[Q] No internet (data) after Android install - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hey everyone,
After installing Android (THIS VERSION), I can't use data connection. I can use wifi, and that works perfect, I just can't utilize the data network. I set my APN correctly manually (checked it a thousand times). I can see the "G", "H", "3G" etc signs next to my signal-bar, so it looks like the phone DOES pick up that data connection can be used here. It just keeps giving me the same error saying there's a network failure. I'm quite new to all of this, so I may have forgotten to do something that would be considered standard by everyone here. Do I perhaps need to set my internet settings in the WinMo first?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

its hard to say what the problem is since u double checked the apn settings
sometimes the culprit is the kernel....but if others running the rom have no problems.....
you might have more luck posting this question in thread of the Rom u flashed.

Try going into Recovery, go to Advanced and Fix Permissions and reboot, see if that works

He's on an SD ROM and is therefore unable to do this. At least, the ROM is SD and he mentions the settings in WinMo.

help! auto disconnect data with automatic email syncing...hdtweak option not work

Hi
I've searched all over this forum and I've even asked in various threads with this topic but no answer....
So basically i have email set to automatically sync every hour and I have HDTweak and set the disconnect data option to after 1 minutes....but it wont work. email will sync on time and get me any new emails, but the data connection will stay active forever until I personally turn it off.
I have even tried various combinations with HDTweak turning off data at 5 minutes and 10 minutes but no success. so frustrating to look at my phone and find the data connection has been on for 4 hours.....gaaaah help plezzzzzzzzzzzzz
thanks
Start>Settings>Phone>Data> "Disable data connections when device enters Sleep mode" (check that). Then just set your device to go to sleep after a minute or w/e you want.
Hope this helps
thanks for the reply svegetto
but i cant find that option... i have touch hd with original rom, when i go to into the start>settings>phone i dont have a data tab or option or anything that i can check that is similar to "disable data connections when device enters sleep mode." is there another way to access that option?
on the bottom along with the tabs (Phone, Services, Network, Band...) there should be two arrows < > which should let u scroll right giving you more tabs, one of which is Data. (I thought this was in all ROMs, but I might be wrong)
hmm nope i dont have it on mine...all i have is: Phone, Services, Network, Band, PIN/PIN2, Time Zones, More, and Advanced. and there's no data option in either the More or Advanced tab...i wonder why i dont have it tho? it seems that a lot of other ppl who have this phone have that Data tab and that your method works for them....?????
For me, it's between "Time Zones" and "More" so clearly you do not have this tab. The only thing that I can propose is changing your ROM to one with a Data Tab, though I totaly understand if that's not something you want to partake in (but incase you do, Dutty's ROMs have the Data Tab and I'm sure many if not most other ones do as well).
Actually another thing you could try on your current ROM is Schap's Advanced Configuration Tool which is similar to HDTweak (though I believe initially developed for the diamond, it still works on the HD). Here's a link: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=AdvancedConfig
Hope it helps
haha ive been meaning to look into changing my rom and i guess now i have a good reason to do so since no other methods seem to fix my problem Seems like I'll be having some reading to do lol, o and I'll definitely take a look at Dutty's ROMs
and again thanks for all your help

Question to all knowledagble ROM cookers ou there

Hi,
There's one thing that bothers me in every ROM out there and even on my own. I don't have an unlimited data plan and I hate the fact that I have pull my SIM card every time I want to try a new ROM. The problem is that if I don't, I'll be charged for access cause every ROM has the mobile connection enabled by default.
I can't find any setting anywhere in the ROM files to change this behavior... Maybe I overlooked? Does anyone if it can be done and how?

AFAIK you can just press menu when you're in setup and then choose to edit APN. Go to your APN and just put a random letter somewhere in the address to prevent it from working.
At least it's possible doing that using a vanilla ROM, not sure about sense
IIRC, during setup it asks if you want to connect through mobile network & wifi or wifi only. Just select Wifi only.

Exactly, "during setup" and not at startup. It always connects through before I can select "wifi only".

Indeed. The setting is initially set to Mobile Network & Wi-Fi, until you change it in the setup wizard or settings. It's really annoying for people with no data-plan.
You could remove the APN list from your ROM to prevent it. Also, there are a few XML files with default settings. If you are lucky, it contains the Data Connection settings, and you can change it.

Maybe for you and your country network operators. It's not about the data downloaded or the time it takes for me to disconnect it. As soon as it makes a connection, I'm charged a fee.
just hold the END button and chosse turn mobile network off?
Yeah, this is a problem for me. ROMs never used to do this so it wasn't a problem, but recent ROMs have started connecting as soon as I first turn them on, which costs me 99¢ each time.
(The pricing is: 99¢ per day for 50MB, and anything extra is charged per KB)
I've lost a couple of euro to this. It's not a big deal, but it's a pain alright.

