[Q] How long does it take your tab to boot up? - Acer Iconia A500

Mine takes 2 mins & 30 seconds.
Starting count during vibration when initially powering on, through the splash screen & boot animation, ending count when the lock screen comes on.
How long does it take yours?

Wow really that long? I just tested it. It was exactly 1 minute from power up to lock screen.

humm .I have never turned.mine off other then going into recovery. So no big deal to me.guessna minute or so

It was exactly 1 minute

42.39 seconds timed with the stopwatch on my phone, vibrate to unlock screen.
To the OP, I'm not sure it should take 2 minutes too boot?!?!?

Yeah thats why I posted this thread.. Im running custom 3.2, richardtrips 3.4 kernel, got bout 1 gig of space left on the internal SD card.. What can cause the boot time to be so long?

1Gb space left?!?!? What the heck do you have on your tab. I've got tons of apps and have 11.59Gb free.
If a lot of it is music, movies, etc., you might want to store them on your external? Just a suggestion.

Boot up with same set up
Running the Taboonay 2.0 (Android 3.2) and richardtrips 3.4 kernel. Get to the lock screen in 52 seconds. Have 9.51 GB of space left. Maybe not the same ROM. Which custom 3.2?

I have a similar issue, mine takes more than 2 minutes and using stock 3.2 ROM, no mods or anything. Does anybody think his can be caused by an installed app?

I have the same issue, with about 2gb free... Doesn't really bother me though

All the bloatware that comes installed stock on the tab slows it down considerably. What many custom roms do is rip out a lot of the bloatware so there are less running services, which means both a smoother experience while turned on, and faster start-up/shutdown times. Which is why you see some people getting sub-1 minute boots.
@op, what custom rom are you using? You stated that you're using a custom kernal, but if it's not made for the rom you're using, then you can run into problems, a longer boot time more than likely being one of them.

Yes, you are starting something that is causing your problem. However, I would suspect it's something outside the normal apk applications. Normal apk applications are forced to timeout after so many seconds and killed by the engine. So, something taking too long to load normally is killed and you are shown an error about the program. Since you're not mentioning seeing errors, I would suspect an application outside the normal user interface. Just a guess.
In the past, I've seen this were the Linux kernel is trying to init hardware you don't have which waits for a timeout to occur.

[Q]Slow wake up

So, when i lock my phone, and when i try to wake up to unlock, it is really really slow sometimes (up to 10-15 seconds even)..
Is there any way to prevent this ( to decrease that wake up time ) ?
p.s. My phone wm and android roms, radio and kernel is shown in my signature
Cheers ppl and thanks in advance,
Laynee
The 'smartass' scaling defaults to 245mhz when the screens off.... Disable the smartass, then bump the frequency up when the screens off !
Ok, first of all thanks for swift and fast response..
Second, from your reply, it seems like i have to install setCpu, and do that in it? What freq to put when screen is off? Because last time i got those profiles set up in setCpu ( before i uninstalled it), they didnt work..
And last, will it affect my battery drainage alot ?
p.s. One more question ( i know im annoying ) : I got really slow download speed when downloading from Market.. any cure ?
Huh, nor smartass nor underclocking in standby is respondible for slow wake up (well, maybe for a split second but definitely not the 10-15 seconds OP is talking about).
I haven't found any solution for this yet, but actually once you learn to only lock your phone when you know you won't be needing it the next 30 seconds, your problems are gone. (Unless you're using an old build/kernel, in that case you should just upgrade. New builds only lockup if you unlock shortly after locking.)
Slow market downloads is due to your sd card apparently. Either try with another one, or unmount SD card before starting the download.
i always find using the 'pick up' key wakes the phone in less then 3 secs everytime for me
I'm my experience wake lag is caused by corruption of the SD card. It happens more often when I try to use higher class cards than the stock one. What always fixes it for me is running checkdisk in windows. It usually finds errors and after it fixes them and I reboot I get no wake lag for a while. Errors happen a lot less often for me when I stick to stock sandisk class 2 card. Hope this works for you.

