VU is a complete Sense 3.0 ROM while Synergy is just a Sense 2.1 ROM with 3.0 bits like lockscreen, weather and etc.
Personally stick with Unity. It's the newest version and I don't like the home screen of Sense 2.1 anymore. Icons look huge compared to VU and the graphics and some color schemes are old in Synergy.
Although I would say Synergy is a tad bit faster, but it's not that noticeable.

i see.. alright then. well ill keep my eye on it to see if it develops into something more interesting then.

Here is my opinion....unity is an overall much more complete ROM while I like what the synergy group did with screen transitions (they are extremely fluent and fast) the unity ROM is extremely SMOOTH and near flawless. I scored 2987 quadrant with virtuous unity overclocked to 1708mhz m-deejays kernel but only managed 1884 on quadrant with the synergy ROM overclocked to 1804mhz w faux's 0.0.7CFS kernel....

well it seems i should just be sticking to unity then haha. one more question. can someone tell me (in the simplest way possible please lol) how to configure the oc daemon thing? is it really worth it? i was under the impression that overclocking your phone for too long would be harmful to the battery. is it the same case with this method?

I'm really loving Royal Panache. It's a great Sense 2.1 ROM ported from the Canadian version of the MyTouch4G. The kernel is great and battery life is unbelievable.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App

The synergy is a quicker rom but some if the sense widgets are a little off. Love the speed of synergy but imho vf overclocked is as speedy and more stable than synergy. Bottom line, vu would be the best choice for a sense 3.0 rom

go to /system/etc/virtuous_oc/ using root explorer. make sure you mount r/w. then edit the max/min files. just make sure you're using the correct frequencies. appropriate frequencies for the Unity rom are:
245760...368640...768000...806400...1017600...1113600...1209600...1305600...1401600...1516800...1612800...1708800
personally, i don't find a need to change it. i think it's defaulted at 1.2 ghz and it works perfect for me. it's fast enough and i still get great battery life.

What is considered to be the best (fastest) ROM for the Sprint Hero?

Im using Fresh 1.0 as of right now, I like it alot. Just wondering if theres anything out that would make my phone even smoother.
fastest would be IMO the AOSP 1.6, then the AOSP Eclair, then the 2.1 Sense Eclair, then modacco or fresh (cant really tell speed differnece between the two)
keep in my that these are the fastest imo not the most stable
For speed with full functionality, i would say the Fresh 1.0 with sense disabled. Faster but still very useful is the AOSP 1.6 with GoogleBits installed. The camera and sensors work, and overall it is a pretty complete build. There is no BT or speaker phone (among other things).
The fastest, MOST COMPLETE rom would have to be Fresh 1.0 imo. It flies.
I try Fresh, 2.1 and Modaco UN 1.3.. and from my experience I liked 2.1 the best is the fastest. but since its still missing accelerometer, I'm currently running UN Modaco 1.3 in my opinion is way faster. I installed it with full Wipe on the phone and its just flying.
I don't go for the NON SENSE Rom because that beats the purpose of having a HTC Hero, I mean if you don't want SENSE then in my opinion why not get a Samsung Moment?
And that's what i think about it..
I just flashed to fresh 1.1 from un 1.3 and am loving it. no FC as of yet and just seems really smooth.
Nice n Quik
so far i am using the Fresh 1.1 and its woerkin beautifully..no FC's or anything...good rom. Just waiting on Fresh's 2.1 Eclair
It might be trivial for me to point this out, but Fresh is the name of the rom not the team/person creating it. I believe it is maintained by flipzmode/freshlyill and they do outstanding work.
I've been beta testing AOSP 1.6 & love the snappiness. Toss the Googlebits on top of that & you have a ball rolling. Sure it has it's minor quirks, but it IS a Dev-ROM....
im running the "cSrOm 2.1.7" it uses 2.1 firmware, with a custom darchstar kernel oc to 768mhz, it has a linpack score of 3.266, so far very stable and very smooth and fast for me, if anyone has faster roms please be more specific, i like specs, numbers, opinions, thank you

CM6 with Deca's CFS kernel + LauncherPro for me.

How do I tell what rom I am using? I just rooted my phone using the instructions found on these forums. Does that mean I have the stock rom?
I have tried cm6 but have had issues with the radio.

A rom is cm6, or Fresh 2.4, if you went back to stock sprint software than you have stock rom.
I knew what ROMS are, I just don't know what ROM i am using. It looks pretty much exactly like the stock HTC rom.