I am on Straight Talk.
I just deleted the other "ATT" apn that was there. Currently only have the ST one selected and present.
I have "H+" in the notification pane and its "blue" meaning what i thought was "active data". But nothing

has the data worked at any point before?
This is the problem that lots of people over in this thread are having ...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2084706&
We are hoping for some sort of fix to this in 4.2.2, but until then we haven't been able to find a solution. If you are 100% certain the APN settings are correct (I can't help with that as from UK so not familiar with that network) then there isn't much you can do. For me, the only thing I ever find that sometimes brings it back is if I turn airplane mode on, leave it for 30 seconds then turn it off again. Likewise, you can click on the APN to reset that each time.
If you are rooted, Faux released a modified kernal which is meant to improve data drops and the wake issue which some nexus's have.

did you cut your own micro sim?
try a spare sim if you have one.
Reset APN to default, delete all and try again.
I don't know what else to suggest other than the above / phoning google / rooting and trying a different kernal and ROM / wait for 4.2.2 update.
(In the meantime please post in the thread linked above, no need for this duplicate thread just for your issue )

Wifi, time and root

Hi there,
I'm using CM 12.1, 20150817 version. It's working well, apart from one really annoying thing:
My wifi will not reconnect to networks. Or at least most of the time.
If I set up a new network, it all goes very well, but as soon as I'm out of reach and come back in reach, something goes wrong. My phone sees the wifi network, but doesn't connect. It's in the list of available networks, but just doesn't connect at all. If I manually tell it to connect, nothing happens. The only way to get wifi data again is to tell my phone to forget the network and hook up to it again.
It's not just my home network. It also happens with the work network.
I told it to not avoid bad connections, so that can't be it, besides, the connection is typically very good. Other devices hook up without problems.
Any clues as to what could be going wrong here and how to fix it? My mobile data is going through the roof because of this.
Another thing, less annoying, but probably quite important to the developers is this odd phenomenon:
I traveled to China recently (from Holland) and after I arrived, I set the timezone manually to Chinese time zone. After doing that, time is in sync with local time.
After I did a reset, the phone's clock had shifted on hour back. The local time was off by one hour, and so was the time my phone showed for my home timezone.
I had to manually set the time to the right time, for things to be normal again.
Same happened on the way back, but the other way around. After a reset, the phone's clock was suddenly an hour ahead.
One other thing; somewhere in the last update I managed to loose root privileges. How do I get it back? I would like to give some apps root access.
Cheers,
Menno

Hey, Im not too sure about the Time changing problem, but I've found on CM12 that Root Access is disabled by default.
You need to open Developer Settings, Root Access; then change the setting accordingly.
Hope that helps

Hi Lenny,
OK, thanks, but how do I find out if I'm running the right modem?
Or where does one find the right modem? I just flashed the files from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...lop/exclusive-antaresone-alucard24-s-t3066696 , using TWRP. I came from the previous version 12.0, but my OTA update had failed, so I did a clean install.
I'm assuming the correct modem would be in the zips?
If not, where can I find it?

Oh, go into About Phone, then find Build Number.
You have to tap at this button 7 times in quick succession and it should enable the Developer Settings back in the settings menu.
Be careful messing around in Developer Settings though, some options in here are harmless, but others can really screw with your Android

Cellular Data on 950xl not working since 10586.107, now on 14267.1002

Hi Folks,
Having this nagging problem on my 950xl, while i was on insider preview of 10586.107, i got a message while paying tubecast that my 3G data is not working, and that it was a known issue. as i was out of town i dint go much then, but once i was back home i tried all the below stuff.
1) Soft Reset
2) Hard reset to Factory
3) Hard reset to factory and upgrade to latest firmware, and build 14267.1002.
None of which have resolved my problem, my phone shows H+, H,E and 2G symbols but when i put a url in edge or try gettings emails etc, it never connects to the internet.
I even managed to go to FieldTest to see if any bands are switched off but even there everything was fine.
I even logged a call with service provider, to see if its a server side problem, but they say its ok on their side.
Any suggestions? do you think my phone is faulty? anyone encountered this before and manage to fix this?
It seems you don't have an APN configured. Please check that you do.

Thanks for the response, i had the APN configured both automatically and Manually. but it dint work before.
Update: Not sure what happened...after 6 days of no data, and lots of calls to vodafone...something happened. and data is working again now. hope it stays that way.
Have you try to reset to official build? And to me it seems like it could be a hardware issue rather than a software/firmware, since didn't see others have similar one.
I have the same problem. Hope you were able to find a solution. My problem also with wifi not able to find any network.
Connectivity
I am also having connectivity issues with my unbranded 950XL dual sim. On data, it appears to be logging on to an inappropriate network. Unlike previous OS's, I can't figure out how to get this one to manually select another network. There are some WiFi networks, usually at hotels, that I just simply cannot log on to. Everyone else can. Any advise will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Dave

Under the SIM settings, there's a "Scan for Network" or similar button, which will present a list of the providers available. This allows you to correct a mis-selected provider, manually.
On the WiFi issue, I responded to your other thread. Let me know if you aren't seeing that, and I'll post here too.
