Hi everyone. I got a replacement phone and it still had froyo. Before I updated to 2.3.4 I unlocked the bootloader. Is there an easy way to root since I did that? I appreciate any help.

Hi all
Just unlocked my bl and rooted this awesome phone. I notice I am on 2.3.2 right now but would like to update to 2.3.3.
I have heard there is a method to manually flash this update without losing my unlock/root.
Could anyone point me in the right direction?

I've heard of people flashing it OTA and then doing Flashtool to recover it, because your Play will be bricked afterwards... I still don't know if you would still have unlock and root after that though... I'm thinking of jumping ship to CM7.
Would someone mind referring me to the steps of ota and then unbricking with flashtool please?

If you installed the most recent update without using Voodoo RootKeeper to back up your root, you're up the creek without a paddle because the newest update breaks root and changes the bootloader so you can't SBF.

Thanks. That explains it!

Hey guys I have a factory unlocked phone which I bought from china, and I also have it rooted, my friend wants me to to update to JB but I'm not sure if I have to unroot my phone to get the update and also if I unroot it will I loose my factory unlock? I'm using it in the United States right now. With carrier t-mobile.. I've also seen other posts about being slow after updating if it's international so what should I do?

The open bootloader never gets locked in any way

What does that mean?

I am using the stock JB and its very fast and smooth. You will have to unroot if you want to update via OTA, I have read others say that you can update via Lies without unrooting, but I can tell you for sure. As for whether you would lose your unlock the short answer is no.
would be a help to root my DROID RAZR M, ota updated to 4.4.2 kitkat
If your asking about root there isn't any for 4.4.2. That I know of

At the moment there is no confirmed exploit for 4.4.2 unless you have an unlocked bootloader. Still holding out hope that someone can figure it out. If not, I'm still perfectly happy with the update. My phone is substantially snappier.

If your unlocked just flash custom recovery and flash superuser
