I disagree. It took an act of Congress to get root and install a new ROM just 8 months ago. ****'s cake now.
Well I went through a little time being nervous too but I read and read and just did it. Never asked 1 question. Still rarely do. I'm just saying if this is how the journey is starting it's gonna be long.

Doesn't matter for achieving root. That doesn't come into play until your flashing recovery/ROM/kernel.

Well it's mainly because most of the root procedures include flashing a new recovery/ROM. The idea of rooting in itself isn't device specific. It's simply adding the su binaries to the ROM.
I don't know what Hboot is and i don't know if i have 32a or 32b. I have like 250 mb of memory I think, I read somewhere that 32b has 192? I dunno.
My baseband is 62.50SJ.20.17u_2.22.28.25

How do I know if i have the correct USB drivers installed?:
You NEED to put your phone on USB Debugging mode
You NEED to install make sure the Android drivers for your phone are installed
Make sure you DO NOT mount your SD card.
If you still can't get something to run, try doing it in recovery mode.
I know I can mount my sd card when I use usb, but does that mean the usb drivers are installed?
Do u have sdk installed on your PC?
Sent from my Dream/Sapphire using XDA Premium App
I have SDK installed on my pc, but I don't know how to use it.
Well I used that oneclick root and it worked. niiice, although when I go to emulator and type SU nothing happens, but when the program did the root test, it said it was rooted. so I don'tk now
I am not sure on even how to get into any mode after phone is shut off. I want to try installing some roms, but obviously I need radio and spl to install. I don't know how to do that with the MT3G
When u open terminal u get
$
When u type su u should get a new line with
#
Does this happen?

The answers to your question are in the "Nexus 4 development section".. Look for the"Nexus 4 utility" thread. Nobody is going to link you when u can just go and look for yourself. It's 1 click fix. Good luck.

I have tried googling my question but nothing comes up, the only links that pop up are how to root the nexus 4.
Yes find the xda link for that and if its how it should be you should also find a flash to stock, if you are a noon you should really start to make a nandroid backup of your stock ROM so you can always flash back
Sent from my SGH-T679 using xda app-developers app
If you don't want to be called a noob for asking questions that have easy answers, then why not ask in the noob-friendly "Help Thread" in the stickies? It's a lot more fun for all of us, in the end. The reason no one is giving you links is because you wouldn't learn anything from it, you must become self sufficient if you wish to use XDA to its fullest
Folks if any of you have the issue i did please dont worry about the trolls, only 1 person seemed to offer advice as is evident in this thread if your using a mac your going to want to install windows 7 on the bootcamp.
Next download a program called LG google nexus 4 toolkit (I will provide a link unlike the trolls above) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1995688
When that is installed your going to want to boot your device in fastboot mode, launch the toolkit and select option 9.
then select option 1 so it downloads the latest stock rom and follow the on screen instructions, my phone is now restored. If any of you run into problems give me a shout and ill try help
For those not too keen on installing bootcamp another user posted this
thephantom said:
let's simplify things for mac.
-create a folder on the desktop and rename it "nexus"
-download this: https://www.box.com/s/7s02gu6o1cn6wcz6fszr and extract the files in the "nexus" folder. don't create a new folder. just dump the files there
-download the images: https://dl.google.com/dl/android/aosp/occam-jop40c-factory-cd3dc140.tgz then extract them all in the "nexus" folder. there is a zip file inside which needs to be extracted as well.
-look in your "nexus" folder and see if it contains the fastboot and adb files and the 6 img files you extracted. if they are still within a folder, remove them and paste just inside the "nexus" folder you created.
-once that is set up, you can now follow the link of efrant's guide for flashing but when you use the fastboot command, you need to use it as ./fastboot-mac so that the commands will work.
-you can actually just go straight to bootloader mode or fastboot mode on your phone by turning it off then turning it on by pressing volume down and power.

