Just got my iconia A500 very recently and stumbled upon this forum. I used the search function to see if this had been asked but didn't find anything - apologies if this is a duplicate.
I installed GrooveIP and it doesn't seem to work great. The call goes through fine and I can hear people perfectly, but everyone complains that my voice sounds "wonky" on their end and there's a pretty obvious lag. I've tested it out on multiple networks, including on a T3 network, so I don't think that's the problem. Anyone encounter something like this?
Thanks!
I have it installed and linked to my Google Voice and I cant make calls. I connect to my wifi @ home and nothing.

I've installed it and I could make calls but my tablet wouldn't receive calls.
I use the app and it works great for me. The developer web site has information on sound issues. I have also read the developer is good at getting back to the user if questions are asked. Give it a try.

This is the second time i've asked this question. I hope someone can assist me this time. I flashed the RoyalMIUI rom however couldn't get wifi calling to work. i know about the issue were is FC's when you first turn on wifi and you have to pull the battery out. but i've yet to see a real answer to the actual wifi calling. can someone please help!!!
thanks.
I think I read somewhere on that roms page that wifi calling doesn't work with that rom but I'm not sure

I appreciate the response from both of you. I just wanted to verify if it worked or not. The roms awesome other no wifi calling feather.
The rom has voip its build in gingerbread since gingerbread has built in sip intergration which is more of a true wifi calling. The wifi calling app for tmobile isn't really wifi calling.

ok cool. thanks. i'll try that. do you know of any issues with bluetooth? i normally sync my phone to my car (for obvious reasons). however, with this rom i did and i couldn't hear the person i was calling. i could answer but thats about it.

I not sure don't have a bluetooth headset to find out if it does work. Only thing is try a different kernel. See if bluetooth is working with out syncing with the car first.

I've searched everywhere for a solution to this, tried both the official Skype app and the modded one that supposedly allows more devices to video call and I just can't seem to get it working.
I have an i9023, and whenever I start a video call, I'll see myself for a few seconds and then it'll just go back to voice calls.
A lot of people seem to have this issue, is there any kind of workaround or solution that I haven't found yet? I'm using WiFi so its not a carrier issue.
Thanks in advance.
Using 9023 with stock ICS. Tried skype video a few times and it's working fine.

Hi all,
I am about to buy Tab2 7", just wanted to confirm how is the voice feature of the tab, havent seen any review on the same. Can we make GSM calls in the tab also is there any other tab that has the same feature.
Regards
UK
The P3100 version can make calls, send and receive sms just like normal phones.
The P3113 is a wifi only so you can use it to send txt and make calls as long as you're connected to wifi.

I have just unboxed mine and so far the first phone call was just normal, good sound quiality,so problems at all. I purchased the P3100 and as of now I am very, very happy with it,I think I am going to like a lot.
Something that I noticed with Gtalk is that I can make videocalls ,but when another Google user calls me I am not receiving the incoming call,so I can call but I can't receive. I am sure this is just a little issue that will be fixed or that I will be able to fix.
And like I said so far I am very happy with it.
-----UPDATE-----
Ok,so after playing with this toy I can see that the wifi signal is very weak, once I turn off or restart the device it does not reconnect to wifi,so I have to switch off the wifi feature and turn it back on.
Anybody has found a tweak or some sort of settings to improve that.

I face this issue (WiFi) only after updating to ICS 4.0.4
Great tablet worth every penny I have p3100 and it works great. some little problems (doesnt matter for me)
1. No usb charging
2. Overheating on 3G
3. Little bit less responsive touch
What do you do for the wifi signal? Samsung seems to be aware, but they are not of much help.
Hi everyone,
I'm N8013 owner, recently upgraded to 4.1.2 N8013BMA3 .
After the upgrade, Mobile VOIP not working anymore. It cause the tablet to hang then not working at all , till I press power button for 8 seconds.
It was working flawlessly with N8010 LK9, N8013 LK8 .

I use sipdroid and have not had any issues since upgrading to JB. If you look at customer comments on playstore, some are reporting problems when running JB.
Thanks.
But does Sipdroid support Lowrate voip accounts?

I'm not familiar with this particular VOIP service so I can't say. They do provide sip settings here http://www.lowratevoip.com/sip . You could try setting up sipdroid with those settings. You could also contact their customer service since their app is known to have issues with JB, maybe they can help you. Good luck.

I looked in one of the voip foruns that I read for info. Apparently, you can configure ATAs to use this service as well as other software, but you'll pay a higher rate. Their lower rate only applies to their app. I'd suggest that you try to contact their support staff. Issues with Jellybean have been reported on their Playstore page so maybe they can provide a solution. Here's the thread discussing their rates. http://forum.voxilla.com/threads/lowratevoip.14831/
Both grove ip and talkatone lock mine up. You have to use them twice in a row for it to happen
I had it installed on my SII running 4.1.2, and no issues at all.
However, I un installed mobile VOIP.
But today I got one hang up of the tablet.
Really I'm in love with this Firmware , and don't want to downgrade to LK8

Using the MagicJack app and it works *better* on 4.1.2 than it did on 4.0.4 or 4.1.1
Also having problems with GrooVe IP on 4.1.2:
When I placed a call: When the call connects, no one can hear me and I can't hear them. When I exit the app, the tablet can freeze and I have to reboot. When it didn't freeze, my microphone was screwed up and I had to reboot.
When someone called me: it didn't realize the phone was ringing.
I'm using a google voice number.

