hey i got an error when formating cache system and data any advice ?
Are you using CWM from uSD or internal? Latest version of CWM?
A strong suggestion for askers, pls provide basic info of your system when asking a question.
The OP's question above is more like "it doesn't work, what next?", that's it, no info, nothing.

If you are using a version of CWR older than 3.2.0.1, update it & the errors will go away.

How long have you had your nook color? My guess with the limited information provided is that you have a newer nook with the newer partitions... you will probably have to find the repartition thread and adjust the partitions.

I am having the same issue and here is information from my situation.
Nook Color Refurb....Blue Dot
CWM 3.0.2.8
Got hosed with the 1.3 uupdate
Had rooted 1.2 Stock OS runnigng fine till 1.3. Followed instructions for Re-Rooting but could not get full market. Followed clear cache yadayada and could still not get full market.
Decided to go CM7. Did full backup and went to wipe data/cache etc. When I select cache it errors on format other two fine. Restore backup same error on format cache but brought me back to kinda stock OS but not fully the same.
I would like to co CM7 but just need reliable root for 1.3 to get full market if that is all I can get.
Thanks

Good question! I'm guessing he means it will continuously boot into CWR, but I thought that was a given.....
I am a noob and I want to do the same thing that is restore the nook back to original, so I can start over. I have cleared the system and file, but not yet the cache. Do I have to have an SD card mounted to restore? If so, what files should be on the card (including zipped or unzipped)?
Background. I successfully rooted my nook color. But in trying to download a purchased app from B&N, they pushed an update to a higher version (I think I was using 1.0.1) which bricked the nook. I've been trying to restore ever since. As of now, when I boot, I can get to the ClockworkMod Recovery v3.0.0.5 and navigate through the menus, but when trying to reboot, I can only get to the main ClockworkMod Recovery menu. So far I have tried to reformat the SD card and redownload files to restart, but no luck so far.
Thanks for any help.
If I format those sections will the SD card be wiped? I want to download the latest version from rom manager and start fresh, so I'm wondering will I need to connect to a computer after wiping.

ROM Manager only works when CM7 is installed on the eMMC. If you are running CM7 off an SD card you cannot use it to update ROMS.

Hi there,
I have the NexusHD2-Gingerbread_V3.1a_NAND_(Android-2.3.6) on my HTC HD2 and I downloaded the TyphooN_CM7_v3.6.8-MAGLDR ROM so I installed it following a video tutorial but there was a slight problem, everything went well up until the moment when the phone boot up which it stayed on the android figure for ever, i have waited maybe 20+ minutes for it to load/boot but there was nothing. I re-flash twice but still nothing was happening, it kept locking at the boot up android figure screen. Also took out the battery twice but still nothing, Do you have any ideas why or any other suggestions? Please if you could help that would be most appreciated.
By the way: this was a clean wipe/flash installation thru Clockworks mod
Thanks
Chris

So, I'm new to the world of tablets - the only interaction with them being some light use on my mom's tablet (including rooting it via Iconia Root and installing Acer Recovery Installer v2.54) I was curious about updating via ARI (since she's rooted and being plagued by OTA popups). Back when she first got the tablet, she tried to update and it would stop mid-download, giving no error, and just sit there until she cancelled it (this was before the root). So, basically, my question is: Is it possible to run a stock update (Ie "Stock 3.1 4.010.42_EMEA_GEN3") without having to wipe during install? I have a backup via ARI and also Titanium backup installed but I'd really like to not have to re-install all the apps/set up the homescreen (she's on stock) and stuff. I know on my OG droid that when I installed CM7 I had to do a wipe for it to even get past the boot screen but I figure with this being a stock update maybe it's different...
If not is there some way that I can install an update while keeping the root/system data?

