Just got my new toy!! - Nexus S General

Finally was able to get a Nexus S 4g found someone off Craigslist who did an even trade for my EVO. I did love my EVO but since my gf got her Nexus I have wanted one. On my EVO I ran Decks and loved it. I already have it rooted now I just need to decide if I want to keep it stock or try something else. Any advice on a great rom would be appreciated thinking about trying out Decks.

Wowzers. That guys lost out hardcore lmao

Yeah first they wanted me to throw in some cash and I was like your the one who posted on CL that you wanted to trade for an Evo so you want it and if you look on Sprint.com the Evo is selling more then the Nexus so he did it lol. I was like Score!!

I've left mine stock and I love this phone. It works smoothly and (almost) flawlessly.

Yes, stay stock for now. And when you got bored, you can try Brainmaster's MIUI if you want different andorid experience with many customization options ...

Yeah I had MIUI on the EVO it was amazing how much customization you can do with it. I just wish they had 4g support.
Thanks I am excited to be in the club!!
Any kernel recommendations??

Trinity, check my signature! I've tried them all (almost), and trinity TUV/TEUV have best battery/performance ratio in my opinion...

Welcome to the Nexus got mine a few weeks ago and rooted and flashed CM7 on the 1st day LOL .. you should go and try Trinity definitely for Speed and it's under-volted also if your looking for rock solid stability go for Bugless pete's Kernel

Never had those problems with NS version and trinity kernel...

Thanks for the advice Im using Bugless Pete's kernel and his deodexed rom of 2.3.7 and have it over clocked to 1.4 with set cpu. Do you have any recommendations for Set Cpu settings? I know I don't to use cpu if I'm running a different rom but for right now Im basically stock.

Isn't that a GSM only version of MIUI? OP said he traded his Evo, so it seems to me that he probably has CDMA service. Just sayin...

So far I am loving this phone running Bugless Pete's deodexed rom and kernel and installed the voodoo app and configured the color scheme and all I can say is wow I thought the display was great before ... this blows it out of the water!!
I have been going back and forth between overclocking to 1.4 and it has been extremely stable and keeping it at stock.
I am so happy I got this phone and I can honestly say I don't miss the EVO.

[Q] Latest and Greatest HTC evo roms?

just rooted my phone after a long while of thinking if i should or shouldnt.
i was wondering whats the latest and greatest rom thats looks dope and is stable?
cm7 all day kidddddddddd!
MikFroyo 4.5, couple it with ziggy's newest kernel = BeastMode
Many customizations and tweaks, awesome support, data speed tweaks super fast super stable. What more could you ask for? Oh yeah there's CM7 with its usual bugs and so called Wimax that rarely connects for more than a minute. There's a new iphone, I mean MIUI gingerbread ROM. I like to to say about MIUI if you want an iPhone go buy one but don't put a Chevy small block 350 in a Ford chassis!

I just went through the same predicament and rooted for the first time tonight, as well, and chose Warm Z TwoPointTwo. I really like it so far. I don't have a super educated opinion considering, as previously stated, my first time rooting and my first ROM. Look around the development section and really read all those posts in the tens of pages to get an idea of it all, as well as extra tips, tricks, tweaks, themes, fixes, etc.

[Q] MyTouch 4G Rooted. What ROMs are good out there?

Hi,
Well, i finally rooted my phone, after 5 dyas of dealing with the things, diferent ways, etc.
Now, I would like to know from you all guys, what ROMs are good out there. What do you all recomend me to try.
I already have Cyanogen on my little old G ( version 6 ) And it looks pretty cool.
Any suggestion? i want a stable ROM where i can Install the apps without problems, or having any kinda of signal problem, or networks ( g, 3G, HSPA) problems
Thanks for your Suggestions!
Daniel
If you like sense, evil d's virtuous fusion. I use to hate sense roms but I've been rockin it as a d'd for a while now. Battery life was horrible at first but with faux's low voltage kernel and juice defender, I've gotten surprisingly good battery life. Sense 3.0 features are elegant and functional. Way faster and stable than any other sense roms I used.
I use royal ginger for aosp Rom. Phenomenal battery life speed and stability.

The point was people can give opinions, but you won't know what works for you until you try it yourself. He/she can listen to a suggestion just to found out they don't like it and flash another.
^^ That should have been obvious without me having to elaborate.
I switched to meXdroid a couple days ago and love it. It's really fast, battery is good looks great and everything works ( except your upside down in the front facing camera) but I can live with that. You can also download it through Rom Manager
It really depends what you are looking for.

I've rocked eViL DEE's Sense 3.0 ROM, RoyalThunder and Cyanogen.
I always go back to CM7Nx. But then again it's easy for us to put what we like on your phone. You should invest in Titanium Backup and explore the ROMs for your self like Donny P mentioned to begin with.

