whats the better rom out there?
What modems have provided good results?
What kernels have provided the best battery life?
I love miui rom and glitch kernel!

hows battery with that combo
powerwashed ed05, pbj voodoo kernal, ec09 radio. Battery life avg. 2% per hr and very functional... Powerwashed gingerbread would be my next choice, but it still has the stock kernal. Shouldnt be long before a voodoo kernal becomes available for it.

thanks. looks good. i need to learn the samsung way again.
Just got a fassy off Ebay. I'm excited to be back. Can't wait to get MIUI and glitch kernel back up and running. Anybody wanna buy my MIUI'd DX?

Heres the Breakdown
AOSP roms
CM7 lots of customization/less speed
OMFGB middle ground
Vanilla GB fast / less customization
Pool Party = fast/sbrissens mods ftw
Kernels
JT's always up to date (he's the cm maintainer)
Glitch (head dev is sick so it is taking a little for them to catch up with new commits
+1 for miui and glitch. Right now, however, i'm using jt's 9/12 kernel because flashlight and light sensors are both working. Once the glitch kernel merges in these fixes I'll be back to running it.

Tried reading up on modems but got a little confused. The captivate used to allow direct modem flash through cwm or built directly into rom. Are there any specifics to worry about with modem flashing using odin?
I love CM7 With Glitch kernel v12.
But im currently trying out OMFGB while we wait for a new cm7 nightly.
as far as modems i dunno ive never had to change one
I guess my question about the modem is, when changing is there a progression change that needs to be done, or can I just choose one and flash via odin? When I had my captivate, the modems were built into the roms, so there was no reason for modem flashing.

chose one and flash via odin. Although most roms for the fassy have a modem included... but give the ec09 or ed05 a try... the ec09 has been the best for me. I have tried every modem from dl09, ec01,ed01,ed03,ed04,ed05, and ec09.
ok so the modems do flash along with the rom the way the captivates do. thanks for the info.
EDO5 works perfect for me.

No not really. Usually the fully packed "ED05" or "EC09" (or any of those other older ones like that) roms do include the modem. But the cooked roms usually don't include the modem (I believe). Most definitely not CM7 or MIUI - those keep whatever modem you had before.
In which case, choose a modem (usually people are going between EC09 or ED05) and flash in Odin. It's super simple.

Yeah, thanks I understand. I didnt mean that they always come prepacked with a modem, but the ability to directly flash a modem built into a rom is there. My incredible required modems to be flashed through the bootloader on a more dangerous hardware level. I had the captivate and completely understand the methods, I just needed re-education in the samsung world. Thanks for the response.
Couldn't be happier with my decision and am currently running pwgb v.3. All it needs now is a voodoo kernel. What modem do you guys find works the best? I am currently running the ec09.
After bouncing around on just about all options, pw and ec09 turned out best for me in stability, function and battery with solid performance as well.
Would like a little voodoo though.

I have had my phone rooted and running custom roms for months now. I never had the courage to try a lagfix though. I would like to try now that i have a better understanding of nandroid backups, and titanium backups, and how to use ODIN if necessary.
So my question to all the users is which lagfix works best with the current batch of FROYO roms? Let me know what you guys think, and if you could provide a link to a thread or website that includes instructions on how to apply and reverse the lagfix, i would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks!

There are a few poll threads going around about Froyo. Maybe not lag fixes specifically but it is mentioned often. I find lagfix is less needed on Froyo.
I am using Axura 2.0.5 its very snappy without a lagfix. However there is a VooDoo kernel for it. I don't use it. OCLF seems to not play well yet on some 2.2. Some it does.
TeamWiskey makes good Roms for lagfixes. And Eugene cranks out the cool tweakable kernals and Roms.
There's s alot to checkout, flash away! Search the site and use the Vibrant Bible it has most links you need. The unistal Voodoo is allover the site, just search.
If you don't know yet, always disabled or uninstall any lagfix prior to flashing a new rom. OCLF Iis very easy to uninstall.

