Congratz man! I know they say wimax is not even real 4G but it does have great speeds. Plus you can't really call hspa+ or lte real 4G either. Good to know Sprint is still expanding wimax even with there deal with lightsquared

Awesome! I like how Sprint's still quietly sneaking out the 4G. We just got 4G in select parts of Des Moines within the last couple months But no word from Sprint and most of the Sprint customers I meet tell me I'm full of it when I say we got 4G here, lol.
ALL HAIL OTAKING71, THE RAPER OF HBOOT!!!
Any word on how far the signal goes outside of Waterloo (Cedar Falls?)
We supposedly have a 4g tower. You must have to go stand at the base of it to get a signal, though.
3g is pretty bad. But where I live in downtown los angeles. The 4g is really all over the place depending on how tall the building you are next to is. Inside my loft its very all over the place. No biggie. Just was hoping it would be a bit more stable in certain areas.

I have yet to pick up 4g with my shift. Even when in Nashville, Tn.
Nor the town I work in where there are 4g towers as well.
Stood right next to a VZW guy last night and he was telling me about his charge, he was standing there on 4g. I was sad. =*(
I'm not having much issues with 3g speeds, but I was running stock Vanilla.
I just got around to rooting last night.
Got MikShifted loaded up for now, see if I like it.
Looks like i'ma have to re-flash already, to many apps I wont use. =*(
Why do you have to reflash? Why not just remove the stuff you don't want?

You know you can remove those right? Its not like stock, if you use something like titanium to remove them, then they are gone, not back at reboot.

The signal is limited to the downtown area. Cedar Falls does not get any service from the 4G, and it cuts off right at the Fletcher exit on 218. Also it doesn't go past 18th Street Bridge and barely crosses Washington St to the west side. Crossroads has VERY faint 4G.
I have 1 solid bar in my house on the west side and its awesome. I have full signal on 218 (I assume the tower is near Tech Works).

that sucks! people there complain about anything even if its for their benefit! if they dont want it to be there, maybe clearwire should find another place to put their antennas on! i want my 4G here in sf...
Well I'm out in the flatlands of the East bay in Concord, and the closest 4G is the small downtown area of Nut Creek. Sprint, hook us up!!
This is frustrating as **** for those of us who have been waiting, and waiting for these assholes to get their **** together. Yeah, we know San Francisco has a crazy permit and building process - but this is ridiculous. What about San Mateo County? We're total 4G-less while Santa Clara County is almost all the way lit up.
Embarrassing.

I can confirm there is 4G in parts of Fremont. Been using it for a few weeks now.
I'm on 4g right now! Turk and Taylor.
I've left my radio on to search since I got the phone, and only one phantom hit until today.
It's dropped a couple times now, but it keeps coming back. Almost an hour of 4g at this location.
Edit...
Not that impressed with the speed tests so far, but the upload is crazy fast...for a cell phone.
.5 Mbps down, 1.1Mbps up.
Not much better than the 3g, really.
Screen shots taken...now, to get Dolphin to let me attach them...
Alright...screw dolphin. Screenshotsuploaded via Opera mobile.
Who needs a computer? (alright...i borrowed one to get root, but I'm without, and happy now...)
There is sprint 4g service in San Francisco NOW!

Very interesting.
I get my fastest 3G access around Grant and O'farrell. A bit over 2Mbits down.
Well...it seems to have gotten better. It's still access going about the same as the 3g... And tethering is SLOW. I'd say slower than with 3g, which is weird, but other people have reported the danger thing... I just looked.
So far, I'm not impressed. The icon looks cool, but I had better performance with 3g on average.
Maybe it's dialed down for testing before an official release?
My girlfriend said she got a 4G signal today in the FiDi, near 2nd and Mission. Think I might switch to a Sense ROM for a few days...

That's pretty good! I am going to be driving there in a bit, might try it out.
What part of Fremont have you been getting 4G? I've been getting a signal in Union City but only during the day strangely.
It looks like Clearwire has been putting in some work, after almost a year of having a 4G phone I just found out tonight I can actually use it now. And looking on sensorly map viewer it looks like it is popping up everywhere.
Anyone else just get it? Now seems like a good time to go hunting for it.

I'm really surprised Detroit doesn't have it yet, Sprint must not be very popular there I'm guessing? Next time you're outside somewhere try holding your phone from the bottom right corner and seeing if it tries to connect to Sprint, when I was driving around earlier there where a bunch of places where it would say Connecting to Sprint but disconnect and sitting the phone down or blocking the wimax antenna killed the signal like no other.