CM7 Problems

I'm loving CM7, but I'm having a few small problems. They mostly revolve around locking/unlocking my phone. Whenever I'm in a phone call I can't get the phone to unlock without sliding open the keyboard, and occasionally it glitches up and won't unlock normally unless I slide up the keyboard.
Does anyone know what this could be?

Promoting shift deck is like taking a budlight changing the label to "mybeer" and re selling it. The rom is the same as CM7... Anyhow unlocking issues from lockscreen on the latest nightly is fixed by changing your cpu governor. I was using interactive and was getting unlock issues. Switch to any other and your fine. Now to flash the change led lights rom like a boss.

Well using 460/245 on batterysave governor or any other governor for that matter I still dont get lockscreen lag as I had lag on CM7 on any kernel, governor and on any speed. I know ShiftDeck is based on CM7 but I'm telling you from experience it works much better for me. It has fixed all the little quirks I had with CM7 not to mention give the best benchmark scores I've ever had plus has better battery life. It is all I want in a Rom and I dont see me changing anytime soon.
Have you used Shift Deck and can honestly say its the same?

Most basic root/overclocked g2

Just swapped my spring and now looking to root and overclock to about 1200mhz or less if n64oid will run smooth. What is the most basic way I can go about doing this and which is the most basic rom I should use? I don't care much about all these crazy bells and whistles. I use about 20 apps and that's it.
Any help or direction would be awesome.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
Glite it super light weight, fast and is stock overclocked to 1GHz n64oid runs great on my phone. I find ram is the biggest problem when I run it but since I converted to ext4 and flashed this ROM it runs great.
What you want is the safest root method. Use the method from the Wiki:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Vision#Rooting_the_Vision_.28G2.2FDZ.29_and_DHD
Use the root method from the wiki. Do all your reading before you start so you can reduce the chance that you mess something up.
After that, install the custom ROM of your choice. If you want something AOSP-like then go cm7 or one of the other stock based. Most custom ROMs allow overclocking to at least 1.2ghz.

Yea its harder than many, but definitely not super difficult. The guides are detailed and have rooted thousands of devices.
CM7 is the most popular custom ROM by far and is available on dozens of devices. For this reason there are lots of good features and bugs are rare in stable builds.

There are lots of roms, and neither are the best. I beleive roms are NEVER stable. They always need to be modified, they always need to meet standards. No best ROM.. Period. But if I were to choose, MIUI would be the best LOOKING but not the best that's working.

So far I have used SRF, Reborn, ACS Bambozzled, ERA Viper, and I am currently using Simply AOSP. I have loved each Rom I have used, each have their quirks. Usually the GB runs give me a few headaches... like restoring with titanium screws up my app space, GPS is up and down, etc. I would recommend using an EC05 Rom until things are fully stable with GB (especially CM7 Selfkang), just to save yourself a few headaches.

I've only used a few. Stock, Viper (apocalypse, frozen, and synergy), and urban legend (fury and regen). I'm currently using Urban Regen 1.1.1, with Rodericks genocide 2.0 kernel. Lately, I try to stick with EC05 based ROMs and kernels for their stability and the number of options out there for EC05. I'm relatively new to rooting and flashing so i don't know everything there is to know about it, but I'm learning fast. I'm definitely not new to tech, holding a few IT certifications, a degree in CNT and presently in school working on another degree, so my knowledge of operating systems (especialy linux ) is helping me learn much faster. The best advice i can give you, is to read the forums, ask questions when you can't find an answer (no matter how stupid you think the question is) and to try a little of everything until you find what you like or learn how to do it yourself, lol. There are tons of guides, wikis, and awesome developers who are willing to help you as long as you try your best to help yourself as well. You'll get the occasional put down, or get called a noob, you'll make mistakes and feel dumb, but everyone does so don't worry about it. Just try to remember that pretty much any question you can think of, any problem you run into, and disaster you cause, has probably happened to someone else before and has probably been addressed more than twice on these forums, so do some searching before you just start posting "HELLLLLLP MEEEEEEE!!!" Another piece of advice i can give you, that i did with my first phone, is get a decent size and class sd, read a guide on how to dual boot ROMs (i think theres even an app now that does most of it for you!), root your phone, leave the stock ROM on your phone, flash a good kernel that supports dual booting (check out genocide 2.0). That way, you can try out new ROMs as much as you like and always be able to revert back to stock when you need some stability or if you run into bugs.
Good Luck!

I've been rocking SRF 1.2 for about 3 months now with the Twilight Zone 1.1.1 Kernel. Very stable, no force closes or reboots, GPS locks instantly, over a full day of battery life. I'd stick with EC05 ROMs until the official GB ROMs drop. I've tried a few of the leaked GB roms and none of them have been stable enough to be daily drivers.

Which scripts you running? Just curious, been thinking of flashing back to SRF.
I've been rollin' with IAP Rebirth the past several weeks. Awesome ROM, but I've been getting reboots. Haven't even touched the Supercharger scripts and it's the most responsive ROM I've used.
