hey everyone!
I have been loving my imagio with the Orange Slim Rom on it, but there is always room for improvement... i have been reading about the HTC Performance overclock for the older qualcomm processors msm7x00, and was wondering if anyone had tried it on our Qualcomm 7600..
Anyone Care to be the first to try it? Im kinda scared since i dont have insurance on my phone.
Hey, I'm giving it a go now. As they say, you only live once, right? Or twice (insurance helps with that ). By the way, the cab you have didn't have the shortcuts to make the actual changes. I found one labeled "__with_shortcut_" floating around the internet somewhere that actually let me use the thing. It's about the same file size.
I haven't noticed anything too dramatic, but here's some of the things I think got better:
- Lists like the contacts or All Applications seem to come up faster.
- Populates the complete lists of songs on the touch flo music library much faster and maintains them better, especially after a reboot when everything's fresh.
- Speeds through the phone's setting menus now, where it used to slow down in a lot of places.
- Google Maps approximates my location the moment it starts now, whereas it used to take a couple seconds after coming up (I don't know why that is since it finds you first by using cell towers, but it's just better at it.) It also loads the maps faster when moving around.
- Weather animations appear smoother.
That's about it. No other applications load or work any faster for me, and animations are just as smooth as they've always been. I've enabled landscape support for just about everything on the phone, and nothing rotates faster either. That said, I'm running the Imagio's stock rom with nothing more than the SSK TP2 Dynamic Resource Proxy and Manila NoPushInternet to keep the memory usage down, so I don't really know how what it'll do for a custom rom. I'm really considering removing it though, since the gains I've seen are too small to run the risk of bricking my phone or draining the battery faster, which I feel like it's doing. It is very stable though, so I see no problem in giving it a try. It never locked up and nothing crashed. Hope your experience fares better.
Thanks for the Review of this app. I think more people (including myself) will feel a little bit more confident in using this app, knowing that we havent had any brick problems... Everyone that has downloaded this app please leave your view on if this app really works or not.

using nuedynamic clock to underclock the phone 384mhz VS 122mhz Note the voltage was set to 0 (least):
FWIW i also tried the near defunct nueoverclocktest cab to go from 524mhz to 768mhz. i hard locked ASA i switched it to 768mhz on both AC power and 100% batt power.

so in conclusion, i highly doubt HTC Performance does anything AFA changing clocks & we apparently can't overclock.

Does this really work for HTC Mega (T3333)?
How can i test the CPU speed?
Is there any prog for testing?
Thanks.

I'm considering making the move from the Blue Angel to the Wizard. The only thing is that I keep hearing that the device is slow so I wanted second opinions. It definitely didn't help that the device took so long to switch teh screen to horizontal mode in the cnet review video:
http://reviews.cnet.com/T_Mobile_MDA/4505-6452_7-31678156.html
The Wizard isn't all that slow, to me, its almost feels the same as using the apache. even though it runs at 200mhz, it is a dual core processor. overclocking it 240mhz also makes it faster. tweaks and hacks can speed up overall peformance and decrease the time to switch to horizontal mode when pulling out the keyboard.
I went from a BA to the wizard. and in day to day use i see no major speed diference. even my gps navigation software runs at about the same speed. go for it i dont regret my move to the wizard for a second
i find the wizard generally slow but i can understand why its done. I have 3 day battery life and great features and this is at a trade off of being slightly slower.
I run an xda 1 and 2i and find it slower running some apps than both devices
tomtom is a good example, runs faster epecially starting up faster, on the xda 1 and 2i but by choice i always carry and use the wiz for everything. The others are back up devices for me

it's slow but can process everything.
In the past month and a half, I've gone through the Blue Angle, Exec (not sure what that's called), and now finally the Wizard.
So far, the wizard has been the absolute fastest of all. MUCH faster than the Exec!
b
The was slow for me at first but then I upgraded to the "unofficial 2.24" version and it's much faster for me now.
I also have a program called x-cpu which can modify the device to have a 100mhz processor up to a 500mhz processor however it will disrupt services such as bluetooth...not sure about the phone though but the dang thing was lightning fast when that program was running.

Depends on how you intend using it. I have used almost all the Models of HTC and believe it or not WIZARD is one of the best when it comes to the battery backup. See the POST ON THE TOP BY maltloaf Maybe we can relate this to a slower(though slower is no the appropriate word) rather controlled speed.
But mind it please, if you have an address book of more than 4000 contacts with 5- 6 entries in every Contact Including E mail id and web address, u might find it hanging while using SPB diary for example.
Keep a watch on this thread and read others experiences.
This FORUM Is excellent and enriching !!
I was disappointed at first because it was to me it seems like running xp on a 386. I figured what the heck I don't like it now so I'll update the roms and get rid of all the misc junk Tmobile put on and overclock the thing. Wow, what a difference, it's a heck of alot faster, runs everything and is generally a pleasure to use. I've clocked it up to 240mhz but found beyond that it will drop a phone call now & then. It's a great little machine.
... runs smooth to me, coming from a SK2. Overclocking helps, but at 180 on the 2.24 rom I have no complaints!
Sometimes I wish it could be quicker, but the most lovely thing is to work with different programs opened simultaniously without any problems, like: SKYPE (high cpu), pRSSreader, IE, Word, TRE register-editor and WMP all together without any lapses in the music-sound.
The only problem is the battery-life while continiously surfing the web: it lasts only 1½ hr.