I found this recently on Desire HD, it takes 3-5 seconds to wake up (not using setcpu)
I am using cedesmith desire hd2 (beta) rom with 2.14.50_2 radio and energy (13-nov) winmo.
Most desire builds are ok (less than 1 sec )
Hope to fix this ASAP

The most you can do is try another microSD card, but the reality is that this is device-dependent. You've just been unlucky to get an HD2 that is slow to wake up.
I know this because I had an HD2 before which took around 5-10 seconds to wake up all the time. After I broke it, my insurance company replaced it.
My new HD2 wakes up instantly almost always.
Well i forgot to mention one thing :
The slow wake up problem is not happening every time i try to unlock phone(its not that much often but when it happends im pissed off).
When it happends, buttons and screen are up, but screen is blank for 7-10 ( not 15 seconds i overreacted )..
So any help now ?

hmmm my screen is only ever delayed by around 3 or 4 seconds e.g. when in the middle of installing software.
Only thing that might help is, as before, trying another microSD card or a different ROM/kernel.
The one I'm on is Mdeejay Clean Sense with hastarin 8.5.1. Try that and see if it's any better. If not, its either your microSD card or just your phone.

[Q] Start Up Load Time: 3+ Minutes??

Can anyone else who has an Xperia Play help me out here? I got the phone this past Tuesday. At that time, it loaded up rather quickly. Now when I turn it on, it takes over 3 minutes to load up. I literally turned my Nexus S on at the same time and I could have powered it on and off 3 times in the amount it took for the Play to load. It sat on the Sony Ericsson screen for like 2 minutes and then another 1 minute after the SE circle logo appeared.
A few details:
1. I am currently in the US on vacation using my Japanese SIM card. Thus I am roaming. The data is turned off however the phone network obviously isn't. When the SIM is out of the unit it loads up much faster.
2. The phone is not rooted.
Has this happened to anyone else? Is there any way to check if there is so kind of malicious program or something that was installed?
My xperia start up load time is aproximated to 3 minutes too.
Jep, same here. The OS is verry fast after the 3 min boot...
It takes a while to boot. Samsung I know have been targeting efforts to get the boot faster. Top of my head I remember them talking about trying to get the fastest boot time on the galaxy II.

I believe some Samsung and HTC phones are not actually "rebooting". They are going into some sort of hibernate.
My buddy has an HTC mytouch, and he was having crummy performance. I looked at his uptime, an it was over 1500 hours. I told him that's his problem, he should probably reboot.
When he did, I noticed it rebooted very fast. Performance was still in the crapper, and curiosity had ne check his uptime even tho it should have been reset after the reboot. It was still at over 1500 hrs. Then I realized it didn't actually reboot, just went into a hibernate explaininng the blistering fast reboot time.

WOW...so everyone else is having this issue as well? But it must have something to do with the amount of free storage on the phone, because when it was over 100MB it loaded up much quicker I've noticed.
Also on a side note, with respect to phones and hibernation...
My Desire HD has this issue. If you select "Shut Down" then it takes about all of 10 seconds to start back up. Yet if you select "Reboot" it takes almost as long as the Play. Clearly shut down is hibernation, especially since if applications have crashed or stopped working, shut down does absolutely nothing and thus I need to literally reboot to get them running again.
Finally, in my thinking there was something wrong with my Play, I formatted both the memory and the SD card. Can anyone confirm what was pre-installed on the SD card that I have lost? I noticed Crash Bandicoot was stored there but it can be re-downloaded simply by running the application. I know there are some sample pictures and music and possibly video as well, but anything important?

Samsung and HTC 'cheat' quite a bit when it comes to startup times. If you compare the time the Nexus One take with that of the Desire, the Desire is much faster, despite the hardware being the same. The same holds true with the Galaxy S and Nexus S.
From my experience with the Nexus S, I'd say the Play is VERY close to Stock Android 2.3.2. Sony Ericsson just added a few apps here and there and skinned the UI a little, but it feels, works and behaves a lot like the 2.3.2 on the Nexus S. Sooo... I'd say the long boot time is normal, and probably for the best for the device.
boot times are about 3 min as well.... however I find this to be a non-issue to me.
how often are you rebooting your phone though? Mine might go for weeks without being restarted... pending battery doesn't die on me of course

I noticed the boot times too, expecially since I don't really charge it much, I run it out and swap batteries as I have an excellent spare battery and charger also know as an x10 alway 3 minutes or so though, probably part due to drm checks, and part due to the storage almost full and it having to go through all the apps and initialize them.
To be honoust i have the phone for a few weeks now and only turned it off and then on for a few times. Boot time doesnt actually bother me.

