Hey Guys
I'm rooted and running RA recovery,
I was using Mik3D ROM for a while and
had it set to my liking, of course because
I have flashers OCD I decided to try different Roms
But I made a nand backup, after trying a few Roms that I did not like
I was able flash my nand backup back to my phone and all was good.
This last time I tried a Synergy RLS1, ( not the god mode )
and now I get errors when I do a data wipe, and dalvik cache wipe.
and when I try and do a nand backup of my Mik3d rom, I get an error and it stops, at about 75%
any ideas
these are some of the errors going by memory
error dev/block/mmcblkop2 and mmcblko
error mounting sd-ext/dalvik-cache
I tried to take my nand backup and copy it to a new sd card
in case my sd card became corrupt, it does flash all the way,
but when the phone starts I have just a blank wallpaper screen
with out the lock ring, and no way to use anything
Thanks guys
I've been having trouble with recoveries too. For some reason I can restore with clockwork but not amon-ra, and flash with amon-ra and not clockwork(clockwork doesn't seem to wipe as well as amon-ra). I tried teamwins recovery and couldn't do a restore on that either. I'm not sure what's going on.
We're comin from a pure power source.
Yea the weird thing is I was able to do about 3 nand restores with RA recovery, but after installing Synergy, I was no longer able 2, all I get is errors.
I just installed clockwork recovery to see if I can restore my nand.
mmm....
I never had that issue and I flashed a several roms, but thanks for addressing it, that gives me alot to consider.
Try reinstalling latest anon ra recovery.

OK guys
I got the old nandroid backups to finally work.
I used VR superwipe, and then did a sd-ext repair via recovery
and its all good.
hope this helps others, I think the sd-ext is getting corrupt.
if this helps hit the thanks button, I don't seem to have any, feeling left out lol!

Is what clockwork recovery tells me. Last night flashed fresh Rom without a hitch. Today I run a nand backup before flashing a new kernel, nand worked find (besides at the end it said can't find sd - ext) but now I can't wipe or flash anything. Any ideas? Just states the title.

this is why you dont work clockwork.
now flash your phone with Amon Ra and be a happy Root user!
Try clearing your cache, mine was giving me grief too until I did that. Then I switched to Amon's.
Ok so I originally rooted my phone and put Fresh ROM on it, there was a little hiccup in the install but I didnt really think much of it, recently when I tried to flash a new ROM (I tried multiple ones just to be sure it wasn't the rom) but whenever I try to flash the ROM (using clockworkmod from recovery mode) it will say the install was successful but when I reboot it will do one of two things: stay on the "HTC EVO 4G" startup screen or continue to turn off and on like its in a bootloop. Does anyone have any ideas whats happening and what I should do? I have tried clearing/wiping all of the options that are available in clockworkmod and even tried using a new SD Card but it still does the same thing

Hi there. First off, I need a little more info, like which rom you are trying to flash right now. Also, what radio's and pri do you currently have?(menu>settings>about phone>software info, radio is baseband) If you have the older radio and PRI, (same as the ones in my sig), and you are flashing to a 3.70 software ROM, which most likely you are, you will need to either flash a custom kernel, while in recovery, just after flashing the rom (before you boot). Or upgrade your radios. If you have already updated your radios, and you're still experiencing this, I would first and foremost, switch to Amon Ra recovery (which version of clockwork are you on, btw?). The easiest way to switch to Amon Ra, is to get Rom Manager from the market. Use rom manager to "flash clockworkmod reocovery" (even though you already have clockwork, do this) Then scroll down, and you'll see "flash alternate recovery". Select that, and let it flash Amon Ra for you. Shut the phone down, and manually boot into recovery (vol down+power). Use amon's recovery to do a full wipe, (data, cache, davlik cache x3) Then flash calkulin's format all.zip. That will ensure a good wipe. Then follow my above mentioned instructions, and try again. That should work. If it doesn't, report what the exact errors are here. Good luck
Maybe this is a stupid question, but are you able to nand restore to a rom where your phone will actually boot up?
Calkulin format all zip is your best bet. It will wipe your system data, data, cache and dalvik cache. A full purge.
Just have a good zip like chris sprint lovers rom. And better yet a PC36100.zip from chris all in one update thread.

