t-mobile branded weather problem

My mega is t-mobile branded and the weather is not showing on home screen. its just asking to update but it's not updating. i tryied to update by official htc fix but it faults on %4. And maybe anyone knows how to change default t-mobile internet browser to opera 10

just that the weather on the homepage of my touchflo didn't update untilI ran the quickgps app

Weather application is not linked to quick GPS but HTC location service.....assume you have enabled that... btw it is not a very stable program
Sometimes you have to update more than ones......and finding your current location with google maps helps.....

have ur ISP settings set to ur mobile operator , connect to update , just for 1 second and turn it of , i mean the connection , update QuickGPS and try again .... i'm not really sure if this helps but everytime i do somethin in my internet settings , the Weather tab resets it's places hope it updates properly now !

couple months ago i downloaded some file from xda which fixed this problem, but now i done hard reset and i can't find it anymore on xda

no not working there was fix which searched closest supporting area cos there isn't carshaton in theirs database so the closest was sutton or croydon and now it's showing me place where i've been couple days ago with that day weather conditions

Ok now i installed this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4639416&postcount=1235 which is for CDMA or any without gps and seems it works now. today i'm going for about 50 miles hope it will change current location

Yep its working on main screen

I've sent 2 times a support form to t-mobile in germany, asking if they would be delivering the weather fix for the german market... so far no answer. The first time was right after the fix was posted by htc in December, the second time I posted this was a week ago.
No answer whatsoever.

And may be they wont do it mate.

Quite propable, that they won't do it. The same behaviour has been with other german t-mobile branded phones - too much hassle to properly test patches etc, with no real possibilities that it would bring money in.
I'll follow the hspl stuff how it advances and after some observation period will flash myself too.
After all I've been flashing my Blackstone and Kaiser for a while, so this is not a big issue. My wife is using the phone and she doesn't have the "same urge" to have her phone flashed

Install new ROM and restore from Sprite
I plan to install the new official ROM and then do a full restore from a Sprite backup that I will have done while on the old ROM.
Will that work
Do I need to do anything different with Sprite or is it just a normal restore

I wouldn't advise that...
Just go ahead and perform the usual steps of "starting fresh."
It's not worth risking any system "tainting" that could occur in the process of another system recovery from a different ROM image.
Besides, if you don't think the update is worth performing in the first place, stick with your current setup.

Really?
Most everyone that has provided a testimony for "TmoNews" has suggested that only improvements are noticed... nothing negative to report.
I would suggest that you CLEAR/CLEAN the RAM after the installation. Use a program such as Memory Maid to run a few system maintenance diagnostics.
Otherwise, give this "new" ROM time to "settle" on your device. 24-hour tests are usually the best idea.

I have installed the new ROM. Things are very similar to way they were before. Didn't feel HD2 getting faster or slower. However, I have a strange problem now: Right now I don't have a data plan so I'm using my WiFi connection to get to the internet. One of the first apps I installed after flashing the new ROM is Omarket. Few hours ago, i.e. before flashing the ROM, Omarket was working fine but now it cannot connect to internet! Opera mobile works fine though (I downloaded Omarket with it!). There are other strange things going on as well: I have an MS exchange account. I can sync my emails over WiFi but contacts do not get synced! It seems that somehow some programs can use WiFi and some others cannot. Couldn't figure out what's going on yet...

Any changelog ?

The overall screen sensitivity has been increased.

When I flashed my ROM. Twitter was still available on my phone?!

I saw on the Freeware Pocket PC twitter that they where having problems with the OMarket, Maybe this is what you where experiencing. Did the regular market work?

Haptic feedback on Swype.... interesting.
How well does Swype work for holding down a key to get the alternate symbol (like numbers & punctuation). On mine you can hold if down for days and never get the popup - I had to install version 2 to make it work.
BTW - I think I like the layout for version 2's symbols better, especially the numbers, but might be interesting to try out this Rom after enough people give feedback on it.
Missing Twitter tab would be... odd.

Why is this release coming from a HTC web site rather than T-Mo? I'm thinking of upgrading but dread going back through all the settings.

This problem appears to have been fixed in the new ROM.

One thing I noticed is that the new T-Mobile Help app hooks into the dialer and hijacks attempts to dial 611. Dialing 611 brings up the help app and then eventually the phone may dial 611 itself later.
The whole effect is... bizarre and unwelcome.

I cant get the My account or Help application to work. When I click the icon it shows me the initial screen and says "the my account application will be downloaded shortly" and just sits there. Did I somehow mis-flash the rom? I can't imagine this is the case.

Because the phone was created and manufactured by HTC. Just like Apple releases the updates for its iPhone; not AT&T.

I have the same

my account application works fine on my hd2. overall, the updated rom seems to run a lot smoother. however, i still get the lag in sms but the freezing issues (to the point where i had to take out the battery once or every other day during sms) seem to be gone.

Samsung Task Manager 1.5.1 available via Samsung Apps

Version 1.5.1 now available. It seems to be the same as version 1.5 that came out a couple of weeks back, except this version doesn't revert back to version 1 when you restart the phone - so a pretty fundamental improvement there.

wtf permissions?
I was going to install the 1.5.1 release from the Samsung app store, but finally held back: The permissions it's asking for are not quite to my liking.
This app requires each and every permission there is, e.g. change UI settings, send SMS and MMS, make telephone calls, read emails, change APN settings, change global system settings...
Did all of you ignore this, or were you shown other permission requests?

