i finished rooting my friends Droid X. after i flashed CM7 for GB. i used bootstrap for droid x to get into recovery but now im stuck at the M logo. i did a battery pull and now im still stuck at the M logo. any suggestions?
If you used bootstrap on CM7 you need to SBF back to 602 and reinstall CM7. You're not supposed to use bootstrap in CM7, you use ROM manager that installs with CM7. Make sure to use the DroidX 2nd Init version.

Hey thanks a lot for your response! but how do i SBF back to 602? im new to droid X since i have a tbolt, and even on my tbolt, all i knew how to do was root and flash my 1 rom i put on it so im still kind of a noob. sorry =/
Nevermind, i researched on sbfing the phone back to 602 and it worked wonders.
Ok so now i have a new issue. before flashing CM7, i backed up my stock+root. after flashing CM7, i needed to access old text from the phone being stock so i tried to do a nandroid recover. however when its restoring "data" somewhere in the middle it always freezes on the same file. is there a way to get passed this? thanks for any reply.
Which recovery are you using when in cm7? I don't believe that a backup made in 2.5.0.7 is compatible with recovery 4.0.0.5. Try restoring the older recovery version in Rom Manager then boot into the older recovery through Rom Manager and see if you can restore the nandroid.
I'm wondering if its having problems because the old text messages are through moto's text app and the blur framework is not in CM7. Like when i tried restoring my backup assistant to retrieve my contacts. Luckily i could log onto VZW backup assistant and export my last backup of contacts.

I don't have the answer but I think the question is "how can I browse the contents of my nandroid backup on my workstation?"

Well in theory that may cause an issue, but the op said he's trying to restore a nandroid to go back to stock and get a text, not access a text made in blur from CM7.
Even if that were the case I would have a hard time thinking the blur messenger app would cause an issue, since one can use a 3rd party sms app on any rom.
Btw, I would say the backup assistant issue you had isn't really related since vzw backup assistant is a blur bloatware app, and isn't available on the market... I personally use google to back my contacts up because it works on ANY android phone.

I have a problem, I am running FR007 and I can't get Clockwork to make a working backup. If I try to restore from the backup it gives MD5 error. I also tried using Rom Manager and it gives me the android with the triangle error. What do I need to do to get a working backup.
Try titanium backup or Astro File Manager.

Out of curiosity, when you turn off your phone or, restart it, whatever it is that you do to get into clockwork...do you have your phone plugged in with the usb cable?
Yeah I get into clockwork and do a android backup but if I try to restore I get an,error. MD5 something. Titanium and astrology don't do android do they.

lol @ astrology. damn auto correct lol. anyway, you didn't pay attention to my question. do you have your phone hooked up to usb when you are rebooting to go into clockwork?
Yeah auto correct gets me alot. And no I don't have anything hooked to the phone when I try to backup.

are you renaming the backup folder?
No. It won't sync with HTC sync either if that helps.

same thing happened to me for almost all of my backups, i think it was because i put in a custom kernel. I switched back and it started to work again.
hello all
sorry if this is in the wrong section.
today i decided i didnt like my old rom and tried to install fission using the fission rom manager. in the install screen, i forgot to check the wipe box by mistake.
now my phone WILL NOT go any farther than the white moto logo at the very beginning of the boot animation. Is there anyway I can fix this? i am not that experienced at this stuff, so a good explanation is needed. please help!
i just figured out how to get to (stock) recovery from boot, but even after wiping and retryin a few times, it still wont work....
i have also not upgraded or updated really anything since i got my phone months ago, except root, and deodex, and flyx rom
-matt
You won't lose root, and when you sign back into google all your apps will come back. Did you make a recent backup? If so you can use it from recovery
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
You can even wipe and reinstall if you still wanna try fission since you're in recovery.
Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
google has all of my tons of apps? sik. but from recovery there is no option to restore/backup nandroid, like bootstrap
the options are reboot, apply sdcard update.zip, wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition
Oh you're in stock recovery... Just wipe and reboot.

well thanks for helping, but even after i wiped 3 or 4 times trying, it still desnt work. any ideas?
idk if fission requires 2.3.32 or somethin, but i dont think i hav updated anything since i got my phone a long time ago, just thought id add that
Try pulling the battery, should reboot to clockwork recovery when you put battery back in, then you can restore a backup or flash a rom from sd card.

Most roms require .320/.340. You definitely wanna upgrade if you plan on flashing in the future.
Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
well neither of those solve my problem, i am debating on whether on not to take it to verizon, but idk if they will even help me.
if you can get to clockwork recovery you can download a rom by computer and transfer to your sd card, or put your card in another phone to download it. Then flash that rom. Be sure to mount the system before flashing
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Hi matt.. soon after getting my X, I got stuck in your situation while flashing a rom. I took it to verizon and after trying to troubleshoot it for a few minutes, they decided to just overnight me another one. I told them that I woke up and the phone was stuck at the M. I didn't mention anything about being rooted or trying to flash a rom.
The phone was also within the one year warranty though. You might want to try this route if all else fails.
Good luck!!

If everything else fails you can sbf. I'll pm you a link for the 2.2315 full sbf, just download rsd lite 4.8 and google how to do a sbf if your not familiar. Then you can do the official ota and be up to date
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
thnx everyone. ive never sbf'ed before, but ill give it a shot. i wish i could get to clockwork, it would make everything so much easier.
i triedflashing a new sbf, but rsdlite gives me the error- could not find initial values in the ini file or somthin... any ideas? its my fisrt time putting on a new sbf.