Here's a few suggestion:
Change your radio version - Some kernels don't work right with the newest, and some don't work right with older ones.
Change your kernel - This is always the best suggestion IMO. For a sense based ROM run one of netarchy's latest kernels. Often a bootloop is because of a kernel/radio issue.
Plus with netarchy and setcpu you'll get some wicked battery life.
Try wiping everything, and then try again. Also try flashing a different rom
having issues flashing myn rom
have 3.7 evo rooted unrevoked3/kernel 15
when i try to flash from clockwork mod it just blinks right quick but doesn't do anything.. all the things are up to date .. can anyone help?
when i flashed amon ra and flashed rom.. it says E: can't find update script..
i dl rom manager and did the alt recovery to amon ra. it still won't flash the rom.. but now i have another problem.. my sd card clockwork back up is not there... and now i can't restore to previous state. i can't get to the regular phone interface. what can i do to restore?
I'm having some issues with Fresh ROM 3.5.0.1 and doing Nandroid backups. Simply put, they NEVER WORK.
I have RA recovery and no matter what I do, no matter how many times I backup (Nandroid), no matter what version of RA Recovery I use, nothing works.
Basically what happens is that I do the Nandroid restore and then my phone just boot loops until I pull the battery. The only fix I've found is to wipe the phone and re-install completely fresh, all new. I've tried downloading Fresh ROM a few times too.
I've done this at least a dozen times, Nandroid backups NEVER work.
What exactly am I missing here?
On a side note, if I go to an older version of Fresh Rom, Nandroid backups work.
what version RA?
do clockwork backups work?
I don't like Clockworks, I've always used RA's Recovery.
That said, any version of RA. 1.80, 2.1, 2.2, the new 2.3, all of them. I thought the issue was something to do with 2.2 or 2.3 so I downgraded back to 1.80 and I still have this issue.
Finally I figured out that Fresh Rom 3.5.0.1 was the common factor so I re-downloaded that and checked the hash, it's right so its not corrupted, reflashed, made a Nandroid, restored and poof I'm still boot looping.
The reason this is an issue is that Fresh is my daily Rom and I like to try other roms out then Nandroid back to Fresh but since 3.5.0.1, I can't.
On a side note, completely unrelated, CM7 Nightly with the google apps installed boot loops for me too right out of the box so to speak. Soon as I install the Google Apps zip, it boot loops too! Man, I'm having no luck over here!
have you tried a different sd card?
I'm not personally good enough at this to help you, but perhaps state your hardware version and your root method and see if this might lead to some answers? For the record, I have hardware 0003, I used unrevoked, and I was running the same version of Fresh that you were.
Also, I *think* I did my first Nandroid, but I've only ever backed up/restored from Clockwork. I use Clockwork now because it ties in with Rom Manager. I can confirm that clockwork + fresh 3.5.0.1 had a successful nandroid backup and restore on my phone. Maybe try installing Clockwork recovery, make a nandroid, see if it works, and narrow down your problem to maybe just RA not working with your setup somehow? Granted it'd be nice if you could use the recovery that you want to, but at least you'd have some semblance of a backup procedure.
[also]..... I *think* that RA makes a recovery folder called "nandroid" on the SD card, whereas Clockwork makes one called "clockwork/backups".... I remember this confusing me for a second, and I'm not sure if that information can help you in any way. Good luck man!
Not the only victim, happens to me too that's why I don't use nandroid on amon ra recovery, I like using clockworks back up

So, I'm a bit new around here and to rooting and flashing roms. I recently have been flashing rooms directly from rom manager. Everything was fine for weeks until I recentely tried flashing a rom by RVU. Now I'm stuck in the stock evo 4 g load screen and it keeps loading over and over. Any suggestions ? Is there away back into the boot loader ?

To get back to the bootloader, you'd need to pull the battery (won't hurt anything) and put it back in. Then hold the power button and volume down. That will get you to the bootloader
What do you mean you tried flashing a rom by RVU? I'm confused. RUU is rom utility update, or rom update utility, or something ike that. But if you ran an RUU it would put you back to completely stock.
If I were you, and in your situation, I'd pull the battery, boot to bootloader, and see if you can still get to your recovery. If you can, I'd try wiping everything then either restoring a nandroid backup if you have one, or a fresh install of a ROM. If you don't have recovery, post back and we'll see what needs to happen to get you back up again.
Well, the rom I flashed was created by team RVU....at least that's what it said. So, I made it as far as recovery. But by wipe you mean a wipe back to stock? I'm in as far as my clockwork mod recovery screen. Kinda lost now !!

