Mic and Brightness issues - Acer Iconia A500

Hey Everyone,
I'm running Taboonay 2.0 (with xoom wpa_supplicant & gps.conf patch applied) on a A501 and I have noticed a couple of issues.
1. Internal Microphone Gain level is quite low making voice recognition and recording unusable. I've tried various settings tools to see it could be increased but it seems to be at maximum already. The Mic opening is unobstructed.
2. Brightness control in both Auto and Manual setting is not functioning. I have confirmed that the light sensor is working ok.
I installed the custom ROM almost immediately after receiving the tablet, so I don't know if these things worked prior to the upgrade.
Faulty hardware or software (HC3.1 / 3.2) related.? Any suggestions. ?
Cheers,

Got the same issue with mic, my gf keeps complaining that she hardly hears me when we do gtalking (>.<) but when I did the voice to text and voice recognition, it was ok according to db
The brightness control is ok to me
hope someone'd come up with the solution for the mic

Are you running taboonay 2.0 also. ?

i used Xoom, Galaxy, etc. and now the new 3.2... they have the same issues >.<

I also have the same issues the mic is low and neither brightness settings work, I also didn't notice if they were ok before either, I hope someone can shed some light on this, or in this case dim it a bit

I ran Tobonay 2.0, and didn't notice an issue. But I can tell you, Auto-brightness seems to effect cooked roms. You'll see some variation.
If you're running a cooked rom, try flashing Thor's Kernel 3.5 or 3.9r3.
I ran 3.5 when running Taboonay 2.0 and the mic seemed fine with Skype. I never run auto brightness on the display though.
Harkon 1.0 with Thor's 3.9r3 seems to be ok. But then again, I use a set brightness. Mic is fine.

[Q] sound not working

My sound just recently stopped working randomly.
Can anyone help me with this problem?
1. Multiple ROM changes
2. Checked volumes
3. Plugged in headphones (this actually produces sound)
No headphones icon
Current rom: Flexreaper

Could be hardware problem.
Does volume control work with rocker switch?
You could pop the back off and check speaker connections, wires etc.
Use a magnifying glass to check. Especially contacts around headphone jack.
Maybe a little careful poking around with a pencil eraser while the tablet is playing sound.
Good Luck with your problem
Sounds like a hardware issue.
You could try rolling back to HC3 via TD's V.4
But probably a hardware issue.

Im having the same issue coming up from hc3 to the new ics slim on A500. sound was out before upgrade just went all of a sudden, has yet to return but head phone jack works fine. tried every thing too, want to isolate the chunk of programing that controls audio and flash random potential fixs in.
Sound pop/crack
I have installed pjsports version of Android 4.3 [CM10.2 Unofficial] Build 6 on my a500 tablet.
The sound works great until i put the tablet in sleep mode. After waking up the tablet the sound system is broken. The sound is coming out but every second I ear loud pop/cracking noise and the video (or application) slows down to a crawl.
Does anyone experience similar problems ?
I believe I have read that this happens when too many apps running in the background

[Q] CM10.2 Low Headphone Volume

I'm running the latest CM10.2 Nightly of the MicroSD on my Nook Color. I'm really liking it over CM9(what I had before) but I've run into one major issue, Headphone Volume. I opened up DSP Manager and and cranked the equalizer up in the Speaker category and my speaker got nice and loud, but when I try to do the same for the headphones nothing works. Changing the Headset category's equalizer has zero effect on anything, and changing the other categories didn't help either. I can't apply any audio affects to the headphone jack. I found this thread on the CM forums, but couldn't find any of the mentioned files or directories. I suspect things have been changed and moved around in Android 4.3. The only volume boosting method I've found that works is by playing the video/audio file in MX Player and use it to boost the volume, but that only helps marginally and is zero help in any other app.
Is there any way I can get this to work?
There is a thread over at http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/73393-low-headphone-volume-using-nightlies/ about your issue.
I couldn't get mine to work because I did not find the file mentioned in the post.

I already linked to that thread in my post and said that it didn't contain any answers for CM10.2. All the files mentioned in it don't exist in the latest 10.2 nightlies.

