The latest version of Acer Recovery Installer is now available on the Android Market (once the market lets it through anyway) and can also be downloaded here for those that can't access the market. It is recommended you install the market version, so that you get update notifications via market when a new version is available.
This version DOES NOT include thor's latest clockwork recovery image, due to GPL violations. However, it will recognize them (1.4, 1.41 and 1.42) if installed. All new features of Acer Recovery Installer will work with CWM rev 1.3.4 (included) and higher. If you want to use thor's latest version, keep a copy of his recovery.img in the root of your Micro-SD and use the "Custom" option in ARI to install it.
New Premium Features!
Backup/Restore - This will let you initiate a Nandroid Backup or Restore procedure without having to manually boot into recovery. It will see all your previous Nandroid backups, whether they are on your Micro-SD or USB drive, and let you selse which partitions to restore. The tablet will then automatically reboot to ClockworkMod recovery to do the backup or restore process, then reboot back to normal mode.
Download/Install ROMs - This feature will allow you to download the various ROMs from the internet and initiate the install process. You have the option of having it autotically run a nandroid backup and/or wipe date before installing the selected ROM. Again, the tablet will reboot into ClockworkMod recovery to do the work.
Note about XooM based ROMs. XooM ROMs do not let an apps write directly to the Micro-SD card due to a premission restriction. So when the Download/Install ROMs module tries to download the ROM List or a ROM File on a XooM based ROM, it must download it to your /mnt/sdcard/download folder and then move it to the proper place on the Micro-SD card, which is in a folder called "ROMs". All other ROMs download directly to the ROMs folder of your Micro-SD.
Note about Virtuous ROMs. The author has not given me permission to mirror his ROMs on a server that can handle direct hot-linking. Therefore, the Virtuous ROMs could not be included in this release. If he gives me permission, or provides a way to direct hot-link to his ROMs, then I will include them.

Thank you very much. I was astounded at how easy and convenient you've made things. I think we all know how to do this manually but it's wonderful to not have to.
One question, do i need to do something to be able to use the premium features? I couldn't find a premium version of the app or anything.
It's included in v2.0. Make sure you have CWM installed, then the prem buttons will be enabled. You can bypass purchasing while until the beta period is over on Aug 26th.

That's the strange thing. I've got 1.3.4 installed off acer recovery installer v2.0. Tested by backing up. But the premium feature buttons are still greyed out.

Ahh.. what is the message immediately below the buttons? If it's not recognizing cwm, you probably don't have busybox installed. You can install "busybox installer" from the market and use that to install the latest busybox version, or... tommorrow I'll make an update that will fix the problem.
Thanks for the feedback!

Had the same issues. Checked for Busybox, installed, rebooted (don't forget) and everything seems good to go.
Also I have the Thor v1.4.2 installed and it recognizes fine.
Thanks!

Thanks.

I found a lot more busybox dependencies when adding new features last night. v2.1 will come out in a couple of days and all the busybox dependencies will be removed.
It will also have stock roms in the list with an option to add root access to it on the fly.
Cheers,
EB

Great additions to the app. One question tho, under the stock roms the option "Disable Stock Recovery Overwrite?" if this is checked, does this mean it will leave CWM alone?
Thanks,

yep.. normally, stock roms will overwrite the recovery on boot-up. Having that checked will turn off the execute bit on the install-recovery.sh script, preventing it from overwriting CWM.
V2.2 is available. Has on option to install itself on top of any selected roms. Also added some new roms.

Are you on a stock ROM, or one of the custom ROMs? if Custom, which one? Do you have your google account registerd on your tablet and connected to the internet?
PM me with your google account address and I'll check to see if there's something pending.
Finally, Xposed for Lollipop is now available, Rovo89 finally solved the challenge. Here is the link to main thread.
This is what I have been waiting for, now I will seriously make the move. CM12, here I come. It is still an alpha build, so expect some issues.
Apparently, it will bootloop with Samsung stockROM
Anyone got it working on our cm12? It does not for me but I'm not sure if it's just the particular modules I'm using.

Unfortuately, I'm out travelling w/o my T-900, why I can't test it for the moment. But, here are some quotes that might help:

After some extensive testing I managed to install the xposed framework. I hope my post will help others with the same problems.
1) Install the APK
2) Install SELinuxModeChanger
3) Start SELinuxModeChanger and switch to permissive.
4) Flash the framework through recovery
5) Start the xposed GUI. It will show that the framework is not installed. Select the soft reboot option in the xposed GUI, accept SU access and wait for the reboot to finish.
6) Start the xposed GUI. Now it shows no errors and you can install modules.
After each ROM upgrade you have to reinstall the framework. After each (hard)reboot you have to perform a soft reboot to activate the framework.