I have a Wizard and ever since I downloaded Total Commander & overclocked it to 240Mhz, the performance speed increased significantly. However, I've been trying to run Skype on it without any success. It just doesn't find an internet connecton. Can anyone help?
since our wizards are not so powerful in sense of cpu and memory, is it better to have almost clean rom without touchflo and htc home and those functions to replace with spb pocketplus and weather, or even with more simple rltoday + some other weather plugin (without smart scrolling function)?
Hum... thats one of those questions thats kinda up to you decide what works best, according to your needs. If you really want a clean ROM, meaning standard apps and all, you go with the official ROM's from your phone provider.
I rather use specific software to do what I need than use a plugin that does everything and some stuff I don't want.

This is from usability point of view, and what is better from performance point of view? All you need (and do not need) in rom or light rom with lot of add-on softwares?
Lets see... if you have all the apps built in the ROM, you won't be able to remove them if an update comes along, you can overwrite them tho, meaning you'll have probably some junk after a while.
If you have a light ROM, if its really good, you won't have any problems with it and you can install whatever you wish as an add-on. Sometimes when you put some software thats not supposed to work with our devices (like HTC Home Plugin, for example) it will slow it down... but if you have it built in on the ROM, it works just fine. That is due to memory allocation problems that do exist on the WM devices. For instance, that was what kept us from installing the Touchflo drivers on Wizard WM5 devices.
Hope that helps you
programs inside the rom dont use any storage or ram of a device unless started
not using all the space in the rom dont make it faster really
so it's better if one removes something to put something else in it's place
because programs installed my the user does! take up storage
and of cause only ram if started
dferreira, as i can see you are using wm5. why? is your build of wm5 faster then original one (i have t-mobile). currently i am using pdaviet wm6 built.
after flashning it i was surprised how fast it was. but now after few installed softwares and a month of using it seems to getting slower. is it just my imagination or you also have that experience?
Any ROM behaves like that after a while. Maybe is something to do with the trash WM leaves behind everytime we install something.
Why I use WM5? Because that's the OS that came with our devices. From what I've tested, there isn't a single WM6 that does work without any bugs (missing calls, wifi not working, etc). Also I find that WM6 makes our device drain the battery a lot faster. So I decided to make a WM5 ROM with the stuff we miss the most on WM6.
i presumed that this is similar to windows installed to pc. i will wait for your new 5.1 release and then will give a chance again to wm5.
for sure i will not miss htc cube or flo.
what about better memory management in wm6? is it possible to improve it in wm5?

There's profiles button in the app. You click it, then you enable selected profile and set your CPU speed for it.
The only one I use us to underclock the phone when it's on standby. Can't really tell if it helps as today is the first day I'm using it.

For now, SetCPU will have no effect when running on rooted Desires.
When you pull the sliders across, it seems to have no effect, and the green max and min frequencies remain unchanged. HTC has a driver that they implement which keeps overriding SetCPU. We need to hope they (HTC) release the Kernel source. Once this happens, there will surely be a release of a modified Kernel with SetCPU support and overclocking/undervolting.
Problem is HTC is really slow in releasing the GPL'ed Kernal source, it's borderline, illegal, and very irritating

are they still doing this as setcpu seems ok for me
For use it..you must have a kernel with patched init.rc to load modules on start
and you have to install permanent perflock disable and cpu govenor (interactive and powersave)
and mybe the new sense undervolt

Hi guys!
I recently came up with a new issue on my HTC Vision (Desire Z, french).
The screen would eventually lag while in an intensive CPU program. But by lagging, I mean something very specific, let me explain through an example:
If i'm in a game (it depends which one but it's obvious with Angry Birds or Armored Defense) then i get the screen lag 9 times out of 10.
I hold a bird, then pull it to the left... aim... and let throw! That's the normal way but when I'm pulling, or aiming (moving up/down) the bird would go, without me having released my finger. And often also, it would tap the screen again just a millisecond after, catching again the screen touch. I see it because the bird do its special ability just after the launch in theses cases.
Same thing with tower defense games: i'm dragging a tower to a place and before i can reach the location, the tower places itself on the way. Then the map would drag as if i caught again the screen touch.
If i'm on the homescreen and have fun with sliding between screens, no problem, i can keep my finger on the screen and move it right, left, fast or slow, that will just move the screen fine, as intended. It's smooth. Same with the notification bar. I can move it down/up fast, smooth, for half an hour if i would like to.
So, basically, that's what I call my "screen lag". It's absolutely annoying, in games as in other apps sometimes (it affects pinch zooming as well...).
I noticed though, that in my processes, the android system process is always running high. Is it normal? In OS Monitor, CPU usage is always at 97~98%, from which system takes a fair 70% (more if nothing else runs). Is that a problem? If not, could that be the cause?
Would you like a video with this problem illustrated to understand or was it clear?
Thank you for your time and help!

