I would like to know all of your opinions on most smooth, most stable, fastest Rom here please.
I come from sidekick 4G and am liking it so far.
Haven't rooted yet can I please get some feedback on that too,
Like the easiest way and to get cwm
Maybe some good tweaks too!
Thanks so much in advance!

I owned a Sidekick 4G, prior to the MT4G I used to have[now sold], and the best Roms I ever used were:
*MIUI by TheDerekJay
-It offers extensive user customization, you can make it look like anything
-Derek's port is excellent, and he provides good support for problems
*Faux AOSP
-Faux is quite the developer too, his ROM is rather stable and offers many features
*BeatMod Sense 3.5
-zfreak has been making ROMs for a long time, I've tried his ROMs on my G1, and I like his Flyer port that he made
*DaddyDc's GenerationX
-Dc is another dev that I think offers a variety of roms, ranging from stock mysense to aosp
-If you prefer vanilla, this is the build for you, Faux has added
virtuous unity, sense 3.0. an AMAZING rom developed by the unity team.
heres the link for MT4G: http://http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1143177
and heres they're website: http://www.virtuousrom.com/
happy flashing
and welcome to the MT4G forums.
Thank you this is a very nice phone. Plan on rooting soon.

I'd highly recommend Faux's CM Nexus Gingerbread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1017516
It has a couple of bad defaults around the keyboard (special bilingual keyboard instead of standard Gingerbread and a very loud keypress sound), but those can be turned off easily.
It's very close to vanilla Android and somehow gets the right balance of performance and battery life.
Thanks for all of the input y'all, I ended up permarooting via the gfree method with s-off and flashing newest cwr from Tom manager, downloaded cm7.1 and g apps as well, I'm currently real happy with CM 7, as its been pretty stable for me and its quick too, I just got a score of 3145 on quadrant standard when overclocked to 1.5

Not trying to pop your bubble. Quadrant really doesn't mean anything in the real world. Virtuous Unity and MiUi are just as quick as CM7 when it comes to opening and closing out apps. And Quadrant is easily hackable. I once hit a score of 2.5k on a underclock to 700Mhz.
Also keep in mind that things that heat up, expand. And when you o/c your processor they do expand which can, and i stress can, cause damage. most people do not o/c their phones 24/7. Infact i've seen a hand full that underclock.

As the title states looking for opinions on what non-CM Gingerbread ROMs are working best for other users. This also excludes ROMs based on CM. As much as Im not a Sense fan, Im at the point where I dont care if it is Sense or not. Im thinking of switching from CM7 mainly cause the GPS issue has finally gotten to me (ive tried all fixes and have GPS working but its so crappy compared to stock). Enough of that, time to move on. Welcome to opinions on some Gingerbread roms.
well i find the meXdroidMod meXperia remeX really awesome, though its cm nightly based, i think a good non cm would be the ginger-sense by gingervillian
I never was a Sense fan until I came across Virtuous. Best ROM for the G2 in my opinion. I'm always trying other ROMs just to keep up with what's out there, but I keep coming back to Virtuous as my daily driver. Everything just works with it, including GPS.
MIUI hands down. I love how fast and smooth it is, especially with pershoot's latest kernel.
miui for sure...
was gonna suggest ultimate droid. but its cm7 based. sooo.. miui. best rom IMHO

I wouldn't recommend MIUI, it's boring.
mexdroid and pyromod are great but are CM based yet I don't experience GPS issues.
non CM7 based I recommend this.

it's sense but one of the best sense roms out there.
Ultimatedroid definitely kicks ass. I really want to try the miui, but there are like five different ones in rom manager and two or three on the forum, no idea which is most up to date, supported the most, or used by the most people. Is miui supposed to be iphone clone?
Edit: UD is based off cyanogen also but actually feels like a rom all its own and not a CM ripoff.

Some issues with ultimatedroid(for g2) are thus follows:
~Gps is still borked.
~After you select one alternate theme no other one will install, same goes for boot animation though in the case of boot animations once you have selected an alternate you cannot change it.
~Font changes do not work.
~Applications like to uninstall themselves.
UD "seems" snappy but it is entirely due to sped up render effects. I pulled just as fast & faster quadrant scores running CM6.1.1 with pershoots latest kernel.
Speed is in the eye of the beholder people. So far virtually ever rom I've tried that is based on CM7 code has some sort of "gotta pray to machine gods" type element to get GPS going. Virtuous is laggy even with overclocking past 1ghz and if you don't dig SenseUI you're up a creek. The only major rom I have yet to try is MIUI but I really don't dig iphone style integration so I guess I'm just going to be stuck on CM6.1.1 till the official Gingerbread release for the g2 comes out.

