I just flashed urban regeneration rom, and I restored a bunch of apps from titanium backup and almost all of them are force closing. What's going on!? It can't be data corruption. The rom is journaled!

sometimes restore app data across different "platforms" causes this jumping from GB to froyo backing up apps and data then restoring over and over again i learned this working my girls evo, theres a option in My backup Root for PM binaries that handles restoring better for things like this also for apps on sdcard
Wow, sorry that happened acer.

Like others have said, some apps don't like being restored across roms. To fix it I've had to delete the apps that FC, re-install them from the market (or wherever you got them), then restore just the data.
Hope that helps.
I was going through this with Acer on G-Talk. It was giving him all kinds of problems. Acer, are you all straightened out now? Restoring Gingerbread data on Froyo has given me more errors than almost anything in testing

Yeah I'm fine now. Lost some game data, but a lot of those games didn't require much progress. Some were just high scores

Had Same Issues here too, plus google errors popping up.
Erase everything in cwm backup that you have. Everything. Do the Normal 3x erase cache, data, etc 2
Then shut phone off.
Start up Odin....Make Sure You have the files you need..I Flashed both EH17 and EH17 Modem.
Once its done and loads up, do not sign in or do anything.
Shut Down and Flash the Rom of your Choice.
Then Once it starts up....sign in to apps, download backup app and reinstall.
This is What I had to do.
No Problems Since!!!!!!!!
Yeah, everything's working great so far other than some corrupted apps. Oh well.
One issue I have been having, and I'm not sure if it was Go Launcher, was when I tried turning on the screen, it would take a few seconds for it to go. I switched launchers and it seems to be working, but Go Launcher had been working at first too so idk.
Also, my phone only charges up to 97-98%. Not sure if that is suppose to happen, but it's definitely an annoyance since I feel like I'm losing 2-3% before even using my phone. Would calibrating solve this?
it is supposed to do that. prevents overcharging .

Yes, calibrating will fix that. You really need to do a factory data reset though and then redownload your apps. Don't restore data unless it was from before the FCs started.

So which is it? I'm guessing that calibrating will work then? As for restoring apps & data, almost all the apps worked flawlessly, it's just a few are corrupted. But I just reinstalled the ones that had issues from the market and they work fine.

When you calibrate your battery properly and reset the stats it will take the close to 4.2V of the fully charged battery as the 100% point. So you should see 100% again. Sometimes you may pull your charger off in the bottom of the cycle and see 97% but put it back on charge for about 20 minutes and it will be 100%. It cycles between 97 to 100% to keep from overcharging.

Hi all,
I'm going to install fresh's 3.2.0.0 for my EVO. I'm wondering if someone can confirm the steps below:
(currently rooted 2.1)
Backup via titanium
Nandroid Backup
Clear Cache(s)
Add Fresh3.2.0.0.zip from root of SD Card
download Titanium and reload my backup
I've done this with CM and it works great, but I don't understand the signed/unsigned portion and want to make sure I understand the steps for this ROM.
Thanks in advance
That's just about the gist of it, only thing you didn't specify is you will want to be sure and wipe data along with cache and dalvik
cool, thanks for the quick reply!
Any idea how many people experience slow data rates with 3.2.0.0? That's my only concern at this point. Everything else seems legit.
I have been using it for the past two days.great battery life so far.I put it on my wifes phone today and think it is best to reinstall the apps from scratch rather than use titanium.I has some issues with using the backed up data.

Thanks for the vote of confidence....all I did was install it. No apps, no tweaking, nothing.
You do know we're talking about Fresh 3.2 right? As in the donation only rom? Not 3.1.0.2 which I get just fine battery life out of.
It's a completely different kernal then the 3.1's. I have no justification for it, all I know is I had nothing on my phone, took a freaking shower and got my kids ready, got in my car and looked down to see the drain.

Ah well, I've never used those kernels. I always use netarchy. So, maybe I'm talking out of my ass but I'd still wager, a rewipe and reinstall might make a difference. I've just never had an issue with his Roms and it would shock me if he fell off like that all of a sudden.
OP, I haven't tried any of flipz's work on the EVO so I can't speak about it from experience.
All I can say is after much consideration I have officially become a fan of cyanogenmod. I do a lot of tweaking to get things the way I like but it's well worth the time and effort.
To anyone who doesn't get great battery life there are ways to identify rogue apps, don't want to derail the thread, but if you are sure you don't have any apps keeping your phone awake 100% of the time, and you're not spending a lot of "time without signal" and you still aren't getting great battery life then please do yourself the favor of using Juice Defender. I was reluctant to jump on the bandwagon but WOW. I consistent get 26+ hours on one charge. It basically DRASTICALLY reduces sleep time battery drain, which gives you more up time usage and lengthens the window of time before you have to recharge, and it does this without impacting performance. I'm sorry this sounds like a commercial for Latedroid but I'm just so amazed I can't help but mention it..

