[Q] Latest and Greatest HTC evo roms? - EVO 4G General

just rooted my phone after a long while of thinking if i should or shouldnt.
i was wondering whats the latest and greatest rom thats looks dope and is stable?

cm7 all day kidddddddddd!

MikFroyo 4.5, couple it with ziggy's newest kernel = BeastMode
Many customizations and tweaks, awesome support, data speed tweaks super fast super stable. What more could you ask for? Oh yeah there's CM7 with its usual bugs and so called Wimax that rarely connects for more than a minute. There's a new iphone, I mean MIUI gingerbread ROM. I like to to say about MIUI if you want an iPhone go buy one but don't put a Chevy small block 350 in a Ford chassis!

Cm7 like #woah
swyped from my cyanogenized and gingerbreaded EVO

I just went through the same predicament and rooted for the first time tonight, as well, and chose Warm Z TwoPointTwo. I really like it so far. I don't have a super educated opinion considering, as previously stated, my first time rooting and my first ROM. Look around the development section and really read all those posts in the tens of pages to get an idea of it all, as well as extra tips, tricks, tweaks, themes, fixes, etc.

After a few dozen rom changes, I finally stuck with koni's elite series II. Has a great dark theme and everything works great.

So, with the slow down in rom releases and updates due to stable builds that require nothing more. I thought I'd share the rom that I will be using for more then a day or too...I'm thinking long term here. I've found that I really enjoy ACS roms, Jaimie, King and settling on Koni III. I really like the stability, speed and options for customizing. I've found Koni III provides everything that other ACS roms have, except I really like the coloring and icons. They are smooth and everything functions normally. So i'm kind of freaking out, because now I have to use my phone like a normal person am I alone?

Try making, or tweeking Icons (I prefer tweeking) on Photo Shop, or Gimp. I find that it helps with the downtime. This really does suck tho!

I'm not sure what everyone means by 'slowdown in rom releases'. I can't keep up with the new releases! Just off the top of my head, in the past few days, we have seen new releases of : salvage mod. Savaged Zen. MIuI. Dark cocoa. Elite III. Virus airbourne. Destroyer sequel. Evervolv nightlies. Cm nightlies. King cocoa. Unleashed R3. Kings gingerbread rom. And there are more. So, inform me how that equates to a shortage?! Haha, I literally can't keep up with trying g them all out!!!

Agreed! Just in the past week we've had like 4 completely different aosp rom releases. All of which are phenomenal and have different things to offer... If your not into aosp, then yes, rom development has slown down a ton on sense, but thats ecpected when you have ideal developers who work there ass's off for perfection

There's even been recent sense releases, in the past couple days. There's konis elite III, dark cocoa, king cocoa, and Vaelpak 3.2 .
To answer your question, AOSP (android open source project) is straight android, no HTC sense, bloatware from sprint. Avg sense rom = 180-210mb. Avg AOSP rom = 60-80mb. AOSP doesn't have any of the HTC Widgets, and has different dialer, email, and contacts apps (among other differences throughout the rom) . I suggest trying it out if you're bored. You'll always just be a nandroid restore away from sense!

I love aosp, but i'm not ready for gingerbread and 6.1.2 just won't due! I agree flashing is annoying but addicitng, sad sad techie world I live in with my phone flashing and my MUD games....
I've got so many Nandroids backed up on my computer that to pass the time I just restore one every day or two. I'm running KES III right now and I'm happy with it...we'll see how long that lasts lol!
Just imagine the flurry of ridiculous this forum is gonna be when we get Gingerbread w/Sense this summer.
Myn, Mik, Koni, King, Vael and all our other sense devs are gonna be blowing the place up. I can't wait!!!
SInce I've had my Evo, I haven't gone more than 3 days withuut flashing something new. And I'e had them all, sense, Miui, The various CM Roms, but I've also settled on Koni III aqs my daily, until something new enough to catch my eye comes out.

I hope you're right. I fear we may lose some devs to the Evo3D, or some other devices that are soon to be released. If the devs stay, so will I. If they go to Evo3d, I will follow. I love messing around with my phone, and need a strong dev community to fill my unsatiable flashing needs.

That's why I ditched my T-Mobile phones (G1 and MyTouch Slide). I wanted something with a little more options. There wasn't anything better than CM over there although I think they have Desire Z roms in the G1 forums now.
I hope we get some devs to stick around. My decision to get an Evo 3d will be based on who goes and who stays. I'm a huge fan of Aamikam (MikFroYo) and Konikub so if they split there's probably a good bet I will too. Unless they still develop for the Evo. I know many devs who did dev work for the G1 long after they upgraded so it's not out of the ordinary.
My fingers are crossed. If there's no one who can make that 2.3 w/sense update super sexy like they did 2.2 w/sense then it might be time to split.

