hi folks!
FIRST SOME DETAILS !
DID S-OFF WITH REVOLUTIONARY
HBOOT 01.001 OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT
FROYO 2.2.1 (YES ROOTING IT IS POSSIBLE..)
AS A TEST I WAS ABLE TO PUT LIVEWALLPAPERPICKER.APK IN SYSTEM/APP ON ROOT OF THE PHONE
so i guess its clear im properly rooted also i have the SU app.
since i am desperate and tired of searching the whole google engine for like a thousand of times keep finding the same posts, i decided to make my own one since they (or not match) or dont work for me. so here's my situation.
I recently was so happy i finally succeeded in rooting the phone with s-off (revolutionary) and ofcourse i wanted an custom rom with overclock kernel as fast as possible.
Now im still stuck at this stock rom. i do have been able to activate live wallpapers on go launcher pro still on the same rom so i guess the rooting isnt the problem.
THIS IS MY PROBLEM..
i saw an tutorial where they told me to download an custom rom and rom manager. i did what they said but when i run rom manager and clicked flash clockworkMod recovery (the first one) it just loads (i am able to pick HTC Buzz(Wildfire) as my phone model. but then it says:
==================
Succesfully DOWNLOADED clockworkmod recovery
not flashed! i cannot flash it! also i tried root toolbox and it doesnt even give a message when i erase or flash the recovery. nothing! it says please wait and then nothing.
i realy hope someone could help me!! i cant stand this slow clocked rom!
i realy appreciate help!
i am dutch so excuse me for my rubbish english!
Getting Clockworkmod from ROM Manager is a "temporary" solution in any case. It would be recommended to get a permanent version of Clockworkmod Recovery in case you are looking to flash Custom ROM's and stuff.
There are many basic ways to go about it, you can pick any you wish:
1: Via Fastboot. There is a process here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14693680
2: Via Unrevoked. Download the Clockworkmod Recovery.img file, an older version of Unrevoked, and run it. Make sure to Select File > Custom Recovery before starting the method.
3: Via Renaming Zip to PC49IMG. Guide here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1130044
BTW, Didn't Revolutionary ask you whether you want to load Clockworkmod? It is supposed to, and normally, it is the easiest way, without any hassles.
dude you just safe the day!! at first it looked like the first option wouldnt work but now it did! thank you so much man i cant tell you how happy i am! kudo's for you man!
It's the method I personally use as well, and having Fastboot enabled is a great thing. It can be a lifesaver at times.
i made a succesfull backup and now its loading the system. cyanogen mod 7 and its now just loaded when im texting this! so glad man realy! cant wait to fully try it out!
Make sure to get the latest nightly its stable, has more features and is just much better than 7.03 or rc1.

Allright, Ive been pretty active in the xperia forums here and at htcpedia, but on sunday my xperia got stolen. I was hoping to get the Rhodium but Vodafone Insurance are up tight, in the end I bartered myself to a Vodafone Htc Magic. I like using Andoid and loved playing on the Hero, so I thought it was worth a shot.
I've been trailing through the internet looking for how tos and all sorts, but it seems with Android there are thousands of different ways of doing everything! I went on the Unlockr which gave me a really useful guide to flashing and rooting etc, but it seems that a lot of the stuff is now not in fashion and superceded by other methods.
I'd like to know how to root (heard there was a Cyanogen app on the market), backup (not sure why I should backup but there we go), partition (whether I use Linux swap or W/E, apparently something else is faster, and I don't have Ubuntu) and flash a new rom or update. Finally I'd like to know what sort of rom would be recommended, obviously Ive looked at Cyanogen and would like to flash it, as well as Donut.
Thanks in advance!
update: seen a similar thread but the link provided as a solution looks way too compliacted for me. There are some who ask you to download SDK and stuff, but the Unlockr didnt seem to say that. Also reading Cyanogen's thread, his barebones rom won't include google apps. How can we back these up? Argh I'm so lost.

