I don't understand what's happened - my microSD card used to write at just over 6 MB/sec (it is class 6)
Since then, I haven't flashed any ROMs in months. However, I have just flashed a new ROM (Energy Android) and the speeds I am getting are pathetic. After writing to the SD card before and after flashing, from within the ROM, MAGLDR and Clockwork, I can't achieve write speeds greater than 1MB/sec. That's worse than a Class 2!
What's happened? What can I do to fix it?

Very simple my friend. With time and use(writing, overwriting etc) the sd card becomes less and less efficient.
What you need to do once every couple of months is a FULL FORMAT(not the quick one)
So Back up your entire contents of SD card in a folder on your PC and use PANASONIC SD CARD FORMATTER https://www.sdcard.org/consumers/formatter_3/eula
Then just do a Full (ERASE).. it'll be a while but your card will run like BRAND SPANKIN NEW!
I know its a pain in the ass to transfer it all back to the sd , but hey LIFE aint easy
I'm gonna have to do it too... mines slowing down again after a good few months just like yours.

Hi, I keep trying to do a full erase but it defaults back to Quick Format when I start. I am trying to do this whilst connected to the SD card through my phone. Do I need to do this with an SD card adapter?
If so, it'll be a while before I can get my hands on one

Hello,
maybe somebody have advice, or have the same problem.
Few days ago, my phone do not recognize my SD card (sandisk 8 GB SDHC ), I try everything, but unfortunatelly SD card died.
OK, I went to store and buy another one, this time Kingstone 8GB class 4.
And, this one last 4 days and now it dies too.
I noticed that they dies after flashing new ROM, when I run SPB full restore.
Some advice, help.....???
Thanks in advance.
Interesting. I have just had a 16gb card die on me - and I mean die completely. Previously I have had corruptions but they are normally recoverable with a reformat. This time the card might as well not exist - neither the HD2 nor the PC can even see it.
Most of my past problems with card corruption have been related to flashes and i have learned from bitter experience to remove the card while flashing. Having done all of this as normal, the card was fine for a couple of hours after flashing and then just died. As I had followed the process I put it down to bad luck and am looking to get a replacement.
I don't use backup and restore after flashing as i am normally moving to new versions of ROM and the risks of restoring to a different ROM far outweigh the benefits. So it won't be that, but I would be interested to know if there is a perception that card corruptions are becoming more common after flashing.
I do flash through USB and wonder if flashing straight from the card might be safer, but other than that, I can't see what more can be done to get around this issue.
Is the card also "dead" on a pc card reader?
You don't use card encryption on the phone, do you?
Can you change the SD Card in WP7 from a 4GB card to an 8GB or 16GB card without reformating the Phone.
Thanks

You can change it, but you'll lose everything you've installed and have an out the box phone so to speak.
Well at least that's what happened when I changed from my test SD card to my 8GB

I use SanDisk
no!!!will not read the new sd,you have to format the new one with the rom you are installing.
N.B: sandisk 8G is highly stable with wp7...
you can switch sd cards without starting over, but then you'd have to copy the partition from your old sd card to your new sd card.
it gets slightly complicated, but only because of the numbers of steps, not technical complications.
use Easeus partition software and try to replicate the exact partitions across the old card and the new card
good luck

Did this work for you? I made a thread about this possibility but nobody knew if it's really working.
Hey there,
my question is the other way. Is it possible to flash an other rom without having my SD in to safe settings and installed apps?
I tested this way:
1. turn off phone
2. pull out the SD
3. boot
My HD2 booted into WP7 and ran a blank WP7 such as it was fresh installed.
Then I turned it off and put the SD back in and booted. It booted into my ol status.
So no I want to if I can flash an other rom, put my already formatted SD with my WP7 settings back in? Is that maybe the best way to safe settings?

i think this link will explain you how to copy the partitions....and more
http://www.techienote.com/tag/technology
Thanks jianototi,
copying the wp7 partition between different sd cards works very well. The system accepts the copy and wp7 launches with all adjustments, downloads and installed apps.
My question now is: Can I reinstall a fresh wp7 nand and insert my sd from old installation? Will the sd be accepted? Or start wp7 with a virgin system?
regards
caiowa
so if we can move a wp7 from one sd card to another. Should it then not be possible to download from the internet, and just copy to sd-card?
Reason i ask is because i cannot get my wp7 to connnect to pc, so i cant get live services. However there seems to be a version now, where i just need to activate the phone.
If someone uploaded their data, can i download it, and update my wp7 that way?
yes put the new sdcard and restar to factory values