I would say Sprint is pretty popular here in the Metro Detroit area. Everyone I know has Sprint. I just can't believe how they just randomly pick areas to turn on 4G. Makes no sense to me.
Memphis here, by the time we get 4g it will be a thing of the past...
still nothing here :/
In Alabama, no 4G yet, probably will get it 2 days after the apocolypse.
Check www.clear.com/coverage and zoom in on your city, they are turning on random towers all over the place.

I have the Epic and I've been seeing this happen too... they just lit up 4g in the Lansing, MI area.
I wonder if their Feb announcement is going to be SVDO, cmda iPhone or 4g nationwide coverage.... what's your gut feel?
According to the map, Bowling Green, KY has 4G coverage???????
But not the major Kentucky cities?????? Wow!

I'm 1000% sure you will have it long before Coffeyville does. I'm just happy I have 3G and that its a lot faster than Verizon 3G in this area.

Whether they can get the 4G turned on in specific areas depends on a variety of factors - including obtaining the permits from the local cities, easement rights from the property owner if they're not hopping on an existing tower, etc.
Places they WANT to provide service versus where they're ALLOWED to provide service don't always go hand in hand.

Just like the Sprint map it says I'm covered, but the damn 4g signal sucks at penetrating buildings. I have to be next to a window to get a "poor" connection on my phone.
So, upon visiting a local Sprint store to attempt to preorder a Nexus S 4G, I was waiting for a Sprint rep to not be busy. This gave me time to look at the EVO on display (mainly because I wanted to compare my awesome Gingerbread to stock Froyo ).
I looked at the statusbar, and I noticed a 4G icon with some service...I instantly enabled 4G on my phone and was stoked because I highly doubted Gainesville would ever get 4G, so this made me think that only the Sprint store was broadcasting a small 4G signal to demonstrate the speeds to customers (pretty unlikely, I know), but upon leaving, I drove a few miles away, and still, I had full 4G service. As long as I am not in an area with an excessive amount of trees, I have decent service...soo happy
I guess I am one of the few using this service, because I have some pretty decent speeds for WiMax (about 2x what I have gotten in Tampa).
www.clear.com/coverage and zoom in random towers are popping up all over the county. Its "Clear on the go" coverage...
awesome i never thought they would have it there i live in tampa so i know how gainesville is crongrats!
you just made my day, been at UF all this time with my EVO and no 4G
LMAO i cant believe you guys didn't even try it i usually test everything where ever i go to see what i can connect to lol.
After months and months of nothing, you sort of give up on it. At least that's how I have been. But that Clear coverage link jefbal99 posted says there might be some a few miles away (Peoria, IL area). I'll have to drive to that area and see what I can get. But, even with zooming in, no antenna icons ever show up on the map, just light green. Maybe it's not as hopeless as I had figured.
Which Sprint store were you at when you connected?

The light green areas don't list the towers, just coverage. I can verify that every place I've been with light green gets 4G connection.
If you are on a Sense ROM, here is a good thread with info on making 4G connect with a weaker signal and stay connected longer. I used is successfully before my switch to CM7
Are you reporting 4G on the uf campus?

I'm glad we finally got coverage in UF... what sucks is that they're using such a high frequency for the WiMax service. The signal just bounces off the walls and doesn't penetrate well into the buildings, especially the concrete UF buildings.

Sprint is running currently all of the data traffic on a extremely small amount of servers. This means that everyone that is trying to use the internet on their cellphones on sprint is running on the same highway. So speeds are going to be really slow. What does this mean for us? Sprint is upgrading and testing new 4G towers and servers. This is an internal data BTW. Places like the top of LQ Cove have weak 4G signal and places like the Costco JackntheBox area have strong out door signal. North indio as well as the K-mart area in indio have weak 4G. So switch over to 4G in those areas and test it. Please comment bellow if you have found places with 4G signal in the Coachella Valley. What a coincidence that we are starting to get 4G since before Coachella fest.
What??????

Currently in Cathedral City, next to Date Palm, I am getting a fair signal and hitting speeds averaging 125 kB/s down and 15 kB/s up.
3g seemed to be working quite well, did some speedtests and I'm getting 1.5meg down and .5meg up. For curiousity sake I turned on the 4g radio and connected.
So Walla Walla now has 4g service! Can't get it in my house, but if I walk out the front door it connects lol. I barely connect to it, doesn't show any bars, but it pulls down about 3megs.
Thanks sprint! 1yr of premium data, and I can finally use it!
I want it in Michigan
They must have came through here and done the network vision, my 3g was always 200-400k. 4G I figured we'd be the last to get. But browsing on 3g, etc... seems close to my wifi. Now if I could just grab a 4g signal inside lol

Back up to 1 meg on 3g, so far so good.