What version of rsd are you using? you can just sbf .320 full then .340 system only and it will be updated no need to sbf an old file.
i am using the newest rsd i could find. 4.9 right? and it seems as if i need pst_flash.ini according to the sbf installation instructions i found here
edit: hey thnx everyone for the help. i took it to verizon and the techs said it was a "complete software crash". yay i bricked my phone:/... the good news is that verizon is overnighting me a new one.
when i get it i am going to root it. i also want it to be the latest sbf or whatever its called so i can get either fission or gummyjar on there. now i need 2 more questions answered.
1. which option in about is the one that tells me what sbf im on?
2. i kinda need a really good tut on how to flash a new sbf and get it to .340 because i clearly failed miserably at it last time, so anyone have a link or willing to write it up?
It should have.340 on it or be ready to update. You can check by going to settings, about phone, build number. It should say 2.2.340
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
oh build number. thnx bro, so many confusing numbers, why cant there just be simple names? lol
Full SBF isn't out yet for 2.3.340 you will need the SBF for 2.3.320 and then the patches to get to 2.3.340. Keep it handy just in case!
yah i have the .15 sbf right now for safe keeping but i cant find the .32 or the .34 patch, but it isnt urgent since i heard that the new phone that is coming will be preloaded with the newest everything.
can i just use z4root to root my new phone? or do i have to do the doroot thing in adb like i originally did on my first dx?
I also wanted to know if i could use one of the kernels i saw in the fission rom manager with a rom other than fission, such as gummyjar.
I have a droid x that I went into settings on and did the factory reset. When it rebooted, a screen came up that asked for the phone number so it could be activated. Since there is no phone number, because its not active yet and I didn't know how else to get it past this screen, this is how I left it. Until today, when I took it somewhere to have it flashed to cricket. The guy did whatever it was to get outta that screen. Then he showed me that it would go to the lockscreen. When unlocked, the status bar is at the top, but the rest of the screen is black. None of the buttons do anything either. He said that it looked like it had no OS on it. I need a link to dl a stock rom from onto the memory card, using my m860. Then I need to know the button combination that will get me into the bootloader menu on the DX, THEN, seeing as I'm pretty new to the world of Android, I may need the steps that will successfully fix my DX. Thanks for reading. I greatly appreciate any help that you could offer.

I'm having the exact same problem with the DX. Im in for some answers on how to fix this problem.
Google search how to sbf for your system version
I actually figured out a way to fix this on my own. If I held down the home button, I got the option to use voice services, which I used to access "my files" where I installed titanium backup from the sd card. Then used TB to restore all apps and settings. Then viola! Now my problem is I downloaded the gummyjar 2.5 custom rom to my sd card using CW rom manager, but whenever I try to install, instead of rebooting into recovery mode, it just reboots and does nothing special. How can I get this phone to boot into recovery?

You gotta use koush's droid x bootstrapper app to get into cwm recovery. First hit bootstrap recovery. Then after it says "success" hit reboot recovery.

NOW, my dx is really acting crazy! I did a factory reset so I could set up my gmail account. Everything was working fine for a while, then the phone just randomly reboots. When it started back up, it had all the settings that were on there before I did the reset on it. Very frustrating. Thinking about just selling it and buying something better, I just don't know which phone I should think about buying!

"Selling it and buying something better" will not help you understand smartphone modification. If you would just be patient and do lots of reading, everything would go smoothly!
I use an iphone 4. I was just trying to fix this droid x. Thanks for the help, I need a linux computer though. Er.
So i ended getting stuck in a reboot loop while trying to use droid x recovery bootstrap. Ultimately, i used rsd lite and sbf 2.3.320. So the question is what next? i tried to get the ota gingerbread update from verizon by updating through my phone, but it says that it is up to date. Do i need to re root my phone and flash a current version of gingerbread.
I did make a full titanium backup before is crashed my phone. I am still a little root shy after my first experience.
Try rebooting a few times and checking again. You could always just do a Gingerbread SBF if need be, though.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using XDA App
Thanks. i will try that. If i end up using a gingerbread sbf, do i need to be rooted? Otherwise, just follow the same sbf directions i used before?
SBFing does not require root, if that is what you're asking.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using XDA App
I ended up sbf back to 602 and got an OTA update to 605. Then rooted with 1 click root. Reloaded app from titanium back up.
Feeling a little more comfortable with the whole rooting thing. I think i ended up in a boot loop because i used droid x bootstrap which is not compatible with gingerbread.
So now i want to make sure i understand what i am doing. droid 2 bootstrap will prevent my stock rom from loading and instead will allow me to replace the rom manually. Once i reboot, it will boot into the new rom. i downloaded rom manager which will essentially automate to process of using a new rom.
One question though. Can i use rom manager to back up the stock 605 rom and go back to that if i want?
Hope this noob is starting to learn
You definitely should be able to.

From personal experience I have had problems with ROM manager on gingerbread...i would download Droid 2 bootstrap from the market and press (bootstrap recovery) then (OK) followed by (reboot recovery)
That should get you right into Clockwork mod Recovery without problems....then use the volume down button and go to (backup and restore) then just press your camera button to select backup...
Once finished just hit the back button and reboot and you should have a perfectly good Nandroid backup of your current system

2nd init can work on either Froyo kernel based (older) or Gingerbread kernel (newer) roms.
Check the rom's thread to find out what kernel it uses and for installation instructions.

Flashing sbf is a different thing. Sbf's are flashed through RSDLite by connecting your phone to a pc..
Custom ROM's(flashable zip) are flashed through the phone recovery itself
.. Flashing a zip is a better way of doing it..
Also, while flashing, before doing a wipe, don't forget to make a backup from recovery..

Yes.! You will lose your apps, if your contacts are synchronized with you google account, you can get those back after..but for apps , make backup with Titanium backup or Mybackup root etc. so that you can restore those back..
