If you're restoring with titanium backup try to only restore app and not app+data. The data part might conflict with the new FW as it's a higher build number.
Don't think it has anything to do with the posted .ftf file nor the method in updating.

I'm restoring using my backup root. Damnit.. I have so much data: (

If you're restoring data from a nandroid i would then flash the doomlord kernel that matches the FW build on the nandroid. Then i would restore the nandroid and then download titanium backup and do a back up with that. Then upgrade to the state where you are now and use the TB to restore apps without data
Regards Dousan...
e: Just reread your post and saw that I missed the app you are using to restore. In that case it would be helpfull if you had a recent nandroid. Afaik My backup root can only restore one way and that's app+data at once and nothing else.
e2: You could do the above, flash kernel and firmware that matches your backup from my backup root. When flashed then restore the backup from my backup root and then download TB and do a backup with that. Then return to current state you have at the moment and restore with TB using only app option when doing so.
So I don't get any data -_-?
Edit, wrong, myroot does it threeway

Yes without data or atleast do one at a time to check if it FC's.
Edited my post above.

So I don't get any data back? I have both tb and myroot. I use my root because I don't have tbpro to restore all at once
No data? Boooo...

Hey there is no data conflict, that's for sure.
I flashed the ftf file with the "Wipe user data" option UNCHECKED. All my apps, data, contacts, messages remained as they were without any single conflict or FC anywhere.
Besides, I restored many apps via Titanium now and then. They worked fine.
-------
Maybe it's a problem with MyBackup root. try mybackup Pro.
OK I restored some data, and it worked fine
Strange...
I may not wipe user data next time....

I've used TB alot and have now and then encountered FC'ing when restoring both app+data when jumping build numbers in FW/custom roms.
Games from gameloft just acts weird at some points when restoring from TB with data aswell.
It still could be a data conflict as i've seen people upgrading the same custom roms on the same phones and some get that FC'ing when they don't wipe data and some don't and some get's it when restoring with app+data and then some don't. So it might still be worth restoring one at a time to see wich has a conflict.
Regards Dousan...
Am thinking of not wiping data and return to 233 and restore my vadass apps and data!

You mean we can flash the 2.3.4 ftf file even w/uncheck wipe user data, and all those apps will still work perfectly? Hmmm, seems like I will get this 2.3.4 now.. The reason why I don't flash is because of the restoring problem also, the last time I did that, it took me 3-4 days to download all data files again.. Maybe nextime I will just do a backup of the apk using mybackup root and I will just backup my sdcard files to my PC..
But oh, I will lose root since my BL is still locked, I will not be able to flash the rootxperia.. Maybe I'll just wait for OTA then.. Tsk..

If I do an advanced nandroid restore, which option will restore text messages? Somehow, my TiBackup isn't restoring messages.
I think it would be user data try that out and se where it gets you but itwill restore all apps you had too and it could make you have tons of force closes if the rom your running doesn't like somethin

Haha when i read this i thought to myself "yeah thats not it, ive surely reboted a few times just in the process of having a new rom flashed and trying things out, but ill try anyway. "
And of course, that fixed it. Reboot did it. My girl says thanks, she now has the first text i ever sent her back on her phone. Awwwwww

Hi guys! I've recently started flashing roms and I'm fairly new to Android. Right now I'm running CM7 nightlies #13. I did a nandroid backup from #9 through recovery before I flashed #13. I then changed the file name in root explorer so I would know which version that was. That somehow messed up the md5 sum of that backup. Then I did the stupid thing of reinstalling Gapps, so I had to wipe everything. I did do a backup of #13 first, didn't change the file name and it works, so I still had my messages there.
So after all that, I re-flashed #13 after a full wipe. Now my question is, is it possible to restore all my sms from my nandroid backup file and just push it to wherever it needs to go without messing my sms up? I found this thread in general q&a http://forum.xda-developers.com/sho...hlight=restore+messages+nandroid#post10355310
It's kinda answers my question but it also messed up his mms, and nobody replied. I was hoping someone over here can help.
If its not possible, will Titanium Backup work? which app do I have to backup in order to restore all my messages? I can still restore my nandroid, backup my messages then re-flash 13 again, but it's just a pain to set it all up again.
Thanks for reading my long-ass post.

Thanks. I assume that this app is on the market?
Anyway, I do have most everything backed up in a nandroid and in TB, but I'm looking for a way to recover just my text messages. I can always revert back, but i'm looking for a way to restore the messages without actually having to... if that is possible.
Both app would do the job

Hey people,
Yea, I just flashed a new ROM and I couldnt remember the apps I used to have. Is there any way I could find out and recover the game saves?
Thanks.

If you downloaded them thru Market then you can goto http://market.android.com and you'll see a list under my account. If you used a non-wipe ROM the data will still be there and unless the apps don't wipe the data themselves you'll be able to access it.
It's a full wipe ROM, I do have a CWM backup. Is there anything I could do with it?

