hi,
i have just bought out my dead elf from the closet to revive it back to life after reading the jtag method its been more then an year it had been lying in my drawer...first a little history my elf went down when it fell off my hands and the lcd started to malfunction it was like half screen black and half white but i cud still use the set ....then i dont know how it happened, now it wont even turn on if i tilt my device towards light a bit i can see that the lcd turns on for a sec without backlight then off...and nothing else no led no vibration or sound..!!!
so today i tried to jtag it and the worst case happened the copper plating on the pins came out.. ...so is their any other pin out??? i can see the exact same pins at the back on the same location are these the same pins..???

Before anyone jumps on me, I've been going through the Wiki and forums extensively, and found just one similar problem. Which wasn't solved...
My HTC TyTN/Hermes 200 won't boot up anymore. It is totally dead. I even can't get it into bootloader mode. Screen stays blank and the LED is off.
Put the (3 months old) battery in another Hermes to test it, and it's at 100% charge.
My Hermes shows a steady red LED when it's plugged into power without the battery in, and no LED at all when the battery is installed. The red LED turns off when the battery is installed while there's power going into the unit.
I've left the battery out for at least an hour, plugged it back in, same results. Like the other guy I tried the "pull power, pull battery, plug in power, plug in battery, reset" trick http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...6469&p=1077622 - to no avail.
Does anyone have any last resort ideas on how to get it to at least come back up to a boot loader screen ?
check the battery contact points on the phone. the hermes shows a red led when its plugged in but without a battery
... have you ever dismantled your hermes? your screen ribbon cable may have dead tracks or not be connected properly
just a test on the opposite side of the battery connectors with battery removed press firmly without putting pressure on the LCD, this worked for me when i had a white screen on power up.
if this fixes the problem you may need to actually dismantle the back and put some flame retardant electrical tape on the back over the existing tape to add an extra layer of pressure and retension

Yes, I have cleaned the contact too, nothing. And the battery is OK for sure, my colleague's TyTN runs on it without any problem.

In fact I have, I have totally dismantled and reassembled my TyTN yesterday afternoon, nothing.
the only other problem may be that when being dismantled you may have damaged some sensitive components, Electro Static Discharge will fry sensitive CMOS components, they do not like it at all, whenever dismantling you should wear an earth strap, any time i dismantled mine it was on a workbench with a static mat and i was earthed through the mat.
but this is one possibility, the only other idea is to swap main board and displays with another that works, finding someone willing to allow you to do this with a working hemes is the tough part.
thats as much all i can think of for now
R.I.P. my trustful Hermes 200
Thanks all for your assistance. I have come to the conclusion that my sweetheart is no longer among us. May she rest in peace.
I have obtained a (2d hand) replacement yesterday. May this one last longer.
I'll keep the old TyTN for replacement parts.
Oh well...
Hi, I've unfortunately broken my hd's lcd.
I've replaced it at home, but after I turn on the device, it vibrates one time, then I hear the htc opening sound, but there is no image or light.
So I guess the device itself is functional, but there is a problem with the lcd.
Somebody told me, that if I put on it a new stock rom it would fix the problem.
But when I connect the hd with an usb cable to my computer, nothing happens, there is no connection estabilished, the computer doesn't see the hd.
When I plug the device to charge, it charges.
So how can I replace the rom on my hd? :S
I've also tried to update the device from an sd card, I've formatted an 8gb sd card under win7,put on it an official rom, with the device turned off pressed the vol down button+the power button, then release the power button, the the vol down button, then press the power button.
But it's the sam: vibrateing when turning on,then after 30secs the htc sound, but no update..
Have you taken your HD apart again and checked the physical connection of the ribbon connectors for the LCD and Digitizer? They have to be pushed all the way into the socket and the sockets must be locked in a couple of different methods depending on the connection type. If they aren't in properly, you would probably experience the problem you've described.
Before trying to explore software issues, make 100% sure that you don't have a hardware issue.
I had the sync connection issues, then I found this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=524619 I followed the instructions and was able to get connected again. It's worth a try.
if you change the lcd and don't get any image on the device
I would think
the lcd you got is dead
or the image display port of your motherboard is dead

I also have the same no image issue. I have also tried a second LCD with no luck. Once I was able to connect to the phone again, I flashed the stock rom from HTC, still no LCD. Tried leaving the battery out overnight, still nothing. I have been able to get the phone display to work by putting the phone body minus battery by an exterior window for about 1/2 hour, its cold in my neck of the woods. Pop the battery back in and I have a screen again, for about 5 minutes... One time I was able to get the phone to stay on for over an hour by doing the above steps and then right after putting battery back in cool phone, I immediately synced up with my PC and it stayed alive.. I don't know what the deal is.
Update for those who care. I have been playing with the cold phone/battery and have found out the following:
Cold battery/warm phone = no LCD
cold phone/warm battery = no LCD
cold phone/cold battery = working LCD every time.
I have also been able to use the phone, after both batt. and phone are cold, for as long as I want as long as it stays active and does not go to sleep. The phone will not come back on if I let the screen turn off by itself or if I push the power button to turn it off unless I cool it off again. I plan to call HTC in the morning to see about a repair, but have had fun playing with this weird situation.
So,I've opened up my HD and found out, that the data cable that is connected to the volume button has been detached from it.
Is it possible to solder it back without changing the piece?
My hd is still in the srvice shop for a price offer, but after I will get it back, I will try your cold lcd/battery thing.
Will it work with the fridge too? Because it's getting warm up here
So,if I undertand you correctly: after the lcd and the battery is cold, the lcd works, and if you connect it with the pc, it's stays alive until you put the screen to sleep, than it's dead again?