I think the gps varies partly on hardware also, because I have never had any of the aforementioned problems on UD (given I never tried to change the font), and gps worked fine. As in accuracy three meters and under and no drifting. Gps works for me on all these roms that people say it is broke on when the OP states the technically it is working correctly. Coming from a vibrant before I have seen how wildly gps hardware quality can vary with a given model, I do believe people when they say it doesn't work for them but there are also people who never expierience these problems.

you can use miui with a different launcher then its not really all that iphone'ish, i have used miui as my rom for most the time i have had my phone and it runs grate i used it as i love the luncher others seem to swear by it with luncher pro or adw though.
atm i am trying to get over my app drawer hate so i can try some more roms out there, sense seems to work best with the phone seen as it has been made for the keybaord or so i have have found anyway.
is there any luncher/mod out there that will remove an app form the drawer when its on a homepage?

I don't believe the xboarders rom is CM based. It's just straight up, no bs, stock gingerbread.

VU is a complete Sense 3.0 ROM while Synergy is just a Sense 2.1 ROM with 3.0 bits like lockscreen, weather and etc.
Personally stick with Unity. It's the newest version and I don't like the home screen of Sense 2.1 anymore. Icons look huge compared to VU and the graphics and some color schemes are old in Synergy.
Although I would say Synergy is a tad bit faster, but it's not that noticeable.
i see.. alright then. well ill keep my eye on it to see if it develops into something more interesting then.
Here is my opinion....unity is an overall much more complete ROM while I like what the synergy group did with screen transitions (they are extremely fluent and fast) the unity ROM is extremely SMOOTH and near flawless. I scored 2987 quadrant with virtuous unity overclocked to 1708mhz m-deejays kernel but only managed 1884 on quadrant with the synergy ROM overclocked to 1804mhz w faux's 0.0.7CFS kernel....

well it seems i should just be sticking to unity then haha. one more question. can someone tell me (in the simplest way possible please lol) how to configure the oc daemon thing? is it really worth it? i was under the impression that overclocking your phone for too long would be harmful to the battery. is it the same case with this method?
I'm really loving Royal Panache. It's a great Sense 2.1 ROM ported from the Canadian version of the MyTouch4G. The kernel is great and battery life is unbelievable.

The synergy is a quicker rom but some if the sense widgets are a little off. Love the speed of synergy but imho vf overclocked is as speedy and more stable than synergy. Bottom line, vu would be the best choice for a sense 3.0 rom

go to /system/etc/virtuous_oc/ using root explorer. make sure you mount r/w. then edit the max/min files. just make sure you're using the correct frequencies. appropriate frequencies for the Unity rom are:
245760...368640...768000...806400...1017600...1113600...1209600...1305600...1401600...1516800...1612800...1708800
personally, i don't find a need to change it. i think it's defaulted at 1.2 ghz and it works perfect for me. it's fast enough and i still get great battery life.

Really Depends if you want sense etc etc theres plenty of good roms.
Well CM7 runs quite slow after a day or even less, even if you overclock...it's because Gingerbread is quite demanding on this little fellow.
You could try Cm7 Nightly 151 and Rempuzzle (sense froyo with widgets+WIL script+cm7 kernel for OC) and see there is a big difference.
Personally, I liked CM7 a lot, and still do, since i've used it for half an year or so, but a stock android just can't bring what I need, nor market apps, but htc sense does.
I hope I helped. Good luck with your choice.

Sorry if this question has been asked a million times haha. But I'm just curious about the perks or other ROMs, most especially for battery life since I'm out and about most the time. I have tried CM7 and Miui when they were still new to the shift but just settled down with Mikshift because I love the simple sense roms haha. But ever since I rooted my friends HTC Glacier a couple days ago my mind just became a curious george lol. I know I can just read the threads but I want to know why the person uses that rom....thanks in advance!

but i hear nothin but good things about CM7 which u wont hear anything good from me due to i personally like the Sense UI.
I also enjoyed playing on a MIUI rom due to the high customization you can do with it.

No doubt if u want raw performance without care for ui. Use cyanogen. I had cyanogen for a bit, and could notice the speed.
But I lovee sense, so I'm usin mik g supreme currently I think it runs just as well as regular mikg but u get 3d widgets/rosie...
If we ever get the src for the kernel from htc mikroms would improve performance greatly. Id say I'm more than satisfied with the stock kernel with sense 3.0

Depends on what your going to use it for, business, personal, or both. How heavy a phoneaholic you are ( I'm REALLY BAD ) . But one thing is definate, we have plenty of choices .
Good point, considering I manage a couple email accounts I've grown accustomed to the reliability of sense notifications and how emails are handled.