No, and I don't think he fell off either. He and his testers are getting day and a half batteries off the new Kernal. Like I said, I have no explanation, and it was not meant as a reason not to check it out.
I have no idea why, but my phone has seemed to be a quick battery drainer no matter what since the beginning. Should I be blaming my 002 build? Maybe.

Mine too, but i use it heavily... Leaving IM and such running etc.... But heres the thing, you should AT LEAST be able to get a very very good battery life when you are NOT using it.
If you can't charge your phone the night before, leave it unplugged overnight, and still have 85-95% in the morning, something is busted and you need to uber-wipe...or start running logs and figure out what is doing it....Make sure you have the latest recovery agent too, the earlier ones don't seem to be wiping cache correctly (leading to pri never getting updated, but that's for a different thread).
Really the reason people are excited about this rom/kernel is because battery drains slower even when you ARE using it. Light usage (not having an IM client running all the time) will yield you a solid day on this rom no question.
I got 12 hours of fairly heavy use yesterday and had about 15% left. I was using the latest Fresh 2.1 before with fresh-toast. I found with the 2.1 ROM and kernel, that ATK helped with battery life. I was also using Setcpu and slowing the processor down as the battery ran down.
With 3.2.0.0, I am not using ATK or Setcpu and got good battery life. I did a clean install of all apps and settings when I loaded the ROM. I think that using Titanium caused problems as some of the apps changed and the data that was saved did not play nicely with the updated apps.
I tried a rush job on my wife's phone and used the Titanium backup but ended up reinstalling everything cleanly on her phone because it was acting flaky.
Most of the time, when I have had really fast battery use, it is because some app is acting up and using a lot of CPU cycles or radio. I try to limit the number of apps on the phone to what I actually use to avoid problems.
you should be fine with that, but since it is a new release, i would limit the amount of backups you restore.

I used titanium after flashing 3.2 and had no problems. I only restore apps though, not data.
3.2 working great here, i'm at 14h 37m today with moderate usage and I leave FB, Twitter, News, Google etc... on to sync and also leave 4g on all day because I seem to be finding 4g all over the place lately. No complaints at all.
I have to say that I'm getting incredible battery life with this new ROM, and Pandora is back to sounding great too.
I had no problems with Titanium BK. I restored apps and data. Facebook was the only one I found that didn't come back. Had to d/l a version from market.
I was fully charged last night. Obviously it's just been sitting overnight, but I have news, FB, Twitter, and 2 mail programs on push. I'm at 50% at 12h 18m since unplugged.
So far great battery life!

Yes you should. The new kernel on Fresh has been yielding the best battery life out there, period. It's pretty unanimous.
those that have issues with Titanium back up I have posted several times what i do i have personally NEVER had an issue using it.
first if you are moving from an ASOP to sense or vice versus or from a 2.1 to sense and vice versus .. do not restore all system settings. I ussually dont recomend restoring all system settings unless you are restoring to the same rom.
you can normally restore apps + apps data though with out to many problems (the exception is setcpu if you have a kernel with diffrent oc settings).
So what i normally do is d a batch install all apps + data. I go in and uncheck setcpu. Restore all the apps. once that is finished i go to the back up and restore tab and go down and have it restore set cpu with out app data so that it will re-detect. i also have it restore my contacts and sms info from the settings files.
this will get you all your apps backed up contacts known wifi points and sms back with data. this procedure is a little more difficult then simply a single batch restore but it is much faster then reinstalling all apps manually or losing app data for those apps that need it.
sorry to simi hijack the thread but thought i would share my method. again i have not once had an issue using this method i also flash roms a LOT in my opinion.
So im starting to notice that basically on every rom i run after about a week or 2 its starts to get all crazy and laggy and i start getting fcs ill reflash then same thing a week or 2 and it goes crazy again is it just me ?
ever tried starting from a fresh, clean slate? Meaning, ODIN to stock ec05 then root and flash roms? This should take care of any problems
Lots of roms have disabled journaling. When you disable journaling, you gain a tiny bit of performance, but every time you shut down incorrectly or drop the phone and the battery pops out, you are corrupting the hell out of some data. I can only assume that that is what is happening to you.
1. i have odin bout 1000000 times lol so doubt its that.
2.i usually HAVE to pull the battery after the 2 weeks cause its starts being an ass but i never drop my phone hard enough to make it drop the battery
Download reEnable journaling from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1071723
Flash your rom.. Let it boot up... then boot back into clockwork and flash this.. no wipes necessary.. should help.