I have to say that I am absolutely loving Virtuous right now. I have tried them all and it's my daily driver.

virtuous - extremely stable and customizable. Best so far. Did try a bunch of others and always came back to virtuous. In fact I stopped experimenting with others. I am going steady with her now waiting for it to ask me for a diamond ring to show real commitment.
I like virtuous. It's the closest to stock but with lots of mods. I personally love to rotary lockscreen from our friend ihtfp69. But I only tried skyraider during RC2. Cm is nice except no sense widgets.
Sent from my ADR6300 using Virtuous 3.01 through XDA App
I can say virtuous is probably THE best as far as stability and customization. It's by far one of the most polished ROMs out for the incredible right now.
I've tried both skyraider vanilla and sense and they are very nice ROMs as well. Unfortunately, a couple bugs bothered me and i always went back to virtuous.
CM6 was my first ROM and it was unfortunately too buggy for me. I miss a lot of things about it but overall, I realized there are a lot of things about Sense that i could not live without.
Desire HD ROM was also pretty cool but only because we got to see what great things HTC is inventing. I am also looking forward to dev's incorporating some things from it... like booting up in seconds!
Currently I am running uncommon sense and it's honestly just as stable (so far) as virtuous. Considering this is the first version of it, I am extremely impressed.
Since i was using virtuous with the sexyrosiemod and rotary lockscreen (but i really wanted the vanilla lockscreen), uncommon sense is pretty much my set up but built in the ROM already. As far as getting rid of bloatware though, i have to say virtuous is the easiest ROM for it. I had to use titanium with uncommon sense which really isn't that big of a deal but it wasn't as user friendly as virtuous.
EDIT: Forgot something important. I later found out that you can uninstall apps straight from the app menu in uncommon sense. very handy!
also, the other quirks in uncommon sense has really made me attached to this ROM. I never thought i would cross over from virtuous but I did and I don't see myself going back (due to personal preference not because it's necessarily better). If i was going to recommend a ROM to a friend, i would say virtuous.
From what you say cheese I'm going to give uncommon sense a try. So far I like it. Been only 10 minutes though
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Uncommon Sense.
It just works for me all the way through. The bloatware can be a little annoying but it's easily taken care of.
I would have to say virtuous also. I was a big fan of skyraider and can't wait for gold. But uncommon sense was slow for me. I don't use rosie but I like the color settings menu and the status bars better than vanilla.

In my opinion if you're looking for the Sense experience Virtuous is the best one out there. It doesn't change anything drastically, and the UI changes are subtle and more of added polish than wholesale changes you'll get with some other roms. I really like the spirit of the project which is to remain as close to stock as possible but to give the user options that they don't have with the official build.
It's been rock solid for me, the only issue was the Gmail Update issue with 2.7 which was quickly resolved.
Redemption ROM-
Best if you want sense without the added bloatware

Virtuous is nice too. great battery life with the custom kernel.
Actually, They're all really good. I've been doing a lot of jumping around from rom to rom because they're all really good. That's what's great about being rooted. Try'em all!
I like the new Uncommon 1.0 ROM. It is very clean and smooth and I like the small changes that were made. I am also noticing that my battery is lasting alot longer with this ROM.
I am also using Uncommon. Came from CM which was way too buggy for me and unstable.
I'm running with Uncommon Sense right now but had been on Virtuous after trying SR, Frankenrom, and the nonSense ROMS (CM, Ruby).
It's pretty nice and probably a bit more streamlined than Virtuous but still lacks something I can't place. I'd prefer Virtuous to have the power option to Reboot but while that mod is available, it conflicts with the Rotary Lockscreen mod which I like too, as well as the Revolution theme (well the rotary lockscreen conflicts). It would be nice to have DSP built in as well but aside from that these are both terrific ROMS. Hmmm...they should get married! Get the best of both worlds!
If you use HTC sense, which I assume you do based on the title of the thread, then Virtuous is the cleanest and most stable stock sense experience you'll find.
I use SR vanilla mostly because I only like SOME of sense, like the gallery and camera app. I use launcher pro too, so having a full sense rom wouldn't be too beneficial for me personally. Gotta love choice

Best Non-CM Gingerbread ROM?

As the title states looking for opinions on what non-CM Gingerbread ROMs are working best for other users. This also excludes ROMs based on CM. As much as Im not a Sense fan, Im at the point where I dont care if it is Sense or not. Im thinking of switching from CM7 mainly cause the GPS issue has finally gotten to me (ive tried all fixes and have GPS working but its so crappy compared to stock). Enough of that, time to move on. Welcome to opinions on some Gingerbread roms.
well i find the meXdroidMod meXperia remeX really awesome, though its cm nightly based, i think a good non cm would be the ginger-sense by gingervillian
I never was a Sense fan until I came across Virtuous. Best ROM for the G2 in my opinion. I'm always trying other ROMs just to keep up with what's out there, but I keep coming back to Virtuous as my daily driver. Everything just works with it, including GPS.
MIUI hands down. I love how fast and smooth it is, especially with pershoot's latest kernel.
miui for sure...

