Skype now supports video chat on Android, but..

It isn't available in the market any more on my Transformer, and it lists a very specific set of devices for said support. I wonder if there is a way someone can hack this into a working state?

LOL Skype doesn't support video call for android except for the Thunderbolt haha. And devs have been trying to port that over for months but unsuccessful so far.

No, there is an update today that changes the UI quite a bit and apparently adds video calling for the Nexus S, Desire S, Xperia neo and Xperia pro. I copied the apk over to my TF and it works, but no access to video calling functions. I am wondering if I can trick it somehow.

Holy ****... The OP is right.
Skype has been updated to version 2.0.0.45, which includes video calling for selected devices (Nexus S and several others). It's no longer visible on TF in the market, but I updated it on my Galaxy S. It works on SGS, much better interface but no video calling.
Haven't tried this apk on TF yet, and I really hope someone can do something with it.

Gotta remember here.... "Android" doesn't really mean "Every device that runs every version of Android".

I believe there are some hardware issues to be solved to support front camera video on every device, you can't do it globally in one go for every android.
It appears honeycomb support is dropped at all, maybe they release a seperate version.

That's very strange, because I can find it in the market even if a lot of people said that it is no more available... but when I try to install it is saying that it's impossible to install in my device.
Is it normal to find in the market apps that you can't install?

I think you are referring to the online market while the others used the market app...

I just downloaded the app to my desire S and video called my friend , the video was actually pretty impressive. it started off a little pixelated but about a minute it in its was very clear and very responsive. the call was made over wifi.

Would it not be possible to re-pack the apk with this edited somehow to include the transformer?

they have it working for the sgs2

ive never had success with apktool repacking apks. Always says install failed

i found a working version of skype 2.0 on the web but without video calls.
at least it has the updated ui and audio is working

Just a side question that I always want to ask.
How do you copy out the apk downloaded from the market your phone to the tablet?
(Like this Skype apk, its not longer visible for the tablet in the android market), but from your phone, you can download it from the market. Where its stored in the phone and how to copy it out?

if you install appinstaller from the market it has a backup feature that stores your selected .apk file on your sd card in a folder called back up i believe. I'm sure there will be other back up apps out there but this one has worked great for me in the past.

Just got notified of a new Skype version on my tab. Seems like maybe they've allowed Honeycomb installs... anybody tried it?

Problem with google search and playing videos
Hi! I want to report bug with google search app (GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk) on enabled tablet ui. I'm on m5 v2 build with latest camera + youtube fix with LCD Density set up to 128. When i press it, it fc. It doesn't work at all. And second bug, when i record video witch Camrecorder, i can't play it from gallery. First time when i press play button it shows error, i press ok, and when i press second time play, it runs, but only sound - video is full of artifacts. By the way, this rom is exelent! It runs perfectly! And I'm sorry for my bad english.

it is a known issue with the video as we dont have full hardware decoding so the workaround is mx player arm v7 codecs and set the encoding to software as for the search bar first time i hear about it i will try it out now

Hi this thread is a great Idea. I actually have a couple of questions
if I use youtube and camera fix from the third post, Youtube app will work properly and panorama mode in camera will work but I won't be able to record videos more than 30 secs right?
also what resolution does the video camera record in? and can I change it?

First no the camera will work as normal nothing will break and YouTube will continue and the camera records at 640x480

Thanx I applied it and testing it right now
there's no way yet the camera can record in HD right?

Its a hardware limitation the highest we can record is 800x480 and the devs are working on it

Huge Issue:
Sometimes (after a while of usage) my apps are not starting when i press their icons. The app drawer isnt working aswell then. The Icon just glows up, but nothing happens. I cant get into settings aswell. After this happens, my screen gets a SOD if i turn it off and want to wake up my device. Only solution for that: Pull out the battery or if there is no SOD yet, reboot the device.
This problem does NOT belong to the launcher, since i have tested apex, nova and trebuchet.
This problem does NOT belong to a specific a2sd script, since i have tested Link2sd and darktremor script.
This problem does NOT belong to a bad flash or sth like that, since i have made 3 installs from scratch for now (task29) and always had the same issue after a while.
My config:
Bootloader: Tested with clk and magldr
CWM: latest
ROM: [04-05-12][ROM] Unofficial AOKP for HD2 [Milestone 5 v2][HWA][4.0.4][tytung_HWA_r1]
Kernel: tytung_hwa_r1
This issue seems to be more rare since i have only heard of a few others having these issues.

but it didn't work in new milestone 5,but working in former aokps.

