I'm not sure I understand entirely what you're asking, but from what I've read you would need a bootloader that was not locked and had been signed with a key that your current bootloader will accept. Do you have one?
I think he means the following:
IF our bootloader wasn't locked and he would flash a custom ROM but wanted to return to the stock one, if he can flash his stock bootloader back to prevent bricks in the future.

Rooting 2.3.4 with unlocked bl

Hi everyone. I got a replacement phone and it still had froyo. Before I updated to 2.3.4 I unlocked the bootloader. Is there an easy way to root since I did that? I appreciate any help.

I would like to know if there is a method to root the Nexus 7 without unlocking the BL?
Could not find an answer in other threads...

you need to unlock the bootloader to install custom roms etc. I'm sure you could root the device install a su binary and super user and then easily relock the bootloader with a single command fastboot oem lock. What exactly are you afraid of? It's super easy if you have android sdk installed.
I don't wanna void warranty... and I don't want the related factory reset.

Then you won't get root.

You can backup everything using adb backup (okay there are some app you can't backup with that, e.g. Temple run or Subway Surf) and after unlocking restore the backup

CWM with locked bootloader?

Hey guys,
I just bought the nexus 4 from a guy and its working awesome. The only "problem" I have is that the guy before me was playing around with the nexus. And now I have a locked bootloader, no SU binaries/root but CWM?? Is it possible to have CWM with a locked bootloader?
Anyways, i dont want to play around with it because the original store that sold this nexus will blame me for playing around with it if something actually happens.
So can i update it to key lime pie when it comes out without any problems?? Or can i remove CWM without unlocking the bootloader(i have alot of apps)?
Thanks

You can flash a ROM and then relock the bootloader. Just unlock it and start again
Nevermind

It's better to go back to 100% stock so you know exactly what's been done
You can always use this if you're rooted. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.segv11.bootunlocker

Unlocked Bootloader/Not rooted

This may be a dumb question, but on my nexus 10 I have an unlocked bootloader but not rooted. Will the unlocked bootloader keep me from receiving ota updates?
Asking because as all of us, I am waiting for 4.3 but if my unlocked bl is preventing it, I would like to relock to get it or flash the image from a download.
Let me know if the unlocked bl is preventing otas.
Thanks.