Ultimatedroid definitely kicks ass. I really want to try the miui, but there are like five different ones in rom manager and two or three on the forum, no idea which is most up to date, supported the most, or used by the most people. Is miui supposed to be iphone clone?
Edit: UD is based off cyanogen also but actually feels like a rom all its own and not a CM ripoff.

Some issues with ultimatedroid(for g2) are thus follows:
~Gps is still borked.
~After you select one alternate theme no other one will install, same goes for boot animation though in the case of boot animations once you have selected an alternate you cannot change it.
~Font changes do not work.
~Applications like to uninstall themselves.
UD "seems" snappy but it is entirely due to sped up render effects. I pulled just as fast & faster quadrant scores running CM6.1.1 with pershoots latest kernel.
Speed is in the eye of the beholder people. So far virtually ever rom I've tried that is based on CM7 code has some sort of "gotta pray to machine gods" type element to get GPS going. Virtuous is laggy even with overclocking past 1ghz and if you don't dig SenseUI you're up a creek. The only major rom I have yet to try is MIUI but I really don't dig iphone style integration so I guess I'm just going to be stuck on CM6.1.1 till the official Gingerbread release for the g2 comes out.

I think the gps varies partly on hardware also, because I have never had any of the aforementioned problems on UD (given I never tried to change the font), and gps worked fine. As in accuracy three meters and under and no drifting. Gps works for me on all these roms that people say it is broke on when the OP states the technically it is working correctly. Coming from a vibrant before I have seen how wildly gps hardware quality can vary with a given model, I do believe people when they say it doesn't work for them but there are also people who never expierience these problems.

I owned a Sidekick 4G, prior to the MT4G I used to have[now sold], and the best Roms I ever used were:
*MIUI by TheDerekJay
-It offers extensive user customization, you can make it look like anything
-Derek's port is excellent, and he provides good support for problems
*Faux AOSP
-Faux is quite the developer too, his ROM is rather stable and offers many features
*BeatMod Sense 3.5
-zfreak has been making ROMs for a long time, I've tried his ROMs on my G1, and I like his Flyer port that he made
*DaddyDc's GenerationX
-Dc is another dev that I think offers a variety of roms, ranging from stock mysense to aosp
-If you prefer vanilla, this is the build for you, Faux has added
virtuous unity, sense 3.0. an AMAZING rom developed by the unity team.

I'd highly recommend Faux's CM Nexus Gingerbread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1017516
It has a couple of bad defaults around the keyboard (special bilingual keyboard instead of standard Gingerbread and a very loud keypress sound), but those can be turned off easily.
It's very close to vanilla Android and somehow gets the right balance of performance and battery life.
Thanks for all of the input y'all, I ended up permarooting via the gfree method with s-off and flashing newest cwr from Tom manager, downloaded cm7.1 and g apps as well, I'm currently real happy with CM 7, as its been pretty stable for me and its quick too, I just got a score of 3145 on quadrant standard when overclocked to 1.5

Not trying to pop your bubble. Quadrant really doesn't mean anything in the real world. Virtuous Unity and MiUi are just as quick as CM7 when it comes to opening and closing out apps. And Quadrant is easily hackable. I once hit a score of 2.5k on a underclock to 700Mhz.
Also keep in mind that things that heat up, expand. And when you o/c your processor they do expand which can, and i stress can, cause damage. most people do not o/c their phones 24/7. Infact i've seen a hand full that underclock.

[Q] Can't Decide MIUI/SENSE/AOSP? :(

Hey guys if you dont know me I was a rom dev for the xperia but moved on to the DZ. HAven't yet made a rom for the DZ, yet.
But I have been flashing non-stop since i got this phone. Its just I can't decide what I should stick to, and what will match my needs.
So im a highschool student, calendars reminders are big for me and staying organized. I play basketball and watch it too so video and stuff is needed.
But Im also a dj/producer and i need the best sound. I also like to play games ocassionaly as well.
I really love Sense 3.0 but I cant handle the laggyness even with swap enabled, is there anything else that can be done? I was on virtuous 2.00 (sense 2.1) for 2 weeks it was stable and all, but the battery was pretty drainable fast. BlissBeatMod is promising if some of it can get less laggy. And we'll have to see what Virtuous Tretanique (Affinity) will go.
Aosp is nice and fast but I dont really get the nice looks and features that miui have to offer.
Miui is really nice im running BulletProof right now. But i still dont feel like its the "one". and the quality of music isnt as great on sense even with equalizer options on.
PLEASE TELL ME ANY SUGGESTIONS, ALL WILL BE APPRECIATED

