This could actually help others for I have read many threads and still don't have a clear HOW TO.
The Thread are for Elfs....from reading threads I GUESS I have an Elf(in)....My Box Reads:
HTC Touch [ROM: 256MB; SDRAM: 128MB DDR]
This is a Rogers branded Touch, grayish color. OS is Windows 6 Professional.
Now I have done some registry hacks, shut off animation and sounds (from TouchFlo too) and the Touch is far better than before, but I still find it somewhat laggy, when flipping through apps, eventhough I have the Task Manager off.
After reading many threads I have two routes that I would like help with:
- Being an Avid Palm programmer, who've done it all, including bricking one (lol), I know for a fact that a fresh, light ROM improves performance and makes the unit much zippier. So which ROM would be the best for me? There are so many around and i dunno which is best for my unit.
- Second, Should I just do the Windows Mobile 6.1 upgrade, and ride off into the sunset? will it make the unit much better than a custom ROM (i doubt it)...atleast the question is out here.
Lastly, I mainly use the Touch for checking emails, browsing on Wi-fi as well as my network providers'. I use the mobile office a lot, and the messenger as well. For internet browsing I use Netfront, but hope to compare it to the new IE. My aftermarket apps are: SPB Mobile Shell 2.0, Pocket CM, PCM Keyboard, SIP Change, and Advanced Config.
Hope this helps the more experienced members lend me a hand.
Cheers,
Paul
yes!! you should do a rom upfgrade my advice for you is to go with the swiftblades vblue elves rom on the upgrading thread on this great site its very easy for new comers to update their rom using this rom ...its a custom wm6.1 rom ~ so you can ride off into the sunset in style~ and yea 6.1 is alot better than 6,0 its got a threaded sms and it fixes the memory leak...
oh and if you have just post a reply on the forum you got the rom froum usually swiftblade himself will help who ever is having trouble and if he doesnt theres alot of other xda brothers and sisters that will help assist you were like a family here dont be affraid to ask questions theres no stupid questions just stupid people!!!! oh and stupid answers!! ~
and here you go i will help you out with the rom updating process it is very simple but worry some... the reason im saying use blue elves is because it has a cid unlocker built into the package... and it has very clear instructions!!!
FOR FIRST TIME CUSTOM ROM UPGRADERS:
1. Copy the Cert_SPCS.CAB and EnableRapi.CAB from the zip folder to your device's Storage Card.(###*** you dont have to do this step if you have allready used the sim unlocker program!!***###)
2. Install the two cabs to your Device memory and do a soft reset.
3. Restart your PC or laptop (Optional)
USING THE INTEGRATED ROM UPDATE UTILITY WITH USPL CID UNLOCKER:
(ATTENTION: REMOVE YOUR 4GB, 6GB or 8GB mircoSDHC CARD WHEN FLASHING THIS ROM!)
1. Turn off your computer's Anti-Virus software if you can. ( not nescary )
2. Activesync your device to your PC using USB port.
3. When the connection is completed (after synchronisation), double-click on [START] batch file to begin the integrated ROM Updating Utility.
4. Now follow closely the instructions that appear on the computer screen.
5. Press [ENTER] to accept at each prompt to continue the process.
6. After Step 2/3 of USPL CID Unlocker, the device screen will turns "blank white" and your activesync icon gray (in Windows XP only).
Congratulations! You have successfully CID unlocked your device. Press [ENTER] to proceed NOW!
(NB: If you failed to see the "blank white" screen, then your CID unlocking has failed.
Restart your installation process from Step No.1)
(####**** now dont panic if you dont get the white screen just soft reset your device sticking the tip of your styulus in the hole to the right of the usb port... then you may get the tri color loader dont panic just soft reset again then you may get a screen that will prompt you on a few things ###***your screen will not respond.... this is when you remember you have HARD KEYS!!!!! youll need to use them in this if you get it***### dont panic yet just continue pmce your started again set up active sync and start your process all over again!!! your phone shouldnt be bricked
7. Your device will now proceed to update your rom. Select and hit [NEXT] at each prompt to continue.
8. When the rom updating is completed at 100%, your device will restart automatically.
9. Congratz! You have successfully upgraded to a new rom.
Enjoy & Lots of Have Fun!
(((####****and remember this is why you DIDNT BUY AN IPHONE!!! ****####)))
Thank you very much Bereda, and thanks for such a warm welcome. My next question is....which of all the ROMS is the one that I want? I see several versions and only one says Touch on it, the rest say Elf, Elf(in), etc. Mine on the box says Touch, but in here it seems that the Elf is also the Touch, a bit confused...
Cheers,
Paul
i also recomand this rom.
I will go ahead and give it a go, as soon as I know which is the best ROM for my Equipment.
Thanks OmerS,
Paul

