I realise you feel frustrated, but starting a new thread really isn't going to help, especially since several people have tried to help you already.

Hey guys
I'm currently using an older version of RA-hero. How do I upgrade to the new version (v1.7.0.1)?
ADB for some reason won't work properly with my laptop, is there an alternative way to upgrade my recovery rom?
Thanks,
Alex
edit: oops my bad, I thought I was posting under Q&A. Sorry!
Try using the update.zip posted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7873924&postcount=1208
Have a look at BTDAGs guide linked in my signature, there should be step by step instructions using Terminal Emulator, failing that you can also try Flashrec but that doesn't work on all roms for some reason.
Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA App
I've already got that ! Do I just flash it like I would do with a ROM? Or is there some other process?
... Oh, too late, the update.zip method posted above will be the easiest route to go.
Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA App
Yep, just like a ROM.

Agreed. Things are far more complex than they were in the early days. It would be a long road. Rooting is the easy part

I disagree. It took an act of Congress to get root and install a new ROM just 8 months ago. ****'s cake now.
Well I went through a little time being nervous too but I read and read and just did it. Never asked 1 question. Still rarely do. I'm just saying if this is how the journey is starting it's gonna be long.
What phone do u have?
Hboot info?

Since the post is in the myTouch/Magic section, I think that would be the key. Just saying
So there aren't 2 different boards for these phones? 32a-32b?

Doesn't matter for achieving root. That doesn't come into play until your flashing recovery/ROM/kernel.

Well it's mainly because most of the root procedures include flashing a new recovery/ROM. The idea of rooting in itself isn't device specific. It's simply adding the su binaries to the ROM.
I don't know what Hboot is and i don't know if i have 32a or 32b. I have like 250 mb of memory I think, I read somewhere that 32b has 192? I dunno.
My baseband is 62.50SJ.20.17u_2.22.28.25
Kernel 2.6.32.9-g93b855e
build number 3.56.531.1.cl300801 release keys
How do I know if i have the correct USB drivers installed?:
You NEED to put your phone on USB Debugging mode
You NEED to install make sure the Android drivers for your phone are installed
Make sure you DO NOT mount your SD card.
If you still can't get something to run, try doing it in recovery mode.
I know I can mount my sd card when I use usb, but does that mean the usb drivers are installed?
Do u have sdk installed on your PC?
Sent from my Dream/Sapphire using XDA Premium App
I have SDK installed on my pc, but I don't know how to use it.
Well I used that oneclick root and it worked. niiice, although when I go to emulator and type SU nothing happens, but when the program did the root test, it said it was rooted. so I don'tk now
I am not sure on even how to get into any mode after phone is shut off. I want to try installing some roms, but obviously I need radio and spl to install. I don't know how to do that with the MT3G
When u open terminal u get
$
When u type su u should get a new line with
#
Does this happen?
Read the stickies at the top of this general section. U will find all the info u can handle on fastboot, adb, sdk and so on
Sent from my Dream/Sapphire using XDA Premium App
Yes i got SU I had to restart the phone to get it to engage.
I performed the webtop mod but did not root device, as the webtop mod was pretty simple and I have no use for root.
With the new announcment that an update is coming the 29th I would like to revert back to stock so I can obtain this update.
Problem is there are really no clear instructions on doing this.
I am somewhat technically advanced (I rooted and put a custom rom on a g1, but used step by step guides to do so).
I have found many different instructions on rooting and the instructions for returning webtop to stock are layed out for the more advanced users.
Can anyone dumb it down a little and help the novice users like me revert to stock so we can get the update.
Im sure there are a lot of people out there who are in the same boat as myself.
Thanks!

Sent from my MB860 using XDA Premium App
Don't even know what that is.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA Premium App
Go to link I posted download sbf 1.2.6 then download rsd 5.0 if you've connected your phone to your computer and your computer has recgonized the phone then you don't need to worry about the drivers. Once you've installed rsd and downloaded 1.2.6 follow instructions they're super clear and step by step

First you need to get temporary root access, follow this link
http://theunlockr.com/2010/10/20/how-to-root-the-t-mobile-g2-htc-vision-visionary-method/
Then follow this link and the instructions on how to get permanent root access.
http://theunlockr.com/2010/11/30/how-to-gain-permanent-root-and-s-off-on-the-t-mobile-g2-htc-vision/
This is how I rooted my G2 when I had it. After, you can follow the tutorials on how to load custom ROMs.
Always remember to do a nandroid backup before flashing anything on your phone.
Thanks to theunlockr.com.
Good luck!

if he has the latest ota, he needs to follow the whole downgrade, root, s-off process in the g2 dev section.
use the built in search on xda to find it.
True, my G2 had Android 2.2 when I rooted; since then it got the gingerbread update.

On an unrelated note, though, I totally used theunlockr to root my phone ;D although gfree was highly recomended shortly afterwards, I never ran into any problems, which I thought was cool xD VIRTUAL HIGH FIVE BRO!
I rooted my G2 by following the cyanogenMod wiki. It's really easy to follow and it worked like a charm. Even my myTouch 4g used the exact same procedure. If you are on gingerbread firmware you will need to downgrade. Guide for that is here and then root the phone with this guide here. From then on you can flash any rom you'd prefer.
I have op 2.3 this hard I don't under stan how to down grade I have down load adb in windows 7 when I put the files on sd and I pull cmd out and put the codes in I get nothing so how do I run adb is the any other way to down grade and get root easy
