Original i9000 I loved how you took care of me for the past few months. But now I have a new love ... the i9100. Ever since I had her in my hands I forgot all about you ...
But now that I look at you as I am prepping to sell you, I would like to say good bye Samsung i9000.

What happens to us regular folk who don't buy a new phone every year?
answer: We thrive in our galaxy and travel to the EVEN bigger one (III) after another cycle has passed!
Damn nice, its not available here yet
I ordered a SGS2, sold my SGS1 to someone at work but my SGS2 was delayed (unit shortages) and I am now stuck with an old Motorola flip phone =/
how do you guys even afford to buy a new phone every half a year
I'll wait for the next Google phone. No more touchwiz crap for me, thanks. No more begging for updates.
Also, while it's clearly a better phone, the differences are too small. ppi density was poor already, now with the bigger screen they should have gone for 540 x 960, like the Sensation.

Really clever guy would have sold SGS 1 just before SGS launch £250 .
Bought O2 PAYG and if it was as many are unlocked sold on Ebay £500 .
Buy PAYG O2 £399 net transfer cost £49 .
If i had thought about it i would have bought more than one O2 for onward sale .
SGS2 has a flashing counter on boot screen better stick with SGS 1
jje
i just got my brand new sgs a couple of weeks ago, after selling my old htc legend, so i'll stick with it for at least one year from now... after i'll master the tehnic of rooting it and all the customizing stuff, maybe then i'll consider upgrading to the new sgs2, but right now i consider it useless for me
only thing i miss from my legend is the sense ui, definetly much more user friendly than the touchwiz stuff, this is the main reason i consider rooting my sgs, i'll just wait for a stable release of sense ui for the sgs and then i'll be completly sattisfied with this awesome phone
heads off to SGS 2 thread tho. no need to make everyone jealous

It is too bad that many of the good devs are jumping ship before we get mature Gingerbread releases and mods.
In a way despite all the whinging we see on here about Samsung they are supporting the device for longer than most of the XDA devs.
The doomsayers were saying Samsung would bail on SGS 2.3 given the SGS2, when in fact it was XDA devs that bailed fast upon SGS2 release. Not that they don't have the right and I appreciate the work they did while they were here.
Lol SGS3 comes out late this year... What will people do who just upgraded to SGS2?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
I jut upgraded to 2.3.3 a coupla weeks ago, and I'm content to stay with a 90% cutting edge phone that still outperforms my old iOS Applecrap. It's kinda like having an E46 M3 (last version) versus the the new one. A few performance mods and you're just as good as the stock new one, and most non-gearheads wouldn't notice or care anyway. They'll just be impressed with the notion you own a fast Bimmer.
The money in my case would be better spent on a Honeycomb tablet as a companion to the SGS. Ones like the Asus Transformer look promising in terms of price, performance and battery life over the Asus G50VT laptop I'm typing this on.
I'm not begrudging anyone heading to the next level. Hell, Ill even admit jealousy. It's just that we bought 2 of these since the summer of last year and the shine hasn't worn of just yet, especially since moving to GB. And by the Christmas season, somebody will have raised the bar again. But I'll be still thinking that these are really just phone with a computer along for the ride. And I never upgraded my computers this fast. And stir in that the combined monthly bill is nearly $200 over the initial cost of the damn things. Yup, I'll wait.

