MMS and Mango - Focus General

Am using an unlocked Focus and obviously can't send MMS. Has anyone been trying or already figured out how to change the MMS settings using RTM Mango?
Thanks in advance!
Sent from my Focus using XDA Windows Phone 7 App

I was able to make it work the other night by restoring back to stock 7004, unlocking with chevron, side-loading the Samsung Tools app from the forums here, enabling the -auto-reconfiguring of MMS, and then upgrading all the way through all the updates to Mango RTM.
Took a long time, but at least it's working, now.

Have you tried the "Network Profile" app from the Marketplace yet?

that's what worked for me for mms, for data adding a custom APN with ATT settings works, but i don't remember if that fixed mms as well...

Good to know! I'm going to wait for official firmware to get this done... That would take quite a bit of time.

it's pretty fast to go through most of that since the wipe will make the backup process very short as there isn't much to backup, the final sync if you have a lot of music is what takes a while.
i was dreading it to when i went back to get the chevron unlock and then flash back, but it took like an hour or so including the final sync of like 20GB of data.

Did you do a restore to get back to nodo?

How were you able to work this? I have done the same thing, but MMS still didn't work. What I was able to do was when on unlocked NoDo, I poked around in the registry and found the proxy settings for MMS and changed the server entries to Bell's. There are other settings that still show AT&T, but it seems to work.
I believe the only way to get it truly right, is to get a hold of the Bell NADPDEF XML file from a WP7 device sold by Bell and use one of the clever methods available to load the XML file after updating to Mango.
The Samsung Network Tools app wont work for Bell as Bell does not have a Samsung device, therefore Samsung hasn't defined a profile for Bell. It would be way easier if someone could "adjust" the Samsung App.
Makes it a real pain....

i used one of the roms that are in the development thread here, because you have to go to a pre-nodo state to unlock and i never had a backup of prenodo (7004?)

I have an unlocked Samsung Focus on Bell, and it just worked doing what I said. I didn't have to do anything out of the ordinary. After the phone restarted, once I had set the app to do its thing, MMS just worked.
I'm not sure why it wouldn't be working for yours.

Microsoft MyPhone Premium features not working?

Hi,
I've been trying to get the MyPhone premium features trial (locate lost phone/remote ring etc.) to work on the HD2 and to set this up the service needs to send 12 silent messages to the phone. This worked on my old Polaris just fine but on the HD2 it fails to recieve these 12 messages and therfeore the service cant be used.
Does anyone else have this problem???
Thanks
Just gave it a go - same problem - FYI I'm on Vodafone..
Have you guy's updated your ROM to the newest version? Maybe HTC has fixed it... I don't know, but it's worth a try.
I've not flashed yet, due to the O2 branded ROM, might try the goldcard method on the weekend.
Anyone with the newer ROM care to try the free premium features trial and report back
Thanks

Hd2 my phone premium features dont work
I have a HD2 which i bought sim free which Im using on the Orange UK 3G network.
I've also noticed that the premium features on ms_myphone dont work with the HD2.
Along with everyone else, I get the message that the phone cannot be contacted.
As soon as the ROM is officially announced on the website of HTC: Report this issue. Maybe they fix it soon then...

TBH don't see the point in waiting until ROM is officially announced, after all it doesn't work in the current ROM neither! So reporting it as "not working" now just means they can't come back with a "this feature is supported in a forthcoming ROM" (or if they do then we'll know they are talking about something coming later in the pipeline than 1.48!).
I think the more people that report it the better; especially as the whole MS MyPhone feature doesn't seem to have had all that much marketing (at least the here in the UK) therefore the might not immediately be that many people complaining about it.
Just my opinion
Don't know if it's relevant, but having run MyPnone on the original ROM I was (as is standard) asked to download an update to the application. I did this and all was well until today when I was asked to download another update, which I have also done.
Why not see if there is any way to force this update - it may be a bugfix?

No, still doesn't work with my SIM free HD2 on Orange UK- "The ring/ lock request couldn't be sent due to a problem with our service"

