Sorry if this has been brought up before but the search sucks on mobile xda.
Had an epic previous to this so soft keyboard was not a concern since I had a hard keyboard. What are you typers using and like the best. Right now I'm using swift key x, I like it but would like to try others.

I'm hooked on Swype.
my favourite is the stock GB keyboard, simply the best!
i used to be a swype fan before GingerBread keyboard, but now i find swype very cumbersome
i do not need any real usb or bluetooth keyboard, they are always in the way
Tried em all, but Stock Gingerbread Keyboard always wins.
The only thing I wish was that I could change the smiley key on the bottom right. No one makes smileys like how they have it .

use perfect keyboard. i think u can change it.. not quite sure..
Have you tried SwiftKey x.? That's what I use now. I also like 'A.I. Keyboard' you can increase the size of the keyboard to have spaces in between each key. only problem with that one seems that when you reboot your phone it defaults back to stock android gb keyboard and you have to go back to settings /keyboard and re-select it again.

I do like stock gb keyboard also but I just get much better word prediction out of swift key x.

On Froyo I used Swiftkey (without X ) but now the stock GB keyboard is as well as Swiftkey..
I'm also using SwiftKey X (I' currently on brainmaster's MIUI ROM), and I really like the predictions as they are right almost all the time if you have used SwiftKey X for some time.
One special thing why I prefer SwiftKey X over stock GB keyboard is that you don't have to activly save your "personal" words, i.e. you don't have to press a word a second time to save it to your dictionary.
Yeah another big SwiftKey fan. Works really great. Only thing I'd like to change is the sound of the keyboard. Give me wp7 keyboard sound and I'd be in heaven

Ive tried most keyboards; swype, touchpal, better, stock GB... but I still havent found anything better than SwiftKey X.
It's absolutely brilliant! Definitely give it a try. i find myself not having to type at all and just going with predictions a lot!
SwiftKey X is my favourite, although the stock Gingerbread one is decent too.
I tried Swiftkey and Smart Keyboard (free) and ended up going with Smart Keyboard Pro. Either is better than stock gingerbread, IMO. The extra customisations and better suggestions/auto-correct make a huge difference.
The paid version of stock gingerbread keyboard. You can remove the period and comma keys and make a large space bar across the bottom (I would always unintentionally hit the period key..) and its themeable!! Try it!

My daily is TouchPal Curve.
Excellent, excellent swiping with instant prediction and fantastic taptyping.
I aint hatin on swype or swiftkey or thumb keyboard pro or slideIT or SmartKeyboard Pro or perfect keyboard or better keyboard but I cant use them. I own them all, pro versions when available and I was always going back to the stock gingerbread keyboard. Even tried numerous keyboards from other devices. All of them had things that i just didnt like.
I came from a evo, big keyboard plus HTC. I'm using perfect keyboard customized with HTC theme, and no mic button to make space bar bigger. Love it.

THIS. It's free for a limited time, so grab it now to try it out. It's a combination of Swype's swiping keyboard and SwiftKey's predictive keyboard. I've been using it past two days and really liking it. Much more responsive and faster than Swype, and definitely quicker than pecking with the default GB keyboard.

I really hope this is possbile. The HTC IME keyboard is absolutely indispensible to me. It in my experience has by far the best spell correction out of any keyboard I've tried. No other keyboard can I mess a word up so bad, add in a few extra letters than the word has, and it will still figure out what I'm trying to say.

The only thing I hate about the keyboard is that after putting a period to write down my email, it always puts a space after it. Errr....
If the HTC keyboard can be ported to the Galaxy S and Nexus One phones, then I'm sure it can for the Nexus S.
It'll be ported, no worries. In the mean time try Smart Keyboard Pro with HTC Skin.. very very similar. I actually prefer that to HTC_IME, but both are damn similar.
I had switched a while back to HTC_ime as well. I recently got tired of it's myriad bugs and switched back to stock and am loving it! Can't wait to see how much better the Gingerbread version will be.

i just switched to smart keyboard pro from the HTC IME and i will never go back. it's amazing, and the dev is very nice as well
Smart keyboard is great, and I would use it over stock keyboard for sure...
But I re-iterate, in my personal experience, no keyboard comes close to the spell correction offered by the HTC IME. It is VERY forgiving to typing mistakes. I mean you can completely misspell every letter of a word, add way too many letters, and it will still pick up what you're saying.
Then you gotta learn to make less mistakes!

