7.006.01? - Acer Iconia A500

This is the OTA update correct? What type of changes does it make? Were the mods that use 3.2 using a version not designed for the Iconia? Does this version work better on the Iconia or is there no real difference in updating?

Please learn to search. All this has already been answered dozens of times.

I did search and didn't find anything. Guess I didn't look hard enough. I apologize.

How To

Here i will be posting all of the how to threads which are helpful to all users.
i will personally do all of the tutorials to make sure they work and i will also give support to best of my ability on all of the topics.
1. How to Root
2. Enable Exchange Active Sync
3. Enable AD-Hoc Support
4. Enable NTFS Support
5. USB 3G For A500 Wifi Only
Can I also suggest Enable Ad Hoc Wifi? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056188&page=2
NTFS Support
Thanks very handy tutorials.

can i also suggest a link to the how-to enable support for 3G USB modems?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1058846
Needs some additional work though especially around how to configure for a specific type/brand of modem.
Thanks
FINALLY a AdHoc that works, many thanks for the file and the instructions. I tried some of the others several times with no luck.
pretty cool thanks for making it easy to find the good work the devs are doing.
Thanks for the how to's
First off, let me say thanks to all you developers and all the hard work you put in.
I am a complete noob to Android, rooting, and custom ROMS. I bought the A500 to travel with to complete simple paperwork, internet, emails, and watch movies while in the plane. I travel a lot so this makes it more compact than my laptop.
I have been following dc13's ROM thread and have to admit I am quite interested. It seems he has managed to greatly improve the battery life which is very nice for me.
My question, any chance to get an A500 Noob section for the stuff we noobs are new to? I have tried reading various threads and write ups from searches but even though itvseems like rooting shares some similar techniques, there is a bit of device specific steps also. I am interested in being able to do simple things like remove apps, try out ROM's, and even do backups. Today I downloaded apps; Titanium Backup, ROM Manager, and Busy Box because it seems those come up a lot. After reading the warnings for BusyBox I decided not to mess with it. I did try to run a simple ROM backup today on ROM Manager and got the !triangle.
I have rooted, using the directions on here. I guess it worked, but when I went into settings and tried to delete Social Jogger using the file manager app, it said I did not have permission.
So as you guys can see, it would be nice to find device specific support for us boneheads who want a bit more freedom, without needing to know all you Devs know.
Any help would be great. I am just not sure which steps to take in which orders and also which apps are required to do what I would like to do.
PS: any idea if these A5's are able to get Swype?
Sorry so long. Thanks again for any and all help guys!
Thanks for this thread ...
I am still unrooted due to the fact that we have no easy way to revert back to stock ( revert to stock for dummies ) ... and the locked bootloader.
this is due to Acer making too many different versions of Build# and Kernel # for various countries of the world ...etc
Why can't we just have 2 versions like the Asus TF do ?? 1 for US region and 1 for WW region... sheesh !!
Could you please add a link to an easy way to restore to stock ( once that becomes available ? )

You have to mount the file system as rw... If you are using EStrong File explorer for example, you have to give it ROOT access before it can write to your /system files. Go to the settings and scroll down to the root portion. enable that... then go to the folder where you have the file you want to delete... and... delete it...
BE CAREFUL DELETING THINGS FROM YOUR /SYSTEM/APP FOLDER AS THIS HAS BEEN KNOWN TO BRICK THE DEVICE... Good hunting! jejeje

[Q] Recommend Rom for Iconia Newb

The title pretty much says it all.
More info: my second Android device (also had custom ROMs on my old Xperia), I'm pretty tech savvy but don't want to deal with a buggy Rom or one that has lots of non working features.
It must have mult-language capability. Improved battery life would be nice, as would safe over-clocking. I also bought a Galaxy Tab 10 - trying to decide which of the two to keep. The stock keyboard and notification widget area are much nicer on Galaxy.
Tablet will be used mainly for internet browsing, movie watching, reading, HTML/WordPress editing, etc.
Recommendations and advice appreciated.
Dont take update if tablet is new
first if your tab is new and not on 3.2 Dont take the update until you decide what to do..
I think all the roms are equally great.. the right one for you would depend on what your looking for.. I would read the threads in the development forum for each of the roms.. Battery life and OC Do not belong in same subject .
You also need to do some checking on your tablet.. as in what version of the rom you have on it.. if you are post 3.2 you will need to downgrade to change roms. There are a few different ways on how to do this. Again read threads on downgrading to root stock 3.2 and above.. lots of people have been posting information and questions regarding this.
Please read and get to know your tablet before you flash anything . remember to backup and backup then backup the backups.
Thanks for listening to my so called ranting .and good luck
erica renee
Personally, I still prefer stock ROM.

