hello guys..i'm a newbie in android, and, i have a big problem now. i tried to install another rom instead of the stock one (spanish), and now my device doesn't start at all. i tried many ways, and each time i was able to go to fastboot menu or recovery menu. now, after i've done some steps from this tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=491350&highlight=model+incorrect , my device keep restarting by himself. I cannot reach even recovery menu or fastboot menu. It starts the logo screen for 4-5 seconds, and after that is restarting and again the logo, even if i'm trying to press home+power or camera+power. what can i do???
My problem is like in this movie
if i press action button + power, nothing happends on the screen, but the blue led in the right top corners stays powered on. Do you know why?
If you cannot get in to recovery (home + power) or the SPL (power + camera) then you're doomed.
not even with jtag or something, cannot be done?
Unless you physically replace the motherboard (which doesn't look too hard) then no you can't. As of yet there's no Jtag method.
To perform a HTC HD2 Leo hard reset
1. With the phone turned off, press and hold the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons, then press the END/POWER button shortly and release it. You will then see a message on the screen telling you this will erase xxxxxxxx......
2. Release the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons.
3. Press the VOLUME UP button to perform the hard reset, or press any other button to cancel the reset.
Soft Reset
If i may add,
A soft reset,
1. Open the back with your thumb or finger
2. The RESET button is located below the bottom left slot for the battery and the SIM card. Use a small object with a blunt point like a toothpick to the RESET button.
3. Your phone will restart and the Home screen appears.
Correct me if im wrong,
Sorry im a newb, but what is the precise difference between hard and soft reset?
Will a soft reset delete stuff such as contacts, pictures and music? And will hard reset do the same?
thanks smaberg...
you should add the two other methods to the first post
there is the soft-reset button (little red button) and a software method (clear storage).

the "software" method (clear storage) is a hardreset, witch means you will restore it to factory default, deleting all info on phone...
the softreset only restarts the phone.
after flashing a new ROM i always recomend a hardreset afterwards, to be sure to get rid of all leftovers...
(Useful if flashing a rom and battery is less than 50%)
Enter bootloader mode:
Momentary press the red reset button on the back of the device, near the sd card slot, while holding the volume down button. Keep pressing on the Volume down till you see the bootloader screen. If you did not have volume down pressed as you were pressing on the reset button the device is just gonna reset and no change will take place.
Else, you will see "serial" written on the bottom middle of the screen if you're not connected to the PC via USB cable yet. "USB" will replace "Serial" when windows recognizes the device. Once on this state, you can press "next" on the rom installer where you have to acknowledge you connected the device via USB and your battery is grater than 50% and so on and so on.
You can start the installer on the PC prior to connecting the device in Bootloader mode. I don´t know what happens if you enter bootloader while connected to the PC (if you don't either, don't do it!!)
Note: I advise against using this mode with less than 10% or so. I guess you could end up with largest screened brick in the market.
To clarify previous posts:
Hard reset: Resets the device to factory defaults or to the last rom you installed.
How?
-Hardware method: combo of hardware buttons (described above)
-Software method: slide through HTC sence till "Settings" bar and select "Security" (top option). Then select "Factory resets" (last option). To my knowledge it does absolutely the same thing as the hardware method. correct me if I'm wrong.
Soft Reset: changes you made will take effect after the device resets (installed apps or reg edits...) OR you got to a sticky situation and you need to reset to get everything running smooth again (device shows abnormal operation of some kind).
How?
-Software method: Hold the power button till the quick list appears and press "power off" option on the top. You can also be presented with this option after installing some apps or after changing something within an app.
-Hardware method: remove the back cover and press the little red button near the sd card slot. Useful if the device stops responding and you are unable to soft reset by any other way.
Enter Bootloader Mode: allows for flashing devices in any battery state. It doesn't do anything by itself, just allows roms to be flashed. Some people have gotten stuck on this screen http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=599259, so use the search tool and read up before using. After flashing a rom you will loose every setting and file you had on the device itself. SD card will remain untouched (or so it should). I've read people advising to remove the card prior to flashing. Not exactly sure as to why. Files saved to the SD will remain intact. Apps installed on the SD card (aka. "Storage") will remain intact, only not registered or linked with shortcuts anymore. The device basically doesn´t know they exist.
How?
-Harware method: button combo (described above).
-Software method(ish): If you don't have to manually enter bootloader, the rom installer will take your device through this step without you having to do anything besides connecting through USB (activesynk, I guess) and running the RUU_LEO_xxx.exe file. You will see a progress bar on both PC and device as the rom is flashed.
Note: Reseting the device (turned on) while pressing a key (ex.: vol down) does the same thing as pressing the power button (with the device turned off) while pressing that same button (vol down).
Maybe you could transfer this info to the 1st post and clean up the thread a bit... Even, this could be at the Wiki section. Or better, a link on the Wiki to this thread
Hi guys,
I tried with both volume up and down pressed to hard reset, but not really successful. Perhaps I am doing something wrong?