I have no idea what I am doing. LOL. Why would I do a Rom upgrade??? And secondly where can I upgrade to WM 6.1. I have the HTC Touch..Please help!!!
AfflictedSatisfaction5, Welcome to the Club. A clean ROM eliminates many apps that one rarely uses, that consumes memory and normally are replaced by other third party apps. In General, a modified ROM runs quicker and better than the OE ROM.
You can find the WM 6.1 upgrade on the Microsoft Windows Mobile Site and take it from there OR Get a custom ROM with WM 6.1 already there.
I am just waiting to see which ROM is the one for my phone, since there are several variants of internal ROM memory (64, 128, 256, etc).
Cheers,
Paul
If you have a Rogers branded HTC Touch, BEFORE you do anything, try to dump your ROM. (Read around, you'll find how to do it). The community, including myself, been struggling with this for months. Thanks.
Evilmonkey...will search for ROM dumping...by the way, it IS a Rogers Branded HTC....BUT...my phone will not be used for Rogers network, but for a latin american company called Viva.
Cheers,
Paul
after u dump backup ur current rom.. i suggest u make up ur mind what u want for instance, there are many many variants of touch roms around here ranging from bare naked clean bases to fat boy mem hogging bloated ones.. u can check my thread for a clean base rom or try kokotas's new rom (its fresh) blue elves and shadow ce takes the cake like always
happy flashing
i didn't dump my rom and i have a rogers htc touch aka htc elfin... not elf so paul you have a elfin... and trust me stick with the custom roms theres no need to dump your rom due to the fact that theres like 20 of the "rogers" rom on here already just download a copy of it and your set... thats if you want to step backwards and go back to stock...if you get a stripped down rom from the windows mobile website you loose out on all the features that make this phone a touch and a iphone killer... i think its wrong to take out the cube and other programs that are made for the touch! these programs are why you bought a touch in the first place... its like buying a Lamborghini and taking the five speed and the v12 out of the car and replacing it with a automatic transmission and putting in a little 1.8 litter v4... like what would be the point of buying a Lamborghini if your going to make it just like all the other economy cars... plus you could have saved your self a ton of time and just bought a 318i bmw... and for the people that do strip it down to nothing, why didnt you just buy the htc p3300 plain and simple htc ppc like all the rest.

instead of making judgements, i suggest you read the specifications and reasons mentioned by the great rom builders of xda in their threads why they have striped down their roms. people may buy touch so they can get a faster 201mhz device at economy prices

i dont know anything in detail about cars but i'll still add my 2 cents. its more like buying a lamborghini and heavily tweaking it by stripping the parts and adding some, removing some and building a entirely new car out of that to suite each one's individual likes and dislikes. having done that you get a personalised car designed by your own hands and will n wish
for the people that do strip it down to nothing, why didnt you just buy the htc p3300 plain and simple htc ppc like all the rest

two words for that one "MORE SPEED" i suggest you take a look at this http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=pdacomparer&id1=619&id2=947 and you'll find the answer why we dont buy p3300 against a touch. its good to retain the looks of the touch and have more speed like dual and more options for functionality as per our likes n dislikes
hope paul finds what he is looking out for. i personally dont advice and support picking up a rom from an expert and editing it to your tune. either use it as is or build your own rom happy cooking or flashing
Ha ha ha ha ha, thanks Bereda and thanks Ababrekar, and please...be nice
Bereda: Thanks for the explanation NOW i know my is an "ELFin", LOL, only knew it as a Touch. Thanks also for the tip...so I shouldn't dump it, i don't have a lot of things on my phone....3 weeks old so..... the personal data or course is backed up.
Ababrekar: Thanks for the encouragement pal... Like Bereda said, I'd like the HTC pack that is offered on the Blue Elves ROM, plus if you read my initial post.. most of the apps i used (SIP Change, PCM keyboard, etc) are already in that ROM so....
I take it this is the ROM I want....right? :