How come not ready for gingerbread? It's basically the same **** except for the cool lockscreen and the dope keyboard. Coming from being afraid of flashing ANY rom, I flashed Fresh in December, found it to be kinda buggy, then made the leap to CM7 right when RC1 came out, been HOOKED on it ever since. I'm on nightly 30 now and it's pretty dang stable. Make the leap, man
I've tried a couple of Gingerbread roms and ran into the usual Sprint VVM problem. While it's no big deal to call voicemail instead of using the visual, the V30 error that pops up every so often is a pain in the butt. I don't suppose there is a rom out there that won't give me that problem? I've tried the fix's listed in different threads and they (for me) work for a few hours and then I'm right back to the error messages. I don't use most of the Sense stuff, so it seems pointless to stay on a rom full of it. I've flashed at least 1 new rom a day trying to find something....
I havent flashed a rom in almost 2 months now, think ill go flash CM7 this evening though just to change things up a bit.

i have the same exact problem, it seems as if there is always a good rom! Sense is good but battery consuming, CM is good but not flashy enough, everything else i flash is either a theme or an enhancement. It never ends!!!!

best rom to run?

what would be the best rom to run, what is the most stable and would allow me to stay active on my phone at the same thing as giving me great customizations and battery life? also does any of the roms out there all you to set songs for the notification and messaging/email...
I want to say all around cm7(aosp) is the best rom, but not the most stable at the moment. If you like sense roms id say the best is myns warm 2.2. Second best sense rom is koni's elite III imo.
Download "zedge" for custom ringtones and notifications. (Free in market)
It's honestly up to you to find a rom that works for you.
Everyone is going to tell you the name of a different rom.
As fast as sense roms go, I found that Fresh gave me the most stable experience.
Aosp, I found salvageMod to be more stable than cyanogen mod, but cm is much more customizable.
I personally run Myn's Warm Z

After the most recent cm update, I honestly don't know how any rom could be more stable than that. Everything works and 0 forecloses. To each their own though. I did use Fresh for a while and that seemed to be a pretty quick Sense based rom as well. What is best for me may not be for you. Just do like the rest of us and become a flashaholic
Like bjb said, we all have faves, for different reasons, ymmv.
The two Sense based ones that he mentions are in my sig, and also I've found MikFroyo to be very smooth, good batt life, but pretty much stock look.
Going to an AOSP ROM, or a variant like CM7, can be fun, but be Sure to read all the notes and helpful hints in the first posts for each ROM, they all have their "issues". But often they are worth it for the customizations and tweaking options...
Personally, I am a Sense user, but I ran CM-types on my Hero for a long time, and loved them. The Hero needed them though, to get any real function. The Hero choked on Sense.
But (again, my opinion) I've found Sense based ROMs to be the most stable, and fully "working" (your definition may be different than others) on me Evo. Mainly because the Evo has enough power to actually run it...
blah blah blah...
I have been very impressed with CM7 so far..
CM7 one the top on my list for sure..

That's the best way...flash all the highly spoken ones...try them for a week, make a note to yourself, then continue on, and stick with what you like.
I have tried a lot of rom,(I am addicted to flashing) and with all these roms. there are some shortfalls. I am on HW 0004 and apart form the screen brightness issue, i find that TMartinPPC_EvoGingerSense_v0.1 is very stable and effective. My screen is not thst bright anyway and the battery is good too.
If you look in the EVO developement section, myns rls5, then mikfroyo 4.6 for sense...then CM 7x and miui for aosp are the most popular. Start with those..

Miui or cm7

So I'm in a debate right now, currently running miui 1.5.6 and I love it. Alot of things about it are nice simple and flawless , ui is simple to manage and has great little effects. But cm7 gb was my first rom I used and GPS worked fine unlike my miui atm, little things about miui are starting to tick me off even though its not 100% ready. ( pretty sure I read that some where on here). Anyways any thoughts on which one I should use as a daily? Cm7 easy to theme? I'm still new but open to learning. Thanks again.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
Why would you ask others their opinion on which rom you should run? People that rum miui will tell you to choose, and the same for cm
Just try out all the roms, and see which one you like.
And you can go to evo 4g themes subforum for plenty of cm themes
If you like AOSP I'd say roll with cm7 as your daily driver, but keep in mind miui is plagued with most of the same bugs in CM7. There's a ton of theme starter guides out there it should be easy!
I wonder how many threads have this exact title?
Haha noobs right? Yes I'm ragging on myself but its whatever. And just looking for opinions on pros and cons of both from the "pros" out there. I normally don't have to post of this forum just because everything ( my questions/problems) have been answered already. But asking. And okay ill check it out thanks alot.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think MIUI has 4G. So if that's not important to you, yeah, I'd think about it. If you get 4G almost everywhere you go like I do, go with CM7.

Unfortunately, Tulsa doesn't have 4g, well they do but its only on a busy street called memorial, and it runs for like 3 miles or so. Other than that no, so sticking with MIUI would not be the worst idea. Just need to learn how to theme CM7. The "classic" look isn't for me. Prefer MIUI ui.