You ever turn the phone off and pull the battery for any reason? Has the battery left the phone for any reason at all? I have noticed that some newer roms vibrate when they are turned off, but they are really not off for like 30 seconds after the vibration. You can see this by opening up the phone and looking at the keyboard lights or looking really closely at the screen and seeing its not completely off. Pulling the battery for any reason before the phone is completely 100% turned off can lead to corruption.

I re-enabled journal and haven't had data corruption or force closes in over 2 months...unless I am beta testing something for a dev and its not quite right

yup, like I said, fresh ODIN of ec05 should do the trick. Then as others have said, enable journaling with whatever custom rom you slap on.
If you still have problems with f/c and lagging/freezing then you may have larger issues to attend to. I have been running custom roms with journaling disabled for the past 6 months and rarely have f/c problems.
Oh, and once you do get a fresh install of the rom you want, do a NAND backup immediately so you can restore to it if problems arise again.
If you don't use journaling, NEVER use the reset feature from the power button menu. Resetting and using utilities like Root Booter will cause data corruption and software rot.

And never pull the battery without waiting for the vibration. Also back up often in case of a freeze and battery pull.

People are so hung up on benchmark scores they lose sight of things like data loss on non-journaled roms. If I'm not mistaken if you make a backup with clockwork recovery and restore itit remounts with default mount options.

So I recently had three or more incidents when my phone froze and I had to do a battery pull. Both times, after a restart, my phone has been working normally, no signs of apps force closing, and all data and apps appear to be working.
I am currently running Frozen Syndicate Rom 1.1.0, stock vision kernel, on ext4 with journaling disabled.
Each time this happened, I was worried my phone wasn't going to boot up or would continuously force close. Is it rare or common for that to happen? or am I just getting lucky???

I was in the same boat as you when SFR first came out but it will progressively become more unstable. Just flash the journaling zip and hope that there isn't any corrupted data hiding.
A phone crash doesn't garuntee corruption without a journal, just a good chance. If its in the middle of a write operation or a commit then it will probably trash a lot of data

I'm on SRF 1.1.0 with the twilight kernel and every once in a while my phone will act up. I just choose reboot from the menu and everything is fine again for a few days.
I just flashed the journal on zip and have not noticed any performance decrease. Quadrant scores remain the same.
I don't see why people wouldn't do it. I'm very grateful the times I had to pull the battery out there were no corruption that resulted.

im not sure when this started but it seems like every rom, every kernal i use now my phone will close apps to a black screen and freeze up for different lengths of time. was doing it in stock, and now a custom rom. tried different kernals... seems to be worse when the phone first boots up. its almost like a force close but slower and i don't get the force close message. help
Edit: ok i brought up the ram manager and my ram would start around 250 and climb up before my eyes until the screen blacks out.... how do i figure out what is eating up the ram.. and why does it stop?

Quite often this is caused by restoring old data over a new rom using a program like titanium backup. Sometimes you can get away with it between similar roms but restoring Froyo data on to a gingerbread rom will almost always cause lots of FCs.

Isn't the spot right above the battery where the chip is located? Have you been overclocking your phone like I have at 1400 everyday? I was wondering if I have been flashing too much. Ummm, I am kind of at a loss here. You don't have any physical damage to your phone? No serious drops? You didn't go swimming with it in your pocket? But seriously, I run at 1400/100 on demand all of the time and that spot gets hot on Gingerbread ROMs but not on Froyo unless I run a lot of video at 1400 max.

When did you purchase your phone? did this start to happen after you started loading custom ROMs or since the start?
What is your current setup right now? Do you use RFS or EXT4?
What hacks have you loaded to your phone, and after what even that you performed on the phone did you start experiencing this issues?

i've had the phone for a year. i've been doign roms for at least 6 months.. this only started in the last month on both rfs and ext4. i don't know what i did that could have done this.. honestly i started noticing it when i odined back to EC05 a few weeks ago. then i did an rfs rom, then drockstars kernal, now srf 1.2 and tz kernal. just seems to be getting worse and worse. to be honest it may have started after i flashed back from eh22
Are you on TW4 Launcher? That can cause phone to freeze.

Don't use any CPU programs like setcpu, etc.. if not try wiping your sd card. Could just be your phone too.

I had this issue for a while and it caused me to leave to the iPhone, but now after months of waiting I am trying to bring my epic back
I will post my results I am going to try flashing back to stock and see it if can stay on for a day with out crashing....I'll be back with results in a day or 2
Mine does the same thing and it shuts off sometimes at 35% battery left. Just in the past month. Im stock not rooted. One more thing somedays i get 13 hrs of life and others like 6, same usage everyday and same area so service isnt the issue.

