Overclocking your droid2 - Droid 2 General

Hello all, I'm relatively new to the community, but its been such a huge help I wanted to contribute something I hadnt seen yet but something I'm sure most anyone with a droid2 might want to try, so without further ado
~~~~~OVERCLOCKING GUIDE for DROID2~~~~~
!!!WARNING/DISCLAIMER!!!
This process can possibly damage your phone and phone CPU if abused or used incorrectly, and may also cause your phone to lock up and restart and possibly bootloop itself,!!!MAKE BACKUPS!!! and if bootlooping occurs, go into the stock recovery and clear data/factory reset to restore bootup process.
I am not responsible for any damages which may occur. GOODLUCK
~Things you need~
1. To be rooted (works on Froyo 2.2 and Gingerbread 2.3, including CM7 and custom roms)
2. Access to the App Market VIA cell network or wireless internet (downloading overclocking apps)
3. Milestone Overclock and SetCPU (both available in the market to download)
~Steps for Overclocking your phone~
1. Make sure Both apps listed in the needed section have been installed
2. Open up Milestone Overclock and it will look like
{
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
3. Click on the Load module button and it will look like
What we have done thus far, is loaded into the kernel of the OS custom CPU clock settings, which we can edit at will with this application.
4. Set what you want the maximum cpu clock speed and also the vsel setting (hit the button on the bottom left of phone to access this )
The vsel is the voltage used by the cpu so be careful when changing this setting. (the stock voltage is 66 on my droid, others may be different)
5. Once that is done hit ok and then the back button on your phone.
6. Now go into your apps and open up SetCPU which should give you this
7. Click on Autodetect Speeds (Recommended) which will then give you this
8. With the slider bars, you can control the max and min speed of the cpu, so with the top bar, slide it all the way to the right to achieve the new maximum speed you want for your phone.
(its auto set to use max speed on demand and idle down to min speed when not in use)
You can change this usage by switching the scaling from ondemand to performance which will keep the cpu at max speed 24/7.
9. Now that your phone is overclocked, you need to perform a stress test on the cpu to make sure your setting are stable enough to run at the maximum speed you have chosen for any length of time, in order to do this, go into the Info tab in SetCPU and scroll to the bottom of the list in order to find the stress test utility
10. Once you have overclocked your phone, play around with certain apps and the web browser to see if you can tell a speed increase in how fast apps load and how fast content responds.
In case anyone is curious as to the settings I currently use.
~Settings~
Maximum CPU speed = 1.3Ghz/1300Mhz
Voltage = 66 vsel (system default)
Both are set on load at boot and so far I'm completely stable.
If this guide has been helpful in any way, feel free to add to my thanks points
Thanks, worked great
Imagio Overclock? HTC Performance
hey everyone!
I have been loving my imagio with the Orange Slim Rom on it, but there is always room for improvement... i have been reading about the HTC Performance overclock for the older qualcomm processors msm7x00, and was wondering if anyone had tried it on our Qualcomm 7600..
Anyone Care to be the first to try it? Im kinda scared since i dont have insurance on my phone.
Hey, I'm giving it a go now. As they say, you only live once, right? Or twice (insurance helps with that ). By the way, the cab you have didn't have the shortcuts to make the actual changes. I found one labeled "__with_shortcut_" floating around the internet somewhere that actually let me use the thing. It's about the same file size.
I haven't noticed anything too dramatic, but here's some of the things I think got better:
- Lists like the contacts or All Applications seem to come up faster.
- Populates the complete lists of songs on the touch flo music library much faster and maintains them better, especially after a reboot when everything's fresh.
- Speeds through the phone's setting menus now, where it used to slow down in a lot of places.
- Google Maps approximates my location the moment it starts now, whereas it used to take a couple seconds after coming up (I don't know why that is since it finds you first by using cell towers, but it's just better at it.) It also loads the maps faster when moving around.
- Weather animations appear smoother.