If lag is your enemy, crank up the CPU you must.
On a side note, I'm not experiencing any lag at all, just tried angry birds and Need for Speed Shift, all seems fine @ 806 MHz
Same here, nfs shift, angry birds,
Aasphalt, fifa,.... all fine on stock speed. Only reason I've oc'd is to get rid of that millisecond lag on the homescreen, not that it was an issue, I'm just anal.
You can use a process monitor (like watchtower) to find out which process is messing with your CPU.
I'm having a problem where bluetoothd and logcat2 are using up the cpu when I enable BlueTooth. You could try turning it of to see if you have the same problem.
Hi.
Thank you all for your answers.
@omarsalmin, @wileykat
As i mentioned, i did not have that before. Not at all, I played the three first packs of Angry bird just fine. It has to do with some app installation I guess. But I don't know which one, and I'm not rooted. So probably ockling the CPU won't help. What's more, i'd like to keep my battery life as now, which is already so low...
@rajackar
I used OS Monitor to notice that I had a process taking over 70%. And as i wrote, it's "system" (named "Système Android" in french). Also, I keep having he problem with everything off (all i can turn off has been so), and just after a reboot (fast reboot disabled).
How could I find the cause of my system process eating all CPU?
Big thanks guys.
Your not running any task managers are you?.... I used TaskPanelX on my Hero for about 9 months thinking it was beneficial but when I uninstalled and rebooted everything ran smoother. I have tested on the DZ and got the same result.
I'm only launching OS Monitor from time to time, to check things, but close it then (the clean way, complete exit, not just minimize). I'm not running anything else, at least which I know about. Anyway, the problem came before I installed tools for checking. And also, the process involved here is "system".
Can anyone tell me if OS Monitor (or another process monitor but I would like to compare with same app) shows a low CPU usage when not doing anything? Or is it a OS Monitor issue, showing the system process to take all the remaining CPU power?
Thank you
Great ROM, stable, no lag. But I have noticed some bugs or weird features in Team-Nocturnals Shooter, GB 2.3.4 Sense 3.0 dodge kernel 1.6, HTC Evo Shift 4g
1. It's near to imposible to add HTC widgets to the home screens because when the desired widget is selected, the system returns to the customize home screen section, so the widget isn't added or very rare.
2. When managing apps, if you go to the app details, sometimes it will start to compute the size of the app changing numbers very fast; If you click on the Move to SD card when the numbers are changing, you will move another app (not selected) or get error messages.
3. The Quick settings area at notification area show as second line 'Javascript' or 'Navigate away from this page?' in most options.
Question: Is it posible to use wide backgrounds and move between home screens moving the background to? I don't see how.
this should be posted on the roms post

hehehe Ok, I will do it, this is a very nice ROM and I want to help to find any issue as user.
Thanks
Ok, tnx a lot. I'll do it.
In the meanwhile, I noticed that the apps moved to a SD card and added to any home screen, will lose their stock icon in the next boot, showing the generic android app icon. That's another issue with this rom.
This is a probably more a question than a incident. I use an app to protect apps from running without a pin or password to protect privacy. Smart applock Pro. I used the stock rom, cm7 based, sense based, and this is the only rom where I'm getting a message from the market telling that the app is not suitable for my device.
The free version doesn't show that message, and was installed without any trouble. Developer or ROM issue? I will check.

i have the same issue here. this works in mikg. but not in shooter... i've done a full wipe too.... any ideas?
Suddenly with this rom my cel become more and more unstable, I got frequent reboots, some lags and error messages. And even I never had the video playing issue (I read somewhere people with an issue when playing video) it finally appear . Plus now, when a I get a call, the caller id image is like garbage video. I liked this rom at first because is fast and has the best sense I've seen since the stock rom. But I'm not using it anymore, I changed briefly to MikRunny beta (sense 3.5), it's a little heavier than this, but better I think. I returned to a cm7 based rom because MikRunny is at beta stage and I noticed the enable/disable 3g control is broken and I can't switch between networks easy, just rebooting.
May be the celphone became unstable because I was trying different values for the cpu clock and governor. I was using dodge kernel and played with smartass, ondemand and interactive governor settings, and with bfq and deadline schedulers. My best experience was with deadline and ondemand scheduler. It was as if I had a new and faster phone.
