I just found out that Security storage 2.3.3 and Settigns Storage 2.3.3 use a lot of CPU and there isnt even an option to stop them.
Anyone having the same issue or knows what are they for and if it is save to freeze them?
Thanks
Noone knows??

I don't see these on my phone. Are you using exchange for mail? When you use this, the phone enables full device encryption, which uses cpu to encrypt and decrypt information. I assume this will be the same for any application that uses encryption.

Ps: the CPU usage is changing all the time from 1% to about 15%

Ok. I located it. It is a core service that seems to handle secure reads and writes to the device database.
Though when I scroll very fast through the list of applications and the go back to the service properties it will show high cpu usage. After a second or two of idle, it will settle down to 1-5 percent.
So assuming the list of apps is in a database of installed apps, the phone needs to read it in order to display that list. So that's my explanation for that.
I'm going to assume that everything the phone does is in a database somewhere. But since it doesn't seem to affect performance, I'm going to assume that it had low priority.
I'm not concerned with it.

I have the T-Mobile SGSII the T-989, and I am seeing a few cpu usage / battery monitoring apps all pointing to Security Storage as a huge drain over the past two days.
Battery lifetime has gone from 17 - 20 hours to 7-8 hours.

Has anyone else noticed that the available memory reported by advanced task killer gets lower and lower the longer between restarts? Mine starts out at 205mb after killing all but essentials but within 10 hours it has dropped to 145mb available, and the idle battery drain becomes insane! Where is the available memory going?
-------------------------------------
Sent via the XDA Tapatalk App
Battery goes down about 10%/h
Memory goes down because android is linux and has a different memory management than symbian or winmo.
Is like a prefetch.
Every time you run an app, when you pres back button to exit the app is not closed. Will switch to an iddle state so, CPU is not used but will still be in memory for future use.
When the phone will need memory for a different app, will close the least used app(s) to make space.
Oh ok. So that's normal for all android devices?

If this has already been addressed, please let me know. I couldn't find any relevant threads.
Recently, I've been noticing Maps is showing up in my battery usage screen, using 12-15% of my battery by the end of the day. This would be perfectly acceptable, if I had opened Maps at all on these days. This just started happening to me, not corresponding to any update of maps. Has anyone else noticed this? More importantly, does anyone have a solution? I've dug through the settings a bit but can't seem to find a cause. Strange that it just started happening also, seemed to start after the first time I used the turn by turn nav but could be just a coincidence.
TL;DR: Maps using more battery than it should when not in use. Why?
I've noticed that my maps will start up everytime I reboot. I just kill it before it gets to using any of my battery.
Are you checking this usage under spare parts? I've seen others report spare parts showing this. I don't use that app but I never see any listing of it using my battery at all.
My maps dis this .for a while. It was so annoying that I just wiped my phone and all is good now.
Sent from my PG06100 using Tapatalk
Yeah, try clearing data for maps in settings/applications

I was checking usage via the Android battery usage screen, not spare parts. It seems to have stopped ever since I force stopped it from the battery usage screen. Guess I'll just have to keep an eye on it.
It's been doing that with all phones since the new update.

Does it have anything to do with "use wireless networks" being selected under settings-location? That option sends your location data to Google periodically ("even if no apps are running"); I wonder if they are doing it through the maps app.
I suppose it's possible but I'm not sure it's necessary for them to use an app to send your location data.
Battery usage has to equal 100% so I find if I don't use my phone much maps will have a large percentage. If I use my phone the display and whatever apps I happen to be using take up a larger percent of battery pushing maps off the list. Something has to be listed on there even if it isn't using all that much battery simply because it has to equal 100% and if you aren't using your phone it is going to grab whatever is using battery even if it isn't much. When I look into the maps app I find the usage time is always quite low.

If its not maps taking up battery it'll be something else taking a large percentage
Sent from my PG06100 using XDA App
What he was saying was that the percentages you see in the battery percentages are percentages of the percentage of baattery used. So if your battery is at 50%, and maps says it's used 15% it's used 15% of 50%, not 15% of your total battery. I knew this already, this is not the issue. Maps hasn't been doing it the past few days, but it was definitely beyond normal usage, i watch the usage screen quite closely (call me compulsive lol).
It seems to me that he is saying that the phone will report that maps is using the battery just bec1ause it has to say something is using it.
If that is what you are saying, do some more reading on percentage. If maps was not being used, the other processes would just have larger numbers.