That's about it. No other applications load or work any faster for me, and animations are just as smooth as they've always been. I've enabled landscape support for just about everything on the phone, and nothing rotates faster either. That said, I'm running the Imagio's stock rom with nothing more than the SSK TP2 Dynamic Resource Proxy and Manila NoPushInternet to keep the memory usage down, so I don't really know how what it'll do for a custom rom. I'm really considering removing it though, since the gains I've seen are too small to run the risk of bricking my phone or draining the battery faster, which I feel like it's doing. It is very stable though, so I see no problem in giving it a try. It never locked up and nothing crashed. Hope your experience fares better.
Thanks for the Review of this app. I think more people (including myself) will feel a little bit more confident in using this app, knowing that we havent had any brick problems... Everyone that has downloaded this app please leave your view on if this app really works or not.
SPB Benchmark is very long in the tooth, but using mainly the gfx & cpu tests on
a fresh install of nrgy may 16th:
stock 524mhz VS dynamic 624mhz clock:
using nuedynamic clock to underclock the phone 384mhz VS 122mhz Note the voltage was set to 0 (least):
FWIW i also tried the near defunct nueoverclocktest cab to go from 524mhz to 768mhz. i hard locked ASA i switched it to 768mhz on both AC power and 100% batt power.
http://www.nuerom.com/BlogEngine/post/2009/09/07/nueOverClockTest.aspx
so in conclusion, i highly doubt HTC Performance does anything AFA changing clocks & we apparently can't overclock.
Does this really work for HTC Mega (T3333)?
How can i test the CPU speed?
Is there any prog for testing?
Thanks.
Fix for 4.4.2 kernel core throttling with Pegasusq governor
OK, this is an update that goes beyond my general discussion on 4.4.2 vs 4.2.2 differences,
I have completely figured out how to make Pegasusq properly throttle cores, and tweaked it to be more like ondemand in fast upscaling of core speeds.
3
It matches what I have with 4.2.2 and allows a stable read ahead cache of 768. Anything higher will cause a dirty shutdown.
Here are my screen captures of a 3 minute time frame of the frequencies used after and during boot, and my settings. Please be sure to copy your settings down before changing them.
Update
After a bit of testing further with newly updated apps along with some that I rarely check, as their startup interfaces are more gimmick over their function, I realized that I needed to push my settings further. So, I have made further optimizations that have replaced some of the original screenshots. There are a few changes that were not done previously, thst are now incorporated to allow for better throttling.
My final settings
OK, I am finally done with this! A lot of issues were with xposed. To remedy strange CPU throttling, ended up using the beta test version with my odd mix of modules. Not sure which module does not play well with others but did find it interesting that wanam allowed customizations to the status and notification bars when my CPU throttling was bad. So bad it would not go into power save mode with CPU throttling. Once I removed xposed and installed the test version, wanam would not do much custom changes to the status and notification bars.
Obviously one of the new modules I am using blocks such changes.
Well any way, I can safely use 2048 read ahead cache, and build.prop mods with my tweaks.
So now kitkak is kickass,.
Wanam xposed modules cause core throttlng issues
Well after a lengthy bout of hunting issues with apps causing throttling issues, I was thwarted by Wanam and xposed. First of when I uninstalled exposed, my tablets ability to throttle 300 and 400 went out the door and never came back. Though by some odd instance in testing I managed to get 300 and 400 to be utilized. Primary concern is nnow with wanam, as it is a battery sucker... Tests have shown all wanam modules will throttle the CPU cores when no loads are being put on the system. I am now pushing 8% drain per hour with browsing and switching to apps. Had a few reboots after making system tweaks, 4 ttotal. Each one takes about 1% of battery.
Not happy at all, as I expected better compatibility with 4.4.x
So now I am wondering if throttling is effected by disabling DVFS, if that can be done? Seems like the wanam DVFS Disabler also has issues like its bigger counterparts. I stopped using wanam now on the 4.4.2 tablet. As it is flaky with power consumption,.
[Q] Any good *working* CPU profile apps like Set CPU?
I'm on lollipop so I just noticed but SetCPU hasn't been working for a while.
I need a program where I can say
When screen goes off -> underclock to X, importance 5
When battery at 50% underclock to Y, importance 1
When battery at 35% underclock to Z, importance 2
etc.