The cold trick has worked every time for me. I only hooked it up and had it on while connected to the pc once, but I think it should work again.
On another note, I heard back from the repair center and they wanted to replace the LCD (for $300) and I then explained to them that the LCD was not the problem and then was informed if it was indeed the mainboard that needed replacement then it would cost even more... I tried to plead with them that it is a common problem with HD's and even though the warranty is void I think they should cover it, didn't work.. It's times like these that I curse my curiosity and ability to repair my own things.

As far as the fridge goes, it should work just don't leave it in too long.. if it gets too cold then you might get condensation when it heats back up.
Forgot to add that I got my HD back from HTC yesterday. Got excited thinking they went ahead and fixed it for me!! But no... It worked just fine for about 5 hours after I unboxed and put my battery back in. Was turning on and off like normal, then after bout 5 hours it was back to the usual working phone with no LCD. I did notice that the screen was pulsing, for lack of a better term, it would dim then come back up to full brightness, then dim and repeat. There has got to be a way to fix this! (other than the mainboard replacement)
Ok i got an extremely bad problem
i brought a hd2 from ebay with a fault, which was the person said he dropped the phone and the screen cracked then he replaced it with new screen and digitizer, but he said after he did that the phone only starts up sometimes, anyway i won the bid and when i recieved it i put the charger in and it turned on by itself and was stuck ar htc screen i took the charger out and the phone went off, so i put the charger back in again and it didnt turn on this time, tookout battery and did reset and hard reset and still nothing? the phone doesnt have hardspl.
so i opened the phone up and look to see if anything was lose which it wasnt and i also manged to damage the volume flex cable and the bottom buttons flex!
so i left my phone overnight and in the morning i put the battery in and put it on charge and A RED LED LIGHT CAME ON!!!! which means it was charging so i thought if i press the reset button it come on, so i pressed the soft reset and nothing came on and the red light dissapeared and it doesnt come back again?
Can anybody help me whats wrong?
Since the previous owner has dropped the phone, anything could have went wrong.
First, check the battery pins on your phone, and make sure they are straight (not bent, not eve a little)
Hi I tryed that but it still don't work, also to follow up I put my htc in fridge for 5 mins and put in usb and orange light comes on so I left it for couple of hours and after it finished charging it virbrates and screen comes on but it just stays black so I took out battery and it didn't startup, so battery is fully charged and I. Put phone back in fridge and put usb back in and orange light came on again, so this time I pull out usb cable and the light is still on??? And I pull out battery and it goes off I don't know what's wrong???? Its driving me nuts!!!
Edit - ignore what I wrote above, okay I left phone in fridge and I put battery in and then I put in usb and orange led light comes on then the phone vibrates and the htc logo screen comes up but it is frozen there and I can't reset because I have no buttons because I broke the flex ribbon. I pull out battery and it turns off and it doesn't come back on so I put usb in and then battery and nothing but I can feel a tiny bit of vibration but not as strong as before. Its soo wierd the phone only powers when I leave it in fridge.
really need a solution fast
Please guys I really need a solution, don't leave me hanging. I was going to buy a new motherboard but I don't know whether its worth it because I font want to waste money.
I can't answer your question. But I know for fact that if the hd2 overheats monsterously the processor melts off it's spot or something and the phone starts to reboot at 25-30 Celsius degrees and that could explain cooling it down lets it boot. My suggestion is to sell the phone on Ebay as SLIGHTLY damaged Hahahah!
infact thats what i done i put it on ebay if anyone wants it let me, mint condition except boot failure I don't think it the processor because I can connect to usb and it comes as qualcomm data
The phone tries to turn on because I see the vibration motor turn once but nothing else happens?
facepalm.
....
Was there any need of facepalm makes you look like a retard. Don't do it please
Hi Guys,
Read a lot of posts about the red light of death but not had any joy as yet.
So screen cracked, I got a replacement and changed it, got the flashing red light and after quite a few hours of changing that would randomly stop the phone started up fine and I got everything working. Phone was still on about 75% change after some usage so that night I left it connected to wall charger and when I woke up in the morning it had the solid red light of death. I have since opened it up and disconnected batt for a few seconds and connected it back up without the screws (some posts suggested it was too tight with the screws?) and still nothing, only other thing I can think is the back cover has a slight gap on the top left hand corner. I know it is supposed to be flush but I didnt think such a small gap would cause red light of death?
I'm not sure if it is bad battery (did take a very long time to charge when I did get it up and running after screen replacement) or if it is back cover. Any suggestions on how to diagnose the problem?
Cheers
Seenan
Hello everyone,
i recently acquired a used P10 plus almost for nothing.
the guy i bought it from said it fell on a carpet and it wont turn on anymore.
the symptoms were:
*black screen
*red led blinking (first 3 fast blinks, later only 1 every couple of seconds)
So i thought to myself, probably battery issues from the fall, maybe it disconnected somehow.
I disassembled the phone, reconnected every cable, but still same symptoms.
i read somewhere that red led usually means battery dead or the small charging motherboard (?) is broken. So i ordered both from Aliexpress and installed them today, but still the same issue.
i connected the phone on the charger without the battery, the screen came on (but it seems its broken also - only vertical lines and a crack, lol).
Any ideas?
should i order a new screen and try to fix it or should i give up? (i read somewhere that people couldn't power up their phone after screen replacement)
thank you guys in advance!
well, i guess ill just give up.
i was hoping for an idea of what to do, but nothing.
a shame really, i was hoping to get it back to work again.
cheers!