Hi HazzBazz.
I used this method to root my phone:
http://lifehacker.com/5339901/get-root-access-in-android-with-one-click
Follow this to install the custom cyanogenmod rom:
http://www.cyanogenmod.com/rom/cyanogenmod-4-1-999
If you have volume issues after doing the update then this is how to fix it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=568891
Note: when you flash the recovery image of the stock operating system, it will revert back to the old one after a reboot. You will need to flash the recovery image again to put it back. Once cyanogen's rom is installed, the recovery image will stay the same.
Also: Make sure you perform an nandroid backup and make a copy of the nandroid folder that is on your sd onto your pc. Just in case.
I really reccomend you to download the SDK file, you will need one of it's tools sooner or later. Plus adb is a great way to do almost everything in your phone, i use it for almost all. check this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=532719
I have rooted my phone through the one-click-root method and haven't ahd a problem. I would recommend it as it is the easiest way to do it.
Then you will need to partition your sdcard - i use parted (a tool from the android SDK) as i find it the best method. follow this tutorial to guide you right through it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=534714 (it is made for a dream so it asks you to go to the console and type in the phone - just boot into recovery mode, plug in the sapphire to the computer and access it through adb (with command prompt) and then just follow the instructions.)
if you want to install hero roms (or almost any rom for that matter) you should also update your radio and spl to the latest version. check this thread for hero Q&A http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=534461 and this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=537365;
Above all you just have to do a bit of reading and experimentation with your phone. Read the forums here and on the dream board and it should get you up and running in a couple of days. just involves a bit o patience in the begining but hey, we all went through it. check also this links/tutorials

Good luck and have fun with your new phone - one of the best gadgets I ever bought in my life!
I have a perm rooted desire hd europe model with s-off and fastboot and recovery mode on it.
I for some stupid reason chose in the system menu factory reset without thinking and now after rebooting it wont go past the animated htc logathing with the sound, it just does that over and over until i remover the battery
I can go into fastboot and recovery mode, but nothing more, can someone please help me to get this phone working again ? i would be very greatful to you, i just cant solve this myself i really want to hit myself right now
By the sounds of it you need to either restore a nandroid backup or flash a rom
UNLOCK OUR BOOTLOADERS
Actually on first boot, android phones take a long time to boot, and may appear bootlooped. Try letting it sit for a while.
Did you correct the problem?
I did wait and it just goes to the htc bootup logo and displays it over and over and over again with the sound.
What can i do, and how please help
Ok if you can get in to recovery and the bootloader your problems should be easy to solve. Do you have a back up of your original rom? If you do just restore your backup. If you don't have a backup you can flash a custom rom. Just make sure you wipe data and cache in recovery before flashing the rom
UNLOCK OUR BOOTLOADERS
Ok, i cant find any backup of my original rom. So i can only download a rom that looks as close to the original as possible (i remember that there should be original roms located in here at xda forums, cant find them now )
When i have downloaded that rom thats named something.zip, i only have to rename the zipfile update.zip and place it on the root of my sdcard and then first as you said wipe data and catch before doing the update, and that should work ?
There should be rooted stock roms available in the DHD fiorums, don't know where to find them though. But your rooted so enjoy the benefits look for the most popular rom and give it a go. The DHD has awesome development.
And when you have downloaded the rom place on the root of your sd card, choose install zip from sd card and find the rom you have downloaded no need to rename it to update.zip, select the zip and wait for it to flash. Then reboot and enjoy.
UNLOCK OUR BOOTLOADERS
THANKS YOU SO MUCH !!!!! you have really saved the day,i cant find the right words to explain how happy i am now, thank you !!!!
I tried first a few custom rom's that didnt work, and finally i installed Honeysens HD v1.4 wow it worked and sooooooo good looking, beutiful loadingscreen and rom.

