after a reboot.
I know, and it kills the battery how do I fix it? It keeps scanning

See first post.
Use the Wireless settings menu to enable and disable 4G. That will keep it from restarting after reboots.
How often do you reboot anyway? I'd certainly like to see a fix, but I don't have any problem just remembering to turn it off after a reboot if I don't want it on. It's a small price to pay to have more convenient access to 4G toggling (right in the notification screen, as well as in Quick Settings).

The issue isn't just remembering to turn it off, there's another issue here. The evo doesn't turn off 4g correctly. Test it yourself. Turn off 4g, then wait a while, and check an alogcat log. You'll see that it still tries to connect and scan for 4g every few minutes, only to end up erroring out (because 4g was turned "off"). This is a potential battery drainer also.

Trouble with Juice Defender and Cyanogenmod

Ever since I got Cyanogenmod 7 working on my phone, I've had a lot of trouble getting my 3g to toggle back on after turning my screen on. I'm using JD for the toggle so is it a Juice Defender problem or a modem problem?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
I have the same problem, I just switch to airplane mode and back and it fixes it. It only happens periodically, it works as it should more often then not. I attribute it to CM7 awesomeness. At least JD works, Green Power won't even try to manage the data connection.
Ah I wouldn't have thought to try that. Yeah I love this rom compared to stock so I'm more than willing to put up with a few gripes.

I have this same problem and run JD but it's not a JD problem. I would say it happens to me once or twice a day(usually when the phone is powered on for more than 6 hours without a reboot). A lot of people have this and toggling back and forth between airplane mode fixed the problem pretty damn easily.
If you want a quick way to do this go to
settings
cyanogenmod settings
interface
notification power widget
widget buttons
select airplane mode
Now you have airplane mode in your pull down bar and you can quickly enable it and disable it when this happens.
I have two problems relating to this. My 3g wont turn on automatically when someone sends me an MMS. Usually my stock ROM would turn the 3g on and download the MMS, but now I just receive a text message from a number rather than the name of the contact, and I need to press a Download button to download the picture/MMS. Then I have to turn on my 3G manually, then I have to press the Download button, and only then do I receive the picture/MMS.
Also, It has been happening quite often now. My 3G does not turn on, even when I turn it on manually so I have to reboot my phone an only then will it turn on.
Im using CM7 nightly, latest one up to date on HTC Desire HD.
Hope someone fixes this!

[Bug?] Wifi won't stay disabled.

So I've noticed this problem with my SGS3. When I drive into work, I turn off the wifi radio (or whatever the term is) before heading out. As I am driving down the road, the status bar will suddenly show the wifi network discovered icon, so I go into settings and see that Wifi has been enabled again. WTF.
Anyone else having this issue? I don't want my phone constantly scanning for wifi access points and turning on my wifi radio when I have specifically disabled it. Is this a known issue?

Yes, and I should have put that in the thread title. Thanks.

u could install a firewall app where u can enable every app by its own. first shut all apps off, than on one by one to find out which makes this. this is what i would do. yes the app is not for GPS, but mostly when an app starts trying to find out ur location than it wants to deliver the data somewhere. so it could work like this. i have "android firewall" from the play store. its the icon with the blue shield an an android logo on it.
@jayochs GPS toggle switch actually leaves wifi and mobile network location on(Google). Just drops hardware/verizon* GPS. You can long press toggle to check. Not sure if this is your problem, but I found this odd testing and just making sure you are aware. I don't get GPS pops when completely off, I do when I toggle the switch.