I just tried an app called Spare Phone. Same problems as with Groove IP.
I then installed the free Magic Jack app. I was able to make phone calls, but since it doesn't go through google voice, I couldn't receive them on my phone number.
Maybe it's a google voice problem?
Ooma HD and AT&T Call International both work...

It could be voice. It worked beautifully on 4.1.1 ... makes me sad in the pants. I love tapatalk. Ill try to uninstall and reinstall google voice with all new data and see if that helps
Update: well, no dice even with a new attached phone number and all new data with a fresh install. Even as we speak my heart is broken
I wrote to the Groove IP guys about the problem. This was my response:
"We don't have a Note 10.1, but we have tested with android 4.1.2. It sounds like something on the device isn't following the published android sdk. That's generally an issue in the rom, but sometimes we can work around those. It's possible the audio driver changed and maybe some different settings are required in the app. The best ones to start with would be Keep Screen Alive, Synchronize Voice, changing the mic buffer size, changing the mic source, or enabling WiFi tablet. I'd try those settings independently. Another thing to make sure would be the android advanced wifi settings. Make sure wifi optimization is off. And set wifi to stay connected always."
This is my first tablet and I know very little about Android. Does anyone think it's a ROM problem or could you suggest something for me to change?
All my other apps work fine. Until I run Groove IP, both my mic and speakers work fine; tablet does not hang or freeze. Before I upgraded I was on the samsung standard ROM using all default options/settings. My tablet worked great right out of the box. I just upgraded OTA when I was notified by samsung. With my first Groove IP problem, I uninstalled the app, rebooted the tablet and re-installed the app. No change. Still doesn't work.

The SGS3 and N2 are running the same SoC as the Note 10.1. I'd imagine Samsung reuses s/w components so that their common to more than one device. There are ten times more TW-equipped devices in the wild than AOSP. If Groove IP’s idea of testing is to throw it on AOSP and call it good they need to rethink their testing procedures. And you'd think if Samsung was using some drastically altered Wi-Fi stack that all VoIP apps would be affected, not just those we mentioned. So either there's something unique about the apps that don't work or the vendors of apps that do work are more diligent in their programming and testing to make sure their compatible with popular devices.

Yeah! Magic Jack worked fine for making calls. It didn't screw up my microphone, the audio was also fine and my tablet didn't freeze. I just couldn't receive calls because it doesn't work with a Google Voice phone number.
After I use Groove IP, the system standard voice input method (dictation) doesn't work. When I tap the mic, a voice says "I didn't get that" without even giving me a chance to say anything.
Here's my latest response from the Groove IP guys:
"We are quite interested in trying to resolve the issue. If it's something we can work around we will do that. As I mentioned currently we don't have a Note 10.1 but we are looking at buying one. Until then if none of the suggestions worked I can give you a version with logging. Unfortunately to get the logs you'll need a PC with the android sdk. Logcat isn't available from the device itself any longer with jelly bean."
I can't help with the log thing. I'm old now. and I decided not to get another PC because the Note does everything I need. I posted this here in case anyone with an android SDK (or doesn't mind install one) is interested in helping them. Regardless, sounds like they'll be getting a Note and hopefully the app will get fixed in a few months.
Anyway, if you're having problems, you may want to let them know. The app may get fixed faster if more people send them an e-mail. You can send a message with your problems to [email protected].
I have searched (there are a few threads pertaining to this, but no definitive answer pertaining to my only question)
Bought the wife an unlocked S8 from Samsung, everything works well on Verizon that is to be expected, EXCEPT video calling using Hangouts or Duo. I have changed the mobile data to LTE/CDMA from global but doesn't change anything. Everytime we try to video call, it never connects and something pops up mentioning an error with the network. Doesn't matter if on WiFi or 4G.
Can anyone confirm that ANY video calling with an unlocked S8 doesn't or does work on VZN?
Can anyone think of possible fixes?
Is my only option to follow the instructions on this thread? (https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/help/unlocked-galaxy-s8-samsung-flashing-t3669156)

I have read yesterday that a user had issues with Youtube, where the video would play for the first 5 to 6 seconds, then stop. The issue seems to be connected to network error of some sort. I am with T-Mobile using unlocked s8 and no issues at all with network or other apps that rely on data.

Whatever the problem is it has nothing to do with your carrier if it doesn't work on wifi as well. Also duo has nothing to do with any calling options as it's a purely internet service. I promise you if no s8s could watch internet videos at all someone would have noticed lol
This all likely indicates an issue with the phone, or with your home network and with your phone. Take it to where you got it or some other VZW help place and ask for help

Thanks guys, you got me thinking and tried a video call with WhatsApp, and it worked both on WiFi and 4G. So I think my question has been answered, but has led to other questions now, like why is Duo and Hangouts not working.... I've checked each permissions......anyway, I guess that is for another thread. Thanks for getting me here.
EDIT: her phone has always played YouTube videos and YouTube TV....in case anyone comes across this thread.

You're welcome
It's q/a section I don't see why we can't continue here....
Maybe try uninstalling and reinstalling them?
Also do you have another Google account to test with? If so try adding it to your phone (under settings -> accounts) and then login to duo/hangouts with that account and try.
Also how are you testing it? Video chat 1:1? hangout? If it's 1:1 direct, how are you initiating it? You call them or they call you?

So I figured why would WhatsApp video (yes, 1:1) work and not hangout/duo unless it's a different protocol...which led me to think what could be blocking one and not the other which made me think about about my ad-blocking app 'Block-this!' I turned that off and magically, Hangouts and Duo worked flawlessly.....ugh.
Gah, n00b mistake.