So bringing this thread back to life.
I'm on Deodexed/Rooted stock KB5 and my phone lately is lagging a lot.
What lag fix do you guys recommend?
I was thinking about Voodoo?
I've never applied any lagfix.
Is there anything I should consider? Complications? Future flashing problems? Backing up necessary? Unexpected issues I should know about? Etc etc..

Voodoo lagfix. It's pretty much standard now on the vibrant, and there really isn't anything to worry about, assuming you flash a voodoo kernel with a charged battery. But it's so widely supported, you more than likely won't find anything that doesn't support it.

Try the new Darky 10.2 rom. It works good and has voodoo 6 + lagfix.

What is voodoo 6?
I installed kb5 kernel with voodoo and noticed no difference in lag improvement. My phone still lags.
I use toxic 8 with the v6 scripts and bali x kernel. Dragon kernel #1 ran smooth too. fastest my phone has run in past few months with no lag. I only overclock to 1100mhz otherwise it locks up. Good battery life too.

I have a friend getting a fascinate, and he wants me to root / upgrade him to froyo. I will not have much time with his phone, so i cannot try or test multiple roms. I am familiar with the captivate roms (i have one), but i haven't a clue about the fascinate scene.
Which rom provides the most stable froyo user experience on the fascinate? stability is the most important for me because i do not want to have to be reflashing his phone often.
Thanks.
It's quite obvious you don't know much about the Fascinate scene, considering there isn't a Froyo ROM for it yet. There isn't any official Froyo ROM for any Galaxy S device for US carriers as far as I'm aware you either.
Oh ok. We have some pretty stable leaks (even 2.2.1) for the captivate, vibrant, i9000 so i was assuming the fascinate was the same.
In that case is there a rom that enables the mobile AP, cleans the bloatware, and gets voodoo or the ultimate lag fix running on a fascinate?

The best ROM is probably jt's cleaned up version of the DJ05 leak. For kernel's, there are Geeknik's StupidFast and a bunch of stable/test voodoo5 kernels available for DJ05. If you want to go the stock route jt has a clean version of the DI01 rom in the development forum, and for kernel's I'd probably go with one of the last of geeknik's stupidfast kernels for DI01, as DJ05 and DI01 kernel's aren't fully compatible with the other build's roms.

I just came to the Fascinate scene from the Nexus One section and the most help you can give him is to go to IRC. webchat.freenode.com i believe. They have the leak of the newest software that fixes gps, removes bloatware, etc. You can find how to enable mobile AP on here or just tell him to use Wireless Tether for Root Users.
Closed.
Get Blackhole 2.2, which is NOT froyo. Its DJ05, with options in the rom manager that let's you choose which themes, kernels, apps, and stuff you want. Check it out, it should be avaliable if you ask on irc.
Rockin' DJ05, Minimal Icognito, with Voodoo5
Relatively new to the Android world. These Forums are awesome, its how I've managed to do everything i have. So first off, Nice Job!!! My Fascinate is my first Android phone. Had it for about a month so far. Already Bricked one, Even pushed stock files with Odin to no avail. But that's neither here nor there. Any who, pushed DJ05 Modem with Odin, Installed JT1134's SuperClean V. 0.7 (DJ05), and using JT1134's Voodoo 5 Kernel. In "About Phone" it says Baseband is "S:i500.04 V.DJ05" and Build is "SCH-I500.DJ05" and from what i understand Voodoo 5 is a DJ05 Kernel. So just wondering if anyone had some suggestions as to why i have no Haptic Feedback or any vibration functions at all for that matter. Aside from that i love it. GPS syncs much faster, Super smooth and fluid. Love the set up, just wish i had vibration. Any ideas?
what kernel did you install, as in the filename? Just to make sure it is in fact a voodoo5 kernel. Also, it'd probably be best to ask this in the same place you found DJ05.
Search...
You need a DJ05 kernel, there are some stupidfast kernels that are DJ05, and the newest voodoo's should be.

