Recent troll activity in the dev forum?

Has anyone else noticed recently that a lot of noobs have been posting questions in the dev forum there is like 2 new ones there every day...

It happens, certainly with a site of, and I quote, Active Members: 401,132.
What I don't get is why people feed em.
If someone posts in the wrong section ignore the thread and move on with life. It will drop to page 60 within a few hours.

The people you're referring to are tards, not trolls. Trolls are the ones that respond to these threads for no reason.

You guys throw around the term troll a lot. The correct term for the context would be noob and report the post to be moved to the question section. Complaining about the problem and not offering a solution is pretty lame.

The fun thing is, it's about to get "worse".
This happened with the Hero too.
From what I've noticed, the cycle goes like this:
Awesome phone is dev phone of choice.
New awesome phone gets released, and previous awesome phone becomes "cheap phone" (or secondhand phone) of choice.
XDA floods with new members with their "new" phones, wanting to join the fun.
By this time, the usual well-known devs, and seasoned users, move on to new forum section, old section fills up with ... well, n00bs (fine) and trolls (not fine).

I can assure you my knowledge of HTC's and Android is alot better than you'd think.
Just because you may know alot about 1 device does not mean you'd be a good moderator. I quote MikeChannon here.
Moderating is not about having an expert knowledge of the device, it is about encouraging members to follow (and in some cases enforcing) the rules, whilst maintaining a pleasant, supportive atmosphere within the forum.

Now, I'll be the first to admit that I am not particularly active here, things are very tidy and there is a strong community spirit here. Why would I want to upset that great balance?
I'm not saying that VICODAN would or wouldn't be a good moderator, so don't assume that.

So, I pondered even posting but I feel that this needs to be addressed.
Since when has xda started taking nominations for moderator?
Also, I agree with Crump, and FDXRider. It's nothing personal against vicodan but, if you polled all the shift users you wouldn't be voted in, also, what has our new mod Andy even done?

Why are people so up in arms about a moderator we haven't seen in action yet?
Lastly... The fact that a mod does or doesn't have the device is so irrelevant... Even if he had the device, would he be able to offer some new found advice on the shift??? Probably not, this isn't a shot at the mod either, as the shift community is rather intelligent.
In my experience mods are here to keep the rules in check and make sure our section is orderly. If he isn't/wasn't doing this I could see where you are coming from with switching mods, but, again, he hasn't done anything other than listen to vicodan complain that he isn't the mod...
Welcome to the shift section again Andy! Good to have you as a mod!
Edit: I also want to ask this... If the device that andy uses has/had a fully functional ROM, mod, etc. that could be ported to the shift and he offered to help port, would you still be opposed to him not owning a shift? I certainly wouldn't...

I've seen a lot of bashing on xda about the mods. We are all human and all have ways of dealing with things. But I agree that a moderator should have a good understanding of the rules and enforce if need be. One rule I've seen go out the door on xda is enforcing the GPL on kernels. Most of the mods don't enforce this and after speaking to the GNU/GPL webmaster about this he is quite disappointed in how online websites don't value GPL anymore as much as they use to. If you distrubite a rom, of course it has a kernel in it. Even if it's not your kernel you are required to post a kernel source link to the kernel source because you are distrubing that kernel binary. Look at how many threads there are that don't have kernel source links.

Opinion on the fastest Sreamlined Rom....

Because it's kinda retarded to ask a question that['s been asked 1000 times already and it IS part of the TOS to actually do a search before you post a question that's been repeatedly answered.
I know for a FACT that when you typed the subject for this thread you probably got an expandable menu showing a ton of these threads, which, btw, have no real answer since it's all based on opinion.

I just wondering why our nexus community becoming such rude to each other..
I just read 2 thread which is Matr1x kernel and AdamG AOSP..
It is so annoying reading post that asking MK when will release JB kernel and asking thalamus to add vodoo smartass bla bla to his kernel..
Dont they realize that our dev just do the kernel, ROM , mod just as hobby??
Why have to ask repetitively for ETA for this and this??ironically the question already answered few previous post..
Eventhough you have donate 100000USD to dev..It is a donate..Not a paid, salary so whatever..So..