Noticed that as well, but it's the first update I installed for the Task Manager. I assumed it already had those permissions, and decided to trust Samsung. Some might argue it's not such a good idea

There are more apps in the Samsung store that require odd permissions and I just called Samsung Mobile Germany to ask the supporters why this is.
Not that I expected anything else, but what I was told is just wrong.
I was told the following:
- These applications are from Google (i.e. programmed by Google)
- These permissions are set in Google accounts
- this is no risk as the applications for 100% sure won't make calls or send SMS / MMS
This is so poor as a support answer... And a really poor programming style as well, 'cause it contradicts the idea that programmers should only require those permissions in their manifest that are acually needed.
Not gonna install that crap anyway. What if Samsungs servers are hacked and distributing modified versions of these applications? They're not gonna pay my excessive cellphone bill, should this be true, aren't they?

Australian Froyo OPTUS JP5 finally available now through Kies!

Just plugged my phone in to kies to check for update and finally official froyo for optus is available!

woohoo! now i just gotta figure out how to be able to update after flashing different roms. flashed back original firmware via odin but it dont seem to work through kies still

I'm in a similar boat, upgraded a while back to 2.2 using the registry edit (before the update was recalled).
Any ideas on how to go about upgrading to the official optus version?

You might've had your IMEI etc corrupted like I did... only a Samsung service centre can fix that (well I hope anyway... gotta see on the weekend)

Do a search on the forums for Kies Registry Patcher. I used that program to get the download working.

Same bloatware. Haven't noticed anything new. MyAccount seems to be working fine at the moment. As per usual feels smooth and real good at the moment. I give it a week before the lag returns.
Note. I have 7 pages of apps.
EDIT: By MyAccount I mean the usage app. The widget still gives errors tho.

its ur product code that becomes changed and a simple flash doesnt fix that. theres a way u can flash the csc and then enter *#272*YOUR IEMI# and that will flash back the propper code but im hard pushed getting it to work.
its not my iemi my iemi is still exactly the same thank fcuk lol

some of the Virgin phones had Optus firmware and therefore had Optus apps.
in 2.1 there was one app and 6 shortcuts to the Optus portal.

Thanks for the info, worked great

Anyone fixed this for non-Kies yet? IE, decrypt code for the .zip.enc

I updated with the reg hack when it was first being done a month or so ago. Thought today I'll update with the optus version, and downloaded the program to use with kies to make it work.
Anyway, just updated kies and connected my phone and it said that a firmware update was available, so I'm trying that first. Don't know what it is as such since I didn't think it would show. I think I remember seeing it say something about an upgrade to JPA or something. Oh well, we'll see.
ps - people like me who don't know what they're doing shouldn't be doing this stuff . But it's edge of the seat, flying by the seat of my pants fun!!!!

Would be good if Samfirmware can get a hold of this so that we can flash it via Odin

Finally updated mine to Froyo.
I did get some FCs after it rebooted, mainly from the Optus bloatware so I think its fine
Also, although the update is non-destructive. Its still removed my desktop shortcuts and replaced it with the default one (1 page of some shortcuts and 6 pages of blank)
I noticed Samsung have their own turn by turn navigation app as well, looks cool. Will try that out later.
Question! Can I use Voodoo (Beta 4) to lagfix this?

I've deleted mine and replaced it with the unbranded version (EAS did not work with SE branded) and would now like to go back, and take a stab at sorting the issue on the SE file.

I don't have your requested file but did you try to set right permission for the email.apk? I installed the modded from 2.2 and it worked with no problem. Could you share your file?

It wasn't a permissions issue, I think it is something to do with handling ssl or certificates. Can't remember the precise problem, but SE would not allow me to connect to Exchange server and CM7 would.

I hear that the email application on branded (eg Orange) handsets is slightly different and supports push, can anyone share/confirm?

When my phone was still Orange branded, the email application support push email on my Hotmail account. Now on the unbranded .184 software, it only works as pop3, and not very well at that. Doesn't delete emails from the phone when I delete them in webmail, etc. Load of pish. Would rather have kept Orange branded software!!!

Yeah its rubbish at deleting emails from the server, and cant detect that you have deleted them and keeps showing them.
Have you tried any alternatives to this one ?
Saying that, the orange branded email app, from what i saw of it, did look good.

I've tried k9, but that doesn't have EAS and drains the battery rather quickly for imap.
The orange fw also supports their "HD Voice", and it would be nice to have an adb pull of this.

Yeah its a shame from orange as the rest of the software that came with the phone was really bad so i over looked it and flashed the global rom as soon as i could, first day in i got it in fact.

Called Orange today and said that all the Orange software had gone after I had to reinstall from SE website. They are sending me a new handset tomorrow!! So hopefully have the proper email app soon. Then see how we go about extracting it!

Should be as easy as copying it from the system/app to your SD card,
Might need to be re-signed, but it should work,
Unless it depends on another app to work, then it will need more looking at.

Got the phone about 20 minutes ago. Can confirm I now have the proper Orange Email app back, and excellent it is too. Will try and extract it when I get home and post it to see if someone else can get it working too.

There is an app called com.orange.pushmail.z7. Presume that's the one that is the modified email app.
Don't have the SDK installed. Is that what I need to do full rip of the firmware?? No idea how to do that.

For now, just copy across /system/app/ with Astro to the sd. 7z is an archive type, so not sure what is in that.
Edit: misread, z7 is just part of the name. Are there any other branded apps? what firmware version is it running?
