Okay so I'm verizon. And I'm totalllyyyy ready to writhe in painful jealousy about this (blue?? thats awesome...4g? sweeeeet) but those aren't DEALBREAKINGLY saddening...but I saw it has special compatibility for a multimedia dock?:
what are the stealth (hehe) improvements for this PLAY? does it have HDMI?

Its the same Play that any GSM world user would get(or you can buy un carrier locked but it won't do 4G). It includes the multimedia dock that is already available, but it won't have any new features.
That said I am a little jealous because this version will likely have some of the SE features cut from the Verizon one, and will most likely get the Android 4.0 Upgrade before Verizon as well.

2) we're on 2.3.2....our phone is capable of going to android 4.0??
P.S.
UGH I don't understand why Verizon is so laggy with the updates....how hard could it be?
Any idea when we're getting the 2.3.3. update?

All of SE's UI features are removed (although some prefer it that way) there are some new features that the upgraded versions have that we likely won't get.
There has been no word of when we are getting the upgrade to 2.3.3 or 2.3.4 however SE publicly announced all 2011 Xperia Phones will get Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) however considering everyone else is on .3 or.4 and we are still on .2 I'm not holding my breath for 4.0 to come quickly.

So apparently Google is coming out with a N1.5 with 3G Band I (2100Mhz), II (1900Mz) and V (850Mhz), versus the N1 Bands I (2100Mhz), IV (1700Mhz) and VIII (900Mhz).
I do not understand why Google's flagship HTC handset doesn't support every frequency and they (whomever "they" may be) simply enable/disable in software?!
Anyway, I guess this means N1.5 will work on AT&T 3G.
Any insider tracking the Google release date for the AT&T capable Nexus?
Care to share an actual source?
Refering to this i assume.

I was told by my AT&T representative for the SE region of RS that the phone is ready and is being tested to meet AT&T specs for speed on not only 3G but the upgraded HSPA networks. They however did not specify a date other than 2010 for the AT&T version. Soooo.... we shall see, normally they are right with the products coming to the market, like the Moto backflip which I knew personally was going to AT&T over a year ago.

But AT&T being the best service in my area I can't wait for this!

There is no chipset/antenna design that supports all UMTS bands at the same time. The bgr was just wrong, there are two distinct bb9700: one for t-mobile and one for att.

Yeah, that is a sad excuse of an Android phone. ATT is going the way of the big V. No open access to an open source project.
Just stupid if you ask me.

I wonder what they are going to do to the nexus..remove the unlockable bootloader perhaps? I also wonder if Verizon is going to do the same...
Being on ATT with a nexus one, I really do want to be excited by this news as I am tired of being on edge (thankfully I have wifi available most of the time), but I am concerned about the lengths ATT will go to after seeing what they pulled with the backflip.
I will just sit and wait and watch. Worst case scenario, my cell contract will run dry next year and if ATT buggers up the nexus I can always migrate to TMO with a new contract...best case scenario...I can sell my current nexus to offset the cost of a new one that will take advantage of ATT's 3g...hopefully by then all those dreaded iphones will have moved on reducing the dropped call rate and slow 3g found in my area (seattle).
Two changes needed to support different 3G bands:
1. Antenna
2. Baseband firmware

Wind Mobile successfully tests LTE and HD Voice
http://mobilesyrup.com/2011/02/03/wind-mobile-successfully-tests-lte-and-hd-voice/
that means even if we are on the 3G SNS, we can still gain the benefit of a faster network for Video chats
...oh they also rumored Rogers and Telus are planing to do the same
But the sns does not use Lte so would it still gain from the added speed of lte 4g?

why would they not be?
they wouldn't be spending all the force to help the Canadian consumers, out of the sinister Rogers & Bell, if that was the case.
also they wouldn't spend on 4G upgrades, and get 4G ready cell phones
either way, they will continue to be in business in one way or another

I hope so, the new guys are the ones briniging lower prices and unlimited to Canada if we lose one then the ladscape changes drastically. I'm the sure the government will do something, it is their mess to clean up now anyway.
that's exactly why the half government is giving them the green pass, yet the corrupt at CRTC wants to favor Bell + Rogers, basically they want Wind + MobilityCity out of the picture
they have no legal grounds against MobilityCity, because it's Canadian owned
anyways it's on the news, it's already announced that Wind will be on business as usual, as the gov already went ahead with the changes to allow small companies with less than 20% market share to operate in Canada even if it's foreign owned
it's all over Google news

Since at&t is buying out T-Mobile, just Google it I'm not posting links, is this the true end of our phones because at&t said all 3G phones will need to be upgraded to support their towers and speed they will provide. In addition what are everyone's thoughts on the matter?? It seems like we'll all min the USA have to buy new phones BC they probably wont do the upgrade for free xD
Sent from my HTC Magic using XDA App
You don't have to change anything unless ATT drops 2G.
I don't think it will be the end of our phones the 3G upgrades may come over the air or we may have to go old school & actually have to get firmware upgrades in the shop. I don't really think T-Mobile is much slower than At&t, after all, T-Mobile pushed the GSM network in the US, which made everyone else play catch up, since GSM was already in the EU for several years prior. Anyway, as long as we have XDA & the great people giving us Froyo & Gingerbread for our G1/Dreams & MT3G(which we were never meant to have in the 1st place), we will never be too far behind...I hope.
Just my 2 cents...
AT&T motto: If you can't beat `em, buy `em!
Its not necessarily a software issue because At&t said that themselves that all 3G phones will eventually have to be replaced to handle the new network.. AKA moving everyone to 4G and more expensive plans lol..
If they're going to pay for the upgrades themselves im all fine and for it bring on the new phones for development, and they keep our plans i will be extremely happy!
But if we have to get new phones and new contracts a lot of people will probably drop them. I know i cant get the deal i have now ANY where else for as keep.. Unlimited data, texts and 750 shared mins bt two phones for 100 bucks a month. not bad in my opinion.
3g phones are supposed to fail. Get a 4g phone. I heard T-Mobile customers will get iPhones somewhere but wouldn't count on that coming to pass. I'll get the pyramid if it hits T-Mobile in may like reported by T-Mobile news. Just ride the train and see what happens. If u get robbed bail out. My 2¢ anyway