Paul, it's okay that its from Latin America, as long as the phone says rogers. Thanks.
evilmonkey1987... umm im not sure but i think that flashing will void warentee iwith any rom even plain wm6.1 because the elf and the elfin and the voque(sprint version of elfin) are all standerd

1. connect using active sync (after youv flashed the new rom of course )
2.remove sim and sd card
3. locate elf uspl and open it it will bring you to a dos screen *(windows command screen)*
4.press enter continue until you get to step 2/3 press enter then your elfs screen will turn white just like when your flashing the rom then !!!!!!STOPPPP!!!!!!! do not continue to press enter make sure your screen is white!!!!
(####****if your screen doesnt turn white start proicess again****###)
5. open up the radio folder while still keeping the dos screen up
6. youll find a operation call ruu which stands for rom update utility start that
7. follow the on screen steps and it will work fine
8 enjoy
*****#### in bothe the uspl unlocker and in the start batch file it will say elf... dont panic you have the RIGHT!!! FILE AND OPERATION....####****
Will do it tonight, btw.....STUPID QUESTION NO.1:

I am a MOD at a blackberry hybrid site where I used to build hybrid operating systems for blackberry devices. This winmo stuff is like "greek" to me. I don't see a point in a custom ROM here for anything more than looks and a few tweaks that I can do on my own.
Are there leaks with ROMs frequently like there is with blackberry?
Would you suggest a Droid ROM or winmo? and why?
Droid ROMs can be fully loaded to a winmo device correct? Why not if you wipe the device and reload it?
Lastly, I constantly am getting the user name and password pop up for my yahoo email, but I keep entering it and clicking save but it never does. Why?
I forgot to mention that I have switched and now have the HTC HD2 and love it!
Cant really beat the HD2 IMO
anyway,
People cook their own ROM's for there needs, jazz them up a bit make them look pretty, update to the latest versions of the software and apps, take apps out to save space so you can install on the sd card, cooked ROM's are more stable faster, look better, check out the ROM thread once you flash you'll never go back stock.
Droid or Winmo, lol you got no choice mate!! (on the hd2 anyway)
email, I set mine up with .co.uk instead of .com once and it for ever asked me for user-name and password till i twigged on.

Ok, so nothing like building a Blackberry OS. I meshed and played with 1300 files to make a faster smoother operating system. Looks had nothing to do with it. I see that I will stay stock. I can delete my own apps and tweak my own reg files.
Thanks

Thats exactly what ROM-Cooking for WinMo is about as well (apart from the tweaking and optical stuff). And besides that, the cooks often have builds of SoftwareElements that havent been released yet.