I'm running 10.2.1 stable on nook color and have the same problem but it also affects my internal speaker too. Only thing I've found that works is Volume+ 2.0. I had same problem with CM7 and their original version was the only fix that worked on that as well.
I really don't understand why we're not given direct access to set the max volume settings since this is a problem for some users in EVERY version of android. I get why but it should be available in the hidden dev settings with a warning that you can blow your speakers/headset up if not careful.
Anyway...you can get VolumePlus v2.0 from their website free. androidaudiohacks.com (first post, can't post links) Its a beta version and I've seen some bugs but it works to fix low volume on my NC running CM10.2.1. I know his original vol+ is in the app store but I'm not sure about v2. You need v2 for jellybean.
Just so you're aware, sometimes the boost and or EQ switches don't stay in the on position but they still seem to be working fine. Also the speaker boost settings seem to work on both my speaker and headset. So if you just try setting the HS settings and nothing happens try the speaker settings. Hope this helps some.

Sorry for the late reply. Thanks for the info. I had known about Volume+ but ignored it in this case because last I checked they couldn't get it working past Android 4.1. I'll try it later. Thanks for the help.

[Q] Low microphone volume

So after about an hour and a half of searching XDA and Google I have yet to find a resolution that doesn't involve me opening up my phone and cutting the rubber around my microphone. Allow me to explain.
Since I can remember - I got my S4 in December of last year - I've had problems with people hearing me, low record volumes and so on. I rooted and modded my phone almost immediately after receiving it and never really had the chance to test on stock TW, but this problem has persisted at *least* since I switched to KitKat about 2 months before it was pushed OTA via Carbon, Pac ROM, and Vanir. I have made it a regular habit of removing any DSP/preinstalled audio software and using Viper4A, but I was hoping to get some sort of lead before I flashed again, revert to stock TW, or took apart my phone. EDIT: I still have the exact same issue without V4A installed and using stock DSP/settings.
This problem was reported fairly commonly with the SII and the Nexus 4, but the methods I have tried to solve the situation (*#*#197328640#*#*; Trickster Mod, no physical blockage, mixer_paths.xml does not exist...) have yielded no results. I tested with TeamSpeak and Zello's outbound transmit volume and there's a dramatic difference, but how to adjust this on a system-wide level still eludes me. Google Now, Sound Recorder, SoundHound and other apps have difficulty with any sort of recognition even in ideal settings (eg. quiet environments). I had to virtually yell to set up Google Now's "Ok, Google" system-wide feature requiring me to hold the device at arm's length.
I'm posting because I haven't seen any issues of this nature reported for the S4. Could anyone point me in the right direction? Kernel tweaks? File modification I'm missing? Anything?
Bump. I still have not been able to find a resolution to this issue.

Very Low Mic Volume On Custom ROMs

So the problem is that no matter what custom ROM I use the mic volume is incredibly low. Talking on the phone I cannot be heard at all, if I put it on loudspeaker I can be heard faintly. Same problem for any app that uses the microphone, like sound recorder, recording a video, it barely picks up any sound.
But what's strange is that everything works perfectly on on Stock. I've installed custom ROMs on this before and last used cm10 before I upgraded way back. But now the problem also exists on that CM10 ROM. Any ideas how to fix it?
Additionally I've tried disabling the google now search listening (which fixed the same problem on my OPO) but does not work here. I've tried the following ROMs: CM10, CM11, CM12 all official nightlies and Crdroid 5.1.1.
Very frustrating as otherwise CM12 works perfectly and I intend to give this phone to someone!
So testing it further I found out that it works fine using google now and search. So either the internal microphone is disabled or maybe noise cancelling is messed up.

Call sound distorted, Cloudy & Dorimanx

People lately tell me, that my voice sounds distorted/echo/metallic when talking on Whatsapp or via the regular call app. That behavior ceases, when I press hands free button for a second for external speaker and press again, to use regular phone speaker.
So it seems, it's a software problem not hardware.
I checked in Dorimanx Kernel, there was a mic gain of 30 enabled. I switched that to 1. Also used Faux instead of Dorimanx Sound controls. Applied, rebooted, but no change.
Does anybody know, what else is could be? Or with what settings I could fiddle? Thanks guys!
Do you have the problem with stock kernel and/or rom?
I use this rom/kernel combination for ages... Didn't flash anything in over a year or so... But the sound distortion only seem to have started recently...