No. If you run the OTA, you WILL lose root. Not to mention I don't have a lot of faith in any device OTA updates. Prior experience, and hanging around various forums, well, you can read the horror stories.
I would advise, if you want to upgrade her OS and get rid of the "pesky" update notifications, is to flash one of the Stock rooted roms available. Or maybe a stripped down version of a Stock rom.
Search the developer section for a rooted version of the stock OTA, there are several in there. Install it via recovery, you only need to wipe dalvik and cache before the install. All of her data and programs will still be there. It will upgrade just fine. Remember wipe Dalvik and cache but do not wipe data and everything will be fine.
get and flash one of the honeylicious rom from the dev area .. good rom very basic apps.. but has a update to get the acer apps back.. and bunch of other cool mods.. the dev is also . kinda trustworthy..
Giggles.. ok he is kewl for a guy yukeeee guys smell..
good luck .. read read read read before you flash anything and of course back up and back up your backups .. then back them up again

Well... if the person was going to do an update to the exact same rom (different version) I would say ok.
But... if you are going to go to a totally different Rom, you NEED to wipe User Data.
Or, does anybody want to tell me you never have to?
3 Wipes. Mandatory when switching between roms, unless you are a dev and know exactly what you are doing.
Or.... you can forget about the safe side of things, and just flash away, and hope luck is with you.
The Market, SHOULD, allow you to re-download apps based on the market version you previously used. If not, it's a good time to clean house of the useless apps.

I wasn't talking about an OTA, I was talking about the stock 'rom' updates via recovery. I've had experiences with phones that have been rooted and accidentally updated via OTA, it's not fun. My phone was actually put into something I like to refer to as the Root limbo lol, bricked it for a small period of time - that was fun fixing it. I didn't have a nandroid at the time so I had to start from scratch...

If you stick with a stock pre-rooted ROM, you won't get stuck in a bootloop like you do some phones. You're just doing an upgrade.
But like doing an upgrade to any other OS without formatting first, you're writing good data over bad, so your mileage may vary.

I can't seem to find any pre-rooted stock Roms on the Developers forum. Links? I know I'm probably being a pain in the ass but I really don't want to get something by mistake and start with scratch on my mom's tablet - if it were mine I wouldn't care. lol

I've never heard of the A500 going into a bootloop simply from flashing one rooted stock ROM to another, but then again most people do all the necessary wipes when they do. Did you wipe dalvik and battery stats? That's about as minimal as you're going to get. If that doesn't work, you'll just have to flash the proper way. Instructions here complete with a video tutorial on how to flash by yours truly:

This is my first post and sort of new to this. I have two simple questions.
1) I am running latest CM7 nightly in mSD for Nook Color. Can I simply place CM7.2-RC1 MiRaGe - KANG build onto mSD to run it? Will the system recognize the file and overwrite my nightly?
2) Can I also downgrade from latest CM7 nightly to a stable release by placing stable release into my mSD?
thanks ahead of time for help.

Yes to both.
thanks for the quick reply.
I have one more question if anyone can answer. Sorry for being noob.
I just start using android/Nook from iOS. I can do just about anything inside iOS.
Here is my question when I update to stable/mirage build does my data and settings retain? This just update (overwrite) nightly and install. Correct?

Something I've been wondering,,,after performing an update build while running off of mSD should we be wiping cache and dalvik cache? And if so, how?
Or is that only a emmc thing?
I would think that even running on mSD both cache would still be needed by the ROM, and therefore could be wiped.
Thanks.
If you're running off verygreen's SASD... it wipes cache when you perform an update.
Arggh!! <smacks hand to forehead>
I've sat and watched the output numerous times during a install/update and noted the "flushing cache" message. duh.

It does not wipe cache. That message means something else. It is just cleaning up after itself.

The only way to wipe cache with a verygreen SD install is to use third party programs like Titanium Backup. It is not really necessary as the system will rebuild the dalvik cache if it needs it. (Actually you can use a specially modified CWM recovery to do it, but not many people have that installed.)
Thanks clearing that up leapinlar.
I gave it a shot using TIB, and it reported 2 files as not needed for a total of 5.1mb removed.
I do remember viewing a thread somewhere in reference to that modified CWM. After review, I felt that taking simple SD image backups would suffice rather than using modified CWM in this instance. Only other benefit to CWM I felt I was lacking is cache cleanup. So looks like I have that covered now.
Thanks again.