Thanks a lot, once I decide what kind I will produce I will start.
Ok Im running ILWT. It is amazing. I put a theme on. Very fast. But still some reason it just seems "boring". And the sms app on aosp/cm7 isnt as sexy.
yea i know exactly where youre coming from, I always want a newer prettier ROM... I wish someone would release one that just didnt look like it was android almost, and not like iphone, or anything, something with an original GUI.. yes i realize that's a lot to ask btw and not something I would be able to do myself but I think it'd be cool and get a lot of support! In the mean time the one I've found to be the freshest for me is MIUI because of how the themes affect like everything and really the launcher is what catches my eye, im kinda excited for the ROU launcher
i used to use cm7 and miui before. cm7 is lightweight rom, smooth and has excellent battery life. but it is lack of killer feature such as in its sms functionality, the smart dialer and etc. of course you can always download apps from market for that functions but it takes forever to load those apps on startup.
so i moved to miui, which i am currently running with bulletproof miui rom. it is rich with functionality, ridiculously-convenient-built in-features and interfaces, but consume more battery compared to cm7 unless you made certain tweak on its OC/UC. but its interface lacks of originality because it is obviously a mimic of iOS. but so far i m happy using miui.
i want to try sense based rom, but from what i learned, sense based is laggy. i miss sense interface though. look clean.
OK, if you think cm7 is boring (and I agree) I suggest you give MexDroid a spin. It was my DD for quite some time. The only reason it's not anymore is because I found Bulletproof MIUI. but I'm sure you've already tried MIUI. if not. Tun4f1sh's Bulletproof is the ONLY one I recommend.
More options would be most welcome I'm sure. I'm trying to figure out how to port roms from hd forums at the moment. The collective's absolution looks pretty sweet.

MIUI is great, iv been runing Bulletproof, it's definitely unique miui whit its virtuos oc controller witch cough my eye. But now i got ICS fever on me, not for the isc gui but some of the features. I stumbled on Galnet MIUI whit ics framework. runing fine, tried it for couple days, and the batterylife seems fine, maybe. Ill stick to this since it seems to work, and hope for updates whit possibly some new ics features.(its still same MIUI ui and functionality)
after we get somewhat working ICS, i will try that a little, and propably get back to MIUI.
I'm on Bulletproof MIUI at the moment but since the iPhone-esque UI makes my eyes hurt I installed LPP and some icon pack (can't remember the name). That way I still have the looks of Android but can combine with the impressive speed and flow of the Bulletproof MIUI ROM.
CM 7.1 for me lacks a little bit of polish visually (can't wait for CM9!) compared to Sense based ROMs and IMO MIUI offers that. I like Sense but any Sense based ROM I've tried has started to get laggy on me after a while.
Bulletproof MIUI for the win...I also like good old Cyanogen too, but for a nice mix of speed AND looks MIUI is tops for me
Love the look of Sense, but too slow and laggy
Check my thread, i got a bunch of videos of roms and see which one you like the best

in this few days, i have been testing 3 sense 3.5 rom, beatmode, affinity and rcmix.
for someone who has a very sensitive sense like me, i cant stand to wait for the phone to response due to insufficient memory in sense 3.5.
its time to go back to miui bulletproof.
I have tried many of them. CM and MIUI is cool, I just miss too many features from sense. Sense 3.0 is either laggy or will get laggy after a while. So, I always go back to my Virtuous Sense 2.0.0 NAND backup.
But: question here: why is this draining the battery soooo badly? Apart from this, this could be THE perfect ROM.

I have tried muiu, mexdroid, htc clay, g-lite, sense 2.0, unity sense and the affinity sense. I keep finding myself going back to the most stable, configurable and updated ROM ILWT CM7 (268).

Sense is smooth and polished, but every custom Sense ROM that I have ever flashed is a battery hog, even the Sense 2.1 + 3.0 hybrids.
So my current favorite is G-lite 1.05 - it's like stock + overclocking + better than stock battery life (due to deep sleep)
I like sense and am currently running Virtuous Afinity but I can see me switching to an ASOP build of ICS when it's stable enough

Curious to know what you like most about ILWT, especially compared with mexdroid and miui?