What do you mean by this?
Wrong forum for posting about the sgs2 i think...
But since its here, I dont see the point to buy a sgs2 right now unless youre a developer. In the other case it just means having to go back to stock roms and miss out on all the awesome developments that were made for the SGS.
Id rather wait to jump ships until such developments are being made on SGS2 aswell.
I wanted to know if I should buy the unit unlocked now or wait till it comes out in America with AT&T?
If I wait for the AT&T version, though, it will likely come barraged with bloatware and features will be locked like tethering. I believe that rooting the Note will allow tethering and removal of the bloatware but I'm not sure. I am eligible for the 2 year discount if I get the Note with AT&T but how long will I have to wait?
I currently have the Dell Streak with a 5" screen and Rooted with a Streak-Droid custom ROM and all the bells and whistles included but this new G-Note is making me very happy! I gotta have one!
What do I do? $700 now with no Bloatware and tether ready or wait for AT&T to put there crap in it and pay $300 or so and then root it?
This is a video (a long a$$ video) of the Galaxy Note and Nexus World Tour in Europe. This should help you understand why this phone will be sought after sooooo much.
i have the same confusion.. but who knows when AT&T will get the phone.. 2 months or more wait i guess.. wait will kill me... on the other hand 700$ seems too much...
I have been battling this same debate.
Here's the pros to waiting:
1. Save at least $400.
2. Gives time to see what bugs may come out by first buyers.
3. Easier warranty replacement through local att store.
4. Better layout of buttons as ours will likely come with a search button.
5. Possibly an NFC enabled American version.
6. During your wait you fin out about another device right around the corner that blows this one away...samsung it notorious for announcing a new device that blows away their current devices. Who knows..super amoled plus hd 5 inch screen?
The negatives:
1. They get it first. You have to watch everyone enjoy their awesome device as you remain sleepless at night refreshes pages for an announcement of release here.
2. The wait could be anywhere from 2-6 months for a release here.
3. The international version will get updated first while we wait forever for ATT to approve the update here.
4. Missing the cool look of the one main button vs a stupid search button.
5. Lose interest...convert to being an Amish and start making your own jams.
I'm leaning more towards waiting, but my upgrade isn't up until Jan 1st anyway. I also don't see the benefit in buying an unsubsidized phone since we don't get lower monthly rates for it. I could maybe accept paying $400 if I could save $20 a month on rate plans over the next two years.
From my experiences, it's ALWAYS better to wait in these particular situations, where new technology is evolving so quickly. Let samsung work out the kinks on the 1st batch of notes. (i.e. 1st batch of ps2's were not as good)
I really wanted the samsung galaxy s2, but waited and now I'd rather have the note. Save money, and more better options will open up.

I just ordered the unlocked Galaxy Note. I will be enjoying it a few months and then sell it at a loss and buy another high end phone. $700 for a phone is a lot but then it only take me about half a day to make $700. I could never wait for 2 months to get a new phone that I want. Time is money.

I have another question to ask...
Is the UK version of...let's say... the SGS2 the same as the American version. At least as far as Hardware is concerned.
I'm curious if it is common for Samsung to have Hardware differences in the same phones for different countries.
Anybody know?
This would make a huge difference in my decission to wait or not.

I pre-order one also the 26 but still no ETA
If it makes any difference to anyone sitting on the fence: I just read an article that said the FCC passed an AT&T version of the Note today. At first I thought "who cares," because I'm debating pre-ordering too, and as anyone else considering pre-ordering knows, the european model has support for at&t's radio frequencies anyway. BUT, the article pointed out the support for HSPA+, which I didn't consider before. I don't really care, as it's never made much of a difference for me, but if you do care, there ya have it.
The wait could still be a long, long time, but I like to hope that FCC approval means it will be here soon. Then again, maybe Sammy is just being diligent with paperwork... does anyone know when the AT&T GS2 passed through the FCC?
AT&T announced two new phones today, if the note was going to be on their network in less than a few weeks, I think they would have announced the Note too
Hey, Earthbrain: I don't mean to start a fight or get off topic, but I have to address the comment you made earlier. My father was a physician too, and I know it takes a lot of work to get there, it involves long hours, and you deserve to make a great salary. Not debating that. And I applaud your advice to study hard and work hard. But I don't like the implication that studying hard and working hard = good income. Not because that's a bad idea (it's a GREAT idea!), but because it's extremely untrue. I'm a teacher, and I work damn hard. As hard as a doctor? I can't say, I'm not a doctor, but I doubt it's a significant difference.
I know you didn't mean to be a jerk - you meant to give good advice - but it just feels like a slap in the face when you're busting your ass all the time for completely thankless work that pays less than 30K. You work hard and deserve a good salary, I just wish the state/school could afford to pay me 1/4 of your salary. Hell, 1/8 would be a miracle. My advice to any youngster/grade school student reading these forums: Work hard, study hard, be kind, and if you want a good salary (which is a good thing to have), choose your career accordingly.