UNLOCK OUR BOOTLOADERS
Hi there,
I had been umming and arring about rooting and installing a new ROM one of my familys HTC Heroes for some time now and finally after reading lots of "How to's" on lots of different forums I decided to take the plunge and give it a go using the guide on here.
Both my wifes phone and my sons phone are sim unlocked Orange HTC Heros running 2.1-Update 1.
Rooting it was easy. One press of a button and I was there. Its pretty much worked OK and I have sucessfully made three backups of the wifes Hero.
My main query and this is the bit I have not really been able to find much info about despite spending a day trawling through the forums looking for similar queries is this:
Having flashed my recovery image file, the first time I reboot I can get into the recovery mode just fine. From here I can make a backup of the current ROM after which the Hero reboots and goes back into the OS as it should.
If I then shut it down and reboot using the HOME key + POWER option It does not go into the recovery mode. I get the screen with an image of the phone next to a red triangle with an exclamation mark in it.
Using the advice from various forums whilst searching for further advice / hints I have left the phone for up to half an hour but it stays on this screen. The only way to get it out of this screen it to pull the battery.
If I then boot up the phone and reflash the recovery image, I can then get into the recovery mode once again but for ONE BOOT ONLY.
I have tried AmonRA Revcovery v1.7.01. and also the Clockwork Recovery 2.5.0.7 images and both produce the same results. I have tried flashing the images via ROM Manager and also via Android Terminal Emulator
My question is this: Do I have to flash the recovery image EVERY time I want to open the recovery mode or is there something I have missed? At present I have held back from installing a new ROM in case I go past a point of no return where I brick the phone. Neither my wife or son would be too pleased despite my son wanting a better ROM on his.
Apologies for writing "War and Peace" but I wanted to make sure I had covered all I could and hope this is a) not a query already posted elswhere which I have missed b)posted in the right place. Apologies to any forum mods if its not.
Regards
Rhinestone.
hmm look on the unlokr.com or something like that. They use some simple passes and it's the way i did it. the on;y difference is that my phone wasn't blocked on a carrier...
1.there is a program that roots the hero's rom
2.after that i recommend installing clockwork recovery mode (it doesn't need signed zips)
3.if you don't feel safe doing this, i recommend to stop... I know that the 2.1 rom is boring but you can end up with a bricked phone after this...
The official 2.1 update has a script that reflashes the stock recovery every time the phone is shut down.
Hunt about for a modified 2.1 rom, all of them have had that script removed. I'm not a huge fan of sense now, but when I did use it, I found villainrom to be a good 2.1 sense rom.

This, just flash a custom ROM and it will stick.
Hello,
Problem might be with rooting, possible it has not been rooted completely or anything messed up. You can try this for rooting.
http://unrevoked.com/
If you are sure its rooted completely, then check out Superuser apps, if its there, and you are rooted, if not then download terminal emulator and type "su" command, if its doesnt display any error then its rooted.
Other then this,
problem might be with the recovery images you are flashing, download droid explorer its a window application, its has an option of flashing recovery with one click, simply choose recovery image & flash it, clockmod recovery or amonr any of this you can get in xda.
i hope im posting this in the right place, ive never really messed with forums before, but anyways
ive done everything there is to do to get a custom rom on my streak (StreakDroid) including the whole flash recovery, when i do that it all seems like its working, but when i go to where you are supposed to install the streakdroid (when you turn your phone on with both volumes ect) soo when i get the screen with the blue letters, its tottally different it says something like "insert a SD card containing an update file(/sdcard/update.pkg and the only choice it gives me is press up on the volume to turn device off. BTW i did already had the streakdroid on my sd card. someone please HELP me
if this helps i have a Dell Streak from AT&T
V 2.2
Baseband Ver. 2.6.32.9-perf
OEM Ver. GAUSB1A135331
Build 15697
Thanks
Sounds like this might help.
You may also want to read this.
i already know all of this, but thanks for trying, i cant root it eather, i forgot to mention, it keeps failing, and ive tryed all versions of oneclick
Do this - you do not need root to use that method and is you read the previous links I posted you will figure out how to use StreakMod Recovery even if you aren't rooted.
I got same problem when I installed custom rom at very first time from stock 2.2.
Do this if still can boot to stock rom..
1) Rooting with Gingerbreak.apk , this will work..
2) After rooting done, use R.E and change one file in the system as this file automatically blocked custom recovery when reboot so your problem happened... your DS5 still booted on stock recovery even already flashed StreakMod recovery...
Read this.
3) After modifying one system file then flash StreakMod recovery then you can continue....
Hope this can help you.
i tried that too, but like ive said when i first made this post, when i go into streakmode (when i turn it on with both volume bottons ect) and go into mode after that all i get is something like for an emergency restore blah blah , idk whats wrong, ive done the streakmod right and still,
i have att 2.2 rom it wont allow me to install other source apks
Regarding the issues faced by the OP on this thread:
1. If you are seeing mention of an update file when trying to access StreakMod Recovery, then you let the Streak boot regularly once you installed StreakMod, rather than immediately booting into StreakMod Recovery. If you let the Streak boot normally, StreakMod Recovery gets overwritten. If you're trying to install StreakDroid, then you need to hold down volume down and up as soon as you finish flashing StreakMod Recovery via Fastboot to use it.
Custom ROMs do not have the problem with recovery images being overwritten.
2. The recommended method of rooting a Streak is to flash StreakMod Recovery and then flashing Superuser.zip through it. One click rooting methods are not 100% reliable. The OP is attempting to flash a custom ROM, which doesn't require flashing Superuser.zip. It DOES require flashing StreakMod Recovery.
3. AT&T was supposed to permit sideloading on newer AT&T ROMs. Go to Settings>Applications and make sure "Unknown Sources" is checked. If the option is not present in the ROM, then either the ROM must be changed or a PC application such as the Sideload Wonder Machine must be used.
OP, you were attempting to change the ROM to StreakDroid. Did you change your mind?
@Strephon Alkhalikoi man, just when i thought all hope was lost, your 1. step did it all thank you sooooooo much for finally having my problem solved
also thanks to marvin02 and androidunia for trying to help me, i appreciate it
Hit the thanks button next to my post, Marvin's post, and androidunia's post if we helped out.