Amen to that.
I've had my HD2 for about 6 months now and it is my first WM device, when I first got it I thought the same as you, couldnt see what all the fuss was about with custom roms.
I'm still on a stock rom just now but the more I read on here the more I'm getting the itch to flash a custom rom, I'm putting it off though because I know that once I try one I wont be able to stop myself.........
Trust me you'll get the itch sooner or later.........
I went custom about 2 months ago and I have to say I honestly have not had to reboot the phone at all whereas on the original stock ROM the phone would lockup and freeze almost daily!!!
ALL HAIL THE MASTERCHEFS!!!!!!
NOOB - T-Mobile UK HD2 unlocked - no O2 connection..
Mong, sorry really long day......
Hey dubie,
As a lot of other people have put it, cooked roms are generally of a better quality than the stock roms. However they are still winmo roms so dont expect them to be as stable as their less customisable rivals. But thats just the small price you pay for a far better overall operating system.
Going back to your some of your other questions.
Currently it is not possible to run Android on the HD2, however there is a group of people feverishly working to try and fix this situation, I would like to see this done, but I am quite sure I would stick with winmo as my main os.
Unfortunately due to the varied nature of the hardware within winmo phones there is no current android rom that just works on all winmo phones. Some phones have android ports but many others do.
You mentioned about "Droid ROMs can be fully loaded to a winmo device correct? Why not if you wipe the device and reload it?"
I think you are talking about the use of Haret to run android roms from windows?
Haret is generally used in the developing stages of a linux rom to avoid having to flash a possibly buggy os. I beleive it is possible to flash a working linux rom to a winmo phone but it is usually not done, it is far more accepted to use haret to boot linux roms.
Thanks for all the replies. As a blackberry hybrid builder I made many builds that were way better than stock and more advanced so I can understand what you all are saying. I just am not seeing it yet in the posts. The ROMs I see made by people all have the registry tweaks I have already done and visual changed from the stock look. That's it. Am I not seeing something?
Yes your not seeing the full picture. Most cooks will use newer build components then what you will find in a stock ROM. Yes some of these components can be loaded through cabs but some can not. It is usually better to cook main OS apps and app components into a rom then loading them later. This tends to make things unstable and buggy. Yes a lot of cooks make theirs ROMs full of eye candy but that is only the icing on the cake so to say. You are coming from a phone that had nothing in terms of eye candy and was solely built for for function/productivity a newer WinMo phone is built to have both productivity and a pretty wrapper to go with it.
Don't worry the more you dig into the more you will understand and the more the urge will hit you to try a custom ROM.
Ok, so what ROM do you all recommend and why? I would like to test one out. I'm not interested in eye candy, just performance. I do not care about many apps either. Only twitter and Opera basically. I don't face book or use gmail.
Let me know what you all think or suggest.
I do have another question. Why do I keep getting this email user name and password popup? I keep entering it and checking the save password box but it still randomly pops up frequently. I have already tried deleting the yahoo email and resetting it back up.
You can start looking through them. There are some stripped down versions here and there but most will have other apps on it simple because thats what the cook uses.
The best idea for finding a rom that is right for you is just to browse the roms forum, look at what is included/removed from each rom and find one that matches the applications/functions you need.
make sure you follow this guide(or the one this links too if you have the american 1024 hd2) for updating your rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=609477
most of the time the cooked rom is not faster than stock, but it got the latest updates on all applications, and thats nice =) bugs are fixed. Some cooked roms have a lot of bugs, so try a couple and find one you like
Ok, WTF now. I have read so many posts and searched my butt off here and all for nothing? Seems I have this SPL 2.10 whatever that is and cant load that HSPL program so I can flash a custom rom. WTF? how many darn steps do I have to go through to load a ROM on this phone? Why is this so complicated? If the phone is wiped, why can't whatever I want be loaded on it?
So what do I do now?
What is a hard and soft spl?
Why would I want to downgrade just to load this hspl?
I have had my HD2 for about a year now and are going to hard reset it for the 3rd time. I am not very fund of Manila, and have been using the SPB Mobile Shell until now (love the flexability). However now that I am resetting it once more, what is the must have installations for music, video and performance, and most important, which OS to go for? Should I try to gingerbread it and go Android, or is there Win7 possibilities?
Any advice appreciated!
WinMo7 is possible but I would go for Energy 6.5.5 29xxx builds, they have non sence builds with android style homescreen so may have something of interest.
I find sense with CHT mod hard to beat myself & well setup wm6.5.5 is hard to beat in all round professional use.
For video coreplayer, music (i use HTC sence player) but pocket player is very good.
If serious on Android I would recommend try a native device for a while to see if you really like it !