FCC approval was a long time ago and unfortunately it does not mean that ATT is going to get it soon
You have to ask yourself if you can wait that long before AT&T releases it. It took nearly 6 months for AT&T to get the SGS2 from the time I bought my SGS2 from Expansys-USA.

Sorry for being a little off topic but I have to clarify after reading this post.
When I said "study hard and work hard" I implied that you will have better chance of having a good income. I did not make it absolute like you stated as "study hard and work hard = good income"
Nothing is absolute in life except for DEATH.
Doctors work very hard, but of course there are exceptions and there will also be "some" teachers who work harder than "some" doctors. However, to put it in some perspective, imagine that you are a "certain" doctor that have to go to the hospital at 6:30 am to do rounds and go home at 7 p.m after admitting all the patients and then there are days when you are on call in which you are constantly being awaken by the nurses or that your heart is beating more rapidly trying to revive a patient from a code blue.
Oh, and speaking of salary differences. An orthodontist who does braces normally make about 5X the salary of a general doctor and normally does not work as hard and has less responsibility. They both "have to study hard and work hard" .... so why is there such a big gap in salary?
Guys? Let's take this personal discussion of careers and salaries offline to Private Message.

I´ve sold my Legend to my friend... He had an HTC Magic, sold it and bought my. An upgrade also!

I love HTC with sense, so I'll buy HTC One X once I have enough money
My two daughters abandoned their Legends for iPoop so I finally got to root and custom ROM them as spare phones. They wouldn't let me do it when they were using them, even though I told them they would be better.
They had a look after I flashed them and said "WOW they didn't work like that when we had them".

Finally they see the Android on the best way!
You got a very great website forum.xda-developers.com , Glad I noticed it through yahoo. regards
I've moved on to an HTC One S S4.
Really owe this community a lot for all the stuff I managed to do with Legend
Hard to believe the Legend's nearly three years old. I still don't even have a fallback phone! Maybe an old One X or the Nexus 4. :-$

I always like more and more competition since its better for the consumer. Just that the idea of buying the HTC One scares me regarding future support (updates / warranty / resale value) :-/
I loved my nexus one... but I'm sure we can all agree that HTC has been in a rough stretch sales wise. Less sales starts the bad spiral of less money -> less marketing -> less customers -> less pull with carriers -> less R&D -> less user base -> less accessories -> less support etc.
I guess I'm the only one that's worried to buy from a company that seems to be on its last hope
Of course the loyalists will flame me because they are protective of HTC's image and that's ok (because I can appreciate being a fan). But is there anyone else out there that has had this worry about buying the One as well? I'd like to hear your thoughts even if they are negative

Yesterday they said that their sales fell by 45% in the month of July compared to the same month last year, from T$45.11 billion to T$25 billion ($834 million). The sales were also down compared the previous month by T$5 billion. - August 2012

As a proud owner of an HTC rezound (htc's long lost orphan child) r&d couldn't have been better. With our small community of talented devs this phone has countless roms, cm, pac, ported sense 4.x you name it...
R&D won't be a problem on the one, which will sell way more than the rezound.

I can agree with being purchase off eventually. But in the meantime, like a bleeding wounded animal, they would cut spending at various key departments in order to stave off having to be bought out... which cuts into the HTC One marketing and customer base, limiting the resale demand and market share for that phone.
Also if they are bought out / merged is there any thing guaranteeing a past 1 year, out of warranty repair could be given if needed? Say your 1 day out of warranty and your battery completely dies.