I only want it for underclocking. The build in battery control doesn't do much and my battery life is pretty terrible when I use the phone (screen on) a lot. I've tried CPU control pro and it would only allow me to set single profile, not have it changing interactively. If anyone has any good apps they've been using let me know, I need to do something about this.
Thanks!
Since over/underclocking requires root the answer is there is no such thing for lollipop
I am rooted, on JasmineROM 5.1 (LP 5.0). I just followed the instructions avoiding the OTA and retained root. The CPU control programs I've found work for one setting, just not with profiles.
Let me widen the question out. Does anyone have any good CPU control utilities for LP or KK?
I know there is no going back one you're unrooted on LP although I've heard if you go back to 4.4.4 there is a method.
Battery draining-Heating problem [Best Advice]
Battery draining-Heating problem [Best Advice]
Advice I
Most modern devices are running at much higher clock speeds than necessary.
What is the obvious problem, it is how many devices are very poorly optimized governor
(Auto-switching frequency and the number of cores in the processor), depending on the current task.)
For example, when watching a video from YouTube processor all times hammered with 8 cores and at maximum frequency.
In order to reduce unnecessary waste of resources of our phone:
-Battery-draining
-Heating problem
(Maximum speed and core busy for unnecessary actions)
No-frills CPU
app from google play, you need Root authority.
We limit the processor speed to max 1,183 GHz
(In these settings can be played Asphalt 8 to a maximum settings.)
With tools (Mobileuncle Tools etc.)
which enable tweaking of the MTK android phones
(allow you to run Advanced Setup)
go to Engineering Mode Menu
and deactivate MTK Logger.
Sometimes MTK Logger:
just takes a smartphone from a deep sleep
and holding unnecessary strained memory.
[Tutorial] How to boost performance on all Gpad Models (Requires Root)
OK so I am writing this after experiencing absolutely horrible performance on pretty much all android games even low graphic games, I was having games stutter so bad I legitimately thought something was wrong with the hardware on my Gpad tablet. Turns out the issue is with the tablets horribly built kernel and governors. By default it seems that the Gpad's stock kernel GPU governor wont kick in to high performance regardless of whats running. No idea why this is but I have a solution that has 100% worked every single time with several confirmed tests. Please note that I am doing this on the latest rooted lollipop found here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g-pad-83/development/vk810-4g-official-lollipop-5-0-2-35a08-t31136
Please see the steps below.
Step 1: Go to the google play store and download an app called "Trickster MOD Kernel Settings" and install it
Step 2: Open the Tricker MOD app
Step 3: tap on the 3 lines near the top left of the app to open the menu.
{
}
Step 4: Tap on "General" on the menu you just opened and scroll down to where it says "CPU Governor Control" and change it to "Interactive" then click the checkmark on the top to save the settings.
Step 5: Next again open the menu by tapping the 3 lines on the top left and then tap on "Specific". Then change "Temperature Throttle" to "ON". Then change the "GPU Governor" to "ondemand". Finally change the "GPU Max Frequency" to "400" (or the highest it will go, depends on Gpad model)
Step 6: Tap on the checkmark on the top again to save and apply the settings.
Step 7 (Optional): You can have the app apply the settings upon every boot automatically by checking "Kernel Settings". In the "SET ON BOOT" section on the top right.
That's it! Just exit the app and the settings will be applied, You might need to restart the game if its already open to see an improvement.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My Results: Tested with framerate counter from GLTools app.
Asphalt 8:
Before: AVG 13-14 FPS on Medium
After: AVG 27-30 FPS on Medium
Crossy Road:
Before: AVG 22-35 FPS (Framerate was very inconsistent on this game before and stuttered horribly)
After: AVG 48-60 FPS (98% of the time it was 60 FPS)
Asphalt Xtreme:
Before: AVG 23-26 FPS (Framerate was also very random on this one)\
After: AVG 28-30 FPS
What CPU temperature did you get?
Couldn't one do this all with kernel adiutor?
There's no 'interactive' governor listed on my tablet (V496). How can you create an interactive profile?