Thanks for the reply. The reason for thinking of converting to android was basically due to apps and such, but is really not a must. I've seen a few vids on youtube of how to convert to WinMo7 and Android, and it looks pretty straight forward, however if something goes wrong, could you easily go back to the original setup?
Also, I've seen some vids of the energy 6.5.5 setup, and it looks like the standard HTC theme, with some added possibilities for shortcuts etc. However, if this is manly the only reason I am pretty sure I would rather continue to use SPB Mobile Shell.
I too was a WinMo fan for years and only started on Android for fun, didnt expect to migrate. I started of just booting it now and again via SD card from widows untill I realised I was using it more and more till the point where it was automatically booting after windows on startup via bootloader.
Now ive been using Android non-stop for about a year first on my blackstone (HD1) and now on my Leo (HD2).
I honestly think you should just go the Android route on your device and leave WM6.5 behind like the rest of us. You can even use SPB Mobile shell on there if you like (leaked version) that way you still have same experience you had before but with all the apps/games of android.
And yes, to answer your question is extremely easy to go back if you change your mind. To revert everything you simply flash WM6.5 rom back on via tri-color bootloader (hold vol down and press power).
The posts above have given you very good sound advice. The only thing I want to add is before going completely Andriod with a NAND ROM. Try a Andriod SD card build first to see if you really want to go full on Andriod.
@ TheATHEiST, thanks. Thats the sort of advice I was looking for
@ T-Macgnolia, Sounds very vice to try a SD version first. I am currently using a SanDisk 16GB HC card, but I think it is pretty slow compared to the faster ones (judging from the price I paid).
By doing android via SD card, what is the easiest route for installing? Seen so many different guides, hard to know which work best.

If you have the 16GB SD card that comes with the T-Mobile HD2 it works great, this is the card I use for my SD Andriod build. All SD Andriod builds are the same, all you do is download the build, extract the zip file, (most builds create and extract to a folder named Andriod) copy the Andriodine folder to theroot of your SD card, then use the file explorer to open the Andriod folder and touch on CLCAD first to enable the sound in Andriod (it will appear as nothing appended but that is normal), then touch on HARET and you will see a box that says "Booting Leniux" then you will see a black screen with tiny writting at the top left corner of the phone screen then you will see the black screen with HTC in green then the screen will go completely black for a bit (some builds have a custom s reengineering for here so it may be different), last you will see the lock screen for the Andriod and you are booted and ready to go. Remember the first boot can take up to five to ten minutes so be patient but the .pot up time will not be that long after the first time.
Ok, dosent seems like its too diffucult then. The SD card that came with the phone only had 2GB storage capacity so I bought the 16GB straight away. Do I need to do a backup on the SD card? I have alot of photos etc. Also, I probably need a radio update (not that I've managed to understand what the radio is, except it does not play music ^^,)?

Yes I highly recomend making a back up copy of your SD card as the Adriod is going to make several folders and things on your SD card on the first bootup. This way you will know what was on there before you booted Andriod. I also suggest you flash radio version 2.15.50.14 as it is the latest radio version and it works good with Andriod be it SD or NAND. The radio is whaf controls certain aspects like your phone reception, voice quality, and such. Go the the master radio threadcthat is stickied in the HD2 Windows Mobile development forum here on XDA to learn more about it and you can download that radio version to flash there.

Ok, thaks alot for the help. I will give it a try after I backup the SD card. Any particular SD-card Android version you recommend?
edit: I found this list http://android.hd2roms.com/
Besides from knowing I want a SD version I am not sure which I should try. Just go for the one that was updated most recently?

Do you have a active data connection at all? If you have one then the APN is set for your carrier but if you do not then you will have to set up your APN settings. I do appologize as the only APN settings I know is the ones for US T-Mobile.So unless house are a US T-Mobile customer I do not know them. You can probabky Google your carrier or search g their web site and find the APN you need to enter. In Andriod go to Settings/Wireless and Networks/ Wireless connection (I think doing this from memory here) then touch on APN then press the Windows hard Start button and touchon add.
Android is the best
I loved this phone -- at first, i got one of the first from Tmobile, was all excited. Then it kept freezing. 2 "new" HD2s later i hate it. And at the moment, I have a horrific sinus infection and no patience to find the links to the drivers and i want to take it to my husband's office and throw it off the top of the building. Unfortunately i think, since it's a police station, they'd frown upon that.
I also don't understand "computer" speak... please help me in "stupid person" terms if you can
1. A new driver to keep it from freezing, locking up etc. Every time i'm doing something, like typing a text mssg - and i'm recving a text mssg, the darn thing needs to be rebooted!
2. Tell me what i need to do to keep getting my gmail without the damn thing overheating and draining the battery.
3. Cool apps/games -- preferably free (i have kids that need to be entertained mid-air)
4. the name of a good bluetooth device.
If you can help me and you live within the 415, 510, 408, or 925 area codes i can reward you with cupcakes (when i'm no longer sick of course) -- i bake them professionally.
Also, can the hd2 with win 6.5 be upgraded to win 7? and if so, how?