3/8/2015 - updated Xposed Lollipop
Just an FYI update: rovo89 just made an updated Xposed version available.
Note: both installer and arm are updated, and most issues with CM12 seem resolved.
Also multiwindow works pretty well, I have been using XHalo Floating Window's latest beta a while. Use settings
- Popup WindowPopup Dim set to 0
- Popup Behavior - check "Force New Windows in Halo"
- Activate the Movable & Resizable tab
You will also need to use Floatifications, or MultiWindowSidebar to launch your apps.
The big secret is setting your kernel to permissive, and to install the apk before flashing the arm file.
Hi all, kinda new to this whole game.
Couldn't find anything about rooting 5.1.1, only 4.2.2.
If there's no way to root 5.1.1, would you recommend reverting to 4.2.2 and then rooting it? Are there any improvements from using that version over 5.1.1?
Rooting 5.1.1 is the same way as on 4.2.2, unlock bootloader, flash custom recovery and flash super su.
I would recommend you to revert to 4.2.2 if you want a better performance, but if you want to stay on 5.1.1 make sure to use parrotmod to increase performance
Nexus Root Toolkit make it very easy.
thanks for the tips. i was able to root it, but now i'm trying to install the Xposed framework and it's telling me
cp:write error: No space left on device
meanwhile there's about 5 gigs of space since i flashed it down to 5.0 from 5.1.1
interestingly enough, after i root it and try to install busybox, it tells me free space is unavailable for /system/xbin as well as all the other options i try to change it to (/su/xbin, etc).
anyone know if something went wrong at some point?

Is there something specific i should be careful to leave in?

anyone know if the play store can detect that a device is rooted, and prevent pokemon go from showing up in the store?
or is it just not detecting on my tablet possibly from the model of tablet i have?
i checked the official requirements page and there's nothing 'targeting' specific devices, the device just needs to haev Android 4.4+, but i'm not seeing it in my play store for whatever reason.
(my device is a nexus 7, Android 5.0)
i do recall that, before rooting my device, i'm pretty sure i was able to see and DL pokemon go on this tablet when it was running 5.11 before the root was performed
nvm, i found a site hosting the apk for the app. now just trying to make all the pieces work together on the nexus 7
you need to install Magisk to play pogo on a rooted tablet. magisk will disable the root so pogo will load.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/mod-magisk-v1-universal-systemless-t3432382
Flash a custom rom and install the nano gapps from http://opengapps.org/ if you want to install more apps.
But I wouldn't recommend it since it lags a lot without parrotmod speeding things up. Use the N7 2013 instead.
Magisk will not install on a 5..1.1 ROM because it needs systemless root and this is availabe only on 6.0 or greater ...
Thanks for the added tips. It's too bad this Magisk program only works on 6.0+.
I've tried everything detailed in this guide, including hiding the root with modules in Xposed, but i can't get the logins i created for PoGo to authenticate. I think i'm going to have to throw in the towel on this one.

Don't use xposed, either don't install or disable when you don't need it. Someone mentioned that pogo won't work if xposed was installed, but i didn't think twice about it since mine worked with xposed installed, until today. So today I disabled xposed, then restarted, and it works again.

Pardon my newb, but this workaround method is what i'm trying to achieve through all this.
In short, rooting, then using Xposed modules to hide the fact that 'mock locations' is enabled and faking my GPS location with it. (we live in a tiny town and want the device location moved to a big city).
Without Xposed installed, is there any alternate way that I can hide from PoGo that mock locations is enabled? Per the method linked, that was the one way to make it work, at time of writing.
Or even better, since the linked method actually didn't work on my device (pogo account 'wouldnt authenticate' -- not sure why but assuming its caused by xposed or some kind of root detection), would you know of a different way to fake my GPS location and hide it from PoGo on a Nexus 7?
Just to clarify, I followed your advice and installed Magisk already.
So I have a Magisk-ready device, just not sure where to take things from here, since I realized my instructions uses Xposed specifically to circumvent PoGo

There is another way, but it will disable your ability to use gps . use lucky patcher to install your spoofing app as a system app, then you don't need to enable mock locations and don't need xposed since the xposed modules don't work anyways. after that, install an app called disableservice and disable the 3 locationsharing services in google play service. What this does is prevent your real gps to overwrite your mock gps data.
try at your own risk of being banned

