Have any of the bright folk out there figured out a way to extend the password length on the newest root creation? The most recent root for the 1.3.0 finally worked for my Color Nook.
However - to download the Lotus Notes Client, the corp email security requires at least 6 characters - and all I can get is the 'normal' 4 character password screen.

So I have seen the HTC Desire changelog but didn't see as comprehensive one made for the Samsung Galaxy S (though I suck at searching )
I have only had my android phone (Samsung Galaxy S) for about 6 weeks but lkike my previous phones (windows mobile) I like to get into the nitty gritty and so notice somethings/changes that others may not
OK I installed Froyo the other day moving from eclair update1 and below are the changes I have noted and even a few that now appear to have gone. My Eclair already had things like mobile AP, New Market (update all etc) so these changes wont be mentioned

Samsung Galaxy S Froyo Change log
Hi. I have a few questions that I hope you can answer.
1.) Did you do the official Samsung Froyo update (KIES or OTA) on your Galaxy S?
2.) Exchange integration; Calender: Can you accept, decline, schedule, reschedule meetings?
3.) Exchange integration: Can you browse company global address book? (Company directory?)
4.) Music over Bluetooth headset working?
I work in a corporate company running exchange 2007 and the lack-of decent exchange integration in Galaxy S is becoming a deal breaker.

I also work for a coperation also using Exchange 2007 and I have the same If not better access to Exchange from my galaxy S then the others on site who use iphones. I can access all my files, folders and attachements, my tasks, calendars it syncs with my outlook contacts and I can search my GAL when I need to.

Though the meetings come through ok you don't have options to accept/decline etc . Your only option would be to connect via OWA to deal with meeting requests whilst out of the office and top be honest this is very usable and the OWA client renders very well on the Samsung Galaxy

This is the Same as 2.1 where yu can search the GAL (it's fast) but you don't have a browsable list. Again if you did required more access to the GAL u could again use OWA.

Got a bluetooth headset but haven't tested this
To be honest the "Better Exchange support" that was listed in Froyo changes seems to be now the ability to view calendars (I dont think u could in 2.1) and also you can now perform a remote wipe incase you lost your phone. This feature used to exist on windows mobile and no seems to exist on Android??
Hey thanks for the reply. Was really good to see that I could at least access the GAL through the email client. What I was actually complaining about is the ability to add contacts from the GAL. So search for a contact and then saving all their details to your contacts from the GAL.
A friend of mine has the HTC Desire (I am fairly sure he has Android 2.1) And in contacts under the menu options he has "browse company directory" (Same as my old windows mobile 6.5).
With that option he can search the GAL and save to his contacts. This is obviously great since you then have all the contact detail of the contact. I was wondering if you could do that in the galaxy S Froyo update.
Depending on the size of your company your GAL could be massive containing many private, public, distribution lists etc I wouldn't want any of that lot in my phones contacts cluttering it up If I really did I would save the contact from the GAL into my Outlook contacts which then my phone syncs with via the Exchange server.
In regards to the HTC Desire, my brother in law uses on of those i'll ask him this morning if his does then this is an HTC thing and not an Android.
I also came from using Windows mobile various versions from older CE to 6.1 (did use 6.5 for a bit on my Omnia) and to be fair the intergration was better on those phones because it actually used a MS Outlook client.
Would just be great to add/save a new contact from GAL like on the HTC Desire. but im sure I read somewhere that its standard on froyo.

Mine 2.1 (JF3/JM1) was already recording 720p. And there's no codec change - it's only the file extension (.mp4 instead of .3gp) that changes. Internally it's still 3GP4.

