Has anyone else noticed that the available memory reported by advanced task killer gets lower and lower the longer between restarts? Mine starts out at 205mb after killing all but essentials but within 10 hours it has dropped to 145mb available, and the idle battery drain becomes insane! Where is the available memory going?

Battery goes down about 10%/h
Memory goes down because android is linux and has a different memory management than symbian or winmo.
Is like a prefetch.
Every time you run an app, when you pres back button to exit the app is not closed. Will switch to an iddle state so, CPU is not used but will still be in memory for future use.
When the phone will need memory for a different app, will close the least used app(s) to make space.
Oh ok. So that's normal for all android devices?

Not really, all they are basically saying is "this is how much power the phone used doing nothing" short of actually turning the phone off its unavoidable.

if they show the most battery drain then there is probably a program that is still running when you phone is in sleep mode and killing your battery
Yesterday for the first time ever I got a popup window telling me that Google Voice was running for too long and was killing the battery. It asked if I wished to end the process or continue. Had never seen that before, so I'm guessing it has to do with Moto's Battery Manager. Either way, there could be services eating up cycles during "sleep" time.
I just found out that Security storage 2.3.3 and Settigns Storage 2.3.3 use a lot of CPU and there isnt even an option to stop them.
Anyone having the same issue or knows what are they for and if it is save to freeze them?
Thanks
Noone knows??

I don't see these on my phone. Are you using exchange for mail? When you use this, the phone enables full device encryption, which uses cpu to encrypt and decrypt information. I assume this will be the same for any application that uses encryption.

Interesting, i dont use exchange, but i guess gmail and yahoo mail might use encription )) thanks for ur answer )
Ps: the CPU usage is changing all the time from 1% to about 15%

Ok. I located it. It is a core service that seems to handle secure reads and writes to the device database.
Though when I scroll very fast through the list of applications and the go back to the service properties it will show high cpu usage. After a second or two of idle, it will settle down to 1-5 percent.
So assuming the list of apps is in a database of installed apps, the phone needs to read it in order to display that list. So that's my explanation for that.
I'm going to assume that everything the phone does is in a database somewhere. But since it doesn't seem to affect performance, I'm going to assume that it had low priority.
I'm not concerned with it.

I have the T-Mobile SGSII the T-989, and I am seeing a few cpu usage / battery monitoring apps all pointing to Security Storage as a huge drain over the past two days.
Battery lifetime has gone from 17 - 20 hours to 7-8 hours.

what happaned if remove security storage in system
Its use more ram for the run and slow down..if I removed what happaned ?
What does everyone have for free RAM? I have between 320 - 400. Is this normal/average? Running rooted stock.

You don't have to worry about free ram, JB will take care of itself
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
As said, dont worry about the free memory, JB will manage it fine.
Dont use a task killer either for memory management, only to kill problem apps, and if an app is repeatedly a problem app, then uninstall it.
With Android, you are better off with apps in memory as they will launch/run quicker, free memory is wasted memory.
I agree with these post, don't worry about free ram. As long as a particular app isn't causing problems by taking up too much theres no need to really worry about memory. Unused memory is basically resources not being used.

Empty RAM uses electricity, and RAM used as cache is as static as empty RAM. It's not as if the system is turning off power to the modules that are unused. You'll see a negligible impact (if any) from having more free.
Edit: In fact, you may see the opposite if you aggressively free memory due to increased flash memory usage.

Cool, thanks for all of the info. I just wanted a point of reference, nothing was wrong.

back many years ago (3 to 4 years) on my Xperia mini pro, i had to have a apps that kill background apps to save memory for foreground apps. now thats a thing of the past, android versions now can manage memory better...well yes, but not power...apparently if you leave some apps running on background it still consumes power on my note2 until you kill it.
i have a game "4 pics 1 word" which i think doesnt know how to properly "exit" that i left on background, 6 hours later my 100% battery came down to 52% because of AudioOut_2 partial wakelocks according to BetterBattery. Ive recharged my phone and restarted it, 6 hours later my battery is still 82%. thats 30% different because of an app that dont know how to sleep (insomnia apps).
so yeah, be careful of some apps that you leave on background, some of them dont know how to sleep.

I'm using DeepSleep Battery Saver. Great app works perfectly on my phone for several weeks now. Greatly increased battery life since it kills any unwanted app when putting the device in sleep mode.
Sv: And I thought killing apps on android is a thing of the past.
Even the xda premium app doesn't sleep properly.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
Just use LBE security manager or some other app that can stop apps from autostarting and those apps will not run in the background anymore.
Note that LBE security manager is very comprehensive and might help with privacy and ads as well as some other things. Also download the en version from xda instead of the poorly translated version from the market.

Even I sometimes don't sleep properly. Just kidding... I noticed it too; XDA Premium and other apps sometimes drain battery due to partial wakelocks :-/ I don't understand how this can still be such a huge issue on a mobile operating system.......

It isn't an issue with the operating system - the issue is with poorly written apps!
There is always going to be a certain class of app that does need to keep the phone from sleeping quite legitimately, and you don't want the OS killing these off. Apps like XDA Premium really have very little reason to consume many CPU cycles when not active, so the fact it keeps the phone awake is the fault of the app and not the OS, because it can't determine if the wakelocks are legitimate (former class of app), or just as a result of poor coding (latter class of app).
Regards,
Dave
Uninstall 4in1 it has some nasty spam. Like opening a link in Chrome may make an advert open and then open the play store to one of their other apps.
Uninstall it.

The AudioOut_2 wakelock has something to do with alarms and silent mode, something I've never managed to remedy completely on the note 2. If you play a game or watch a video in silent mode, the wakelock will sometimes appear.
On topic, by far the best method to calm down nasty apps, is the app greenify here on xda and play store. If you read the first post of that thread, many of the answers to why android apps behave like this are there.

I use greenify.
I have selected every app that uses sound or shows up in bbs.

It's bugged.
Mine is always listed around 30%, yet it only drains 1% in 10 hours in Deep Sleep.
When I play a game (like one of the Kairosoft ones), it lists the game as 6% and Android System as 30%. That simply doesn't seem valid.
When you view the battery consumption in a battery app like GSAM, Android System is listed as 0,1%, whilst it's 32% in Settings>Battery.
Android system includes google apps ao if you are rooted install appmaster or any other app that can remove preinstalled apps after you do that reboot andbyou are ready