Being maliciously poisoned by someone or any other random car accident/plane crash type example is different than trying to make a calculated decision about an electronics purchase.
That would be like telling someone who is weighing the risks versus benefits of buying a particular stock "Ah who cares? you might get poisoned at Starbucks anyways."
I have used no smartphones BUT htc since the ppc6700 and I won't be buying the one. First and foremost I'm just pissed at the game htc pays with source code being released right before or after a version becomes replaced. Going with s4 if the fabled mastodon nexus 5 doesn't come to fruition in short order. I think the one is pretty much a one x with stuff removed (a button here, an sd card there) in that respect it's aptly named although it becomes a bit confusing. One x s v and now just one?

HTC is declining for sure, but I don't think ut will be dead anytime in 3 years. HTC still holds cash on hand(earned before 2012). Their problem is going less and less profitable, not fighting for last breath.

I think you can be confident that this phone's lifespan will last at least as long as HTC will...part of that's unfortunately because HTC doesn't exactly have a fantastic history of supporting their own devices, but developers certainly do, and I have a feeling the One will be at least as popular with the dev community as the One XL was - and I think the XL still has a good, long life ahead of it.
So, even if HTC vanishes from the face of the Earth, devs will keep it alive :good:
Being someone who bit the bullet with Palm/HP webOS, I think that threads like these are ridiculous. If you like the phone, why does it matter? I received a number of replacement Palm Pres through my carrier even after Palm was bought out. If there is an issue with the One it will likely be handled the same way. As for resale value... If it lasts you two years you have effectively paid about 25 bucks a month assuming it costs 600 bucks. I think the One will probably be worth that to me, and that is assuming you won't get a penny in resale value.
Maybe I'm alone in this, but the phone you use every day has to be worth something to you, and maybe if the One isn't worth 25 bucks a month for two years, you could return it and get a GS4 or wait for something else instead of worrying about what it will be worth when you're done with it.

This isn't a thread to be mad at HTC and say all the reasons your are pissed at them and why you are not buying a One. The topic of this thread is simply talking about being uncertain/worried about buying a One due to risks of HTC's future. Please don't hijack the thread over other topics. Thank you :good:

My apologies. As a die hard htc customer, I thought that my opinion might be reflective of the mistakes they might be making that you seem concerned about. That said, they are still one of the top (2?) manufacturers and are far from tanking. Support shouldn't be an issue. If you like that phone, I see absolutely no reason for concern.

Actually HTC has great update track record. I think only Asus is better. I would be more scared of buying Sony or Samsung. Especially for all the rumors that Samsung is leaving Android in favor of their own OS.
And don't forget that HTC decided to only have 1 flagship device they will update faster.
And HTC must have a lot of money left because in Germany their commercials are everywhere. And they are major UEFA sponsor. Only biggest company's can afford that.
And as it looks HTC One is selling like crazy right now. Not at all strange as almost all reviewers love it and praise it.

Yep. I also worry about future support. HTC is notorious for slow updates

Like I said before HTC is not in a state where they are losing their business. They're just having lesser profit(income) compared to the past years. Now if anybody here thinks that $36million income in a quarter of a year is small then give me $1million on my paypal account right now lol!
And yeah having lower profit on the 1st quarter is expected by HTC.
1. They haven't released new phones.
2. They made budgets for the release of their HTC One(Where do you think they would get their budget for it?)
3. Obviously their past phones did really not sell out.
Now with the HTC One coming I'm pretty sure their profit would surge out this 2nd quarter. To think their stocks now jumped in by +9.65% they are obviously earning big time on the HTC One right now even considering it's not yet widely released and lack of availability.