Check the options you can turn off auto spacing after entering a period.
I personally use Smart Keyboard. I would like to use the new Gingerbread keyboard because of the multi-touch, but don't like that the keyboard TICK sound is not adjustable and it's very loud if I have my ringer/notification volume at full.
Smart Keyboard doesn't offer multi-touch, neither does HTC IME.
I will switch to Ultra Keyboard when I get the Nexus S because it is multi-touch.
Huh? AFAIK both Smart Keyboard and HTC IME have multitouch. Smart Keyboard even has an option for Multitouch AFAIK.
I'd try this kitchen, should work and you can customize it completely, check it out Great way to have nice, working HTC IMEs

smart keyboard has full multitouch, you have to enable it in the settings, though i think it's on by default.
Also depending on your phone it may not work too good, i've noticed on my nexus one the multitouch on smart keyboard has never worked good, but it works alright in apps like maps and the gallery.

Typing in wide screen would be easier using splitted keyboard, which keyboard do you use?
Here is my list:
multiling keyboard (free, layout too wide)
thumb keyboard (best)
ai type (free but need network connection?)
open split keyboard (beta?)
tablet keyboard (useful)
Another keyboard:
perfect keyboard
SwiftKey X
Update:
Thanks for your input guys, now im convinced to use thumb keyboard. It's worth to buy, every button placed just right for my thumb and theme support. Typing so fast using it, simply the best
I tried a few of the ones you mentioned.
In the end, I wound up purchasing Thumb Keyboard 4. Well worth it.
It has quite a few features.
I enlarged the height of my space bar, because I always found myself hitting the notification bar at bottom of the screen.
I also like the Text Shortcuts. I can save words and phrases I use often, and enter them when needed.
I can now type just as fast on my tablet, as I can on my Android phone.
I was going to get an external keyboard for typing out emails. The more I use Thumb Keyboard, I don't think I will need one.

I agree. I use Thumb Keyboard 4 on my GT as well as my Droid X. It is extremely customizable and works well. Word prediction is excellent as far as I'm concerned. Well worth the price!
+1 for thumb keyboard.
I too was wary of paying for it but it really is worth every cent!
Another for thumb keyboard, although I use it in standard configuration. It's the most customisable one I've found.
Has anyone figured out how to backup and save your settings for Thumb Keyboard?

Thumb keyboard is the best. I was really hoping to like swiftkey but I never grew comfortable using it. One of the best features of TK4? The tab key! So useful in filling out forms on the web.
I also like the arrow directional keys on Thumb Keyboard.
It really helps in trying to precisely position the cursor when selecting text.

Also user of Thumb Keyboard. Unmatched really. The predictive text is great but the "present texts" is so cool. It allows you to access a list of preset texts so I put in my name, address, certain email addresses, etc. in there so I don't have to take forever typing out stupid contact forms or login stuff.

I LOVE wireless solar keyboard very much. It is energy saving, environment friendly. Wireless keyboard is also very easy to use.
Hi guys,
So if you've used the Stock Samsung Keyboard, I'm guessing you have worked out it's even worse than the iOS keyboard, actually no it's not that bad, but still. It's missing key features and for some reason on each reboot of the phone it seems to forget words I've told it to remember. Coming from a One X, this keyboard is extremely hard to adopt, as the Sense keyboard is absolutely beautiful.
Does anyone know any good, free, alternative keyboards that I could use, maybe even a Sense keyboard? To date I have used the following keyboards, and hate them!:
AOSP Gingerbread
AOSP Ice Cream Sandwich
GO Keyboard (HATED THIS!!)
I can't think of any alternative, however if you guys take the time to make some suggestions I would really really appreciate it! I don't mind installing applications that aren't in the Play Store, I just reeaaaaaly want something better than this!
Thanks guys, you da bomb
I use Ice Cream Sandwich Keyboard by johntanmi
I used to use Smart Keyboard PRO when I was on my GS2 with Gingerbread.
I actually found the Sense keyboard very hard to use and have always been a fan of the iOS keyboard. I really wish there was a ripoff for it for Android that came close. I can use an iOS keyboard on a 3.5" screen as well as I use the ICS keyboard on my 4.8" GS3 screen.
I highly recommend SwiftKey X. It's excellent.
There is a free version of SwiftKeyX, though I would honestly suggest buying it, and eventually Swiftkey3 when it comes out of beta. I don't have an S3 (yet), so I don't know the compatibility it'll have with the phone, but unless you're looking for something similar to Swype, Swiftkey is the way to go.