Thanks, Erica. I am on 3.2.1. Why do you recommend I diwngrade to 3.2?
I plan on staying on stock for at least several weeks, but just wanted to an idea about what was out there. Also, it looks like in order to get proper Hebrew support, I am going to have to root regardless.
I remember having a custom Rom on my Xperia that had an app to control the over clocking and underckocking and basically did so based on what was needed. So if one is only reading a book, for example, the app would under clock and result in better battery life. Conversly, it would over clock for graphic intensive programs.
Back-up a lot - got it!
im sorry dont mean to confuse you..
To do things like to root the tablet needed for things like adding ad-hoc tether network support as well as other customization you will have to root your tablet. when acer pushed the 3.2 update to the iconia they plugged the hole used to root the device. Its much harder if you have 3.2 or above .. if so you will have to fallow the downgrade procedure . then you can install a pre rooted 3.2 or above..
if you use your tablet and it works fine the way it is for you . DO NOT Change it ..
just use the tablet.. it works great STOCK FOR 99.9 PERCENT of people..
Sorry for the confusion.. I think anyone dont need root should STAY Stock and able to accept the updates . Just remember acer keeps plugging the holes.. when ics is released who knows what they will do to it.
good luck ..

[Q] Best way to get Kindle to show up as something else for Market apps?

Hello. I have had a Kindle fire since Jan of this year. It has been my first tablet/android device. I've had a great time playing with it, learning about rooting, bricking and unbricking thanx to this awesome forum and really want to express my gratitude for all the help provided by this site.
I am a medical student and I bought the device specifically for an app for my licensing exam. I feel like I have one last hurdle to overcome in understanding how to manipulate this device, that being a method of altering the way that the market apps recognizes the kindle. I have seen various mods that cause the device to show up differently.
My question is: what is the best mod to facilitate this and only this?
-I have everything as I like it so I prefer one that changes only this aspect.
Thanks a thousand times in advance.
Edit the build.prop file if you know how to, just change the model name to another device like the Galaxy Tab or something and you'll have a bunch more apps in the market.
Just use the modified build.prop from THIS thread and you will be all set.
thanks guys. I've read about build.prop. Gonna check out this link
I read through that link. It only supports CM7. I have had both CM7 and CM9 and prefer stock + go launcher. Do you know of any preset build.prop's that support stock?
edit: Obviously didnt read far enough, here it is: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1439916
I will test it out then update. Thanks again!
edit2: Modaco Gr6 is the mod to flash for those seeking to run stock vs. CM7/CM9. I got access to the file I needed and many other apps. I dont think i am seeing the entire android market though.

[Q&A][CM 10.1] Do you have problems with CyanogenMod 10.1? Read this first!

