Because I am new to these forums I cannot post my question in the thread to where my question is directed to ... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113878
My question is what is the real-life difference between the Full Packages and the Updates?
And to follow that up - Can I install the Full Package (Acer_A501_0.000.00_4.017.03_EMEA_CUS7) onto my A500 which is as the following:
Android version: 3.0.1
Build number: Acer_A500_1.016.04_COM_GEN1
Will installing this Full Package be equivalent to formatting my Thinkpad laptop and installing WIndows 7 from scratch!?
Hi,
I have the same question but my situation is more worst.
I did a backup last time before I start install custom ROM.
Now when I tried to restore the original backup, I got an error message 'MD5 mismatch!'.
So now I can't even restore back to original ROM to check the version for my original ROM.
What should I do now to do the restore and update to HC3.2?
Bump ... gotta rack up those 10 posts somehow
YES. Just do it.

I'd have thought the answer was pretty obvious. A full package is exactly what it says it is. It can flash your device to the specified version from any other version. An update is ALSO exactly what it says it is. It updates FROM a specific version TO a specific version.
As to your other question, the answer AGAIN should be obvious. The A501 is a different device to the A500, it has a 3G modem. You shouldn't install ROMs for a different device as that would be pretty dumb. There are plenty of links to the official A500 ROM's on here, and Acer are also rolling out 3.2 at the moment.

Hi everyone,
I have just purchased a Vodafone-branded Magic/Sapphire. Android prompts me to install an 4.2 MB large update called "Android Update 1.5" with this message:
Please install this update from Google. It contains a security fix.
Now, what really confuses me is that Android 1.5 is already installed - at least according to the settings menu, where this information is shown:
Model number: HTC Magic
Firmware version: 1.5
Kernel version: 2.6.27-00392-g8312baf [email protected] #72
Build number: CRB17
Accordingly, I have three questions:
The phone says that the update as already been downloaded (most likely in the background), but not yet installed. Is it possible, using a terminal program/shell-prompt, to browse the phone's filesystem and check the filename of the update before you install it on an un-rooted phone? If so, where do I look for the update package?
Why does the phone want to install an Android 1.5-update? According to the phone Android 1.5 is already installed?
Can someone please tell me what the 4.2 MB update does? I have been googling for Android OTA Update "4.2 MB", but it seems that nothing is known about this update anywhere (there are, however, other updates within the 4 MB-range but none of them are precisely 4.2 MB in size).
I'd very much appreciate any help to sort this out (moderators, I hope I havn't created this thread in the wrong subforum; if I have, I apologize).
1. Run ddms/logcat to see the URL of the update.
2. 1.5 is the OS version.
3. It's most probably a security patch (of 1.5).
Its CRC1 and already "leaked"

Thank you. I'll do it as soon as the phone is fully charged again (as the manual says the battery will perform at its best after completing a few full charge/recharge cycles, I don't want to disturb it - pseudo-science, I know ).
Is the ddms/logcat stored locally on the Magic/Sapphire by default, or is it just part of the SDK-package?

Woah, one step at a time mister . I'm a total Android-newbie (although trying to catch up browsing various forums).
What is "CRC1"?
Will installing this patch prevent me to root the phone at some later stage?
Is there a proper changelog available somewhere?

It's security updates. I'd recommend getting the update from here (xda) rather than attempting to install it from the carrier.
I purchased my tablet from US and I live in india. Only one time i was able to update when i run it first time, after than never got any message for update of Android Version.
When i go to Settings>About Tablet and click on System Update and check for new version it's gives me message "Your device is up to date" and when i see the version details than these are
Model Number : A500
Android Version : 3.0.1
Kernel Version : 2.6.36-00017-gc98d63f
Build Number : Acer_A500_1.016.01_COM_GEN1
Update is not available for india yet or where i am wrong please help.
Not sure if your locale has anything to do with getting updates. That's typically an issue with 3G providers, but as long as your tablet is an A500 (wifi only version) it should find the OTA updates no problem, that it unless you are running a custom ROM. Either way, you can manually update your tablet. All the information you need is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113878
If you currently have a custom ROM or rooted your stock ROM, you will lose root by updating to a newer stock ROM, and the only way to recover root is by reverting back to Android 3.0. There are several custom ROM's based on 3.2 which already have root, if you also choose to go that route. If you have no idea what I mean when I mention root, just don't worry about it and carry on with that link I posted
Thanks Bloodflame, Yes i read that it can not be rooted and thank you for the link to get it update manually but i don't understand why i am not able to get updates.
And whether it is good to update with 3.0.2 ? Please suggest.