As this script doesn't cause low volume bug, it's my first choise for a2sd.
any suggestings?

I'm using ext4 1GB partition. The rom aswell as the scripts do support this type of ext-partition.

Guys I have tried 4 different a2sd scripts all messed up my phone the only thing I found working link2sd auto link move everything except dalvik no lags no nothing enjoy

Yesterday i rooted my SGY and instaled chainfire3d in purpose to play some hd games. I instaled the apk, used to correct plugins, reduced texture quality, nevertheless the games didn't work. Do i need to do something else? Like overclocking ? Help me please. Thanks.

No. It's all good. Most probably the game's apk file or data files are incorrect, due to which this problem is occurring.

And yes there may be problem with the apk and data that you are trying to use.

I'm trying to play Nova, GTA 3 and NSF Shift. May you guys thean please send me a tutorial that you've tested and it worked? For any of those games, so i can test it. Btw i'm using stock rom, all i did was root and install chainfire...

the games you requested require a more demanding hardware,
not yet capable for SGY

our SGY screen is not compatible with it.
try to resize all video to 320 x 240. it work with Ashpalt 5 :good:

Just found out how to make nova work: just delete the both .mp4 files in its data file. Still don't know how to make NSF work.

Guys, i just stumbled upon this cool app, and screenrecord works! It did not work on all the other apps i tried...
This app does not even require root. It utilizes the screenrecorder api which comes with lollipop, and some workaround idk, but it works!

All you need to do is download it from playstore(its free). And go to settings and change encoding engine to software.
And if you need to change settings, change it and close the app and remove it from recents and then reopen app and start recording(if yoy change and just record, it doesnt work).
The quality isnt great, buy atleast it works.

Even better. Now screen recording works with hardware encoding. This means all apps in play store can record natively using hardware.

I've been trying to get Evernote and Gmail to run in tablet mode for a few days with no avail.
I've tried Xposed app settings tweaks and a few other tablet-mode xposed mods which at most crashed the system UI.
Does anyone know a working way to accomplish that on the Note 4?

I'm trying to accomplish this on Firefox to force it in tablet mode. I have no problems on my Note3 to get it, but on Note4 it wont work. Did anyone get it to work and how?
Im on DR.Ketan ROM with multi DPI on note4 ... and on my note3 (which works great without any modifying) im using x-note ROM.

Use "App Settings" Xposed Module. You can change the DPI in a per app basis and force tablet ui mode too (touch "resolution" and apply the biggest one).

Yes, thats what i thought too but it didnt work on the note4 ... the largest resolution is 1000x1800 and it wont start in tablet mode, no matter what DPI i set.

Hi,
there is an app that I've used for it on my n910f.
UI Tuner (aka Window Manager) on Google Play:

It works like App settings. Go to menu in UI Tuner and select per app settings. From there you can choose the app you want to run tablet mode. Just type an lower density value and higher screen size. You can google for some tablet values.
More information you can find here on xda. Search for window manager.

It didn't work for me. Looks like there is no way to run firefox in tablet mode on note4 ...

Sorry mate. For other apps it worked for me. But Firefox app seems get some device information (assume from build.prop) to recognize which mode it should start, so it is no matter what dpi or screen size you have.

Probably In Xposed AppSettings it changes the DPI like it should, but firefox just doesnt recognize it. I cant get behind the logic of that, because on the Note3 the same version works excellent in tablet UI. Looks like i have to switch completely to the RAM eater chrome.
Ill ask it in the ROM section, maybe its something ROM related or the dev could help me out.

I found that setting the global DPI on my G4 with textdroider changed Firefox into tablet mode at a certain point (450 worked, with my device default being 640), but it doesn't work with App Settings.
My suggestion is to change your entire DPI to some smaller number with textdroider and adjust apps to a larger size as needed. Kinda annoying, but should do the trick.