Nope. I'm still getting gaps after uninstalls. JPO.
Kies 2.2 here... International I9000 (Hong Kong) connecting to a 2007 Exchange infrastructure. I have zero visibility to my company's GAL. However on my iPhone I can search it up and down.
When @ 2.1 I ended up writing a .NET app to read our domain for "people" and created a csv of people within departments of interest.
I'd love to clear my Google contacts. Our Data Security team would likely be a smidge peeved if they knew I basically exported our forest and loaded it into Google Contacts.
Hi,
Was hoping the 2.3.3 release would have fixed these issues, alas no.
Are there enlightened people out there that know a way for the stock email and calendar apps to sync with exchange servers that insist on password certificates. I work for a blue chip company and these type of certificates are common place.
Basically our exchange servers only will allow sync if I place a secure password on my device i.e. 9 letters long with symbols and numbers. After 9 failed attempts it wil delete all the mails and contacts on the phone. fair enough.
The messge states "Set up could not finish.... Server requires unsupported security features"
Why in the modern world does android not allow this? My IPhone 3gs / Iphone 4 had no issues accepting, neither do Windows based phones.
The only work around is Moxier mail which kills my phones battery within hours.
Please, is there any way around this problem?
Thanks in advance
Neil
Bump. Is there no Roms? anything that fix the ****ty stock email?
Please help. Moxier mail east 10/15 % battery every hour. Without ever touching hte device.
Hey guys,
I just tossed together a quick tutorial that will allow you to use the built-in IMAP, CalDav, and CardDav support in WP8 GDR2 to sync with Apple's iCloud services! This "hack" should work with any IMAP/CalDAv/CardDav accounts you may have.
*NOTE* For some reason the calendar entries are off by 5 hours (I am in the Eastern Time Zone) when compared between the windows phone and my Apple devices. Also, some ancient recurring entries in a shared calendar don't seem to come in properly for me for some reason. I am guessing the version of CalDAV on Windows Phone does not properly deal with Time Zones.
Instructions inspired by BlackBerry.com http://btsc.webapps.blackberry.com/...nisa.apps.common.BaseViewedDocsListHelperImpl
1. Go to Settings --> email +accounts --> and click "add an account"
2. Select "Google"
3. When prompted, enter a valid Gmail address and password. (we will fix this later)
4. Wait patiently for the initial sync to finish..(It may take up to 5 mins)
5. Locate the account that you created and tap on it to open the account settings...(It will be called Google, Google 2, etc).
6. Change the "Account Name" to something meaningful (I changed mine to iCloud)
7. Change the email address to the one you use for iCloud. *NOTE* If you don't use iCloud mail, enter a dummy email address here that is different from any other email address already on the device.
8. Set "download new content" to a value that you prefer. (Mine is set to every 15 mins)
9. Set "Download email from" to an appropriate value.
10. in the "content to sync" section, check which iCloud info you want to sync. (Email, Contacts, or Calendar)
11. in the "Your Name" field, enter your name.
12. If you will be using IMAP to sync with iCloud email, change the Incoming email server to "imap.mail.me.com:993", if not skip this step.
13. for the User Name, enter your iCloud user name. (Mine is my apple id because I never made an iCloud email account)
14. for the password enter your password.
15. If you will be using IMAP to sync with iCloud email, change the Outgoing email server to "smtp.mail.me.com:587", if not skip this step.
16. If you will be using IMAP to sync with iCloud email, make sure "Outgoing server requires authentication" is checked, if not skip this step.
17. For the "Contacts server (CardDAV)" enter "contacts.icloud.com".
18. for Calendar server (CalDAV)" enter "caldav.icloud.com".
19. Click the "Check" box to save your settings.
20. Check to see if things are syncing!
*NOTE* If the calendar sync is not working, it may be necessary to change you CalDAV server name to p0#-caldav.icloud.com, where # is represents the numbers 1-9. Example: p05-caldav.icloud.com or p04-caldav.icloud.com). If you don't want to experiment, there are instructions online on how to pull the right server name from Apple's Calendar app.
**EDIT** More Info on Time Zones:
1. When The Windows Phone sends the info about the event to the CalDav Server, the phone tells iCloud the event is in "Eastern Standard Time". (It should be "Eastern Direct Time" bc DST.) When the CalDAV Server correctly sends this data back to the phone, the phone processes as "Eastern Standard Time" and "bumps" the event forward an hour. The phone also doesn't send all the proper TimeZone info back to the server in the ICS file, resulting in a non-editable event in the iCloud calendar. If you Switch the displayed time zone from "Eastern Standard Time" to "Eastern Time" in the iCloud Calendar app, you can edit the event. When it comes back to the phone, it will be off by 4 hours due to the processing bug (see 2)
2. CalDAV entries that are created in iCloud come back to the device with a time zone of "US/Eastern". I am guessing there is a parsing bug in the app so that when it sees the "/", it freaks out, stops processing the TimeZone data contained in the ics file, and leaves the entry as GMT.
A couple of ways that may fix the TimeZone issue with the calendars:
1. Turn on TimeZone Support vial iCloud.com or the Calendar app. Make all your entries in the "Floating" time zone. This forces all calendar entries to be set with the "Real" time on the server and strips out TimeZone calculation.
Thanks! I have a iCloud email that I don't use, but it seems that some people I know still email there, now I don't have to boot up a old iPod touch to check that
The "off by 5 hours" issue is because Windows stores local time, and apparently expects the same; iOS probably stores GMT and applies the offset itself. Or possibly the other way around for the phone; I don't know. Would depend which way it was off.
I figured as much...I know that if you are dual-booting a hackintosh, you have the same issue (with the System Date and Time)...Windows expects the BIOS time to be in local time and Linux/Unix/OSX expects the BIOS time as GMT.
There's a registry flag which supposedly "fixes" this behavior on Windows; it may work on WP8 too. The relevant key is present...
Hive: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Key: SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\TimeZoneInformation
Value: RealTimeIsUniversal
Data: 1 (DWORD)
Reboot the phone after setting that, and if needed, fix the time (it should fix automatically if it has signal from a tower or GPS). See if that helps.