Semi-relevent but sadly not a fix..
The 'updated' version of the MyPhone app contains the code for the 'Premium' service to work, however these in turn have to then be supported by the phone itself. FYI. Turns out what it does is constantly monitor your incoming txt messages for and intercepts specially formatted ones from the MS server instructing it to do something (ie. for the MyPhone app to launch and connect back to base, turn ringer to full and ring, acquire GPS fix, etc etc). I'd hazard a guess it is the HTC Sence txt messaging service which is preventing this service from working - after all it is known already not to play nice with the txt message notification queue and instead hog it to itself.
So in summary: without the update you'd have no chance of the location element of the Premium Services working, with it you still need support from your handset and it would seem up to ROM 1.48 at least we have sadly confirmed not to have this with the HD2 at this stage. A fix needs to come from either HTC or Microsoft (further updated to MyPhone app), or quite possibly both.
There's a relevant thread over at the MyPhone forum that I tried to add to http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/MyPhone/thread/57659d5c-2077-4387-9bda-92643e17cab7
not had a reply yet, maybe we need a new thread over there?
i think it must be the HTC messaging app ... has anyone install back the old windows message app, and try the myphone Premium features again?
Im going to bump this thread now that custom ROMS are out there and ask
Is anyone with the htc messaging removed able to set up the premium features of MyPhone?
How do you disable HTC messaging....?
Can you fully disable senseUI ?
On a stock rom....
Serriously, your telling me that no one cares about locating their lost phone, remote wiping etc!
but threads like oh god I bought the wrong phone get a responce
Any luck with a 1.66 ROM?

If you are looking for find my phone style software, forget the myphone premium, go look at Remotetracker. Free, and superb. Stuffed with tons of features. TXT your phone, it will call you back with the microphone open, another command will text you gps coordinates and a link to the position on google maps, another commands will start the gps, make a 5 minute track log and then text it to you in google earth compatible format,, send popup messages to teh phone, get it to send you all your contacts, get it to wipe the SD card, the list is endless.

remotetracker is good but I would prefer to be able to use a website to contact my phone rather than having to send a text to it. also being able to ring the phone etc and view it on a map

Official T-Mobile USA HD2 ROM Upgrade! - [2.13.531.1]

Here are a few links with information (including the HTC website download mirror) regarding the official update from T-Mobile USA, courteously provided by: Pocket Now!
Upgrade Announcement!
ROM Information!
I will most likely be applying this update within the next few days. Although, I'm a little hesitant just because I figure that certain, "Manila modifications" won't operate properly on this upgraded T-Mobile USA version... NOT YET ANYWAY!
Thanks,
Downloading
Install new ROM and restore from Sprite
I plan to install the new official ROM and then do a full restore from a Sprite backup that I will have done while on the old ROM.
Will that work
Do I need to do anything different with Sprite or is it just a normal restore
Thanks for any advice.
I have downloaded this version and installed it...i think its slow and it lags. so i got rid of it and i flashed back old one.

I wouldn't advise that...
Just go ahead and perform the usual steps of "starting fresh."
It's not worth risking any system "tainting" that could occur in the process of another system recovery from a different ROM image.
Besides, if you don't think the update is worth performing in the first place, stick with your current setup.

Really?
Most everyone that has provided a testimony for "TmoNews" has suggested that only improvements are noticed... nothing negative to report.
I would suggest that you CLEAR/CLEAN the RAM after the installation. Use a program such as Memory Maid to run a few system maintenance diagnostics.
Otherwise, give this "new" ROM time to "settle" on your device. 24-hour tests are usually the best idea.
I have installed the new ROM. Things are very similar to way they were before. Didn't feel HD2 getting faster or slower. However, I have a strange problem now: Right now I don't have a data plan so I'm using my WiFi connection to get to the internet. One of the first apps I installed after flashing the new ROM is Omarket. Few hours ago, i.e. before flashing the ROM, Omarket was working fine but now it cannot connect to internet! Opera mobile works fine though (I downloaded Omarket with it!). There are other strange things going on as well: I have an MS exchange account. I can sync my emails over WiFi but contacts do not get synced! It seems that somehow some programs can use WiFi and some others cannot. Couldn't figure out what's going on yet...
Any changelog ?

UPDATE CHANGELOG! (Personal Analysis)
Here are a few changes that I've noticed since upgrading to this ROM yesterday evening:
The HTC Sense menus no longer have the "snap back" feature.
The overall screen sensitivity has been increased.
HTC Peep, the standard Twitter client appears to be completely removed.
The lock screen no longer "stutters" (on occasion) during the "slide to unlock."
Upgraded radio, including the version number.
Upgraded ROM, including the build number.
"T-Mobile Help," the micro-forums application has been included.
"My Account" has been included, with a more "feature-rich" experience.
"Swype" now has HAPTIC FEEDBACK, whereas my version of Swype did NOT prior to this update.

I saw on the Freeware Pocket PC twitter that they where having problems with the OMarket, Maybe this is what you where experiencing. Did the regular market work?
Haptic feedback on Swype.... interesting.
How well does Swype work for holding down a key to get the alternate symbol (like numbers & punctuation). On mine you can hold if down for days and never get the popup - I had to install version 2 to make it work.
BTW - I think I like the layout for version 2's symbols better, especially the numbers, but might be interesting to try out this Rom after enough people give feedback on it.
Missing Twitter tab would be... odd.
Why is this release coming from a HTC web site rather than T-Mo? I'm thinking of upgrading but dread going back through all the settings.