1. WHich ROM do you use, Stock or Custom?
2. Gmail never has a problem with WInmo. We all know about the battery drains. You can either buy the extended battery or else turn off your 3G and Wifi when not needed (set everything manually)
3.I dont know about much about games and apps in WInmo. But, I like to play teeter, neon and bejewel
4. I have bluetooth devices from SOny Ericsson and Motorolla. All is good in term of quality.
Cheers..

1. Stock -- last time i did the Tmobile "update" it just made it worse so i did a factory reset and have been living with it ever since. Custom would be awesome since my "1 yr warranty" no longer exists.
2. seems too time consuming when the darn thing doesn't like to do what i ask in the first place
3. i have all those games
4. i'll try those, sick of using the corded one and my bluetooth broke.
1) Your T-Mobile HD2 needs no driver. What it needs is a Custom Rom because it seems that you have the Stock Rom 2.13 or 3.14. First you need to Unlock your device with HSPL3 found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611433 . Here is the Link for your TMOUS HD2 Roms http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=992 or http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=534
2) Your device overheats because you might be running alot of programs or streaming alot of media on your device.
3) For games theres alot of sites for instance http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-tag-game.html
4) I dont normally use a bluetooth so i dont have an answer to that.
5) Yes, your phone Windows Mobile 6.5 can be hack and upgrade it Windows Phone 7 with the latest rom with NoDo thanks to DFT for making it possible to run Windows Phone 7 and YukiXDA Rom for the NoDo rom. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1080950
I hope this helps

1. As the above post said you do not need any drivers. I recommend you look into a custom Windows Mobile ROM like any of the Energy or Duttys ROMs. You can also check into running android on it or WP7. Any of those three choices run a lot smoother then a stock ROM.
2. Sorry I could never get my HD2 to even set up my gmail account in the Manila/Sense email.
3. again agree with the above post, go to freewarepocketpc.net to get the Omarket, it has a lot of free games. Also do several Google searches for games for Windows Mobile 6.5.
4. Sorry again no advice here, I do not use any bluetooth devices.
5. Yes you can put Windows Phone 7 on your HD2. Click on the guide in my sig and read the very first couple of paragraphs and you will find a link to a guide on how to install WP7. You can also check out the rest as it might bed helpful to you. I also have two guides to installing Andriod linked close to the link for the WP7 guide. I recommend the WP7 ROM by YukiXDA as it is the newest and only WP7 ROM for the HD2 that has NoDo working.
Last make sure you do plenty of reading and researching before attempting any OS change, it is best to be informed.

1. i have NO idea how to go about doing any of this. Seriously, i am a computer/electronics dummy. i'm lucky i can turn the darn thing on. when instructions are saying check your HSPL OSPL SPL, unistall it, save it to SD, rename it, or whatever, i have NO idea how to go about doing that. so please someone help me here.
HSPL is like the key to the phones guts... SPL is what the phone comes with by default that is the LOCK of the phone.. Cotulla managed to change it around and called it HSPL so with that you can do stuff on your HD2 that HTC and Microsoft don't want you doing...
So by putting HSPL following the guides mentioned your simply starting a Windows Application that will restart you phone into the phones bootloader or SPL (what turns on at first and is covered by the HTC logo or T mobiles Stick Together)
then it flashes (installs) HSPL so that your phone becomes unlocked to custom ROMS or modified update packages and in turn allows you to put MAGLDR which is a custom DFT (Dark Forces Team) project that after HSPL is loaded a new Operating System Loader starts up and allows you to run Android or Windows Phone from the phones internal memory. Radios are a little bit risky since some Radios will brake your device and make it unusable but for some people its worth the risk with improved Cell coverage and Faster speeds but in some cases drains the battery faster. You have the latest Radio since it was included with T-Mobiles 3.14
In your case if don't want Windows Mobile 6 then the alternatives are either Android with its large Market Place or Windows Phone (new) with its some what limited Market but with free games none the less
BUT a custom build of Windows Mobile 6 will have better performance since it won't be filled with T-Mobiles junk and you will be familiar with it instead of switching to Android or Windows Phone with their different Interface
Just read t-mac's guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1021837
keep in mind to explain everything COMPLETELY so you can understand over online text might be a little tedious. here's a guide to flash android onto your phone, but it isn't limited to android. you can flash windows phone 7 roms similarly. i can empathize with you, there was a time i didn't know what anyone was talking about but take it all in stride, do some looking around the forums and see if you can gradually understand what people are saying. trust me, just grab a hot coffee sit down and browse through things i have faith you'll figure things out