@GoodDayToDie
I figured out what is going on with the native Calendar app (Thanks, Fiddler!). See my OP for all the info. Do you know if there is a way to report this to Microsoft? Do they Care? I did install the preview build of GDR3 before trying this experiment, so it won't be fixed in GDR3.
Apple iCloud works perfectly now!
Great news! If you use Windows Phone 8.1, there is now a iCloud setting in 'email+accounts'... Easy peasy. Email, calendar and contacts work BUT still has annoying still has time issues with calendar entries!!!
It was the first thing I set up
I'm sure it's *possible* to send a report, but I don't know how to go about it. Um, this sounds kind of silly, but have you tried contacting the WP8 team on social media? Sometimes that works better than one might think. There's also UserVoice (which is more about feature requests, but not a bad place for bug reports if you don't need it fixed urgently).
Hi guys,
Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask this, if is not the right place I will move it.
Recently I bought a Windows 8.1 tablet, so playing around with the pre-installed apps I set up my corporate exchange account in the Mail App(Metro) and it disabled the option to access with PIN and picture just the password was left as an option. So just wondering if is it possible to disable the exchange security that is imposed by the Mail App in Windows 8/8.1.
Thanks guys,
I get the feeling that you think it would work the same way as that of Android where you simply flash a cracked /modded .APK file
I simply use OWA (Outlook Web App) so as not to have to conform to the security.
You could also install a full copy of MS Outlook (desktop version) so as to bypass that requirement.

Left click or long hold on the start menu, click control panel then user accounts. On left hand side of the window you will find 'reset security policies' at the bottom of the list.
I think you can also do it in Local Security Policy editor (secpol.msc) but I haven't ever tried. The actual restriction is stored in the registry. Be aware that if you continue using the corporate account, you'll probably get locked out of picture password again. Also be aware that what you're asking for is probably a violation of your company's policies and is much less secure (in order for the feature to work, your machine must store the password or an equivalent to it; normally no such thing is stored).
Sent from my Samsung ATIV S SGH-T899M using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
Hi Guys, any update on this? Would we have a patch of some sort to block this policy enforcement? My Android Nine app can simply accept a 4 digit pin and encrypt its own data, but Windows 8.1 Mail App (surface pro 3) insists on putting a complex password. It's a headache to write a complex password each time even if I set timeout to 15 mins.
I also could not find any other alternative, even Touchdown pulled support for Win 8.1 app. I can use an Android emulator but then we are losing connected standby function of getting mail updates automatically even when screen is off.
Hello. I support a large medical agency and they have adopted Galaxy S 3's as their company phone. They have to change their Active Directory password every three months, which in turn means they have to update the password for their email on the phone. I was wondering if it's possible to make an app that would simply bring up a field where they can type their updated AD password in and it update the password withing the account settings. I hope this makes sense. Technologically speaking, most of these people are a generation from stone tools and smoke signals, so I'm basically looking for a way to eliminate as many steps as possible from the process. Thanks for any assistance.