What game is it? Many save game data on the sdcard which isn't included on cwm backups so either you will still have the savedata on your sdcard or it's already gone forever.. otherwise use wunyaffs to unpack your nandroid backup and search through it
I installed the game and it at first stages.
So, I've restored the backup and hope to use titanium backup to backup the games and apps.
Then, flash LeoMar's ROM and then restore through titanium backup.
Is there anything wrong that I could be possibly doing?

My N4 is on the way after the price drop and i was wondering.. can i do a titanium app backup on my gnex and then restore on the N4?
with no issues (i will be installing paranoid android on it also)
I was just wondering this same thing. I've got a Nexus 7 'flo' waiting for me at home, waiting to be opened, which brought this question to my attention this afternoon. I figured I'd just try it and see what happened, what could go wrong? I assume it'd be fine anyway, I can't think of why it wouldn't be, but maybe wait for someone else who knows more about it to answer, or heck, wait until tomorrow and I'll let you know if it worked for me.
You can indeed try it and see whay happends but I don't think it's a good idea. Alot of roms recommend you NOT to restore your data with Titanium when switching roms while you not only switch roms, but a whole other phone.
You can still try it though, just to be sure make a nandroid backup first.

Oh i never restore apps and data, just apps... would that cause issues?
i restored my gnex titanium backup on my n4 and n7, apps only, no issues. before that, i restored my titanium backup from my nexus s to my gnex
You could also do an adb b/u.
When I migrated from the GN to the N4 I did this:
Code:
adb backup -all -nosystem -shared -apk
It will b/u your sd card contents as well and adb can restore MOST apps. There are some however that have to be installed before they can be restored, but this will also copy your TiBU folder (-shared) tag, so...

Worst that could happen if restoring data that won't work or is corrupt would be some force closes I think so not really serious issues but irritating issues.

if you do get fc's from an app for restoring a titanium backup, go to the phones main settings, apps, then find that app and clear its data. it always fixes those fc's.
Yeah, I did a Titanium back up and restore from the Galaxy Nexus to the Nexus 4 a long time ago. Didn't have any problems. Just make sure to only restore app data and not system data.

Hi there, I'm new to the Galaxy S5 forum and don't actually own the device itself yet, but I'm planning on getting it in a few months so here goes my ? :
Since I've got around 300 apps on my current phone, I don't wanna download and update each apps's settings all over again when I get my new S5 and I was wondering if doing a nandroid backup of my S3 Mini containing just the "data" partition and restoring it on the S5 will work and all of my apps will be copied over with all of their settings untouched, BUT I also won't lose any of the preinstalled apps on the S5 itself?
Or maybe I can try this app and make flashable zips of my apps and then flash them on the GS5?
This has always been the main trouble I have had when switching phones before, though I never switched from Android to Android. Hope someone can shed some light on my question and make me buy the S5 sooner Good night all!!
P.S. I DON'T CARE ABOUT KNOX AND SUCH CRAP. THE FIRST DAY I GET MY PHONE IT'S GONNA BE ROOTED AND WITH TWRP INSTALLED.

I have used titanium backup pro for 5 years and even more phones. I have never had a problem with any of the backups or restores.

+1 for Titanium backup.
Other method, google for nandroid manager (need root so).
Just copy your (previous) recovery backup on phone, and restore via nandroid manager all that you want.
Be aware of system apps not to restore of course.
Good luck

Won't this actually work just by hitting restore in TWRP and choosing only the "data" part of my backup (why an app)? Or maybe TWRP won't recognise my S3 Mini backup, because it's from another phone?

No, I don't think so.
AFAIK, restoring data will restore all data without restrictions, and it could be bad if you come from another phone or ROM.
With nandroid manager, you can choose what you want to restore (app or app+data) for user app or system app, for every app you want.
You have to copy your last backup from old phone to new one, choose it by nandroid manager then navigate for options of restore.
You can restore bluetooth-wifi pairings, sms, mms, call logs, and apps (app or app+data).
Google for a tuto on "how to", here's an exemple http://www.informationlord.com/how-to-restore-nandroid-backup-without-cwm/.
Good luck

I think that choosing Advanced Restore in TWRP settings gets you to this window and then you choose what to restore. It's the same with backing up, you choose backup and then select with "x" the partitions you wanna backup. I just didn't know if restoring just "data" will break my phone, but now I know it won't, because when the phone is new there aren't going to be any apps installed in the "data" partition (all are pre-installed in "system"). So I'll just have to go to TWRP, choose advanced restore and only select "data" with "x", then swipe to restore. If something goes wrong I can always go back to recovery and wipe "data" (I'll still have all of my system apps) or even flash a stock ROM with Odin

My S5 arrives next week I'm gonna use this app, because I don't want to restore all of my apps (gonna flash Alliance 5.6 so.. xD). Will report if it works, as promised
A word of caution.......
Your new S5 will be preinstalled with KK.
If your old phone has a different version of Android, be VERY cautious about installing app data.....There is a very good chance that doing so will cause instability and force closes of your apps.......
Restoring the apps themselves this way shouldn't cause any issue......you'll just see a message that says something like "android is upgrading.......1 of xx apps" before your phone starts.....but as I said, data *may* prove to be a whole other issue.......