Thanks mate, i'll give it a shot!
I decided to start this thread for a couple of reasons 1 so I can remember what order I did things in to get back after a wipe and 2 so maybe it can help others to setup certain apps how they want and not have to spend the time I did searching and googling.
To start we are going to assume you already have an unlocked bootloader and TWRP installed.
After a fresh wipe I flashed OOS 4.0.2 Full from this thread in TWRP
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3t/how-to/rom-oos4-0-nougat-op3t-leaked-t3523482
I recommend a fresh wipe because every time I did a dirty flash or restored a backup my Android System started draining battery like crazy and phone would get warm while charging
Without rebooting I then flashed Magisk V10.2 in TWRP
https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/official-magisk-v7-universal-systemless-t3473445
Still without rebooting I flashed Franco Kernel in TWRP
https://forum.xda-developers.com/on...ernel-franco-kernel-r1-28th-november-t3508904
I then wiped dalvik and cache and rebooted phone.
edit - THIS STEP WILL NOT WORK ON 4.0.3. It has been patched out.
Somewhere in the process my DM-Verity was tripped and although annoying it does not seem to matter and it can be fixed later by following this
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3/how-to/fix-easy-method-removing-dm-verity-t3544339
After phone booted and I setup account and wifi and I go the play store and install PHH superuser
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=me.phh.superuser&hl=en
Once installed I open it and click the 3 dots and go to settings
Where it says Superuser access I toggle between Apps only and Apps and ADB till I get the message Superuser granted to Superuser
I then go back into play store and install Magisk manager
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.topjohnwu.magisk&hl=en
I go into Magisk Settings and click the checkbox to Enable Magisk Hide.
I then reboot phone
Once phone reboots I open Magisk manager again and check safetynet. It now passes.
I hate ads, I had been using Adaway from F-Droid with MM but I couldn't get it to work on N
I found this https://github.com/AdAway/AdAway/issues/770 after many searches. About halfway down a user named KreAch3R has comiled Sanjay900's changes into an apk so I figured I would give it a try.
At first I could not get it to activate and block ads
I installed this busybox and then it activates no problems and now most ads (not youtube) are blocked
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=stericson.busybox&hl=en
Now what I really wanted was Viper4arise. I tried flashing some in TWRP and I couldn't get them to work and this led to a couple more wipes. But I really wanted this so I kept searching.
I found this https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/viperfx-mkm-magisk-t3535401
I downloaded it and enabled it in Magisk manager
Still no luck and I couldn't get it to work.
After more googling and reading through the other threads for viper I figured it was deep buffering
I used ES file explorer as I was not at home and went into system/etc and found audio_policy.conf
I commented out the first line I saw that said deep_buffer.
After saving I rebooted and now Viper-fx works
To get it to work with Poweramp I had to set FX compatibility mode in Viper to compatible and in Poweramp audio/advanced tweaks I had to disable Direct Volume Control and Enable MusicFX.
Thanks for sharing
Did you have any special trick to get viper to work ? Tried commenting out the line deep_buffer and still unable to get viper to work.

Just want to say thank you again. Didn't see the PM until now. I was able to use another guide on XDA to get Viper working.
Viper will not work on all apps at any time on OOS 4.0.2. Enable Compatibility mode in settings to get it to work. IMO this produces lower quality audio, but it works.
Still cant get viper working. Nothing of deep_buffer is commanded. Please can you share your audio_policy.conf?

WHat app isn't Viper working with? Viper processes audio on a per-app basis, based on the audio buffer the app uses. Google Play Music, on Nougat, does not pipe through Viper even with modifications to the audio config.
Enable compatibility mode. At the moment this is the only way to get the highest compatibility with apps- like Google Play Music.

I followed same steps earlier. But my selinux is enforcing. I have to set it to permissive everytime on reboot. Permissive fix that comes with arise didnt work for me. Any idea..?

Could you please ellaborate how you installed it? Which rom? Which Magisk/V4A version?
Viper is literally the only thing I'm missing from my previous phone; I'd reeeally like to enjoy it again!

Have you tried using the XDA Labs version? I had the same problems and that worked pretty well

Yes, I tried that one as well. Always the same error: "No driver installed", press yes, restart phone, and back to "no driver installed" again.
Which busybox version are you using?
Ok, I finally got it.
I'll write it here for anyone with the same problem, or for future reference.
First, check that you have BusyBox installed.
Then, in Magisk Manager, install the Audio Modification Library. Reboot.
In Magisk Manager again, install the Viper4Android module. Install options: new driver, old interface, user app, library workaround no, oneplus 3 workaround yes. Reboot.
Check opening the app, it should work normally, with no "driver not found" errors.
Notes: tried with letsmakecake's Lineage 16. People in the RN7 Telegram group recommend busybox.zip, but I confirm that the stericson app works the same.
If anyone has problems making it work with Poweramp: settings->audio->advanced->
- Direct Volume Control: disabled
- MusicFX: enabled
Then go to the eq screen, second tab, press MusicFX so it's enabled.
Thanks all who helped, and the V4A devs. This is the best audio tweak mod available for Android, hands down.
Personal recommendation: try the Dolby Pro Logic II irs in the convolver!

Alright, can confirm this works, with some minor differences:
-new interface (just personal preference)
-library workaround was applied automatically
I also have selinux permissive and MusicFX disabled (app frozen).
The package I used is Viper4Android FX Legacy. The new version, Viper4Android 2.7, did not work for me.
My ROM is HavocOS.