This problem appears to have been fixed in the new ROM.
One thing I noticed is that the new T-Mobile Help app hooks into the dialer and hijacks attempts to dial 611. Dialing 611 brings up the help app and then eventually the phone may dial 611 itself later.
The whole effect is... bizarre and unwelcome.
I cant get the My account or Help application to work. When I click the icon it shows me the initial screen and says "the my account application will be downloaded shortly" and just sits there. Did I somehow mis-flash the rom? I can't imagine this is the case.

Because the phone was created and manufactured by HTC. Just like Apple releases the updates for its iPhone; not AT&T.

Optus Usage Widget

The actual app from Optus works a treat, but the widget just says "There was an error displaying your usage". Anyone else having trouble with it?
Same problem here. Nfi how to fix.
No luck here either.
If it actually worked, took up less space on the screen (maybe 4 icon spots or less instead of 8!!!), and usage was updated more regularly (delayed up to 24hrs tsch...) then it would be perfect.
But alas, it fails. Still, I keep the app on my homescreen.

No worries.
Sorry I wasn't quite clear in my wording...
I meant I dumped the optus app before I upgraded firmware.
I flashed to JFB, then JFF, then JG1. I can't notice many improvements... In fact my phone is a bit more laggy at JG1 (but I have more apps installed so I presume it's that).
I would flash to JG3 but... I don't wanna have to restore all my settings and data again... (done it about 5 times).
I wouldn't mind having a copy of original AUS firmware for safety reasons... or at least the CSC (contains all the carrier specific info).
It's doing the same thing for me. Curses.

Hey guys, quick 2 Optus-related questions. Switched from 3 to them when I bought my Galaxy S yesterday.
1) How can you find out your account number? I've registered a username and password for using the My Account app, but it wants an Account Number that it states will be on my bill, the first of which I obviously won't be receiving for a while...
2) Is there a backup of the stock Optus firmware (JF3) including all the pre-loaded apps just in case any of us ever need to return the phone under warranty to load it back to its factory settings and firmware?
Cheers!
1) It's annoying you don't get it when you first sign up, but it's written on your first bill (pro-rata which is only a few days).
Apparently you can also call up optus and get it off customer service, however I didn't know this so I just waited.
2) No there isn't a proper flashable dump, unfortunately. If you do decide to flash your firmware (it's worth it if you can't wait for official updates.. which are very slow).

Samsung dive

Okay I registered my note with Samsung and tried out the Samsung dive app, I tried the ring phone, track phone and so on, but after trying out the unlock screen feature, now everyone I check for software updates on my note, I get no updates available very quickly followed by a statusbar notification telling me my screen lock has been reset to default by Samsung dive. I have tried logging out of my Samsung account, I have even deleted the Samsung account app from my phone, I have unticked the remote feature in settings, but it still does the same thing when I check for updates, as I have the unlocked international version so therefore waiting for ics to be made available for my note.
Anyone else tried Samsung dive and having the same issues, or am I missing something to turn this off.
It is now becoming very annoying constantly doing this, but it does only seem to do this when checking for updates.
I don't want to do a factory reset as I don't know if that will even cure this, and then still have this notification but having to start over again setting up my phone when I have it just how I want it.
Any advice is most welcome.
Same issue here, I agree, It is annoying! Any help would be appreciated.
I installed AVG Antivirus Pro, which Samsung was giving away for free for a limited time in my country.
Works great.
Back on subject. Have you tried resetting the app via Applications in Settings? Might fix your issue. If not a factory rest will probably do it!
I'm having the exact same issue here. Does anyone have a solution to this?
I hopefully seemed to have solved the issue. I had the exact same issue. I logged onto the samsung dive website and chose the option to 'Lock My Mobile' and entered a pin. Now on the phone I unlocked my phone with the PIN previously set on the samsung dive website. After this the problem seems to have disappeared.