I wet into a AT&T store today and there data line for "unlimited" is $45 a month with out tethering it was around $65-$70 with tethering (guys at the store were as helpfull as a bricked phone and didnt tell me much), (i currently pay $40 with tethering) ontop of your standared plans... to get a plan like yours (also mine) would cost us around $150 or more, im just hopin that we will be able to keep our plans how we have them due to the "grandfathering" law, not sure if it is covered from a buy out though...
Something for us all to look into i guess and see what we come up with
I got a feeling that the govt isn't going to allow it. There seems to be a lot of media attention lately as to how it will hurt consumers. Mergers like this are not necessarily a done deal.

It is when companies own the Supreme Court.
So I am about to get booted off of my parents plan (college kid) come may. Would it be a smart option to buy a tmobile plan right now hoping that their prices wont increase with the potential merger? I have heard their plans are cheaper..
I am using an unlocked g1 on at&t right now- and I havent had much problem with at&t- I think all cell phones companies are low grade scammers... I do not use any data, just wifi, and probably text 500/month, talk 500/month..
thought?
I talked to a few tmobile people and they all say that the plan you currently have will remain the same price IF the merge happens
stick wit tmobile. tmobile will still carry out their prices. the two companies merged. which is great cuz HTC and other phone companies wont have to make exclusive phones for Tmobile etc. it will be available to both companies. so we get benefit of the new phones.
If noticed on alot of 3g and 4g phones are already set up for at&t aswell as t-mobile so im really not seeing a issue with the buy out except maybe a new sim card.

With the merger no one needs to upgrade phones. If ppl read tmo's news, at&t pretty much just wants tmo's 4g capable towers and servers. If the merger Goes threw at&t will pretty much be selling world phones (phones that's will support tmos 17 & 21 hundred 3/4g bands and att bands).. all in all they just want the real 4g capable towers tmo has ..

The only way I'll give my evo up is if they get any kind of towers up in my area beside the junk 3g service i get now. I'm just glad I can get wifi, in just about every inch of my town that is unsecured.
I'm keeping my EVO until i have the money to switch to AT&T for the Galaxy Nexus.
Sorry that you want to go to AT&T. Been there done that. And there is a reason why I am with Sprint now.
For the people waiting for the new phones, you wont get unlimited internet since you will have to change your plan.
And yes the EVO will get ICS. HTC may even release a version for it. They just have not committed to it yet. But don't get your hopes up.

I dunno what you experienced, but everyone around me in Dallas with AT&T is pulling 5mb+ on 3G. My buddy at A&M says he's pulled even faster speeds down there. Unlimited data doesn't mean squat at less than 150kbs.
Nope. Ill probably downgrade to a 3g only phone or even VirginMobile. I use like 600MB per month cuz im always on a wifi.
HTC Evo 4G | Deck AOSP 2.3.7 | Tiamat 4.0.5-sbc
Nope. I'd start working on the ICS build myself.
And even though this isn't the case, and CM9 is all but guaranteed to show up on the Evo (as it's in the top 3 devices they have users for, iirc), I'm still planning on helping out.

This is the only differentiator Sprint has and the only thing keeping me from heading to Verizon who has significantly better coverage in my area (even with my Airvana at home).
I don't see anything that says you lose unlimited internet for upgrading your phone and why would you need to change plans anyway??

Never happen.
CM9 or a good AOSP are our best bet. I've been giving the GS II 4G a long hard look, but a nice AOSP ICS build with 4G working would keep me happy for a while longer.
I'd dump Sense for ICS AOSP easy.
Hey, if ICS never get ported maybe we can hold out for Jelly Bean (j/k)
My EVO does everything I need it to do and I don't see any compelling reason to upgrade until sprint flips on the LTE switch in my area and pushes out a decent ICS/LTE phone. Of course by the time that happens Google will be prepping Marshmallow for release... I'm on wifi 99% of the day, though I can appreciate peeps agrivation with Sprint that do rely on mobile data. I suspect my EVO 4G will die with only about 5 minutes of Wi-Max use to it's credit. That makes me face a little.
Read today that the nexus 1 will not get an official release of ics due to hardware. Adreno 200 issues? I don't know. I'm sure there will be a port though.

if you put a tmobile sim in its only 3g right?
im surprised that so many people would trade 4g for 3g speeds pretty much just to get ICS
although coming from a g1 to the vibrant to the t989 having a 3 color LED would be awesomeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
its been like 2 years since ive seen an LED light on a phone ive owned...man i miss the LED lights

You'd still get "4G" (since T-Mo classifies anything at 14mbps+ 4G) at 21mbps, half of what you can get from the t989 if it really matters that much.
Link doesn't work with me. It just sends me to the normal play store