Or even better, the SwiftKey 3 beta.
Was using ics keyboard donation version for a while but siwftkey keyboard blows it out of the water.
《tapatalked from galaxy s3》
I'm also a +1 for Swiftkey 3 beta (using it now on my Galaxy Nexus)
here's the link (download at bottom of the page):
http://www.swiftkey.net/swiftkey-3-beta-smart-space-ui-themes
I've used SwiftkeyX before (and personally wasnt a huge fan), but I find the changes in Swiftkey 3 have been amazing so far. Especially the new themes, Swiftkey 3 makes the whole thing look much more professional.
Tinker around with the Swiftkey3 settings (I like setting the spacebar action to complete the current word)
I only have a few issues (which im sure they'll work out in the future) - such as their voice input (its not like ICS keyboard where it will dynamically populate your words as you speak , but instead will LIST out options of what it thinks you said)
anyways - Swiftkey3 ! DO IT
I have tried over 10 different keyboards and I keep coming back to Swiftkey. The auto-correction and prediction algorithm is second-to-none. It also handles up to 3 languages simultaneously, so it makes it simple to type in multiple languages (in my case, English and Portuguese). The beta also looks very promising, so it will keep getting better.
Thanks for the replies guys! I'm going to try SwiftKey X and SwiftKey 3, means a lot to me the replies I have had. Support on this seems to be buzzing a hella lot more than over on the One X forums
+ 1000 with SwiftKey... it's just the best! You won't be disappointed of wasting some bucks on it!

What i really love about Swiftkey X is that this keyboard learns my "typing habits" from my SMS, gmail, facebook or twitter. The text prediction become almost perfect.
On the GS3 (coming from a HTC Desire), i tried the samsung keyboard, and installed Swiftkey again after 5 minutes of hating this stock keyboard.
Yeah, I must recommend SwiftKey also, the beta is amazing, I type almost as fast as I do on my desktop... Sometimes it feels impossible to mistype lol. It reads my mind :s

I've tried just about everything but I keep coming back to FlexT9. I wish I didn't as it's uglier than everything else IMO, but in terms of functionality and usability I can't find anything that beats it.
You might try out Thumb Keyboard. I wrote this especially for devices with large screens. Besides a standard layout it has split layouts for landscape and portrait. Although I'm pretty objective when it comes to keyboards, I still find myself typing the most fast on this one.
+ for the SwiftKey. Really really nice, both in visual terms and functionality.

Slightly off-topic: are they not the same?
Hey everyone, I was wondering for those of you who use a different keyboard other than LG's gay keyboard what is your favorite keyboard? I have been using Go Keyboard it's the only one I like so far.
I used swype on my old phone but using the gay keyboard for now. It isn't as intuitive as swype but handles my needs.
SwiftKey all the way!
Sent from my LG-D801 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Swiftkey, although I've never used the predictive function so it's pretty much the same as swype or vanilla to me.
Yup, I used Swiftkey since it launched in beta and loved it. I never thought I'd ever use anything else, but I have found the stock LG/"gay" keyboard to be quite functional. It has a dedicated number row so I don't have to switch between numbers and alphabet (like I did on Swiftkey). It also comes with some great emojis that works with iOS so I don't have to download anything extra, like I did with Swiftkey. The swype feature has been almost 100% accurate for me, so has the voice dictation. It also tries to predict my next words, though that's not as good as Swiftkey.
The choice is yours to make, but I've been sold.
I love swype! I've used it for years! I'm coming around to SwiftKey with all of the new features they've been adding, but I love the swiping function and swype still has the edge for that particular feature in my opinion.
I can't live without SwiftKey. I've given others a chance in the past but always end up coming back.
Just leave this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2482026 here
I am probably on the short list but I like the stock keyboard. I do not care for swype, and I have tried SwiftKey and I did not care for that. I like the numbers on the top of the main keyboard. Like many people I too have hit the Home key on the bottom, and then have to go back into where I was, but I still keep the stock keyboard.
I actually prefer smart keyboard pro. With the Droid X skin installed. It rocks and has 100's of options!

I would love to use the Google keyboard, but the ONE thing that I need is to be able to adjust the long press time to get the secondary character. Whenever I have a few numbers to type I long press for a short time to get the number, the default long press time is way too long to be convenient IMO.
This one reason is why I continue to use SwiftKey.