Unknown new app installed through LG Service Center Update - DrAPN_N

A few hours ago I received a notification on my Sprint LG V20 that an app was updated. Upon closer inspection I found that it was actually a new app installed through the LG Update service center or "LGinstallservice" i.e the one that updates LG's stock proprietary apps like Qmemo and their Clock app and so forth.
The app is called DrAPN_N and it installed itself as a system app. It is currently and has been running in the background process of my phone since that time.
A quick Google search only yielded a Reddit thread with a few more confused LG users with a couple different LG devices that had received the same app on their device (a few posts from today and some a few days back).
My guess (and big emphasis on the word guess) is that it's some sort of hotfix that updates the apn info that sprint has them lock down and isnt editable to a user without modifications, hence the name "Dr. APN". If that's the case I'd be curious what it changes and why. I also just remembered Sprint was doing some spectrum modifications on their old 2g network (or something like that) and realize now that it could have something to do with Sprints repurposing to increase coverage in rural areas. I forget what they are calling that rollout but that along with the name kinda equals my best guess on all of this as of now.
Screenshot below. Thanx for any input or info.
My stock unrooted TMobile variant just got that yesterday. I was wondering what it was.
I remember seeing DRapn. So i guess it's not just a Sprint thingy.
I got this app yesterday. I'm using a sprint v20, but not on sprint or in America. Previously I had been using Textra to use custom APN settings to get MMS working, and it had been fine. But upon installation of this app, those custom changes were no longer applied. Reapplying them has no effect, and now, though sms and call still functions, MMS does not. If this app represents an attempt to lock down custom APN usage, that would be distressing but would explain my failure to get MMS working now despite my efforts. I'm still looking for (an unrooted) solution to uninstall or work around this app. (I would root but am on the latest firmware and don't believe it's rootable right now, though I haven't checked in a while.)
This app just installed on my Sprint LG G5 about an hour ago and I called LG support about it. They didn't have an answer for me, but they said they would call me back when they had an answer. I'll post anything I find out here.
The app installed on my phone today. LG V20
If someone can post the apk, it could probably be disassembled to see what it does... Otherwise everyone's making guesses
DrAPN_N
It just intalled itsself on my rooted sprint v20, link to apk:

Uninstalling it and disabling the LG service that installed it now. :good:
I thought I would add that (as this app was making it impossible for my APN settings to be retained longer than a few minutes on my sprint lg V20 being used outside USA) I set about to disable it. The disable button was greyed out so I denied it permissions to change system settings and deleted its cache. To my suprise it still had the effect of undoing my APN settings. So I disabled it via ADB, and that did the trick. Been using the phone for 24 hours since and noticed no issues.
ADB?

Can you please explain how you did the process through ADB? I'm in need of doing this myself...thanks

according to LG , this app is supposed to determine and program APN automatically based on inserted SIM.
Would be nice if it had a GUI to disable itself. Do you have non-Sprint APN? What happens to your APN settings? do they reset back to sprint?
Does new APN gets unselected? deleted?

Thanks for that information.
I do have a non Sprint APN. I'm using a Sprint phone outside USA. I had had to set my phone to expect an AT&T connection, in a secret dialer menu, to get it fully working. (I described the process above.) I expect my weird set up did something Drapn was not expecting, causing it to mess up the issue it was meant to address.
Forgive this lengthy reply, but I'll leave it in case others have the same problem. Before this Drapn issue, just editing APN in regular stock android settings, while it allowed most data to work, and sms, would not allow MMS or certain kinds of messaging, like WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger. I have no idea why, though I did find other users online with the same problem using sprint phones outside America. Eventually I fixed the problem by marking the phone AT&T in the secret dialer menu, as described in my previous post in this thread. At that point the APN settings took hold. Until Drapn was installed, which perhaps got confused between the Sprint/AT&T/My Carrier settings. I could input APN settings into the stock android system settings, and sometimes it would work initially (other times, if I edited too many fields, the entry would vanish after I saved it) but always it would stop working after a few minutes or at least inside an hour. Had I factory reset the phone, and attempted my modifications from scratch with Drapn installed, perhaps it would have worked fine. Then again perhaps the necessary changes would have been impossible to implement.
I am not sure what APN settings Drapn was reverting me to. My custom entry would either remain but stop functioning, or else be deleted, and also stop functuoning. All I know is that nothing worked until I disabled Drapn with ADB, having deleted its cache and revoked its permissions.
Because I was using a phone modified within a secret dialer menu, I don't figure I can get 100% mad at LG for pushing an app that borked my phone. You play with fire you get burned, etc. Then again, pushing an app with no transparency as to what it does, and no freedom to disable it, is certainly not the best. I suppose now I have to worry if accepting the Oreo update will reintroduce this issue and leave my phone inoperable outside the USA.

check out the LG V30 threads. this is exactly what happened there. Unlocked by sprint phones became locked again after Oreo update. And if you are no longer on Sprint network you are stuck. So yes, you have all the reasons to worry.

Yikes. Thanks for that. Just read through a big thread, what a mess. Looking like I'll likely be trapped on Nougat. Much appreciated, at least I didn't find out the hard way.