As this thread doesn't discuss features of the device but is rather discussing HTC alleged financial situation its now closed before it really becomes a fanboy battleground..
Hi,
I'm a big Samsung fan, i've had the S1, S2 and currently own the S3..at the moment i'm running cyanogenmod 10.1 and after a few initial misgivings about it's lack of features compared to a sammy touchwiz rom ... i'm really starting to like the aosp feel and look..
Now after a year of owning the S3 i'm getting a bit restless and feel like a change.. the nexus 4 is the phone that's intriguing me most. So I have a really simple question, is it a sensible move to the 4 from the S3.
Carl.
Yes only if non removable battery or SD card is not a problem which I personally don't mind and the camera won't to better but around the same and no lte then I'd say go for it , it does give you a bang for your buck especially with development I use P.A which is awesome

The main pros of the Nexus 4 that I keep listing anytime I tell people about it are the following:
1. Price. $350 is pretty much half the price of any other competitor to the Nexus 4
2. Pure Android, updated directly from Google. As soon as a new version of Android is released, it's on the Nexus. Google develops Android FOR this device.
3. Design. Glass front and back, it's a solid phone. Looks sleek.
Now, newly-released phones do have slightly better hardware. But we're getting to the point of diminishing returns. We're packing so much hardware into these devices, you'll hard-pressed to find software that actually makes use of it. I think the only debate you should be having is buy the Nexus 4 now, or wait until the next Nexus comes out, possible during the holidays. That isn't to say this phone won't still be a solid phone then, but I can understand if some people wait to buy updated versions.
To answer your question: yes. It is definitely worth it. At $350, it's fiscally irresponsible NOT to buy a Nexus 4. Right now I'm paying $30/mo for a tablet plan on AT&T with 3gb of data. Having weird and crazy options like that don't seem to happen with other phones. I feel like the Nexus 4 is YOUR phone, not 80% your phone, 20% the manufacturer's.
Spoiler alert: I might be a little biased, but c'mon. It's a sweet phone.
No, don't buy a N4. You obviously can't be bothered to research and figure out if this phone is worth it or not. You definitely aren't going to do any other research when you attempt to Root, Rom, and Mod......Buy a different phone and clutter their forums.:silly:
Definitely get the phone. It's worth every penny. Root it and put Franco kernel and you're good for the entire day.

Before I read everyone else's post I want to say I came from the gs3 had gs2. I would do it again in a heart beat. However it's not a super huge upgrade like it was from gs1 to gs2 or even gs2 to gs3. The software is where I enjoyed the phone the most.
I loved my screen on my gs2 and gs3 on this I wasn't impressed until I got used to it. Now I feel samsung screens have to much pop in the colors
Hope this made sense

is the phone worth it, hell yeah for 350$ you can't get better. Is it worth it for you? You'll have to answer that question yourself.

Lol dat butthurt
Well the guy is trying to get perspective from people who actually own the device and use it day to day which is much different than reading any review from someone who might be biased in one way or another.
Maybe the op could have used a different subject or maybe asked what everyone thinks of the phone from actual owners.
Just something to consider before jumping to conclusions

Not in love with the Nexus 4. Have had it since January when it replaced my SGS2 (T989). I really appreciated not having to search for the least buggy ROM, as the stock was nice but at this point I'm dissatisfied with the Camera, which seems to produce mostly mediocre pictures (sadly, and since my other devices and cameras produce better ones, I'm afraid it's not (usually) operator error); the screen, whose color palate I don't love and whose auto-brightness is chronically dim (which can of course be mostly remedied by not using auto-brightness, though wish I could), and lastly the touch sensitivity, which I may try to adress now—I understand there are fixes. Nevertheless, I'm gonna see what T-Mobile will sell me a SGS4 for...

Cheers for the help.. i've read dozens of reviews, spec lists and browsed many forums to get a decent idea of the phone, I thought i'd ask people who may have previously had the Galaxy line of phones and XDA seemed a logical place to do so..
I've been a registered member of this site for probably 2 years and never created a thread before, simply because of the very hostile and condescending attitude of some of the members and BINGO, you did yourself proud mate..