i was under the impression that it uses some sort of RAID over the card.
the best way to tell is to copy the card factory rest with one SD card, then swap the cards afterwards. Myguess is that it wont work the way you want it too, i doubt it will "give" you everything back on again.
ive had the HD2 w/ WP7 for about a month and have loved every bit of it. Today it was working fine, died while i was out and about so when i got home i put in my extra battery, but now it just keeps resetting itself over and over, i took out the SD card and it loaded fine except with none of my info... is there any solution besides flashing it again?
really nothing so far?
Best way in my opinion would be to backup all your sd, format and transfer it back on. If that doesnt work could be something on the sd conflicting with the boot process... just my two cence

i just dont get how it would be working fine, die, and then no longer function properly
first go and download easeus partion manager
http://www.partition-tool.com/
copy your old SD card, using this free software specifically the unpartitioned part from your SD card (the wp7 partition) and calculate the rest of the new SD card to be fat32 or 16.
use an SD card higher than 4GB, 8GB is good try to be sandisk CL4 less error with this type, not totally guarantied as per some users!!!
N.B: first charge your first battery, and try it before gg into this.if every thing is back to normal.it would be battery compatibly with wp7 or something...
and good luck!!! if problem persist you know what to do !!!!

alright thanks, im using the 16gig SD that T-Mobile gave me btw... im gonna start the process now, i got a feeling that my day is gonna end with a hard reset and having to go back and get all my damn apps haha. on the bright side i can do some extra tweaks that i didnt want to do before
alright now i feel stupid, i can not figure out how to copy the card,
I also cant access anything on the SD card, none of my pictures, or app data, is this normal?
yes normal, that's because only wp7 will read ur SD card,
when i asked to copy your card is to copy it through easeus and put it back in your wp7 hd2 to read it the new SD card
gd luck mate

after you downloaded the software, choose the partions it has to be two form your sd card.
one partitioned as fat16 small size and other unpartitioned big part.
choose one and a copy icon will be functional press it and follow the steps...
enjoy mate..
I have had the phone for about 3 weeks now, and updated to XWKE7 (stock) two days ago. This morning some apps/widgets were crashing, so I rebooted the phone. On media scan, I got this error.
Data encryption
Failed to mount SD card. Reinsert or format SD card
I haven't got another SD card or SD card reader on me at the moment, but has anyone seen anything like this? Could it be the firmware or a junk SD card? (32GB kingson class 4)
Looks like your sdcard maybe dying. Never seen the data encryption notice before either. Did you use some kind of encryption on your card?

I plugged it into windows, it displayed the "scan for errors" window, i did that, and all the files are found. Ill see if i can get away with not formatting it. I have tried other SD cards and they work (8GB though)

I got this SD card from clove. It is interesting because their website only has SANDISK 32GB micros (www.clove.co.uk/memory), but i got a KINGSTON and was charged the SANDISK price.
After the last boot, i went to task manager, and the only app that has run (at boot) is EncryptApp, cant see information online about what that does either.
Okay, I plugged it back into windows, and did a full check and repair, took about 30 minutes and now it works again. Seems odd that the card worked for 3 weeks, with heavy usage and dies just with the new firmware. Like it didn't unmount properly or something.
I have watched and read for some time here and been putting the android switch off because of time. Now I would like to try to run a build or two from my MicroSD. I have seen several places that a formatted SD is best. I have tons of WM's apps stored there so I reluctant to format over them.
I would like to be able to dual boot with my current WM6.5 and android.
I thought about getting a second Micro SD to mess with but if I had to swap sd card it would be a real pain. I have a Otter box for my HD2 and just getting the cover off to reset it is terrible.
Can I partition my Micro SD for wm and android? or does it have to be two cards?
Since you are staying with winmo and running android from SD, there's no need for partitioning the card,,, the android build simply lives in a folder called android on the SD card.
Partitioning the SD card is for nand android that uses apps2sd.
If you want to format the card,(or if you decide to partition) just copy everything off onto the PC, format (or partition) it, then copy everything back.
I have all my winmo files and folders still on my card, with no issues (running nand build with partitioned card,,, the android stuff and winmo stuff all sit quite happily together with no interference)
Samsamuel,
Thanks for the reply. That is good news. I know that the class of the card makes a different in performance but should I even try it on the class 2 16gb card what came with the phone?
I'm using a 7 or 8 year old 2gbsandisk, no idea what class it is but can't be that great, and I have no problems, no lags, nothing to indicate any performance issues.