So I have a Nexus 7 and an S3, the former becoming recently rather redundant as I got the new iPad (was tired of lack of optimised tablet apps). I still, however, love the form factor when reading and this I do relatively frequently, maybe 3-4 times a week.
The form factor is also useful when I just want to pop out for a bit and feel like taking it with me, whereas the static iPad I tend to keep either at home or take to university with me.
The only issue is due to me using the nexus less, i am less aware of how much charge it holds. And the standby battery is terrible compared to the iPad, which I can honestly say would last about a month if I wasn't using it.
Is there anything I can do to my tablet to maybe tone down the CPU when not in use or maybe disable internet connection when not in use, as I'm sure these two things may be affecting the battery when it shouldn't.
I don't need my tablet to constantly be up to date the second I turn it on I wouldn't mind if it took a minute or so to show me new updates / emails e.t.c.
Thanks!
Keep WiFi and sync off. I don't keep WiFi or sync on (my g'nex keeps me up to date) and my standby battery is good. Never left it sitting for a full day but over 12 hours I only lose 2-3%.

used power toggles to turn sync off, but out of curiosity where is the normal menu option for it?
cheers for that, 5% a day is absolutely fine!
They made this one hard to find. Settings > Data usage > Menu options (3 vertical dots in upper right) > Auto-sync data (put check mark). It's really a pain. I use Notification Toggle to have an option to toggle it from my notifications pull-down shade.
just turn it off if your not using it or set your tablet to sleep mode

I wouldn't be using any of these battery saving apps as most cause more battery drainage than they save.
BetterBatteryStats is the only app you need, free on XDA but support the developer by buying it on Google Play it really is a great app for the small price, and will identify the main battery hogs without using hardly any itself

back many years ago (3 to 4 years) on my Xperia mini pro, i had to have a apps that kill background apps to save memory for foreground apps. now thats a thing of the past, android versions now can manage memory better...well yes, but not power...apparently if you leave some apps running on background it still consumes power on my note2 until you kill it.
i have a game "4 pics 1 word" which i think doesnt know how to properly "exit" that i left on background, 6 hours later my 100% battery came down to 52% because of AudioOut_2 partial wakelocks according to BetterBattery. Ive recharged my phone and restarted it, 6 hours later my battery is still 82%. thats 30% different because of an app that dont know how to sleep (insomnia apps).
so yeah, be careful of some apps that you leave on background, some of them dont know how to sleep.

I'm using DeepSleep Battery Saver. Great app works perfectly on my phone for several weeks now. Greatly increased battery life since it kills any unwanted app when putting the device in sleep mode.
Sv: And I thought killing apps on android is a thing of the past.
Even the xda premium app doesn't sleep properly.

Just use LBE security manager or some other app that can stop apps from autostarting and those apps will not run in the background anymore.
Note that LBE security manager is very comprehensive and might help with privacy and ads as well as some other things. Also download the en version from xda instead of the poorly translated version from the market.

Even I sometimes don't sleep properly. Just kidding... I noticed it too; XDA Premium and other apps sometimes drain battery due to partial wakelocks :-/ I don't understand how this can still be such a huge issue on a mobile operating system.......

It isn't an issue with the operating system - the issue is with poorly written apps!
There is always going to be a certain class of app that does need to keep the phone from sleeping quite legitimately, and you don't want the OS killing these off. Apps like XDA Premium really have very little reason to consume many CPU cycles when not active, so the fact it keeps the phone awake is the fault of the app and not the OS, because it can't determine if the wakelocks are legitimate (former class of app), or just as a result of poor coding (latter class of app).
Regards,
Dave
Uninstall 4in1 it has some nasty spam. Like opening a link in Chrome may make an advert open and then open the play store to one of their other apps.
Uninstall it.

The AudioOut_2 wakelock has something to do with alarms and silent mode, something I've never managed to remedy completely on the note 2. If you play a game or watch a video in silent mode, the wakelock will sometimes appear.
On topic, by far the best method to calm down nasty apps, is the app greenify here on xda and play store. If you read the first post of that thread, many of the answers to why android apps behave like this are there.

As per the title, I am finding on a daily basis that I am only getting 14-15 hours Max.
I only have one homescreen with no Widgets on it.
I have 3 mail accounts, 2 are exchange, 1 Gmail.
No live wallpaper,
Been in a good signal area most of the time, send maybe 10 texts a day, very few calls. No music listening, no picture taking.
Phone is a uk phone d802 supplied by 3 but reflashed with generic open firmware to remove 3 bloat.
Any ideas what's going on or how I try to resolve it?

Might be an app sucking the battery or a bad flash. Try reflashing the firmware. Do a factory reset before the flash and one afterwards.
Also, install GSAM battery monitor.
Disabling knock on might help as well. However if you do find a solution without disabling knock on please let me know.

try regular procedure found everywhere on how to determine wakelock.
also check for battery unfriendly settings. like email sync settings, push is friendliest, check-in every minute keeps phone awake lol.
but most importantly, state what you do in these 14 hours. How many is the screen on. etc.