So... you are telling us that you have MIUI on your phone right now and have been using it, and that you had CM7 as your daily driver already for an extended period of time? But even after using both as your daily driver you somehow still are unable to figure out which one you like and you want us to tell you which to use? Wow.
You are using MIUI now but you are clearly not happy because you long for CM7.
Switch to CM7.
There are you happy now? You have our permission to do what you clearly wanted to do in the first place.
BTW both MIUI and CM7 are buggy. Welcome to ASOP roms. If you can live without the minor bells and whistles of ASOP a Sense-based ROM is almost always more stable and better with your hardware(for example your videos look like crap on all ASOP roms cuz no one has figured out how to get the 720p recording to work).

Point it only something you can answer for yourself.
Had my sultrySupersonic for less than a week, first ROM i loaded was Destroyer 2 (modded CM7 build). No complaints, no bugs (not sure what these bugs people speak of are). Took a little while to get it themed to how i like, but it's fantastic. I average 2.2 %/hr battery life.
When i saw my buddy running MIUI on his Dinc, i had to try it. LOVED it. The 2.3 build was actually buggy for me, and the 2.2 build was pretty laggy compared to CM7. Ultimately what killed it for me was the batt life. Nothing can compare to my D2 build on my Evo.
Every phone reacts differently, rock them both, play with it, let the Haters Hate. Only you can decide.
HaHa. Interesting thread!

While not as invasive as themes in MIUI, the themes in the T-Mobile theme engine for cm7 will allow you to really customize the look to your liking.
My vote is for CM7. In my opinion it is more feature rich and less buggy. Only disadvantage is its not quite as "pretty" as MIUI, otherwise everything else is better for my use.
Tapa tapa tapa
IF, and I do mean if, they get 2.3 MIUI perfected I will switch back to that. I liked how it felt and looked.
But, having been using CM7 for a few months (I was not a fan of CM6), I am really starting to dig CM7. I don't think any other rom I have tried feels like a ROM that would have come on a phone. What I mean by that is, there aren't many bugs and it looks legit. The customization is pretty awesome too. I just wish CM had things like visitor mode, or some sort of sneaky mode where people couldn't look through your stuff if they pick up your phone. I don't like having to enter a code on my phone to get into it, but I hate that anyone can see anything if they pick it up.

[Q] MyTouch 4G Rooted. What ROMs are good out there?

Hi,
Well, i finally rooted my phone, after 5 dyas of dealing with the things, diferent ways, etc.
Now, I would like to know from you all guys, what ROMs are good out there. What do you all recomend me to try.
I already have Cyanogen on my little old G ( version 6 ) And it looks pretty cool.
Any suggestion? i want a stable ROM where i can Install the apps without problems, or having any kinda of signal problem, or networks ( g, 3G, HSPA) problems
Thanks for your Suggestions!
Daniel
If you like sense, evil d's virtuous fusion. I use to hate sense roms but I've been rockin it as a d'd for a while now. Battery life was horrible at first but with faux's low voltage kernel and juice defender, I've gotten surprisingly good battery life. Sense 3.0 features are elegant and functional. Way faster and stable than any other sense roms I used.
I use royal ginger for aosp Rom. Phenomenal battery life speed and stability.

The point was people can give opinions, but you won't know what works for you until you try it yourself. He/she can listen to a suggestion just to found out they don't like it and flash another.
^^ That should have been obvious without me having to elaborate.
I switched to meXdroid a couple days ago and love it. It's really fast, battery is good looks great and everything works ( except your upside down in the front facing camera) but I can live with that. You can also download it through Rom Manager
It really depends what you are looking for.

I've rocked eViL DEE's Sense 3.0 ROM, RoyalThunder and Cyanogen.
I always go back to CM7Nx. But then again it's easy for us to put what we like on your phone. You should invest in Titanium Backup and explore the ROMs for your self like Donny P mentioned to begin with.

[Q] Getting new mytouch?need help???

Ok so i am getting a mytouch 4g this wednesday. I currently have a samsung vibrant that i got last year. Just wondering what are some good roms to put on thos bad boy to have the best phone. I personally LOVE miui as i currently have it on my vibrant. Just want all the tips i can get.and yes ive read the stickies and now just looking for some input?thanks.
Look up royalginger. I've been running this rom since it first came out and it just keeps getting better. Super smooth and amazing battery life.

there are several "best roms" threads already, along with their fair share of input for each rom chosen. just SEARCH and youll find what youre looking for. also, its all about personal preference when coming down to a "best rom"...

well if you love MIUI on the Vibrant, then youll definitely love MIUI on the 4G. Its blazing fast, highly customizable, EVERYTHING works, and the devs keep it updated well. I would recommend demonSPEED MIUI, never had any issues with it. also if you get tired or bored of the iphonish look, just download launcherpro or ADW and its like using a whole new UI

I can attest to the excellence of demonspeed miui, there is also royalmiui option as well. I havent tried that one before though.
I like RoyalGinger 2.1 because I am a fan of AOSP. If you like Sense, I would go with Virtuous Fusion. If you like Miui, buy an Iphone!

But i want openness. iOS doesn't provide that
Haha yeah but on my vibrant the miui has a problem with incoming calls where I have to either hit mute/unmute or speaker on/off to fix it....is that the same problem on the mytouch???