Honestly for me it's a toss up between CyanogenMod and MikShifted-G. Cm has the raw performance while MS-G has the stability & reliability. Currently I'm using MS-G. It was a little quirky at first, but when I got the V6Supercharger and 98KickAssKernelTweaks scripts installed the UI became just as snappy if not more then cm. Just wish HTC would release the damn kernel source already.

Although Mikshifted-G is also a really good ROM also if you don't want that 3.0 rosie and want to save a little speed, but mikshifted g has a couple little bugs. Synergy is good has a few nice features too. Idk ima sense kindof guy. BTW: Anyone know how to put smilies in on XDA Premium? Just started using it in celebration to full root

True, but not always a good thing. I downgraded and rooted my shift yesterday, and I'm running into the same problem that I had when I first switched to linux on my desktop back in 2000. There are so many choices that I can be tough to narrow it down to what you really want.
Overall, I thought Sense was a bit overdone, so I've been enjoying CM7-nightly for the moment, but there are a small handfull of features I REALLY miss from Sense like T9 in the dialer, and the FriendStream widget & app.
This is really a subjective question. You will get different responses from different people.
Personally I have tried all roms available for the Shift and I always seem to go back to MIUI. In terms of customization, MIUI has virtually limitless UI options. It allows you to really make your phone unique. At first I really did not like the fact that it resembles crApple UI. But after I gave it a try I was hooked. I've haven't been on any other rom for more than a week after trying MIUI. With the Tiamat kernel my battery has lasted more than 2days with medium use.
I also liked Mik G. Its a very good rom. But I just got tired of sense lol. I do think that Sense is the best Manufacturer pushed UI though.
Like someone before me said if you want raw performance CM7 is great. The UI is just not as "pretty" as some others.
I had good performance with ShiftDeck as well. Basically similar to CM7 with a few tweaks and changes.
I suggest trying all the different roms and see which one you enjoy, thats what really matters.
Happy Flashing!

I have to say, I've grown to enjoy what Sense 3.5 has to offer. I fully intend the remainder of my phones on contract life to be spent with either Nils Business GingerSense 3.5 or (my currently installed rom) Warm TwoPointThree. I missed out on Warm TwoPointTwo and all it's heyday so I'm fully enjoying my first ever run with the Warm series.
Side note, I think my next android phone will spend its life on AOSP either because:
A) it's a Nexus device
B) I rooted/installed an AOSP rom
My current favs are Stock+/Inc-Deck GB/OMGB
I never have had a good experience with sense 3.0+ roms, too slow and I dont want to overclock although some of the roms are built really well. AOSP is really nice on our old hardware and always runs clean.

same here, love CM7. With heavy customization from android kitchen and other apps I'm loving my phone and don't have any urge to try other ROMs (maybe a bad thing?)
Sense always gave my phone a little more bloat, no matter how small it was, I'm still all for faster and leaner so that's why I've been stuck to CM7.

Same happened to me on that rom a few times. I got it booted on my first flash but after that, none.
If you want a fun rom to play around with I suggest anyone of the super stock AOSP roms i.e. OMGB/Bugless Beast. What better way to customize than to start with the bare bones.
MIUI with my WP7 customizations runs like a boss. I underclock to 245/128 when I listen to music only and it runs as maybe a 700 MHz Sense rom would, while getting maybe days of battery.
I'm using Stock Plus with a bunch of themes I blended together. My favorite ROM of all time was WarmZ though. What I would give to have it in Gingerbread form... its what's in my sig actually.

My first flash in the rooting game was McTwist. I enjoyed it but wanted to try something else. I switched to Nils Business GingerSense with sense 3.0 and loved his design and the smoothness. Something happened where after a few weeks my phone became unstable tho. Could have been my kernel or my phone or even the charger I was using since apps crashed when plugged in. I then decided to get away from sense roms and tried MIUI 1.12.9. It's smooth and doesn't seem to have that sense bloat. I flashed the latest incredikernel and have been loving the ROM since. It has custom themes which is great for me. I also find myself using the stock dialer,SMS, and camera instead of searching for an after market app. The only thing I didn't like was the homescreens and the launcher so I just use launcherpro and everything looks good.
So as a recap:
McTwist was good
Nils Business GingerSense was great but caused phone problems for me
Sticking with MIUI for now

I believe it. Probably my personal favorite moment to be a member of XDA was when we first had the GingerSense leak last May. Development just shot through the roof for Sense 2.1+ roms. Sense 2.1 is the sweet spot.