To the Moderators:
This is a try at lowering the rate of repeated questions in the CyanogenMod 10.1 official nightlies // discussion thread. I am aware that this thread would probably belong in the "Q&A" section, but I fear that it will get buried and forgotten there. I beg you to consider the idea of this thread and leave it in the "General" section.
Have you flashed a CyanogenMod 10.1 official nightly? Do you have questions and problems? This post is here to help you!
Please read the entirety of this post before asking questions in the CyanogenMod 10.1 official nightlies // discussion thread!
It is assumed that you have read the first post of the CM10.1 thread (called "the OP" in the following).
If you were not able to find your information by yourself, or would not have been able to without this thread, you should reconsider flashing a CM10.1 NIGHTLY.
I will not answer Questions in this thread.
I get a "status 7" message when flashing with CWM!
It seems you are running PhilZ Kernel or a derivative of it. This kernel seems to be broken and unable to flash. Flash Siyah, Dorimanx or any other Kernel via CWM or ODIN, boot to Recovery and try again.
My phone asks for a PIN or some other code which I don't have!
You have a SIM.Locked Phone which was unlocked via an exploit. Samsungs kernel-update fixes a few issues, including those exploits. Use GalaxSim Unlock to re-unlock your phone.
Youtube/Market/GMail crashes!
You need to flash the corresponding 4.2.1 GApps, currently 20121212.
The Clock app (or any other app) crashes!
Go to Settings -> Apps -> All -> Clock (or whatever it was) and delete it's data.
Are there any other kernels supporting CM10.1?
As far as I know, all Siyah-based Kernels should work. Remember that you are not supposed to post on the CyanogenMod 10.1 official nightlies // discussion thread when using a different kernel.
I have flashed [insert any kernel here], now my phone won't boot!
The kernel obviously does not support CM10.1/Android 4.2.1. Reflash the ROM to get the stock kernel back.
Where are the developer and performance options?
Google has hidden them. With good reason. You can render your phone unbootable if you use those incorrectly. To quote Codeworkx: "bricked devices, dead SD cards, thermonuclear war, or you getting fired because the alarm app failed."
If you apsolutely need to use them, tap Build Number until you are a developer (about 7 times).
I unlocked the Developer Options and tried to use "Simulate Screens". Now my screen is black and won't turn on again!
That is why one does not simply mess around with the dev options. Reboot your phone and press vol. down while it's booting. This will boot it to Secure Mode, where you can go and untick "Simulate Screens". Fixed.
I cannot find Photosphere! Will it be added?
No. Photosphere is not open source and therefore only available for Nexus devices.
Charging speed is very slow!
Due to hardware limitations, there are only three possible charging speeds, one of which is never used. The others are 450mA on USB and 650mA on the charger. Your phone is either draining power while being charged (media scanner?) or has a problem with the USB connector. Try cleaning it CAREFULLY or find the app responsable for the drain with BetterBetteryStats.
I want to disable the Lockscreen Widgets
Use Lockscreen Policy from the Play Store
The weather Icon of Chronus does not show on the lockscreen!
You can maximize widgets in the Lockscreen Settings. All your Lockscreen widgets will be maximized after turining the screen on. If you want to know why there's no better Option read this.
Sometimes I get freezes when scrolling through long lists!
I have never experienced this. People suggest that ticking "Force GPU Rendering" in Developer Options solves this. Other People suggest that forcing GPU rendering breaks other things, e.g. the keyboarld leaves a black space in WhatsApp. I have never experienced this, neither.
My Car Stereo/Handsfree/other Bluetooth device does not work correvtly!
All AOSP 4.2.1 ROMs including the Nexus 4 seem to have problems with Bluetooth, or more specifically A2DP. Rumour has it that it will be fixed in 4.2.2.
I get "Out of storage" messages and can no longer install Apps!
Viber and Lucky pacher are known to trigger this. Try to move them to your external SD card. If that doesn't do the trick, search /data/apps for .odex files and delete them.
I get tons of dumpstate_ril_RESET_BY_CP_SILENTRESET.log files at /data/log !
These are logs of RIL crashes. Do NOT use GetRIL to fix this. Use this instead. These zips flash modem, RIL and a few other related files. They are much more reliable than GetRIL. You can also try to Flash XXLS8 without RIL and hen reflash CM, it comes with XXLS8 RIL.
The rotation- and the acceleration sensor do not work anymore!
Deactivating tilt to scroll in Chrome should help.
Real Racing 3/Simpsons/other games crash after a very short time!
Blamesung. This is a problem with the current mali driver (mali is the graphics chip). Do not expect it to be fixed. There is a possibility to flash older drivers and fix the gaming issues (see siyah kernel), but that will bring the graphical glitches in the UI and keyboard back.
UPDATE: It seems to me that it's not the mali driver, but the audio HAL acting up. I have sudden loss of audio and a game crash a few seconds after, most prominently in World of Goo, and some people report that disabling all things audio via in-game controls fixes the crashing.
I still have a problem that was not discussed here!
Reflash the ROM and wipe cache and dalvik cache in Recovery. Reboot. Delete the data of the app that is misbehaving. Search the CyanogenMod 10.1 official nightlies // discussion thread to see if anyone has had this problem before you, and if there is a fix. If all of this fails, ask in that thread and someone will hopefully try to help you.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
I have moved on to a Sony Xperia Z. I will not trouble myself with keeping myself, the OP or the thread up to date. If you have very common problems and a solution, PM me and I'll update the OP. If you want to take over the management of this thread, PM me and we'll find a solution.
Happy flashing and bye!
this thread s completely useless... when we have a discussion thread and one development thread in original forum what was the necessity of this'd thread.. does q & a or discussion means different? think before starting a new thread..
I have been considering CM10.1 and aren't too bothered about some of the bugs but the GPS one does concern me. I use my phone as my everyday satnav, does this GPS bug mean that the navigation app is currently useless on CM10.1?

True, All of the above answers are completely useless, because they have been answered countless times alerady. But still people ask them, sometimes the same question twice in the same thread page. But instead of flaming the questioners, yelling at them, i try to answer them in one, easy to find place. It is an experiment to see if maybe the original thread gets cleaner with this, and more efficient at solving the real problems as well as discussing issues and solutions. In my oppinion, telling people to tap the build number 7 times does not count as discussion...

How to get Root access of ADB on this CM 10.1 version?
How to get Root access of ADB on this CM 10.1 version?
On earlier CM version 10 there was "Developer options" in settings were I could simply change that, in "Root access" section.
My problem is that i get this: (shell has been denied superuser permissions) on my Samsung galaxy tab2 7.0 when trying to install app's wirelessly from my computer using "APK Batch Installer" that I found on the internet, ow and on the tab I use adbWireless app.
Typing "su" in terminal emulator and getting access to it doesn't work.
I am trying to solve this for few days and I just now found out that on CM 10 version everything would work if i would get ADB access, so I ended here asking for help. :fingers-crossed:
P.S. Sorry.. Writing this i didn't notice that this treat is for specifically one phone, that's because I googled this But any help would be appreciated.

Maybe you could ask the mods or TS in this thread to merge, add or link your OP.
It'll help that thread by just pointing queries to the OP.
Good job collecting those info btw.

[Q] CF-Auto-Root with Android 4.0.4 (ICS) for GT-P3110

Welcome to XDA. Yes Android version does matter. The root exploits are different. I cannot answer your specific question, however there are several threads dedicated to rooting the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2. Please use the search feature before creating new threads.
NOTE:
Making multiple post in several threads asking the same question will not get you the results you are seeking. There are times when it will take a few minutes or even a few hours before someone can answer your question. In fact, that's why I'm responding now, because of your double posts. This site has a very handy search feature which is quite capable of helping you to locate whatever information you desire.