Then why are you even here?
You have absolutely zero chance of been able to do any of this simply because you obviously are not even prepared to go and sit down and read. If you was you would be reading teh guides and sticky topics etc instead of back and forth in this topic.
Dump Windows Mobile, and go Android There are a bunch of guides in the Android thread, if you get overwhelmed you can always post a question
But if you still decided to throw it from the 12th floor, let me know when and where...
I have been using my HTC HD2 (1024) for over a year now with WM6.5 with very few problems. I have been using OzRom and its been stable and great. However having seen alot about WM7 i was thinking about upgrading. After scoring this website for ages i am puzzled by a couple of things:
1) there used to be a section for HTC HD2 (512) and HTC HD" (1024) but now it all seems cluttered together. A year ago when i flashed WM6.5 to my phone, i had to make sure i got the right ROM so i didnt brick my phone. Is this not the case anymore?
2) Some of the WM7 ROMs i looked at dont say whether they work on HTC HD2 (512) or HTC HD2 (1024). Some said they work, but only 512mb will be used. Is it worth upgrading if i can only use half my ram, or am i missing something?
3) What is the best WM7 ROM to use with a HTC HD2 (1024). i would like full use of 1024mb RAM, Stable and cracked(?) so everything works on it. (my friend bought a HTC phone from a shop in China and found out that nothing worked on it as it wasnt cracked)
Thanks in advance!

After the reorganization that has been made to the HD2 forum, the Tmo[1024] has been mixed with the Eu[512]. But you, still, have to make sure you flash the correct radio so that you dont brick your device
2) Some of the WM7 ROMs i looked at dont say whether they work on HTC HD2 (512) or HTC HD2 (1024). Some said they work, but only 512mb will be used. Is it worth upgrading if i can only use half my ram, or am i missing something?
First of all, [1024] is the internal memory size not the RAM. Second of all,Currently WP7 can only use 512 MB of internal memory whether you had the Tmo or Eu. so it wouldn't matter.Third of all, WP7 works on all HD2 versions [Eu and Tmo] You only have to have the proper Radio. (And if you ask for my personal opinion, I prefer Android over WP7. and yes it worths upgrading, since WP7 actually considers the SD card as the internal storage
3) What is the best WM7 ROM to use with a HTC HD2 (1024). i would like full use of 1024mb RAM, Stable and cracked(?) so everything works on it. (my friend bought a HTC phone from a shop in China and found out that nothing worked on it as it wasnt cracked)
"Again" [1024] is the size of your internal memory, and has nothing to do with your device's RAM. Both Eu and Tmo have a RAM of 576 MB.There is no best ROM. Every ROM has its hacks (though most of the ROMS are the Same), but I'd suggest you try XBMOD's ROM first. And WP7 doesn't need any "hacking" it only needs to be unlocked and activated (optional, necessary for using the Live services) . Most of the ROMS out there are Chevron Unlocked "Hacked" you only have to activate it with the code (which can be obtained from Microsoft).
Thanks in advance!
No Problem, Anytime buddy