Boot time

Hey guys I was wondering how long does your device to boot and which ROM you are using.
around 20-45 secs stock rom
about 10 seconds here, B137.
10s? no way except if you have it totally stock (no extra apps etc).

As far as i remember when i first got it the 1st reboot ( no i dont mean the first boot that it builds dalvik) took me about 40 secs but with no lags....

Slow startup after upgrade

Ever since the latest update (which I totally love), my phone takes over 4 minutes until the startup splash screen disappears, and then another 1.5 minutes until things are useable and not jittery. It used to take half as long before the update. Aside from the dreaded wipe and reinstall everything, is there any other solution? Is there a software that will log what is taking long during startup? My phone is not rooted.
Anyone else notice their startup time doubling?

If you're talking about sense 3 then yes. It is a heavy update and i believe heavier than previous sense that is why you're facing this problem. If you want speed, get custom sense roms...and you won't have this problem.
Official roms are full of junk, for people because not everyone uses everything so to provide every use of the device, official rom provides heck a lot of services, apps to the users but no one uses all of them that is why it takes time to load all of them when in custom roms, bloat is removed so that users can enjoy the speed.

I was really hoping to avoid a hard reset, and all the hours involved reinstalling the apps and changing app and system settings.

23 Minutes Boot Time !!!

Recently I updated my device but It took 23 minutes to boot (First Boot) !! It was 12:21 AM and It finished booting at 12:44 AM !! Is it normal or there's something wrong ??
I suggest full wipe ...

It's normal, it's rebuilding the Davlik cache. The more content and apps you have installed, the longer it will take.
It's a once only thing (at least until the OS changes, and then it may rebuild it again)
Yeah it's normal it happened to me the first time i put revolver on. Trust me I was freaking out
That's why it is recommended to always have full charge or AC adapter connected. Writing flash uses battery.
Thanks for sharing. I would've force rebooted it. Now I now I shouldn't!

It's an Android thing, and unlikely to change. It's compiling and optimizing apps so they launch quicker. Without it, things will be very pedestrian.

Yeah, but it does it on every reboot. My eeePad takes about 5 minutes to boot even if it's not the first boot. We used to have this problem back in the days of Android 1.x, but the CM team managed to find a workaround for CM7. Some manufacturers have included a similar workaround (HTC's 'quick boot' function on the Sensation comes to mind), but obviously not Asus. Hence my hope that CM9 and/or the Asus 4.0 update fix things

Then something is not right.
After a ROM install, mine takes about 10 minutes or so to boot, but it's once only. After than, it's int he region of 10 - 15 seconds from a cold boot to a working desktop.

I do not believe anybody's TF101 tablet starts up in 10-15 seconds. It's not even close to being ready to start at that point on stock, unrooted Honeycomb 3.2 firmware. Just tested my own tablet, which is close to as lightly-loaded on startup as you can get:
Slightly less than one second from the backlight turning on to the Asus logo appearing
Nine seconds from the backlight turning on to the "loading" circle animation appearing
77 seconds from the backlight turning on to the desktop appearing
90 seconds from the backlight turning on to my desktop widget being started up (ie. battery indication appears)
My desktop uses ADWLauncher EX, and has only one screen, one widget (TF battery widget), and the stock Asus (non-live) wallpaper. There is literally nothing else on the desktop, not even a single app icon.
My tablet has the following running at startup (bold are non-stock items):
* Lookout (2 processes, 1 service)
* Facebook (1 process, 1 service)
* TF battery widget (1 process, 1 service)
* com.asus.keyboard (1 process, 1 service)
* DMClient (1 process, 1 service)
* Google Services (1 process, 3 services)
* Maps (1 process, 1 service)
* MyNet (1 process, 2 services)
* Android keyboard (1 process, 1 service)
To those claiming their tablet boots in twenty seconds on stock firmware, I'm sorry, but I don't believe you. Post a video if you want to change my mind. My tablet couldn't start in twenty seconds (or even anything close to it), stock and straight out of the box without a single application installed.
Mine takes about 1 min on rooted stock 8.6.6.19
I *think* it is now longer than before, probably due to the amount of apps and widgets installed compared to before (although I try to keep as least as possible)
I have video to prove it, but I think it's a pretty normal time.
Will wipe and try revolver soon though!
Edit: it's a B70 SBK2