Gee - the same info was available from my first post in this thread. All you had to do was click on a link and actually read. If you had you would have had the answer less then an hour after your OP.

+1......right !
Ok, i realize i have a different phone from this thread but it is close and my problems closely reflect the issues ive seen with the Galaxy S.
A little background. Im no perfect i know what im doing when it comes to rooting. I have an HTC Tbolt and rooted many of those, an older touch pro 2, and this is first time doing a samsung. I am getting the hang of ODIN (i wish everyone would just use this program instead of bouncing back and forth between heimdall and ODIn but whatever) Im liking ODIN cause it works well. I was successful at flashing a new rom into this Samsung phone. 95% of it worked, wifi i think didnt but everything else worked. While trying to fix the phones wifi somehow i have stopped the phone from booting into CMW recovery unless forced or booting into a rom. I can get into CMW but i must hold down the Vol Down button to get there, otherwise a clean basic boot takes me to the stock android system recovery screen and will not boot a rom.
I have something backwards or out of order. I am just trying to get the rom to identify the installed CMW and the installed ROM through CMW but it wont do it.
Any help would be appreciated, i dont want my GF to find out i jacked her phone lol
Which phone do you have? SGS? I can just talk about SGS+ but I guess its similiar.
Try to install CWM with Odin, normally it should replace the stock recovery (haven't heard of both running at once).
Once you have installed CWM you can install your custom ROM with CWM (look at the install instructions).
If you want to install stock ROM with Odin it will replace your CWM with stock Recovery.
Post the link of the thread/recovery you want to flash.

Its a stratosphere. Im using the root and / or stock files in the root method. I use ODIN to flash the StratCWMRecovery.tar.md5 and if i tick "reboot" then it reboots into CWM i install a rom or stock rom and it finishes. I reboot the phone and it instantly goes back to android system recovery. If you like ill make a short video to give you an idea of whats going on.
I will note that im close to making a jig but its not 100% bricked obviously. 3 button method still works (and unecessary at this point since all the phone does is go straight into the stock bootloader) and then after i install CWM i can force it in to CWM but it wont actualy boot into it.
From a programing standpoint i feel the pointers or partitions are incorrect. Its like booting a computer that has a hard drive with windows installed however getting the bios to tell it to boot from the hard drive isnt working. THats the easiest way to explain this.
One thing i want to note is the only errors i am getting are when i try to partition the SD card from CWM. I get an error saying sdparted is not found.
I am not getting a full understanding of how the root system works on this phone.
Again any help is appreciated.
Made a short video. Its uploading now. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tFZ5Adm5AdQ
So whatever i did i was able to fix. I think me being a very visual person and normally having access to all files i need or could use in a situation is always nice. Here, i didnt but i found them. Here's the link. Its obviously for stratosphere but i took about 10 minutes and let ODIN install all these files and it worked.
original posting but the link doesnt work for download
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/11183-eh2-full-factory-odin-restore/
where i downloaded it
http://www.fileswap.com/dl/t4D235pUTO/SCH-I405.EH2_rel.md5.html
Again this is for stratosphere. Since it really helped me return to stock and allow me to re root in about 15 minutes this thread should be moved but there is no stratosphere area