Yeah it's Voodoo 5. Downloaded it through Rom Manager. Said "Voodoo 5, 12/3, Stable"
Good idea, i'll definately check out IRC.
Any1 figure out the issue. I have the same problem running stupidfast 1.54 kernal and super dark 1.1
Install the voodoo in the dev section. Make sure its voodoo5 by jt

Considering 1.54 is a DJ05 kernel.
And Superdark 1.1 is a DI01 rom
I would see where your issues come into play.
Superdark DJ05 v1 HERE.
And it would make me question if you flashed the DJ05 modem in odin. For things to work right you need all 3 pieces of the puzzle. DJ05 modem, DJ05 rom, and DJ05 kernel.
good day.
I too am not getting haptic feedback. I did all 3 steps and have sense tried a different kernel. I guess when I get up in the morning I am going to start everything over from scratch if no one has any ideas. we will see how that works.
Hello, I looked around a bit and couldn't find an answer, so I figured i would just post this and ask.
I have two (probably) easy questions.
1. I'm on DI01 right now (superfast and superclean), can i go straight to DL09 or do i have to go DJ05 then DL09?
2. Can anyone give me a link to download odin? The link in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788099
happens to be broken for me.
anyone?

You can go straight to DL09. I have Odin shared on my Google Site page with instructions for upgrading as well, see here.
Thanks.

I use voodoo as it makes installing apps a lot faster and lags the phone less. Since voodoo5 and red clockwork, it's been much more reliable and easier to use.
Dl09 was a success.. I'm on the non-voodoo kernel and I'll probally flash voodoo tommarow.

That's good to hear. The only thing you need to remember after moving to voodoo is to be aware that you're using it when switching kernels. If you flash a non-voodoo kernel without first disabling voodoo, it can be a big headache. However, with the current state of development, most things are moving toward voodoo since it has become more stable and reliable.
Yep yep. Thanks for the quick replies and all the help you have been. I have the voodoo zip file on my sd card (the one from the DL09 thread). All I need to do is flash that one right?

Yeah, flash it the same way you did the other kernel and rom. When you restart, there will be a voice giving an approx. time to convert the partitions to the new file system. It will hold on the Samsung logo while doing the conversion and then go to the boot animation when done. I think the time to convert is anywhere from 5-10 minutes, depending on how much data you have. Disabling voodoo will take a few minutes longer and has the same voice time estimates.
Alright. I might just do this right now then.

i just installed dl09, and flashed the right rom. I restarted and am wondering how long it takes to load the rom. I did not flash the kernel right away. I was going to do that after the rom. So far I only have a black screen about 3 minutes in. Whats the deal?
You need to flash the kernel too
Swyped from my SCH-I500 using the XDA app.
just restarted flashed rom and then kernel both. black screen with bottom buttons all lit up for about 20 minutes now. help.
What rom and kernel did you flash? And you flashed the modem in the pda section of odin?
Swyped from my SCH-I500 using the XDA app.
yes i used the pda section and it passed just fine. i then unplugged phone, put batt back in. started phone back up and used rom manager to get to recovery. at first i just flashed blackhole 3.0 rom but i had his kernel and several components downloaded. i was paranoid so i flashed rom then reboot. black screen after samsung for a long time. i then reflashed rom w/ kernel. still got hung. then i went back and flashed everything i had dl including boot animation, digital clock, everything along with rom and kernel again. this time got to blackhole boot animation then has been stuck on that screen for about 40 min. it is the boot with the galaxy and stars with a small android robot in the lower right corner. thinking of doing the odin d101 package. wont that return me to stock. i don't want to but any suggestions.
For some reason I can't turn on bluetooth. Here what I did. Flashed all in one dl09. Rooted. Pushed cwr through odin. Made back up. Flashed supah clean v.4. Flashed blackaosp theme. Flashed dl09 theme fix. Now bluetooth won't turn on. Anyone have any ideas to try? Thanks
Edit: did not flash any kernels...yet.

It's recommended to use a dl09 compatible kernel, and if you haven't flashed one, that means you're probably on a DI01 kernel, which might account for your BT not working (and probably other things you haven't noticed yet).
I thought the dl09 all in one pack for odin had the kernel? Ok....now to flash a kernel. I have Imnuts -50 uv novoodoo kernel on my sd card. I may have to try it. Do any of the all in one packs for odin have the kernels in them?

Actually, I've no clue about that (not used an all-in-one pack before). I assumed (possibly wrongly) that you were still on the original kernel.