did u press power while pressing vol up/down?
Well, for entering bootloader mode, you can do it in "software mode" without having a PC connected to your PPC.
You can just run EnterBootloader.exe from your device.
(see attachment)

yes, I did. But when pressing I do not feel that is actually "making contact" I tried several times...
I will try with the bootloader from above...let's see...
Thanks and regards,
Seba
If, for some reason, you cant hard reset using the power button, you can always press the reset button on the back of the device while pressing both vol up and down. After the vibration, it will enter the hard reset menu (remember to keep pressing both vol buttons till this point).
By the way: were you pressing the power button and both vol buttons with the device turned off? Cuz, with it turned on, you are just cycle through the quick list and vol menu like crazy.
Yep...pressing with phone off.
I tried with the reset button from the back of the phone and it worked.
Thanks guys...

Seba
I was running Liquid, booted into clockwork and installed MIUI. When I rebooted the phone it wouldn't go past the M logo. It shows up, then the phone restarts, and goes back to the M logo. Power up/down with the power button does nothing, and pressing power+x only brings me to the Android with an exclamation point. I tried to SBF, but when I plug my phone in, as the M logo comes up windows finds it, but then it continues to reboot and won't go past the M logo. I really just need to get to Clockwork and I can put a different ROM. Any suggestions?
If I remember correctly once you get to the android guy with the exclamation point you have to hit the search button and that will bring you recovery.
Either search button or volume up + volume down together, when you're on the exclamation point screen. You'll go into recovery mode and from there you can sbf.
with d2 g I can get to CWR
with phone off pressing camera button and plug in charger
Booting into Recovery
Power down the phone.
Slide out the keyboard.
Press and hold the X button on the physical keyboard.
Press the lock/power button.
Once you see a warning sign with an android robot appear, press the Search button on your physical keyboard if you're running 2.4.x firmware. For 4.5.x firmware, press Volume Up and Down buttons.
you could try
wipe cache and or wipe data
Bootloader
Boot the phone into SBF loader:
Power down the phone.
Slide the keyboard out.
Press and hold the up arrow (↑) key.
Press the lock/power button.
Once the SBF loader screen pops up, release the up arrow key.
these work for Droid2 g
Which MIUI are you flashing? I've flashed good and bad. I got good ones from rootzwiki and the most functional so far is 1.9.23
To get into Clockwork hit the down volume button when the blue light appears in the upper right-hand corner during the M logo. Select option 3, recovery, then latest recovery and you'll be in ClockworkMod.
As said above, wipe cache and data--I wipe davlik cache as well--then select zip to install.
So, the thing is after i update my nexus 7 to JB4.3, I cannot open the settings menu at all, when i try to open the settings menu, this thing keep pop out "Unfortunately, com.android.settings has stopped". So, I tried to reset it the "HARD" way to factory settings. After I did that, everything seems normal until the I try to choose the language. Guess what? this thing pop out again, "Unfortunately, com.android.settings has stopped". Up to this point, I dont have any idea how to solve my problem. I have spent like half day try to search for this problem from multiple forums. I really hope that somebody can help me from this misery. Thanks alot.
Try a factory reset..
If your tablet is on, power it off.
Press and hold Power until the device powers on, then immediately press and hold Volume Down (while still pressing Power). You will see the word Start with an arrow drawn around it.
Press Volume Down twice to designate Recovery mode.
Press Power to restart into Recovery mode. You will see an image of an Android robot with a red exclamation mark.
While holding down Power, press Volume Up.
Use the volume keys to scroll to "wipe data/factory reset" and press Power to select it.
Scroll down to "Yes - erase all user data" and press Power to select it.
Note that you will lose all apps, etc.

I have done that already. And after i reboot, I cant proceed further because when I try to choose the language, the same message pop out again "Unfortunately, com.android.settings has stopped" Any idea about this?
Did you upgrade via a OTA, stock image, or a rom download? Also, did you verify the md5 checksum?