Here is the link to Efrats guide as mentioned in the quote: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34552123&postcount=1
People aren't trolls. Right in the general section there is a sticky that has all the info one would need to get back to stock. Then as other posters have said there is toolkit threads in the dev sections as well that include going back to stock.
@Vermillon: If you're calling me a " troll ", you surely don't know the true meaning of that word.

Root lg g2 with Linux?

So been searching and searching and really hope I don't have to put windows on my computer for this to be done. Sprint varient but I'm pretty sure some other Linux users out there are wondering the same.
Not new to xda or android. But I've always had nexus phones and was always able to use the OEM unlock in terminal. seeing how this was a free phone I said **** it. I like the phone itself but the software is ass. All the bloat is ridiculous didn't know you guys had this mucvh crap on your phones. ( nexus no bloat).
Anybody willing to point me In the right direction or we can figure this **** out together no problem hooking someone up with logcats and ****.

kidrobot52,
This is relevant to my interests.
I haven't gotten my phone yet, but root, cwm etc using Linux would be awesome. Otherwise a method that doesn't require a computer at all would be even better.
From what I've read you're going to need the drivers and they are Windows only, but if you had success doing root with your method, please describe it to us. :fingers-crossed:

So I rooted my lg on a friends PC. But is still want to know if this works. Being that ioroot also works rooting the sprint galaxy tab 3 I'm going to try and rooot it on Linux that easy if I **** up I still have my phone. Lol but if it works correctly I will unroot my lg g2 and try rooting it again in Linux. I'll report back tonight my findings.

I downloaded ioroot13.zip from the link below, and it has a linux script. :good:

Searching xda's forums nobody mentions that drivers are necessary for rooting with Linux.
Compass.
Well that sent new into multiple boot loops. Must've been something I did trying again. On my lg when I go into download mode it gets stuck at firmware update do not unplug USB. And stays at 0 so I'm baffled.
A side note if never needed drivers for my phone on Linux. But then again I come from nexus devices.

No need to install any driver.
However, you need to configure your system to recognize LG Phones so ADB will be able to list it
Check how to do it on android development site. Search for 'Using Hardware Devices'

The major issue I had was that the ioroot I was using didn't detect my phone.

Indeed you don't need drivers for Linux.
I configured udev in my box to detect my phone but I'm not certain that is really necessary.
If you type "./adb devices" and get as output "<serial number> device", your phone has been detected.

why do you use breakfast at all?
pac gets build with the build-pac.sh you dont need to run anything at all
sorry if i missed something :>
I dont know, i just started, im a noobie so i dont understand too much about it, I tough I would need to use breakfast a select my device codename to make it work, and about what you just answered, I'm completely lost lol
PAC rom imho is the easierst rom to build from source.
have a look at
https://github.com/PAC-man/pacman#getting-started
basically you have to
init a repo
sync the repo
run build-pac.sh
thats it.
make sure you have all needed programs installed for this but you should be able to find tutorials of which software you need to build android on ubuntu.
But what about the device codename? Don't need it at all?

yes you need the device codename
if your device codename is ks01lte then you have to run:

but please read the tutorial i posted, its <30 lines of text and explains ~99.9% of the build process

I'm almost positive that is not supported by pac yet.
If it is supported by CM it shouldnt be a problem, iirc the script will get the needed files by cm.
If there is only an unofficial build of cm you can add the device like it is explained in the tutorial i posted.
so i think you are just hours / days away of your i9506 port of PAC.
if you've done everything correct you can be the maintainer of this rom, and then it will get official supported in nightlies ....

i just did a test run:
http://jenkins.pac-rom.com/job/volletest/device=ks01lte,label=volletest/71/console
so its not working out of the box and there seems to be no official supprt by cm yet.
you will have to add the device manually, for this the tutorial will help you.
have a look at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2590142, thats an unofficial port of cm that might help you.
i haven't done this yet so i cant help you anymore sorry... but is is possible and you'll learn something by doing it. you can drop a message in the g+ community, maybe some out there can give you a hand...