Okay I gotchya now, although I don't think I've been informed of RVU before, I'll have to check it out. Anyways, thats good that you can still get to recovery. So you have never used it before? Just did everything from ROM manager before huh? I'm not familiar with clockwork recovery, as I use Amon, I'm trying to remember the little differences. First, you don't have any nandroid backups do you? Prob not if you're not familiar with clockwork and had never created a nandroid backup before! I'm not sure if backups made with ROM manager can be restored using CWM, doubtful though. So by wipe, I mean wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, and wipe davlik cache. You will need to have a ROM on your sd card, so that you can install it from recovery. In order to wipe the dalvik cache using clockwork, i believe it is under the advanced section. Not sure though. Once you have everything wiped, and the ROM of your choice on the main directory of your sd card, choose 'flash zip from sd card' or 'install zip from sd card" or something to that nature, then find the ROM and flash it. If all goes well, you should be able to boot up after that. If you do indeed happen to have a nandroid backup, choose to restore that.
Yup, everything I've done has been through rom manager. Anywho, I peeked around inside some files. Inside my install zip from sd. I found a file labeled nandroid. Could that be the backup that your referring too ? If so, would i still have to wipe my phone ?

Nandroid folder is for amon RA backups. Clockwork backups are in the clockwork/backup folder.
Have you backed up your previous install? If so wipe all factory reset then restore a backup. Otherwise wipe all and flash a new rom.
This is why you do research and learn how to properly use your phone and any custom recovery before you reach this step. This is why manufacturers have crappy warranty policies because people ruin their phones by being stupid.

Thank for lending a hand. Instead of trial and error, I simply started a thread. Oh, and thanks for reminding me I'm stupid!!!
I have looked and done searches for this problem with no matches. Phone stuck in bootloop after battery died. Pulled battery and went to recovery, tried to restore after wiping showed error message for data wipe
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1.
(file exists)
When I tried to restore the attached results show up on the screen.
Any help with this situation would be greatly appreciated.
Try installing another rom. If that doesn't work, try flashing a new clockworkmod version.
Yes, I have tried three different roms and flashing a different recovery with the same type of results. The problem seems to be with data. Everything I try to do including wiping data ends up in an error message.
Hmm. Then you might try going back to stock from hboot and rerooting
Is sd full, or nearly full?

Id start with the newest version of clockworkmod and an new SD card.
Unrooted using the RUU with reverted HTC drivers. Process seemed to go fine but when it reboots it gets stuck in a bootloop with original droid bootscreen. I still have s-off and am wary of removing for fear of being stuck.
You could try flashing super vr wipe and do it that way.
sounds like the sdcard isn't mounting. i would back up the sdcard then reformat it and try again. or try another sdcard if you have one handy i usually keep a spare around just in case.
Look up five vibe fix ...

This kind of thing frightens me to death about flashing a new ROM. I'm dying to get that 2.3 ROM that just posed but I'm afraid of bootloops, whitescreens and error messages etc.
It's really not that bad, as long as you dont touch it while its doing it's thing it works great. I just installed Ovo Community Mod Test RC5 and it is SICK!
You need to update your hboot to .92 first though.

Sounds like something isn't mounting, but I'm not sure if it's the SDcard. Those directories are on eMMC, aren't they? Not sure if this would help, but I'd check to see if it's mounted as read/write. Looks like it's read only.

Dude, use Doug Piston's ROM Flashing Tutorial, here. It's easy.
After the screen shot showing Wiping Cache, also do:
Mounts and Storage - format /system, format /data, format /boot
Advanced - Wipe Dalvik
Then resume at the Install zip from SD Card screen shot...

I followed those directions and flashed the new 2.3.4 without any issues. I was originally on 2.2 rooted with unrevoked3
Much bigger problem. Now that I have run the RUU I no longer have clockwork recovery and cannot flash anything. When I reboot I get the droid bootscreen in bootloop. Frustration!
Have you tried just booting with the sd card removed? Issues with the sd card can stop it from booting
Also if you flashed the RUU your unrooted therefore have no cm recovery. You will need to root again for that.
Yes recovery was gone, attempted to flash clockwork again. When booting into recovery strange bar appeared and screen went black. After several tries with same results flashed Amon ra style recovery and now have this recovery but am still getting bootloops when flashing and having same E: can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (file exisits) error messages. Confident there is a solution but have no idea how to get there. Determined though! Any help is greatly appreciated.
It is saying read only file system . E:Error in CACHE:recovery/log
This is at the bottom of the recovery screen.
Ok, I've said this a few times on here, but I don't see were you've mentioned that you've tried it. Remove your SD card and see if it boots!