My nexus7 actually has never been rooted and I'm actually new to Android, so I am a bit dumb
But, i'm a quick learner, I will appreciate it if somebody can guide me step by step.
What about fix permissions command in recovery? Along with a dalvik and cache wipe?

Sorry if this post is redundant, but the methods I've seen haven't worked, so I can't be alone. Here is how to boot into TWRP if your phone is boot looping/soft bricked. (info pulled from here, of all places.)
1. Make sure phone is completely powered down.
2. Press and hold the Volume down button and the Power button.
3. When the LG logo is displayed release the Power button only then immediately press and hold the Power button again.
4. Release both buttons when the Factory Hard Reset screen displays.
5. Press the power button three times, like it says. Even though it says it will delete everything, it won't (I can confirm that if you are at least on v2.6.3.2).
6. After a "factory reset processing" appears, you should get the TWRP flash screen, and you are good to go.
Hope this helps someone besides currently frustrated me.
I LOVE YOU! I honestly didn't think this would work but it does and i'm so happy.
just about to make a thread asking how to do this. Glad I searched. way to make you jump through hoops tho.
thanks for this. for me the phone didnt even have to be completely powered off.
i wa sin a sleep of death so i held down power and vol down until lg logo appeared let go and then pressed power again. pressed power 3 more times and it booted into recovery

@jadengore : I was stick in a bootloop, and your thread helps me a lot !
Big thanks !
:good:
Also, if you're too scared to try that, I've had success using rom toolbox to reboot into recovery. Of course this is assuming you have a working system.
Thanks very much, but...
Hello,
I unfortunately dropped my VS980, cracked the screen, and the digitizer only works on the bottom portion of the screen. I have a new screen coming, which should fix this issue, however I would like to get my data off my phone (pics), but I can't as I have a password (draw a line/shape kind) and without being able to enter this in, it will not connect to my PC as mass storage.
I was hoping to be able to boot into recovery with hardware buttons and get my data that way, not sure if that is possible either, but at least try it. This I found to work to get me to the factory hard reset screen, but I am skeptical to push the power button and have it wipe my data!
I am open to other options to get to my data if anyone has any, including android device manager which is something I have thought of, but not sure if I can reset the security to nothing, or maybe as the bottom portion of my digitizer seems to work, I can enter in a space or a period for a password and enter that in.
Looking for any guidance!
Thanks!
Got it!
Redid the password with android device manager, which got me in, but I didn't even need to do that as I had the brainwave to plug a mouse in with a usb adapter. Works flawlessly, got my data, now just waiting for replacement screen!
Strange Problem
I am using F-320K[G2], Cloudy G3 Rom, when I hit boot into recovery it does bring me to TWRP but hardware buttons doesn't work. It just restarts the phone.

steps to enter recovery that worked for my Sprint LG G2 on ZVC firmware.
1) hold power and volume down button till you see LG logo -- quickly release these buttons and
2) immediately hold power and volume up buttons to enter into factory reset menu.
Then 3 presses of power key to confirm wipe and enter TWRP recovery. :good:
I was going mad trying to enter recovery for an hour. It appears like different models/software versions have different key combinations for entering recovery mode.
My phone was stuck at lg logo screen and i didnt have nandroid backup of the phone. so couldn't try the TOT restore method too as i waned my phone data.
Another way to get to Custom Recovery

The way that let me get into custom recovery is different.
I hold 'vol up+power+vol down' to start from turned off state and keep holding it[Don't leave just keep holding the 3 buttons]. It doesn't show factory reset screen, it get me into TWRP[Custom Rom] directly. I heard 3 buttons gets u in safe mode IDK but I got into proper working TWRP.

if anybody's looking for the information in this thread like i was, and the posted method doesn't work (it did not for me):
1. Power off
2. Hold volume down and power
3a. release both at logo AND press BOTH at logo right after releasing
4a. Enter recovery
You should enter recovery, but if not...

this worked omg...thanks a million...
Just wanted to contribute here in case anyone else had tried everything listed in this thread and still was unable to boot into TWRP.
I'm on Sprint, stock, rooted ZVE, and I have TWRP 2.7.
1. Power off phone, wait a few seconds to make sure phone is completely off.
2. Hold power and volume down.
3. As soon as LG logo appears, KEEP holding down power... BUT release volume down and SWITCH to holding volume up.
4. After a few seconds, screen appears saying "Recovery mode" and TWRP opens up after that.