How are you doing today? what a nice weather.
Thanks alot, this is very helpful. Ill check out that ROM and hopefully start using WM7. Once again thanks, this website is by far the most helpful!
So, with help from XDA dev, i have now put MP7 on my HTC HD2 (t-mobile). im a complete noob, but heres what i did if you want to copy!
1) Installed HSPL3 (i actually didnt need to, it was already installed, but nevermind!)
2) I upgraded the radio to 2.12.50.02
3) Installed MAGLDR113
4) Installed ROM, contacted microsoft for code and started playing!
However i have a few problems:
1) MP7 is smooth, but about 2 or 3 times every 10mins it hangs or gets stuck
2) Alot of time when i try to start an app, it says its loading, then returns to the start list. Then i try it again, same thing. When i try it later, its fine.
3) Zune says i have a 14 day trial. does that mean after 14 days i cant sync thing on my phone or download free apps?
4) MOST IMPORTANT! Phone cant read chinese. i tried about 10 different apps from the marketplace that say they can do chinese. I can send messages in chinese, but my wife (who is chinese!) cant read them. The message shows some chinese characters, but also symbols and squares. Its the same when she sends me a message. The phone must be able to see chinese because it shows some characters. On my old WM6.5, i had two files i had to install 1) Chinese font 2) Chinese input keyboard program. Is there anything like that for WP7?
Many Thanks again to all you helpful people!

That problem is with your device only, try to do everything again after doing a task29 (search for it) or try to use radio 2.15.
2) Alot of time when i try to start an app, it says its loading, then returns to the start list. Then i try it again, same thing. When i try it later, its fine.
Same as the first.
3) Zune says i have a 14 day trial. does that mean after 14 days i cant sync thing on my phone or download free apps?
The 14 days trial is probably Zune Pass, after expiration you WILL still be able to sync. But you wont be able to download music for free, you'd have to buy them with $$$.
4) MOST IMPORTANT! Phone cant read chinese. i tried about 10 different apps from the marketplace that say they can do chinese. There There have been some rumors that WP7 SHALL have more languages supported within Mango update, you should look upon it.
And Finally, its WP7 (Windows Phone 7) not MP7 (Mobile Phone 7 ???)
Many Thanks again to all you helpful people!

Have fun with your phone!
I flashed my phone after doing the task29. its a little better, but still jerky and slow sometimes. Ive worked out that when its plugged into my computer, zune is installing apps and what not, so the phone is slow to respond. Also zune uses a huge amount of internet bandwidth. Im living in China, so i only have 2mb (when connecting to things outside China its even slower) and i cant surf in the internet when zune is downloading and installing things on my phone!
You said after the 14 days, i cant download free music. is that the same for free apps?
Im using a ROM at the moment which supports reading of Chinese and i downloaded the "im Chinese" apps which supports writing. its working fine, but just wish i had a chinese keyboard like in WM6.5.5!
Thanks for all your help, im loving MP7 and after 4 days of trying this and that, im very happy with it!

You'll still be able to download and install free apps. Zune Pass has nothing to do with free music nor free apps. Even after 14 days, if free music is offered, then you can still download them.
As for a ROM with Chinese..try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1080950
YukiXDA has a version with Chinese keyboard in it and I think he just uploaded a new version with Asian language support. Read his first post outlining all the details. This version has Mango beta in it.
As for your lag issues while using your phone, it's more than likely your SD card. I've found using a class 4 card produces periodic lags while I have not experienced any lags with a class 6 card. I know this because I have 2 HD2's..one with a class 4 and one with a class 6 with identical setups except for the SD card.
My only suggestion with the lag issue is to use at least a class 6 SD card with WP7. Class 6 has faster I/O speeds than a class 4. Hope it all works out.
Thanks for the info. The YUKI ROM was one of the first ROMs i tried as it said it supported chinese. He split his ROM into two different ones, so i downloaded the chinese one and found it didnt support chinese. tried the other one and same thing. My wife and I are using an English base ROM that supports chinese that she found somewhere. it seems stable and usable, just dont like the stock icons after using XBmods rom for a while!
How do i find out what class my SD card is? im guessing that is the problem as i got the card for free when i bought the phone