Users should be able to mark posts as spam like on youtube and if it gets two or three times marked as spam it should be deleted. Keeping the dev forum clean would not only make things easier for devs, but also for us, if there were no ETA questions and feature requests or other spam (don't post NICE ROM DOOD, AWSUM!!! but instead use the thanks button) it'd be much easier for us to find out the ROMs bugs etc.
A note to the devs: I know I can't request anything, but keeping Post #1 up to date and include as much relevant information as possible might help keeping your thread clean but that's just a suggestion and many of you do it anyways

Here! Here! Hope people read and take into consideration the implications of this post. We (non-devs) are very fortunate to have these very talented people donate their time and hard work for our enjoyment.

It just seems, at least to me, people just expect things to be handed to them and they feel that they are somehow owed something. I don't know the average age of the members here, but it may also have to do with that. I'm not giving them a free pass, but I've become kinda bitter when I see stuff like this because I've been using forums since middle school. I was that way once, but come on. How hard is it to read the OP?

(I've been flamed by NetChip, so i responded) Once they join, they didn't look into forum rules, didn't look into the Terms, and didn't look for Developers respects. So, you tell me. Forums for Nexus S get closed, the phones are useless, just paperweights and we all have to get a new one. Probably an iPhone, because we're unworthy of Android. He said he will release another JB rom once he is satisfied with it, which I'm cool with. The knuckleheads that kept asking the same thing over and over again didn't help either. You see it all over the place here. The answer half the time is in the op or a few pages back. But a site this popular will have many more people like that, so sadly it seems unavoidable.

Its the cycle... as a device gets older, it becomes cheaper. When it's cheaper, younger ppl can afford it. Younger ppl aren't as mature as older ppl (usually), and when they become part of the community, they bring a lot of young ppl problems.

Im okay if developers move on because of changing handphone..thats okay..such as netarchy, miui german team, steve garon ezekeel and other..thats alright..

All those examples suck, yes. Why do you think the 10-post-minimum was added? But to prevent it completely, you'd need a mod cleaning the threads continuously, that would be a boring fulltime-job. As for the attitudes: It takes two to tango... ^^

I agree with this post. Its like all of the members that left us for a Galaxy Nexus recently passed down or sold their Nexus S to a breed of idiots. It has never been this bad.

I agree with him!

First he blocked third party kernels, then he made his GIT private and in the end he locked the thread without any explanation... That was a bad decision in my opinion. There was allot of people contributing in that thread with information, help, etc, and by doing that he just lost all his reason. He could have gave a proper explanation and let people still use his thread for ideas. Being a developer doesn't mean you have to share everything that you do, it doesn't even means that you have to answer to all your questions, but it means that you shouldn't leave in the cold all those who were enjoying your ROM. Time to move on and search for another ROM where his developer doesn't treat his users as objects and disposables.
You can flame all you want, it was my 2 cents.

This moronic garbage was the last straw which got the thread closed.
As devs, we can only put up with so much crap from moronic users who provide no useful information to troubleshoot issues. Once it goes past a point, it's really not worth the earache anymore.

No, it's related with not having the mood to ignore those comments. Not everyone has the knowledge to troubleshoot their issues, some of them do stupid questions, some of them do stupid mistakes, so that means that everyone else should be forgotten because of that? It's not a solution to turn your back and move away in my opinion. You shouldn't do that in any aspect of your life! So if at work someone says that your work sucks you just throw it away, stick your fingers in your ears and lock the door... The solution is to ignore those comments who have no content whatsoever and keep assisting and chating with those that actually have something to say or share.

btw, right now me (and think some other users here) will wait for some news from the oxygen site or so...

We live in a democracy where people can share their opinion without being disrespectful. I didn't asked nobody to change his mind just because i don't agree with his/your decision, i just think that locking down things like both of you did goes against the XDA moto. It's ultimately his decision and we must accept it, that doesn't mean we must respect the motives behind it. I do respect you as a developer and a contributor to the XDA community but i think that as a person, you still have allot to learn.

Be careful and let it rest now, adamg and thalamus have the unquestioned support of a certain mod, they can do and write whatever they want. ("carte blanche")

I'm not 15 like half the people on here. I've been round the block a few times and what you see is what you get. Maybe some people have a lot to learn about what they can and can't expect from others. Never expect too much from others. The less you expect, the more satisfied you are with what you do get.
Yes, I can be harsh, but generally when I am there is a solid reason behind it. I am not going to apologise for saying what I think and being honest, at least people know where they stand then.