I had this same issue. I was to a point of chamging phones.
I decided to watch 5 different tutorials/youtibe videos on how to odin back to stock.
In that process, 3 of the videos had different options checked. Yes, I decided to try each way, restoring apps/data from Titanium, each time.
After the first 2 attempts, and still seeing the freezes, I started to get some kind of com.google.apps process force close errors.
I was really ready to beat my phone up at this point.
So, after deciding, I've had enough, I said I would do it ONE more time. (There was still one more checkbox that another video was showing...)

Sry, my fat fingers pressed submit.
Anyhow, Ive 0 programming experience so, all of this might kust be a lucky fluke. When I odin'd, I checked all three options. Re-Partition, Autoreboot, And F. Reset Time.
Only 1 video of the 4 I watched said to do this.
I then restored my apps and data back w/ Titanium.
I did make sure that any data from OEM apps, was not broight back, as a precaitonary on my part. It was really driving me nuts. Hope this helps....

crap well it wasn't TW4... uninstalled it last night. today rebooted and same thing.... its so strange it only happens the most after i reboot the phone. black screen with the status bar up top. if i touch the screen the button lights will come on ... if i swipe down the status bar it will eventually come down.. but with a ton of lag
i guess i'll nandroid backup and start from scratch with odin again. bone stock no root see what happens.
EDIT: just noticed that the modem seems to reset every time it does this. didn't see that before cause it doesn't always make the no signal sound. but the bars on the status screen go dark and the little x pops up above them before the home screen redraws. so basically whatever i'm doing goes to black screen.. times out for 10 min with just the bar on top, modem resets and goes back to the home screen
ok i brought up the ram manager and my ram would start around 250 and climb up before my eyes until the screen blacks out.... how do i figure out what is eating up the ram.. and why does it stop?
man this is nuts... i've got android system info running and i'm watching the processes tab... all the programs start usign memory, then android starts killing them off until they are almost all gone then i go to black screen... i dont' know what the hell is going on
edit: tasks is showing android.process.acore twice, package com.fede.launcher. both are using 34.89 MB and have cpu at 100... however total CPU usage is only showing 7%
My phone gets down to 70% after less than 2 hours. It used to take probably like 3 or 4 hours to get to 70%. But I've also looked at the battery status and it says "Android Core Apps" has used 33% after an hour and 47 minutes on the battery. Look at the screenshot I attached. Please help?!

I haven't had the core apps problem, but I've had play services drain my battery extremely fast. I signed out of my accounts and then readded them. It helped me before maybe it would help you.
Also did you do a dirty flash?

Idk if I wiped cache and dalvic but no I didn't restore anything from tb I restored apps from kies because I got the mf9 update from kies.
I wpuld suggest Backup your apps/data using mybackup. Redownload ROM, go into recovery, wipe /data /cache /dalvic, reflash, and restore apps (apks w/o data I get FCS fro, apk+data) and data. Should fix your battery problem.

I say go odin back to stock mf9 and check whether your phone still gets hot or anything and to let your battery sink in for awhile then root and install your rom. Before doing this back up apps and internal memory since it will wipe it clean.

Okay, and I also forgot to mention when I hold down the home button and it shows recent apps, there's some weird thing called "MIPerractivity" or something like that. I have no idea what that is..

Having the same problem here.
Any help appreciated.
Same, MF9 update from MDL stock, unrooted
I'm having the same issue (coming from MDL stock, unrooted).
Is it the ROM? Is it Google Play? I'm not sure anymore, but i'm severely annoyed.
I had this problem until
I was experiencing the same issue on my phone. note I'm stock and not rooted. Until I updated the samsung apps.
For some reason the samsung app store had an update and was constantly waking my phone for the update, but because I had never agreed to the TOS(becuase I never opened the app) it wouldn't update resulting in battery drain.
I stumbled on the answer in a forum in regards to the G Note II. I was skeptical as to why it wouldn;t show the samsung app as being the culprit(something about using the google services core functions to update), but I know that it worked.
I'm sure an experienced dev can better explain why it shows as android os and not the Samsung app causing the drain.
If you already removed/froze those apps though I suppose you have a different issue.

Just did that and I never opened the "Samsung Apps" app too and just got the update. Hopefully this will fix it (Google Play services drain). Thanks man!
Shut down
Battery out for 30 secs
Restart
Worked for me
You could try a different kernel too. I use AGAT's Kernel. That kernel gives me SO much more battery juice.