can't explain why you're unable to OTA update, but the security and performance improvements along with new features (ie, native mouse support) should make a manual 3.2 update worthwhile
Ok Thanks, I will update to 3.2 and let me see what magic it does.
Unrooted my tab and trying to get it back to the latest official version, but I'm having loads of trouble. Please help. Thanks!
My model number is A500, Android version is 3.0.1, kernel version is 2.6.36.3-00001-g44a8bac and build number is Acer_A500_1.145.01_COM_GEN2
This is the tab that best buy had on sale a few weeks/months on sale. Only 8GB of on board storage.
I have found threads with official updates, but don't know which is safe to install. They are all the same version but have different build numbers so I don't know which build number corresponds with my tab
I think I know the answer to this already, but can I jump from 3.0.1 to 3.2.1?
Anyways please help. I do appreciate it.
Thanks!
EDIT: 99 views and no replys? Do you guys not know the answer or are just being jerky? This is seriously my first post let alone question on the acer threads. I usually get things pretty easily, but I am having trouble on this one so it's not like I'm being lazy or asking a stupid question. Can someone help either by providing some answers or let me they don't know how to fix this??
Thanks

Not sure if you're still with us -
interested in knowing why you have not rec'd any OTA before now -unless you've been rooted from the start like i was when i got mine!!!
you also have to be stock, as in factory stock! the update checks a whole lotta stuff before it will install . If the system doesnt stack up the update will fail. So if you have deleted or frozen bloatware apps they will need to be restored, along with modded build props etc. factory data reset and full wipe fixes that problem, but Most people want to keep their data if they can and isn't an option. The update itself should leave everything in place. Mine did.
u need a Gen_2 build. I'm not familiar with your build number or upgrade path for 1.145, but you should receive an OTA for 3.1, 3.2 and the latest 2 for 3.2.1.
if u just wanna install one of the updated custom stock roms with root or cwm, you should be fine with any build and yes you can go straight to 3.2.1 from 3.0.1, but no OTA with these roms

This is a known issue and too many reasons to list. But, basically you are not 100% or it thinks that (checksums different) etc.
So, just flash directly to 3.2.1 GEN2
Mods please close. I was able to fix the issue
I was rooted and had to flash to 3.0.1 or 3.1 before unrooting with the iconia apk. Then I used the acer recovery tool to flash stock recovery. But after flashing stock recovery and unrooting I couldn't get any OTA updates. I re-read some the posts and manually updated to 3.2 after decrypting the zip. After updating I checked for new OTA updates and sure enough found both. Now I'm back to stock 3.2.1. Patiently waiting for ICS
Glad you got it working.
Since I'm new here, i cant post in the developer forum. Figure i would ask here. Want to install the new 2.1 version. I noticed in the instructions that it uses (fastboot -w) to wipe data. In the previous version it said not to use on the pro model as it had problems. Looking for some advice on the proper procedure to flash this version on a pro model.

This is probably more for Q&A. But, I will do my best to help you. You shouldn't have any problems installing it exactly as he states here, even with a pro version. Just note, the fastboot oem unlock will take almost 2 hours on the pro version. From there, it's as simple as he says. Just make sure you have all the correct drivers installed.
Thanks. Was just worried about the data wipe on pro model.
Duplicate thread exist with same issue.

Hi,
I know I am late to the party to root this phone, but didn't want to spoil the warranty earlier then got busy with my work. But this phone is getting slow, so I think this is right time to root. As this thread says, I want to root my Asus Z010D. Frankly I never did rooting and there are so many articles when I did google. There are also multiple download links to download ADB, TWRP, SuperSu etc. I am not sure which are right files as some are just labeled as recovery. I created new thread so I can post updates how it goes and ask for help rather than hijacking any other threads.
Below is my phone details:
Model: ASUS_Z010D
Andriod version: 6.0.1
Baseband version: M3.3.11-ZC550KL_215421_8916
Kernel version: 3.10.49-perf-g99b6098
Build Number: MMB29P.WW_Phone-13.8.26.110-20180110
060020723_201603020037
I have already downloaded
1. ADB 1.4.3,
2. 8916_SIGNED_Android_M_UnlockTool_2016_0715.apk
3. TWRP-3.1.1-Z010DD-20171001-by-AudaHadi
4. PRO-SuperSU-v2.67
5. A file named recovery from some thread of xda forum of same Asus model
Do I need anything else other than above files?
Are there new ROMs available for this?
What are next steps?
Are the steps given in below link are sufficient?
